Good food and service. But too noise.

Our family went to Taj Bar and Grill last night, the experience was fantastic and the food was absolutely brilliant, from the starters through to the mains and we had both non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes, all of them were fantastic and good portion sizes. The service was great and also the atmosphere. This place is a hidden little gem, definitely has become one of our go to places for a fantastic meal and evening out. Great family curry meal night out. Well done Taj Bar and Grill👌👌

Food was very nice but the delivery time was bad and it was very expensive , which I don’t mind if you get complimentary papadums etc. but you are charged a lot for them and the takeaway menu is expensive and also it took one and a half hours to deliver, also last time I ordered I asked for chicken tikka Dhansak but it wasn’t tikka, it was normal chicken but couldn’t be bothered to ring back as I was so hungry, I think this place could be great if they had more staff delivering and they need to give free papadums etc to there customers who spend well at least like all other Indian takeaways I’ve used always do, I’ve worked in this industry and if you’re not careful you can become greedy etc and start losing valuable customers especially as there is a lot of competition out there.

My weekly ritual of ordering £100 worth of food from Taj Tandoori on Hinckley Road in Leicester has been met with mixed feelings. On numerous occasions, I've found myself waiting over two hours for my food to arrive, despite being assured of a much shorter wait time when placing the order. The frustration is compounded by the need to repeatedly call the restaurant to inquire about the status of my order. When they do answer the phone, explaining the situation from scratch each time becomes tiresome and aggravating. Adding to the disappointment is the apparent lack of responsiveness to customer feedback. Despite negative reviews highlighting similar issues with delivery and customer service, there seems to be little effort from Taj Tandoori to address or rectify these concerns. It's disheartening to see a business overlook the importance of engaging with their customers and resolving issues promptly. In conclusion, while Taj Tandoori offers delicious food that's worth savoring, the overall experience falls short due to unreliable delivery service and unfulfilled promises. For those considering ordering from this establishment, be prepared for potential delays and frustrations. Hopefully, Taj Tandoori will take heed of customer feedback and make improvements to ensure a more satisfying dining experience in the future. I’ve been ordering from Taj Bar and Grill regularly for over a year, often spending over £80 per order. In all that time, they’ve never once bothered to include a complimentary poppadom, which I find disappointing given my loyalty. My most recent order was the last straw. The poppadoms were stale, so I called the restaurant to let them know and ask for a replacement. Instead of any apology or attempt to fix the issue, I got a dismissive "yeah" from the staff member. No care at all—it felt like a joke. The quality of the food is also dropping. The sizzler I ordered this time tasted like it was made from pre-cooked items that had been sitting around for 2-3 days. This place is clearly cutting corners, and it shows in the taste and freshness of the food. On top of that, my order on 28-09-2024 was over two hours late. I was told multiple times that the driver was just "2-3 minutes away"—that turned into 15 minutes with no sign of the food. I used to own a restaurant, and I always made sure my regular customers received small gestures of goodwill to keep them coming back. It’s a basic rule of customer service, and Taj Bar and Grill completely ignores it. We’ve started ordering from another place that provides complimentary poppadoms without even having to ask, and they treat their customers right. Expect a weak response from the owner to this review, but the reality is, they’ve lost a loyal customer due to their poor service and shortcuts with food quality.

Amazing food and atmosphere, highly recommended to everyone from meat eaters to vegetarian and vegan.

I took the daughter and grand kids we have been a few times and always had fantastic food this time for a change we had the large sizzler with boiled rice and I had mushrooms rice with a portion of madras sauce the kids youngest had chicken nuggets and chips and the elder had chicken tikka masala with rice or and popadoms to start with everything cooked to perfection even the chicken nuggets looked really tasty I’m from the north of England but the next time I’m at the daughters we will be back

Ordered from here twice now. Both times we've been blown away with how good it is. Having lived in leicester for about 20 years, Ive not tasted anything better than this! Everything is so flavourful, fresh and cooked to a very high standard. The lamb pathia and garlic chilli chicken are next level! Wont be going anywhere else for Indian any time soon!

The Best tandoori mixed Grills and curry's I’ve ever had! Definitely recommend and will be going on a regular basis! Service is good and staff are friendly. Lovely family atmosphere. ❤️❤️

I was visiting from Canada and was recommended the Taj restaurant by a friend. It was very impressive…Top quality food and service! The Lipta Kebabs were out of this world…you must try these for yourself! Great prices too! Next time I visit the UK I will be bringing all my friends here to try this unique experience! Ordered online, the food was awful. I shared a buttered chicken with my daughter as she’s not keen on spice and the curry was really spicy, cold and chicken was like cutting a steak. No pickle tray and sides were cold, the chips tasted like they had been reheated 4 times. Won’t order again 😩 waste of money

Best meal out I've had all year! We ordered the large mix grill and fish pakora 10/10. Mains was also good. Reasonably priced. Friendly staff and nice chilled vibe. Would recommend and will be returning :) Only down side- toilet could be cleaner lol

went on a Tuesday evening about 7.30pm, restaurant busy but not full and we hadn't booked. I had a hot lamb saag which was delicious with plenty of beautifully cooked lamb in big chunks. the chilli heat was perfect, not too hot so I was glad I ordered hot and not medium. friend had chicken Tikka masala which was perfect for him too. lovely thin garlic naan. shared a dessert which was very nice and not expensive like in a lot of restaurants.

Simply put, The Taj is our 'go to' for curry. The mild Korma is measured perfectly for our kids and the hot lamb/chicken Karahi & Tawa is perfect for mine and my wife's tastes. Been going in with family and mates since it opened and The Taj has never fallen short. The only problem is, if we ever go anywhere else (not in Leicester), it's a tough gig to match :-)

Firstly I didn't want to write a review... for selfish reasons... but my heart won......WOW.... the owners have added to their menu which gives you even better choices. The quality of food is very good which includes the service and prices to match.. if ur passing pop in and try it as you will never be disappointed

The staff are not very accommodating, rude and arrogant. There were 6 of us and all our food came out extremely salty. Absolutely freezing inside. Disappointing, poor service. Won’t be coming here again.

This place is so deservedly popular that you need to book (nb they take a £5/head deposit at the time of booking, refunded on the bill). The best biryani I've ever had (rice glistening with colourful, flavoursome bits and spices). Fish pakora was a new one on me and absolutely delicious. Really good value. We'll be back when next in Leicester!

We ordered a takeaway & the quality of service & food was excellent! We had salt & pepper fish, jeera wings & chilli paneer starters & all were generous portion sizes & delicious! Special mention to the salt & pepper fish, that so so tasty! Our main dishes were just as good, having ordered channa masala, paneer balti & lamb keema tawa. All dishes & breads & rice that accompanied were delicious & the portion sizes were also very generous! We will definitely be returning for our next takeaway soon!

They go above and beyond to ensure that you have a memorable experience. From the moment you walk in, they greet you with warm smiles and make you feel like a VIP. They're attentive, friendly, and always ready to help. It's truly impressive how they make every customer feel valued and appreciated. So go ahead and plan that visitttt!!!!! I have booked a table with them for this weekend for 6 people . Will be seeing them sooon.

Food is tasty, however the service is extremely poor. Considering there was only 3 of us in the entire restaurant, and they still somehow managed to get the entire order incorrect. This isn’t the first time either, it happens every time. Won’t be coming back here anytime soon

The most underrated and go to Indian restaurant with best curries, naans and sizzlers. The food, service and atmosphere is top-notch and advisible to book table before going.

The best Indian bar and grill! So underrated, my favourite items are the lamb chops and salt and pepper fish, can’t get better chops in Leicester. The atmosphere and service is brilliant, definitely would recommend Taj bar and grill!

Delicious Appetizers, The Butter chicken and Naan ( Best I had till date) and a wide variety of Drinks on the Menu is what a customer looks for. I really loved the ambience and hospitality of the owner and the chef must get a round of applause for bringing this delicacy and taste in Leicester. A happy Customer 👏👏

Went yesterday for a family birthday with a party of 10. We were 30 mins late for our 1730 booking due to how bad the traffic was. We have been several times before to The Taj. This experience was quite poor. When I initially booked, I could barely hear the lady due to the noise and had to keep repeating myself to her. I wasn’t told we had to vacate the table by 2000 until we got there in spite of calling ahead to tell them we were running late. The food was good, But the whole experience was rushed and in all honesty we felt like numbers and not customers. The wine selection is very poor indeed. They only had Bearfoot Wine and none of us wanted it. The staff are lovely and the food is good. But this experience was marred by the rush, rush attitude. We happily spent £250 but not sure if we will return.

Waited 3 hours for my food and when it finally arrived it was cold and was not edible. When I rang to ask they were no help and just blamed it on traffic but the driver said there was no traffic. So then tried to blame it on the cold weather to then turn around and say it was nothing to do with them and they could not help resolve the issue. First and last time ordering here and I am not impressed at all.

Great food but the service is poor we asked if we could order our meal at least four times and it was an hour before they finally took our order.

Fantastic food and friendly service. Mixed boneless sizzler and chops were delicious. Garlic chilli chicken and the taj tawa lamb were super tasty and the meat was really tender.

We planned a family dinner at the taj I have had takeaways from this restaurant a number of times but this time we decided to seat inside, staff are friendly and food was amazing I am a vegetarian I have to say best Tarka dhal and rice also the veg sizzler is really good . Large selection of drinks and you can’t go wrong with it . Will definitely be returning in the near future keep up the tasty food and friendly service !

Really good! we ordered the dhansak and tika masala , the lamb is so soft and flavours are amazing, not greasy. Even the rice had a great flavour. Beautiful curries, so glad we found this restaurant, we had stopped ordering take out as I always like the idea if it but often had been left dissapointed with other restaurants. Will def be reccomending here to family and friends and look forward to ordering again.

Went here last week. We had the mixed grill sizzler which was nice but not quite as good as some that I have had at places down Melton Rd. We shared 3 curries between 4 of us (korma, balti and bhuna) all were really nice as was the naan bread, rice and chips. Good value too.

Some of the best food I’ve had in ages. Samosas were absolutely delicious and the mixed grill was superb - huge portion too!

Hidden Gem of Indian restaurants in Leicester, the staff are friendly the place is clean. The food was very tasty I must say and good portion size. Would highly recommend, booking advisable as it does get busy. If you not been you must try.

I have had a take away from here before and it was good so decided to come here on a Friday night, rang up and booked table with no wait so good and lady on phone was nice. The place itself inside is clean nice with fire plave on the TVs, the only thing I would change is that it was a tad too bright inside for a late night meal. Food itself was absolutely amazing and came out reasonable quick and the service was good. This place is now my favourite place for Indian food and we were able to doggy bag left overs which I had the following day A++ on the food.

Always book! This place is thriving and has the most amazing atmosphere. Staff are well presented and polite although there is the occasional language/translation barrier with one or two younger members. Drinks are well priced and the food is delicious! Three months down the line and I've felt the need to reduce to four stars. Must be a change of chef, as curries have become very salty, almost to the point of inedible. This is sad, as the starters are amazing, place is still as good as ever, as are the owners and staff. This needs to be addressed quickly. May 2023 - wow, just wow! Food on Sunday evening was out of this world! Back to 5 stars - best meal ever! Thank you guys.

Arrived early for my booking however owner was happy to facilitate, great food, great service, will be eating here again.

Food quite nice, but service was not great evening of our visit and expensive mixup with bill. In fairness it got quickly rectified and perhaps mistakes do happen, but frustrated a couple of fellow diners and took shine off evening a bit.

A real shame I feel the need to write this review. A while since I previously visited. Last time the food was great. Visit last night ended us leaving. We waited 45 mins, then a table who came in 10 mins after us had a load of starters delivered. The biggest issue was how the owner / manager responded. No acknowledgement that they should’ve delivered our food. We ended up leaving after nearly an hour there and no food. I hope the management take this feedback with the good intentions it was made. When customers express unhappiness at waiting and point out a fact. We had arrived and ordered before the table that was served before us. You acknowledge the mistake and simply apologise, don’t make the situation worse.

Superb experience at The Taj Bar and Grill. Excellent and attentive service, reasonably priced and most importantly tasty food (highly recommend the Soya Lollipop if you’re veggie!)

A real shame - the food quality was good - but the order (worth over £90) was wrong - the meal was a family treat - but one of the dishes was not included in the order. The dish that was omitted was for a member of the family with specific dietary preferences and therefore had nothing to eat other than rice. The restaurant offered a refund - but that didn’t help with the experience. Won’t be ordering from The Taj again.

Tried them for the first time and so pleased. Very authentic food like I have when back home in India. I had ordered the keema balti with peas and some starters. Will be my go to place from now on. Better than places I have tried on melton road.

Had my 50th here and was brilliant atmosphere great food and staff were brilliant and excellent place to go for any occasion.

Love this place the mixed grill is always spot on! Sharma was great with accommodating our group that went from 6 to 8 on a Saturday evening 😀 the atmosphere was so relaxed the service was great everyone was really friendly and polite and we all enjoyed the food so much. I also need to just mention this...sometimes Indian restaurants lose their authenticity to accommodate for what they think is their audience...I have also found in some Indian restaurants when Indian people go to eat there the level of service is really sub standard when you compare it to the service you see them giving to non indian people (cough cough chef and spice) ....but here at The Taj everything is genuine from the flavours of the food to the customer service... and that's what makes me give it 5 stars!

One of the best curry houses in Leicester, only negative is that when you order the food through the app they don't look at the pick up time and the food will be cold if you are picking it up after an hour, recommend ordering the food when you are 20mins away..

Very nice food, really fresh, only down side no parking anywhere near restaurant. All roads permit only. My advice is don't drive there.

This bar/grill on Hinckley Rd is a nice addition to the many local eateries. The place has a relaxed, casual setting and prices for both food and drink are reasonable. They have a good selection of dishes on the menu ranging from standard Indian curries to mixed grill sizzlers. The service is friendly and the food tasted great. I'm sure I'll be returning soon.

Damn fine quality food! Had the lamb rogan josh... thought it had an entire lamb in it cos it was so meaty! Luckily my son lives next door so there will be many more visits in the future.

Had a meal here last night for my sister’s 40th and the food was amazing the lamb curry was especially tasty. The naans were fresh and soft, the chicken tikka masala was absolutely lovely but I must say the Lamb Chops from the mixed grill were just the best so soft succulent and full of flavour not chewy in the slightest. The service from from of house and behind the bar was also very good we were never short of a drink. I must say their prices are very reasonabe too.

My go to for Indian food; definitely one of the best in Leicester. Service is rather slow, but the food makes up for it! Cold cobra on tap, thirst quenching!
