Food decent quality but portion size is very small. Ordered the Seafood Chowder from the main menu but really should be on the small plate menu, so still hungry but on the other hand the fish and chips my partner had was a decent portion and she said was very nice.

Workers here are fantastic and friendly. More than happy to have a little chat before you go off to the table. The place is fantastic, and it's got a great view of the sea. But you can tell the scrambled eggs are cooked in water, bacon's hard as a rock, and the food came out to the table lukewarm. Even though it came out just minutes after I ordered it. Wouldn't recommend it for a breakfast, but brilliant for a morning pint.

We chose to dine here tonight as we are staying at Devon Cliffs and are sick of eating fast food. We made a bad decision. Took forever to order both food and drinks and when our food finally arrived one order had been forgotten. We raised this with our server who quickly spoke to the kitchen team however when the food arrived (after everyone else in the party had actually finished) it was wrong, we then sent it back and when the correct dinner did arrive all i can say is that the kitchen staff should be ashamed. A chargrilled chicken burger that had clearly been missed off the original order (i understand that can happen) but it had then been rushed out. Did they forget that I still needed to pay for it? Do they not any pride in the food they serve? No sauce or anything like the menu described. Just a dry pre formed sorry excuse for a chargrilled chicken breast and a soggy piece of lettuce…in a bun. Thats it. And they wanted to charge over £15. Disgusting really. I wont be returning

Booked for Mother’s Day meal, advised to order before the other members of our family had arrived due to limited items left on menu. Meals came out and most were ok however the chicken skewers were still frozen. They were returned and we were advised they’d be cooked again, on the second occasion it was still frozen (half of skewer was frozen and other half was warm). The waitress agreed and apologised and asked if we would like something else, however half of the menu wasn’t available (our table was at 6pm). We had breakfast before in here and it was lovely so it is a shame that the experience wasn’t the same.

Visited cafe during the evening while we were staying at Devon Cliffs. We had booked through the app which was very easy to do. There was a warm welcome when we arrived and the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. We were impressed by the assessment of food on the menu and prices. Had starters ( calamari and mackerel pate) and mains ( Sirloin steak and half chicken). Generous portions and delicious. Staff were helpful and friendly. With drinks the bill was £60 which was great value for money. Visted near the end of our stay, wished we had known how nice it was as would have revisited. Would recommend.

We booked a table for my mum’s birthday meal! Was taken to our table, thought it was table service but was left for 20 mins until i asked a waiter “do we go to the bar to order our drinks”?’ There were plenty of staff just stood around chatting too!!! 3 lots of our cutlery were dirty. Around our table on the floor was filthy with bits of food. I understand it gets busy but doesn’t take 2 mins to sweep the floor!!! I work in a busy restaurant so know the score. They could do with toilet checks as they were disgusting. Food was lovely! Couldn’t fault that.

Nice location and nice atmosphere. Staff ate terrible. I had the audacity to attend the bar and order four drinks last night and the female employee moaned to her colleagues AS I STOOD THERE about the fact she had to serve me!!! It was just under £20 for three regular diet cokes and a strawberry woo woo!!! Guys...try employing people who actually want the job, it's not professional nor pleasant as a customer. Not good.

After seeing some of these reviews I was rather apprehensive about going again. We have been before and the food has always been good. We didn't need to worry. We had a table booked and was seated straightaway. The restaurant was busy but not manic. After we had looked at the menus the staff member came over and took our food and drink orders. Our food was on our table within 15 minutes which was incredible. All the food was cooked properly and delicious. Two of us had the rib eye steak and it went down a treat. The other two had chicken and bacon burgers and they tasted great to. The portions were quite reasonable. After some pudding which was delicious too. We were in there about an hour. Overall very pleased with everything.

Went twice in the week we were on the park, both times resturant half empty.table service very slow to take orders and waited a good 20 minutes to be able to order desserts after being given the dessert menu despite not being overly busy. Bar staff also slow and got the order wrong ordered a pint of cider and half a pint of Guinness got it the other way round. Felt the staff need a strong leader as seems overly relaxed. Food was OK but didn't feel value for money although the steak was cooked perfectly.

Sad to say has gone downhill. Have been coming here for 12 years and used to be my favourite place. Food is good however portions are very very small. This is the second visit this week and overheard someone else saying the same. Tonight ordered the seafood chowder which we all commented looked more like a starter. Tasted good but way too expensive at £16.99 for a starter size portion of food. Waitress could have cared less even though we commented on the size of portion.

Lunchtime Sunday 22nd September 2024 I would like to personally thank both Tim and George who I met on entering the Sandy Bay Cafe having just completed an impromptu walk from Exmouth Marina along the beach, to Sandy Bay. They happened to be working behind the Bar. Feeling foolish I soon realised I had no purse or bottled water on me. It was unexpectedly a warmer day than anticipated , having completed the walk and knowing I needed to return to Exmouth on the same said beach I asked feeling very thirsty , if I could possibly have a glass of water ! Explaining my situation ,Tim understanding and without hesitation, gave me the welcoming drink . I was so appreciative and thankful . Both men courteous understanding and kind. This is my very first visit here and without doubt I shall return.with friends Thanking you Again. Kind regards. Mia.

Where do I start? When I made the reservation, I noted that it was my 5-year-old son's birthday, but nothing was mentioned about this when we arrived. It took 10 minutes before anyone approached our table to take our drinks order, and when the lady finally came over, she didn’t introduce herself, although she was friendly. The glasses on our table were absolutely filthy. There were no activities sheets to do for the kids good job we brang uno to keep us entertained. Our drinks arrived, followed shortly by our mains. I ordered the chowder, which was lukewarm and contained only two king prawns. My son’s mini fish and chips were truly “mini”—the fish portion was minimal, and his beans, served in a tiny sauce bowl, amounted to about ten beans. My daughter ordered the macaroni cheese, which was bland and lukewarm with hardly any cheesy taste. She also received the same meagre serving of beans. My eldest daughter and husband had nice meals and my husband like his brownie dessert. Throughout our meal, not once did anyone ask how our food was, nor were we asked if we wanted more drinks. After we finished our mains, our plates sat on the table for 30 minutes. With three children, this was not ideal. We eventually had to ask for the dessert menu, and I wonder how much longer we would have waited if we hadn’t. For dessert, I ordered the chocolate fondant, which was also lukewarm. My daughters ordered ice cream sandwiches, but the biscuits were so hard they couldn’t bite into them and had to use their spoons to break them apart. My son’s strawberry and marshmallow skewers arrived without any skewers. Once we finished, I had to remind the supervisor about the birthday cake we’d brought and ask if they could bring it out. While three staff members did come over to sing happy birthday, which was a nice touch, this happened 10 minutes after my initial request. I’ve been to this restaurant for the past four years, but this year was the worst experience I’ve had. The menu hasn't changed much over the past three years, and what was supposed to be a special event for my son’s birthday turned out to be a complete disappointment. I’ve never left a bad review before, but since the feedback card at the end didn’t provide any guidance on where to leave it, I felt the need to share my experience here. Wintle family

The Cafe has very nice natural settings. It overlooks Sandy Bay, which is quite pretty in any time of the year. You, of course, cannot look back - the holiday park surrounding the cafe is desperately ugly. I have been coming to Sandy Bay for 30 years. The park is becoming more and more crowded. You can drive here by car from Exmouth or walk on the Coastal Path. It takes about one hour to walk here from the Exmouth centre. The Cafe makes quite poor coffee. Large cappuccino I had was thin and one of the worst ever.

Service was horrendous… we waited nearly 50 mins between starters and mains and had to keep asking to order drinks, desserts etc… this seemed to be a running theme with other diners complaining. I ended up having to clear our table myself as sat with dirty plates and glasses for over an hour. Food was nice but expensive (I didn’t expect it to be a cheap meal) No steak knives supplied, no cutlery brought out with mains or dessert (requested) We had a 3 course meal and were present for nearly 3 hours… in the restaurant.

Sat down at the table with a family of ten waited 10 mins before we had to go to the bar to order drinks, at the bar we were ignored for a few mins before we managed to catch a member of staffs eye and finally ordered some drinks and asked if we could order food. Food came out relatively quickly apart from the steak which was 10 mins behind everyone else’s , once it did come out it was overcooked asked for medium it’s was very well done which is disappointing, had to refuse the meal as we were with young kids and everyone else had finished. The rest of the food was average at best. Very disappointed as earlier in the week we had a fantastic experience here and food was brilliant. Would not come back, staff look like they are over worked and not enough people to cope with the demand. Not the staffs fault and we’re accommodating when I made a complaint.

I have been coming to Devon cliffs fairly regularly for 47 years, so have seen it grow and seen the development of South beach café. The location of this venue is stunning. The overall dining experience has declined from previous visits unfortunately. The food is pretty good, compared to very good. The prices have increased markedly more recently, but are still comparable with other venues. Our recent experience of the service was quite strange really. The staff were friendly, our food came out quickly but unfortunately, before our first drink arrived and we also had to request water for the table a couple of times before it was delivered. Drinks took an ages and frustratingly, I could see our prepared drinks tray on the bar, which was looked at and ignored by the waiting staff for quite a time before we fetched it ourselves. I am happy to go to the bar if it is the procedure, but orders are taken and delivered to the table, so we would expect better in this regard. It is harsh in some ways to criticise staff due to our infrequent visits, and this may not be the norm. However, this place feels as if it has gone from being a well above average experience to an average/slightly disappointing evening. We will still go for drinks and possibly snacks but not for an evening meal where you would be spending a lot of money

Food arrived in a timely way which was great but we felt it was nothing special. The half roast chicken was pre booked I felt and was dry- I had to request bbq sauce. Nice garnish and chips though. Other guests reported meals were ok, again nothing special. One guest ordered a vegetarian dish which turned up cold. Waitress informed and another fresh order brought out when ready- guest re tried and reported it was warm but not hot- not great. Prices reasonable. Not sure if the waitress took the vegetarian dish off the bill-I believe it was by unsure- which is great. Restaurant location is excellent, and is an excellent opportunity to have an overview of the cliffs. Outdoor area lovely. Would return but wouldn’t expect amazing food.

Lovely and clean and tidy as well. Will be back next season as a regular I feel with friends and family. Well done South Beach, have a lovely break.

Four of us made the mistake of booking Sunday lunch at The Redwing Inn. We understood that the Inn is under new ownership and still “transitioning” – in preparation for “relaunching” later in the year. So we were prepared for some disruption – but not for chaos. It started with the wine. No, we couldn’t see their wine list – they didn’t have one. But the waitress said she could tell us what they had. Only, she couldn’t. She went off to check and returned with a scrap of paper with a few wines listed she could read out to us. We picked one, but she had to go off again to check the price. Problems continued with the menu. The main course offerings were beef, turkey or pork – all with Sunday roast trimmings. But nothing else. No fish alternative and no vegetarian option. The waitress – one of the young, personable but clueless staff (not their fault they needed training) – explained that they would have had a vegetarian offering, but their supplier of it had let them down. But, they could substitute extra vegetables for the meat. Two of our party chose the beef. Two of us were slightly luckier in choosing turkey. Four plates arrived quite promptly – with everything piled onto them. No serving dishes to enable us to select what trimmings we wanted – just a plateful each of mushy cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, watery green beans, baked potatoes, a whole carrot, a parsnip, a Yorkshire pudding and a rock-solid ball of stuffing. Two plate-loads topped off with thick wedges of beef and two with equally thick slices of turkey. All swimming in the same flavoured gravy. The turkey was just about edible for a bird of its age – the beef was as tough as the sole of a hiking boot. The request for horseradish sauce resulted in a fruitless search through all their fridges and cupboards. They did, though, eventually manage to find the jar of cranberry sauce. Clearing the plates, the waitress was careful not to ask if everything had been okay – studiously ignoring the pile of hacked at beef left on two of them. With hindsight, our mistake was in not walking out when we saw the menu or, failing that, when the food arrived. Fortunately, we will never have to return to The Redwing. The reality is that the new owners had no business opening the restaurant before it was ready to offer a proper service. With that attitude of mind, they deserve to have no business.

Came here for a sunday roast as a party of 4, not booked in advance and they accomodated us without batting an eyelid. Great service and absolutely incredible roast. One of the best pub roasts i've had the opportunity of eating. Pork, lamb, beef, gammon served moist with a lovely selection of veg, cauliflower cheese, a giant yorkshire pudding and lashings of gravy. Real "home cooked" vibe, this wasn't your typical deli sliced cold meats served with veg and gravy, you can tell this was cooked with care and everything was served piping hot. Top stuff, will definitely be coming here again.

It's now almost been a year since my wife bought a ticket for the Balfour Arms Princess Ball for my daughter. The event was cancelled in November and then she was offered an exchange to another event, which was also cancelled. The owners have repeatedly posted on Facebook to say they would refund the tickets money to all of those eligible, and my wife has had to send frequent messages, and each time is told that it will happen by 'x' date, yet the refund never appears - the last one two weeks ago stated that all remaining refunds would definitely be completed within 4 days... The owners have now stopped replying. I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt and appreciate that the owners have suffered multiple setbacks which they state are out of their control. Unfortunately there comes a time when no amount of words or excuses can cover up the fact that this now feels like it has all been a big scam. I would recommend avoiding this business at all costs.

Came in on a busy bank holiday weekend. Could see that it was rammed to the rafters. Was greated by a lovely young girl and explained that didn't have a booked but was managed to be squeezed in. Had a little wait for food as it was so busy and there was only two people working the whole place but by God when the food did come out it was amazing. Just the right amount of food and it just went down so nicely. Paid for our meals and even say outside with a drink as the weather was so lovely and they have a nice little sun trap patio area. Can't wait to come back again
