One of the best roast dinners ever!! Absolutely gorgeous!

Lovely food and lovely service, never disappoints would recommend to anyone!!

Had chicken curry the chicken was in big pieces skin still on and very chewy not cooked or prepared correctly chef needs to do alot better. Never used to be this bad not sure if they got different chef personally I would sack him for the appalling chicken that was put in curry.. Been to toilet 3 times so far not feeling well. Avoid this place or risk food poisoning. Waste of £17 just hope nobody else gets what I was given I should have raised the issue at the time but I'm not one for moaning until this morning stomach killing me and not well

Not been in for a while. Saturday tea time lots of empty tables. Ordered 2 cheese and onion pies as they had run out of steak and ale pie Had starters of pate, it was tasteless and the bread was awful The main came sprinked with some kind of green stuff all over it. The once homemade chunky chip have been replaced with thin frozen fries plus the plates have significantly reduced in size Also ordered tempura onion rings which were soggy and nit crispy. Overall the food was very poor quality will not be returning

Just been to the Horton Arms and what a fantastic atmosphere. The staff are so polite and helpful and the food is outstanding, I had Duck Breast from the valentines menu and it was to die for. Would definitely recommend and we will be coming back for sure.

I went here today the burger was raw the lady soon as we come in was very rude

Disappointing to say the least I booked in over the phone and was told I was able to have a Sunday dinner. Once I arrived they let us spend money on drinks before seating us to then tell us there was five meals on the menu unavailable including a Sunday dinner. Whilst explaining this to us the couple next to us ordered a Sunday dinner? Which we was told was because they reserved one? I find this hard to believe when I rang up and specifically asked if we could have a Sunday roast. I also think there’s favouritism when it comes to the locals which is a real shame. Due to the limited menu we was forced to order a steak, the cook clearly doesn’t know what a medium steak looks like as it came out mooing!!! I was also charged an extra £4.25 for sauce I was told was included. I will not be returning as the food and staff behind the bar was not very understanding or professional when it comes to serving customers who may not be locals! If you are going to dine here may I suggest reserving your meals and drinks as well as a table. I would like to add the staff behind the bar not including the manager was very rude.

I've never been to this pub before. I was visiting mum and brother. We were greeted by what i think was the landlady. A nice welcome. I opted for the fish and chips which was probably the best pub fish and chips I've ever had which i told the waitress. Mum and brother had the pie which they enjoyed. A nice experience so will definitely be going back next time I'm up. Oh and sorry for about to put wood on the roaring fire :-)

Visit to the Horton Arms at 4pm ordered a J.w.lees cask bitter after given it time to settle was cloudy and horrible. So brought to barmans attention ,who stated plenty that day had been sold and must be empty barrel.No offer of change of barrel I ask for jwlees smooth bitter,placing on bar freshly poured pint ,once again cloudy pint I brought to barman attention who took the funnies ,I swiftly left never to return .Paying good money you expect "better bitter"very poor barman.

Not been in Horton Arms for a while, called in twice recently. Very surprised..New Chef,New Menu New style. All our party enjoyed the food immensely, taste & presentation excellent. Gastro dining. Will be back more frequently.

Rude bar staff food was horrible and cold . All my daughter asked was about the milk in coffee and bar staff replied “we are not a coffee shop” . The staff member during our meal continued to point at my daughter sharing and laughing with other staff members she had asked about the milk as she needed soya ok if they don’t do it but no reason to be rude . We did not complain at the time as it was obvious it would have been confrontational. Will not return this was Sunday lunch

The dinner at the Horton arms was TREMENDOUS LOVED EVERY MINUTE, ALL STAFF ARE AMAZING, catered for all of my dietary needs every time I’ve been 🫶

Nipped in for a quick drink on way to some where else . Not allowed in as event on at 8 pm lots of time to spare before it started . We would have been gone well before that so they lost out on £100 from us and we went some where else . They were serving people inside sat at the bar so clearly being selective who they were serving .

Booked for table of 9 in the main room and sat in the pet friendly room on a table for 8. We chose from the very limted xmas menu and as the food arrived we realised we had made a big mistake. Spag & Bol dry as a camel's flip flop and you could tell the meat balls where cheaply bought that went with it. The xmas roast beef sandwich was 2 slices of stale bread with a handful of french fries and the curry ordered looked liked a childs portiion. Profit clearly comes before quality. Nothing homemade WHATSOEVER. There was also no table service so a very expensive meal for an over priced meal. Speaking to others, they also thought the food was very poor. Will not be eating there again. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID.

Disappointing visit, only the Festive menu was on offer , Specials main courses were unavailable. We pondered the menu for a while feeling obliged to choose something from the limited selection, then waited around 45mins to be served. Won’t be rushing back anytime soon.

Well were do i start after having Xmas lunch last year which was exceptional we were all looking forward to this years, oh dear what a let down soup overly salty bread soaked in something not sure what, beef Wellington soggy pastry and very bland meat all I got was the Wellington 1 and half carrots 1 parsnip and brocoli were was the potatoes!!!! Turkey dinner was cold in parts and turkey extremely dry, onto dessert we had xmas pudding sold as being served with custard only to be given ice cream very poor substitute others had apple crumble with a hint of cinnamon all I can say is you couldn't taste the apple and the crumble both people who had complained of nearly breaking a tooth it was that hard in parts. Needless to say unfortunately we won't be back next year.

Joined by my fabulous family for my birthday. Food for 9 of us and service was amazing especially the duck - delicious!! Thanks to all the staff, made my birthday special.

Was disappointed to see on the bill when i got home, that i had been charged £7.45 for a non alcoholic cocktail plus a further £1.65 for a Pipers?? I did not expect to pay full price when no rum was added to my cocktail and what is a pipers? I would not have left a £10 tip if i had realised whilst in the pub. Otherwise apart from this, the food and service where excellant and i would not hesitare to go back again, though i will remembr to check my bill in future.

I have frequented this pub for many years with my friends aka the Wednesday club, for drinks mostly, and occasionally meals. I enjoy the cosy ambience with the 2 log fires and excellent seasonal decorations, making it my favourite pub in Oldham, and the array of beers from JW Lees brewery, especially the seasonal Plum Pudding, which is a plum porter, which I wish they did all year round. I also especially enjoy the home made cheese and onion pie (the type that you can get in some chippies in Oldham, and my grandma used to make). This review is long overdue, but I finally decided I really must make my thoughts known after we ate there last night, and I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the food. I really regret I didn't take any photos. They have just hired a new head chef, and someone should really give the guy a Michelin star! The breaded calamari for starters was so fresh and delicious, not the usual rubbery fare that pubs serve. The chilli was pulled slow cooked beef brisket, not the usual huge vat of cooked mince that pubs do. The pan fried sea bass was delicious. The pork belly also. And the chicken breast looked very succulent. My friend had this tremendous looking warm black pudding scotch egg for starter with a soft not hardboiled egg in the middle. We were so stuffed after all this we couldn't manage desserts, but they do Mrs Dowsons ice-cream, and various home made crumbles etc. Also the place is dog friendly and your best friend will be treated like royalty, with a doggy menu available. As well as complimentary dog biscuits. The beer garden is spacious and good in summer also. And there is ample parking. So, in short, well done to the landlord Emma and son Jamie, for your tremendous work, and if you haven't eaten there for a while, treat yourself!

The menu appears to have been reduced so wasn't much on it for me and my wife in terms of choice but the burgers were nice. Steak was dependent on the cut of the day Sirloin for the price was a little expensive in my opinion. The pub last orders were 10pm I guess that's because over a period of time they have measured when best to shut although was a little early for our party of eight. Overall ok, no complaints with the staff.

We visited today, for my birthday meal, and it was beautiful. Food was amazing, and the staff were so lovely. Definitely be back again in the near future! 🥰

One of the best Sunday lunches we've had. Everything cooked to perfection, moist, succulent turkey, beautifully seasoned roasties, and tasty veg. Would highly recommend.

We have always loved eating at the Horton(been going for years)but our last experience was very disappointing.the chilli came in 3 small dishes,meat,rice and nachos,(not one large bowl as previously served in the pub)didn’t fill us up at all and not worth £15.on the plus side the waitress was superb and the pub is lovely.will need to here good reports before we eat there again

Waiting staff were lovely but can’t say the same about the food We were greeted with four items not on the menu, Saturday evening and they’d run out of pub classics. Ended up ordering the fish and chips Although it looked nice the underside of the fish was not cooked and very soggy, my other half had the cheese and onion pie which was nice but a very small portion. Very disappointing and won’t be back in the near future

Me and my partner ate here tonight and it was STUNNING. My first time ever trying Gnocchi and it was delicious. My partner had the Barnsley Chop and devoured it. Would definitely recommend and will be returning.

New winter menu is gorgeous! The chicken thigh jalfrezi is the best! My partner got the steak and he loved it too!

Just met up with family and 2 dogs from North Yorkshire, Cheshire and North Wales for a birthday get together. Once upon a time we all used to live in Royton and frequented here often so was a bit apprehensive of how it was many years on. I think it may have a new tenant/owner but it was well worth the long journey for all of us as the food was delicious. If you are local and have not been please give it a go, I'm sure you will return.

Disappointed - been a few times and thought I’d give it one last go Again, all the specials were fish Again, not all the main menu was available Again, waited over an hour for mains to be served & the place wasn’t even busy. (Only 4 tables in) Food only only warm not hot, again. Missing items from platters, again!

Very dissapointed. A party of 10 covers so not a small amount of money involved and each and every person didn't have a nice thing to say about the experience. Speaking personally I went for the Sunday roast...... Two half potatoes, a section of stem broccoli (under cooked), what I think was carrot and sweed mush, a small slice of roast beef that was mostly fat and grissel and a slice of the driest and tasteless turkey. Apart from that it was OK. The tonic water I had was fine.

We have been several times always good very efficient nice staff only had one bad time when w e sat next to a table of loud mouthed families who I suppose would have been at home on a building site

At long last this place is back to a very professional. Restaurant. The food was amazing the service was perfect and the servers were very nice and very polite. We stopped going about 3 years ago because the owner was a joke. So now it’s back at the top of our list. Which is great because it’s very local for us. Came to this beautiful pub today, first time since it’s been took over by the new lovely owner, it did not disappoint. Owner and staff were all friendly and welcoming on arrival, we also had a lovely chat with the owner Emma for a while! Didn’t have to wait long for service on drinks or food order. I had a Sunday Roast and it was delicious, perfectly presented and so filling, we were told there was a wait on food as the pub was very busy at this point and it did not surprise me. We waited no more than 30/40 minutes though which is acceptable for a home cooked food pub/restaurant. Would recommend this place to everyone for food and drinks as it’s a lovely friendly and warm atmosphere in there and we will definitely be coming back!

Service exceptionally slow, waited 3/4 of an hour for starters after ordering then 1hour after starters to them bringing the mains. My particular meal the Sunday dinner was cold , roast potatoes hard , pigs in blankets missing though they were on the bill. Ordered 2 gluton free chicken burgers on buns they came on toast !! No gf buns but we weren't told or given the option to order something else. Was also charged full price. Hasten to say I won't be going again . Disappointed as we had been told it was a fab place to eat. Also staff couldn't stop arguing amongst themselves

Waited over an hour for starter and then again for mains .Food was awful Sunday dinner cold, rock hard warm ups for roast potatoes. Meat stone cold gravy had that much pepper you couldn't taste anything . Ordered 2 gluton free chicken burgers on gluton free buns..... they came on toast , not told they had no GF buns when ordering or at anytime in the hour we were waiting for our food. We were there 3 hours , 2 hours.15 minutes waiting 45 minutes eating.Totally spoiled my sons birthday meal .Won't be going again.

Terrible with a capital T myself and my family decided to go to the Horton Arms to celebrate a family occasion and were extremely disappointed with the service we received and the standard of the food that was presented to us. We have used the Horton Arms for many years and have had no real complaints or issues with either the service or the standard of food. The service was poor and we waited for over an hour for both our starters and our mains after our starters. We complained twice about the time the food was taking and nothing was done or any extra effort to correct the inconvenience. The chef was stood in the bar rather than preparing food flirting with the female bar staff and waitresses. The food when it finally arrived was stone cold and looked like something that had been thrown into the trash. We will never use this establishment again as the staff and the food have dramatically fallen since our previous visits as plenty of others have left review on below.

We booked a party of 8 for a business meeting, and the staff were absolutely fantastic despite dealing with a difficult situation with another party. It’s appalling how some people think they can treat others. Kudos to the team for handling it so professionally. Our food was delicious, and the service was excellent. Keep up the good work!

Attended family event at the Horton Arms. Staff were amazing. Proper traditional food was on hand. The meat and potato pie was out of this world. Hats off to whoever made it. Very smart inside. Looks like a refurb took place not long ago.

The food was lovely, but the service needs a lot to be desired, we waited over an hour for our food to be served, plus I ordered an extra beer to go with my food which was forgotten about, I had to remind them more than once, so we won't be going back anytime soon ☹️

Went here this evening where we ordered three rump steaks, one came out a tiny thin sirloin which was dry and overcooked. The very stressed and, in her own words, “flustered” waitress said that we wanted it well done!? Which we did not….very very poor staff customer service….How can this pub be nominated best food pub of the year!! Staff need some training on how to be with customers! Extremely overpriced for the quality of food we got…We will not be returning….the management need to sort their staff out!

Lovely place to go with family & friends, food selection very good quality, prices are fair related to products. Not cheap food, don't think you will pay cheap. Book a table and your rag pudim, they go fast!! We had issue last time we came round, was rectified by Emma, very professional. This is a great pub with high quality food and really friendly staff. Thoroughly recommended - steaks were delicious but all food of a good standard. We will be back.

Called in for lunch, greeted by a friendly happy woman who showed us to a table straight away. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. We were impressed by the interior, nicely decorated.

Food was nice,high end prices for pub food but service and wait time shocking, practically empty and we still waited over 40 minutes to order and for food,was completely ignored, had to go to servers and ask to order food and for bill,shame as don't know if we would return

First time coming here, initially to just use toilet however got refused which is fair enough. we compromised and asked if we can buy some water and then the female bartender then had the audacity to ask for my ID!! Absolutely horrible experience, made me and my friends feel incredibly uncomfortable and distressed

The best pub in Oldham bar none. Scrap that, Greater Manchester. Great food, great atmosphere, great times. Some facts about the pub: Emma can lift up a bar stool, whilst she is sat on it. Carl is part rabbit, part machine, his sole purpose is to make you and your loved ones happy from the minute you enter the premises. The bar staff as a whole operate a rule - if we don't laugh at your jokes, you owe us a drink. This either results in laughter, or them socialising with you, a cunning win win scenario. The food is cooked with loved, greased by the tears of baby Jesus himself (insert other relevant god where applicable, they are ridiculously inclusive like that) Dogs are welcome, even ones that identify as cats. All in all I wholeheartedly recommend this pub, a warm, welcoming place that makes sure you always leave with a smile on your face. If you love a pint of light, come here, i swear it's the best pint of light you will ever have. The crisps are lovely too. See you Friday guys x

Really good food. Nice selection of alcohol available. The pies are thick and filled well with tasty fillings. The burger was lovely. Nice and thick meat tasty sauce. The fries were good little small ones but easy to eat and the homemade coleslaw was creamy. Would recommend a visit.

Wonderful food, wonderful service

Booked a table of 20 - had to preorder which is expected. Arrived at 6pm for our booking time. Plenty of time to get drinks and be settled. Food started to come out about 40 mins later - in my opinion perfect timing. We all got to catch to and chill out. Food was fresh and hot and all came out at the same time. Very well organised. Staff were so friendly especially the lady with the short hair and glasses . Just really nice, cosy experience with family and the food was delicious. Thank you. Hospitality is a thankless job x would defo recommend

Lovely food birthday meal for a friend

Despite the fact that it wasn't busy, (we booked early) the atmosphere was warm and cosy. My servers were attentive, efficient, and friendly. The food was delicious and I am wondering why I don't go in there more often. I intend to change this as we had a thoroughly lovely time.

One to avoid! Fish was all batter and two mouthful of fish . Did complain but nothing was said or done. Almostt like they dont care. Service was terrible too, waiting staff to steched .

This place is ok. Quiet Thursday night. The dish we wanted wasn’t available. Food ok. Came out wrong twice. But corrected. Not sure I’d return.

Early evening midweek night so not at all busy, however, waited an hour before being served and the food (fish and chips) was dire. It’s been a while since our previous visit and ownership has changed with food quality and service taking a nose-dive. Won’t be back.
