South Beach Cafe in East Devon

Came here on a Sunday evening, table pre booked. Was greeted and seated and was quite a spacious restaurant which was great. Table service team were timely with taking orders. Food arrived in a timely way which was great but we felt it was nothing special. The half roast chicken was pre booked I felt and was dry- I had to request bbq sauce. Nice garnish and chips though. Other guests reported meals were ok, again nothing special. One guest ordered a vegetarian dish which turned up cold. Waitress informed and another fresh order brought out when ready- guest re tried and reported it was warm but not hot- not great. Prices reasonable. Not sure if the waitress took the vegetarian dish off the bill-I believe it was by unsure- which is great. Restaurant location is excellent, and is an excellent opportunity to have an overview of the cliffs. Outdoor area lovely. Would return but wouldn’t expect amazing food.

Went with the family on Easter Sunday, food was lovely but I was very surprised by the service! The waitress took away half the plated whilst half the diners were still eating! (Bad service in my opinion) when I mentioned it to waitress her response was........"we always take the plates away" and walked off. I was always taught not to clear plates until everyone had finished!

Food is phenomenal!, service could have been quicker but the food is worth the wait

Absolute 5* experience, cannot fault this place at all. The food was stunning, everyone around our table said the same thing and the service from Jess was second to none. Thank you again Jess and to the kitchen staff for a fantastic evening with great food and great service!

The staff could not be more welcoming. Absolutely charming and a lovely cup of tea and a tuna panini. Well worth dropping in if you’re on a cliff walk.

Second time coming to South Beach and yet again it was lovely. Food was fast and delicious- you can see the chefs preparing the meals in the kitchen while you wait. Had a lovely young lady live singing today whilst we ate- lovely atmosphere, lovely waiting staff and manager who seated us with no problem even though we hadn’t booked. Seem a lovely team. Lovely and clean and tidy as well. Will be back next season as a regular I feel with friends and family. Well done South Beach, have a lovely break.

Gave this place a try and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. You will pay more than at the Mash an Barrel but the quality of the food was far superior and worth the extra.

Another great meal in South Beach Cafe, went with Friends who were visiting the area on Saturday night, glad we booked as was very full. Great food accompanied by a live singer which is always a nice touch! Looking forward to visiting again

We met with friends for Sunday lunch on a beautiful sunny day. Warmly greeted by very friendly staff, and plenty to choose from on the menu. Food was served very quickly, and was excellent. Whilst eating we had the added bonus of listening to Phil from Devon Cliffs Entertainment team and thoroughly enjoyed all his songs. A very relaxing lunch time.

Didn't have any thing from here on this holiday, it said about downloading an app. It did look really clean and inviting. There is a car park near it. And a toilet block which is near the south beach cafe, also clean and well maintained.

Lots of outdoor seating, some covered plus an outdoor shower and dog water bowl. Ok food with good portion sizes, bit slow service, but friendly staff. Great views.

Awesome place, gorgeous food! Service is really good but not 5 star. Wanted a dessert menu but two young lads serving were too busy seeing who was the tallest 🤣 other than that it's one of the best places I have eaten.

Whilst here we visited the South Beach cafe every day where we had lunch or dinner sometimes both. The food was amazing every time and the staff are really friendly. We highly recommend this place for food, drinks and hospitality.

Delicious food and lovely staff with a great view of the Sea. We will definitely go there again when we are walking along the coast from Exmouth to Sandy Bay when walking our dogs.

Had a really tasty meal here while staying on site and we felt the food was good value considering the location etc The reason for 4 stars is that we both opened our menus and were greeted by blobs of food from previous guests. This is one of the worst types of first impressions you can have when dining at a restaurant - please train staff to ensure they clean the menus!!!

Visited this evening to grab some food which was great! We had the burger with chips and the chicken & leak pie. Service was very good, we were served by a young lady with dark hair who was great would highly recommend her, great service. My only criticism was that it is clearly a slightly busy evening so i don't get why a group of workers are stood at the front generally messing around, chip in and help out the others...

Bones in the fish but both meals eaten here were good. A bit pricy but service was excellent

More of a Restaurant than a cafe

Visited twice while staying at Devon Cliffs. The food is good for the price, much better quality than other places on the park. However it got so busy that staff couldn't keep up and seemed to be prioritising getting people seated than looking after people already in the restaurant, asked for the bill to be told you need to ask a waiter, no idea what that guys job was as he just seemed to walking round aimlessly. Took 10 minutes to get the attention of someone to get the bill, no one came back to take payment so had to leave cash on the table - I appreciate it was busy and you could see the staff struggling but it really did let the experience down. Stop letting people in if you can't look after the people already there

After reading the bad reviews I was thinking I shouldn't of booked a table. But decided to give it a try anyway. The service was good and friendly not to slow. The place was clean and comfortable and the food was very nice it was all cooked well and hot when arrived at the table

Large cafe with loads of seating outside. Serves a pretty good menu. Good seafood selection. Nice starter menu. Calamari is chunky, mussels are fresh, fish tacos are nice, flat garlic bread is tasty. Good value

When we eventually received our food it was incredible. Took around 30 minutes to have our order taken and a further 30 minutes to receive the food, not the end of the world but would have been nice to know there would be a delay. The member of staff that served us was brilliant, he even went out of his way to get a meal sorted for my mother in law as the particular meal she wanted had ran out. However, we felt very let down by another particular member of staff (not the one who served us) who had a poor attitude towards his service. He was very short with us, and also downright rude, he had a northern (Geordie maybe) accent.

Came here last night which was the last night of our holiday. The guy (with a northern accent) who was greeting people lacked the basic customer service skills! There was 5 of us but was only given 4 menus which to some isn’t a big deal but it’s annoying when 2 of you have to look over each others shoulders. After sitting there for around 15 minutes, no one come to take our drinks order so one of the party members went to the bar themselves to order our drinks. You shouldn’t expect to do this whilst eating out. Then after another 20mins one of our party members asked the waiter (again with the northern accent) how do we order and he rudely replied ‘someone will be with you!’ Another 10mins and a lovely waiter come to us to take our order. As one of our party wanted a half chicken he explained that they had ran out (even though it was only 6pm) but did offer an alternative which he tailored to the guest which the party member was happy with. In between waiting for our meals the queue at the door was very long and we could see some people had been waiting for around 20mins before being acknowledged. Maybe this was due to their only being 3 staff members?!? When our food arrived we were all happy with the quality but felt that the Chowder could have done with some more potatoes as 4 little cubes weren’t enough or even some bread to accompany it. When we finished we asked for a dessert menu and once again the northern waiter threw 3 menus on the table and walked off! We didn’t bother ordering any desserts as it took a long time to have our mains order taken so goodnesses how long we would have waited for dessert. Another criticism is that the table next too us wasn’t cleared away for a good half hour or more! Definitely think that some of the staff need retraining in customer service and that when it’s going to be a busy evening (considering most people go out to eat on their last night of holiday) more staff are needed on shift to be able to cope with the customers and make their dining experience more enjoyable. It’s a beautiful venue with an amazing sea view but felt the music could have been turned down a little as it felt like we were shouting to each other rather than talking.

Nice place, great views out to sea, food looked great on everybody else's plate but service is extremely poor and slow, we got sat down at a table for 2 people and were given menus then waited 20 - 25 minutes without anybody coming back to the table to ask if we wanted a drink or order, so we just got up and left the table. Really poor, it was busy but that is no excuse and not really how paying customers should be treated.

Lovely and clean. Amazing food. A bit expensive compared to the other restaurant on site but was alot better quality. Also had alot more staff here than in the main restaurant. Food was delicious and the steak was cooked how we asked. All the staff were very friendly and smiley. Will be back again next time we go.

This place would have been better as a takeaway because the service is very unprofessional. On the first occasion, we were seated outside, but it was very drafty, so we asked to be moved. After ordering, someone else came and asked what we were doing at a different table. The male waitress couldn't be bothered to place the cutlery for each of the 4 of us. Instead, just put the whole bunch on the table, and we had to do it ourselves. His attitude was of a teenager; moving carelessly, without class, like serving his mates. On the second occasion, we sat outside too, forgotten for 20 minutes. Afterwards, a girl came rushing to take our order. For a start, we ordered 2 Fantas like last time, but we were never asked for a choice and were given large glasses. We asked for straws but again forgotten. We asked the man who brings food, who was far more professional by the way, and he brought us the straws and also told her to give us the seasoning and sauces. Instead of bringing it, she came to the table and asked whether we wanted it. Seriously? The girl was not coping, apologising, and explaining to other customers how busy they were. Customers don't care, do they? We had planned to have a dessert but changed our minds. The staff needs proper training. They don't represent the place very well. And some customers expect higher standards.
