Great pub friendly service only had a couple of drinks but will be back when next in Gloucester City

Never had food here .. it's cheap that's why we will pop in for a drink every now and again.

One star on food because I didn't have any. Service was what I would expect one bar staff gave exceptional service. Atmosphere was lively but I definitely got the impression it had some idiots in the place that night. Definitely will be going back again

What a great little find. In all the years I’ve lived in the county never even knew of this place. We stopped for a pint whilst waiting for a carol concert at the nearby stunning Gloucester Cathedral. We were served quickly and the beer was very tasty. This pub is a great reason for why people should start using pubs again like we used to. Buying alcohol from the supermarket isn’t really the same is it? Maybe pub chains need a bit of marketing to get out out again. Well done the Sword Inn, we shall definitely be back.

Friendly people and cheap drinks

Fantastic place foe a cheap beer, atmosphere dropped a bit when the DJ started randomly playing drum and bass but recovered quickly.a good pint at a reasonable price. So come have fun

Staff are brilliant polite and quickly. Drink prices are superb. Atmosphere is brilliant plenty of TV’s and sports showing a perfect traditional pub. Outside seating aswell

Love this pub , I live in Cheltenham and come over to the sword , it’s a lovely atmosphere and friendly , i and my partner are Gay and it’s lovely to be able to come to a pub that feels to be LGBT friendly, certainly non judgemental to whoever you are. I’m spreading the word around to other gay friends to try visiting the Sword , I think they will be pleasantly surprised. Well done to all staff , your an inspiration to the LGBT community . Adrian

Brilliant pub, good friendly atmosphere - I'd recommend it to anyone !!

Nice pub apart from having to listen to bar staff having argument with someone on phone swearing aggressive conversation on phone while serving behind bar. Totally unacceptable behaviour of a member of staff to behave in that way. Not something I want yo listen to when out or being served.

Four of us went for a meal with our dog on a Tuesday evening, website states pet friendly by they most certainly are not, on arriving we we were told that they aren't pet friendly and we couldn't have a meal. Don't say your pet friendly when you're clearly not.

On a Friday night the music is great, 7.00 - 8 30 60s to 90s disco...great, drinks are great prices

What a joke of a pub... booked 3 local live music groups as a Halloween spectacular. Stopped the whole programme during the first set because their regular clientele didn't find it entertaining. These are local musicians with a huge following, many of whom had turned up in costume for Halloween. To stop a musician mid set to turn on your horrible cd music is an insult. What a lot of custom and money you lost on what was promising to be a great night. Rest assured none of those people will return to your establishment and I personally will ensure through social media that everyone knows you're unreliable, untrustworthy, rude and cruel.

To be honest as it is the oldest public house in Gloucester,it is quit specious and so friendly. The bar staff and the land lord cant do enough to help anyone. Great relaxing music and a lovely pint too. Ty to all at the sword,was made very welcome. Hope to see you all soon again.

We went for a day out in Gloucester &popped into this bar. We were met with a friendly atmosphere &the greeter couldn't have been nicer. It's ideal to go to with friends or on your own for a drink.

Disappointment this visit the place has gone down hill. The landlord has zero manners. Turned us away saying no room. But it's ok for a group of 5 to walk in straight behind us and not turned away. If your face fits then it's ok I assume.. he wont last long..

Take this place for what it is. The cheapest beer in the city, always busy with a happy atmosphere and big screens to watch the sports on TV.

Massively surprised at this pub. Didn't have high hopes before I was invited here but I was pleasantly surprised. Worthingtons £1.80 a pint! Don't mind if we do, again and again. All the beers were competitively priced! Had big TVs with Sports on as a bonus for those who want it. Plus a pool table. Wasn't expecting to want to go back but I will be!

Had a great time at The Sword Inn. A quick visit from London - on a lazy Sunday afternoon- friendly staff and extremely inexpensive drinks (did a double take on how cheap)! We were happy to stay for a while. Plenty of TVs to watch all sports on ... great music. The locals were super friendly and kind- exchanged great stories - would definitely recommend!

Pleasant for an early evening chat but a dirth of real ale. Multiple screens with sport playing. Not really my thing but if you like lager and sports definitely could be worth a visit.

Staying in Gloucester and needed somewhere to watch the game. Plenty of screens and both games (Arsenal and Chelsea Europa League) were being shown in different areas. No food available. But decent beer. Don't expect too much; this was very much a basic pub experience but we were made welcome enough.

Usual people not in..maybe a night off?? Atmosphere was totally different staff were slow .

Great traditional pub with plenty for the sports fan. Very, very student friendly. Beer at 'spoons prices and although they don't serve food, happy for you to eat in if you buy a drink. Great hosts

A good sports bar but average beer

Friendly barmaid, who is coping very well with an unexpectedly large crowd of Munster Supporters. Great place to watch rugby. Lovely water :-) Toilets could be better but grand apart from that.

This was our first trip to Gloucester. Appears to be a sports bar with all the TVs but interesting there was no sound. Odd. Service was good.

The sword is the most welcoming pub in Gloucester. Brilliant atmosphere and even better pints at very competitive prices. Tuesday quiz night is a riot and a highlight of the week. Steve and Sandra are the best possible hosts anyone could ask for. Thank you for the birthday cakes it was so though full of you lots of love potters xx

The land lady is foul mouthed , who feels it is acceptable to cast aspersions on other members of the public without an iota of evidence or respect- shame on her!! The establishment would otherwise be a reasonable place to visit

Don't expect too much but it's a decent cheap beers boozer aimed at the middle age/ retired and ex services market. Handy position mid Westgate Street! And sports TV if you like
