Great pub, good beer great atmosphere, what else do you need?

What a fantastic hidden gem last time I visited this place was 47 years and it still has the same charm

Came to eat with a very old friend who is from the local area. The food was some of the best I’ve had in a very long time - the quality of some of the best restaurants I’ve eaten in. Looking forward to coming back!

I deleted my initial review as I commented that the portion of cheese and onion pie was rather small... The owner replied and said I must have had an early bird portion... My table was booked at 7,pm, early bird finishes at 6pm, I paid for a full price portion ☹️☹️ The food was good, plates lovely and hot and service pleasant..

We had dinner here and liked it. It’s cosy and full of character. The food is good, and we had a nice bottle of Rioja to wash it down with. We’ll visit again!

Excellent village pub. Great selection of real ale.

Absolutely first class meals, eight people in the group and there wasn’t a single negative comment. The menu meals offered a varied choice including vegetarian options; and the specials board selection were just a delight. So the ale selection deserves a mention.

Incredible food and incredible staff. The rake iced if this pub to its current Landlady is the best thing to happen to this pub since Tim and Michael left. The food and service are just excellent. Nowhere compares to this pub fur great food and drink. An absolute gem in a beautiful location.

fabulous building, fabulous hostess & chef. The most wonderful food-really different starter, the best sausage meal, best cheese & onion pie ever! & the chips-Mmmm! Meal deal fantastic value for money. Just the right portion sizes.could not find fault at all.

Not been for a while as I found previous owners rude . Went on a recommendation early doors on a Saturday lunch . We were pleasantly surprised, food was excellent and perfectly cooked . Lovely home made pie with nice chunky , crispy chips . Pub food done well - what more can you ask for

Went here today for an early tea/late lunch and had off the early bird menu. Two courses were £13! Absolute bargain. Especially so when the food came. It was gorgeous. I had leek and potato soup with focaccia bread, my husband had the chicken salad to start. Then for mains I had veggie sausages, chive mash, Yorkshire pudding with sticky onion gravy and my husband had fish and chips. The portions and taste were incredible value and tasted amazing! I haven’t had good pub food in a long time and it was executed very well. The staff were lovely and even made a plain omelette for our dog! I’d really recommend coming here

Very poor meal, tiny portions, embarrassingly so, the chips were inedible some refried and greasy from lunch or yesterday and the others lighter in colour not cooked through. Who can't make chips!!!!! Also a lemonade and lime which was over £4.10 what a rip off.

Lovely pub in Dobcross with a lot of character. Food is really nice and in my opinion some of the nicest pub food in the area with plenty to choose from. It's kid friendly and definitely one of our more frequented pubs because of this.

What a lovely old pub. Tucked away in the hills and dales, The Swan has a great kitchen. Elevated pub grub for real comfort eating. Clearly pies are a speciality. December, in front of a log fire - what’s not to like? We ordered a selection of dishes including a stunning homemade corned beef hash with soft poached egg. Here’s the thing though, there were some other items on the menu which were bought in (for Christmas I guess) such as mince pies - warmed up and average. Shouldn’t have been on the menu because the homemade stuff is excellent. Eat in the front room, ask the server for what’s homemade on the menu and cosy up with someone you love.

We had a lovely meal at The Swan at Dob's Cross. When we booked we spoke to a lovely, cheerful lady who said it was no problem for our little cockapoo to join us, which instantly made us feel welcome. The pub is scenic, cosy and atmospheric. The food was really delicious too. The chips were sensational and there was plenty of everything. Nice service and a good range of veggie options. You park in nearby streets, but this wasn't a problem at all. If we are ever in the area again, we'll be back. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Lovely little local pub, in a quiet little village in Saddleworth. Definitely worth a visit if you want a calm atmosphere, great beer and amazing food. Also dog friendly which is a bonus.

Just had the most amazing meal proper Steak & Kidney Pudding. Absolutley gorgeous, can't recommend this lovely pub enough. Always a fav place to eat when visiting Saddleworth. Hope that is a regular on the menu!!

I think I caught this one on a bad day, fish chips and mushy peas, chips and peas were fine but the fish thin greasy and obviously frozen.

Well as for homemade pie???? Mmmm not sure whose home it was made? The cheese and onion pie was awful it was a 16th of a pie (small to say the least) and no taste? It was actually really bad! It said it came with beans all 15 of them! Not a place I would recommend for food! I wish I had taken a photo to show how poor it was. Such a shame the actual pub is lovely and used to have fabulous food 😔

A small but busy pub (even on a weekday). The food was excellent and the staff were able to provide a group of 18 with a pre-booked meal around 5pm. The sausage n mash with yorkshire pud was the dish we had and it was full of flavour and piping hot. Highly recommended. Well done to the friendly staff :). Dogs are welcome too.

2 pints and a main meal for £20! Bargains. Great selection of grub including the local cheese and onion pie.

First time back today after 4 years and less than impressed. Food used to be great, in particular the cheese and onion pie which was excellent in the past. Used to be unctuous and plentiful, with melted cheese oozing out of the sides! But now...bland, strangely textured and considerably smaller. Not worth the price TBH. Customer service also not great, with the once welcoming atmosphere now saddly lacking!

Had the dayset menu ,two courses, rag pudding best I've ever tasted, apple blackberry crumble really nice,will definitely be going back.

Dropped in after a walk. It's a lovely old pub, with a reasonable selection of beers and the food was amazing.

Really disappointed. We had pre booked and were shown to the worst table in the place, but to be fair, being reseated immediately. Ordered a beer and bottle of wine at the bar. Got the beer, but had to return to the bar for the wine Asked the waiter what the sauces comprised of to be told, ' Don't know, comes out of a bottle or it's new tonight so don't know' We ordered 4 starters/light bites Korean Prawns, Salt & pepper wings, pate and fish dippers. Expecting prawns cooked in a spicy sauce and wings cooked in salt and pepper. Korean Prawns and salt and pepper wings were coated in a tasteless, thick batter, almost doubling the size with very little in the middle, accompanied by a sauce, presumably from the afore mentioned bottle. They tasted as if they had been bought in from a catering supplier. The batter on the fish was very soggy, but on a good note, the pate was quite nice. To top it all, the barmaid came out, serving food, with a tea towel tucked into the back of her jeans, ughhh. £50 not well spent.

My new local. Consistently good food and a good selection of beers. Very cozy and welcoming, and the staff and owners are all really nice. Dog-friendly - and the staff brought our dog his own plate of treats when we last ate there!

This review is for 2 visits in December - the second because the first was so good! A lovely place - grade II listed full of charm - and the new(ish) owner and staff are fabulous. Friendly, easy, obliging front of house - and super tasty food from a skilled chef who knows his onions! Love it :)

Beautiful country pub, dinner was lovely, only 1 complaint!, very cold snowy weekend and pub felt cold, heard the woman on next table say the same. Why wernt those lovely fires lit that they advertise?

Went for a Sunday meal with a friend and my 8 year old sons and everything was brilliant. The nacho starter with spicy beef from the specials board was so good, the beef was pink and juicy, the vegetables were fresh and tasty, the portion sizes were generous..... Everyone's food was spot on, the staff were friendly and the service was great. The pub is lovely and welcoming, a real traditional country pub, we'll definitely be going back!

We visited The Swan for the first time for a drink yesterday and went back today with all my family for Sunday Lunch. The food was fantastic. Fresh ingredients, cooked from scratch, great flavors and good value. The waitress couldn’t do enough to help us and the owner was professional and made us feel very welcome ! Will definitely be back

Haven’t been to The Swan for ages and we were very pleased we did tonight. The food was very good and service very pleasant in a nice setting. Won’t be long before we’re back!

Visited The Swan for a joint birthday celebration and we were not disappointed! It’s spotlessly clean and obviously well managed. Excellent menu, first class food and superb staff who couldnt have been more friendly and efficient. The beer is extremely well kept too! Highly recommended!

We had heard that this local pub was under new management and with a great chef. Well, we were not disappointed. We were greeted by extremely friendly staff and the chef came out to speak to us personally as well. The food was of great quality - classic pub food with a special Swan Inn trademark it seems. We all loved our food and want to return during different seasons to experience the fires etc. Had forgotten how lovely Dobcross is too. :-)Go now!

Had a lovely Sunday dinner here last weekend. We had the roast beef which was melt in the mouth tender with all the trimmings cooked to perfection and reasonably priced. The service is excellent and the staff are welcoming and friendly. I would recommend that you go as soon as. Enjoy!

The Swan is a very special pub serving the village and visitors with top class food wine and beers.

Went this afternoon for drinks. Felt more like a cafe then a drinking establishment. No sense of urgency, or co ordination of table service. Waited 45 minutes after being seated to be acknowledged. Spent 20 mins drinking it, and 10 mins waiting to pay. Pity, as this is usually a very good, chocolate box pub. Disappointed

Have just had a really tasty curry courtesy of The Swan. Everything we had was super fresh and full of flavour. Naan bread, amazing! Very well done and thank you.
