The Swan Inn in South Hams

From the moment we arrive Amy the manager was welcoming and accommodating even though they were very busy. She managed to find us a table that was meant to be for 2 but became 3 at the last minute. The service was second to none. Check jacks and asking for more drinks when it was appropriate. The food itself, starters were just enough and tasty but the mains, no words……… Just incredible. Chicken, pork and salmon and each dish was stunning. Compliments to the kitchen.

Had a lovely meal. Exceptional service even helped me turn my monster Volvo car around when we were leaving!

Only popped down to the village to give the dog a wee walk after our day out. Stopped by the Swan for a cheeky pint as it looked like a friendly place - we weren’t wrong and bonus - got creekside seating☺️ Shame we already had dinner sorted, as the food looked cracking too.

Went for the regatta, was rammed but staff were great and there were a good selection of beers!

We arrived by a small boat and beached next to the pub. It's in a delightful location. Only had a drink on this occasion. Barmaid was friendly. Would return.

This is my first ever review! I just had to . What a wonderful place ! Proper chargrilled chicken and burgers. Run by proper people .. girls you were amazing . If you lived 200 miles north , you would both have a job with me ! Keep doing what you are doing. Keep it real .

Pizza to die for. Main menu amazing. Ate there twice as couldn’t decide. Home made desserts. The sunset is breathtaking. The outside seating makes the most of the view

Excellent for gluten free choices. Staff knowledge of the menu and gluten free choices excellent. We ate here early May 2024 and though there was a limited gluten free choice the staff were unsure of what was and what wasn't gluten free. Even struggled with the ice cream. In may husband ordered fish and chips and wasn't told that there was no batter on his fish. Today so different and great to see that the burger is now gluten free. Well done for improving so much in just a few weeks. Looking forward to returning to eat here in the coming weeks.

Stunning pub in a great location. The bar staff are fabulous, the guy that served us was very attentive and friendly, we could not fault his customer service. Would highly recommend.

Stopped here for lunch on the way back to Newton Ferrers. The service was excellent, as was the food. They have a covered seating area overlooking the creek which was ideal on a not so sunny afternoon so we could still enjoy the view. Book in advance - they’re very popular and rightly so! Thanks to the lovely girl who served us and compliments to the chef. Only sorry we can’t get booked in again before we leave!

I want to give this pub an extra star for the service! We went twice in the last fortnight; the lunch was lovely (great chips, and the veggie kofta was delicious), and I love the casual atmosphere. On top of that the staff went above and beyond to accommodate our disabled son's tastes, and remembered what he liked on our second visit. They also gave us a totally unasked-for extra consideration, which was done so discreetly we didn't actually notice it till afterwards! We'll be back.

What a lovely Pub this is! We got a friendly, warm welcome from the Bar staff as well as the restaurant staff. When my husband mentioned my serious food allergy, the Chef came out to discuss it and reassure us. What more could you ask for? The food is really tasty ( we ate lunch and dinner there). Wow, what can I say about the Hake - the best fish dish I’ve had in a long while! Sitting in their covered terrace area, looking down the river, with a glass of something cold is an experience I shall remember in a long while. Ps make sure you book, they get busy.

Fabulous village pub/restaurant in Noss Mayo. Lovely seating area at the front with excellent views of the River Yealm. The food was excellent and the service friendly and efficient. Everything you could ask for

Service and staff great. Food well prepared and tasty. However, my fish and chips left me disappointed. The fish was VERY small…taste fine but expensive for what it was..

it'sIgetting harder to find good quality food with good service and a reasonable price so this place is a real find. First it has a great location - right on a small inlet of the river with the sunset on the water ahead and views of the village and hilltops all around. The outdoor area is well heated and sheltered. Next the service - very helpful staff who know their menu. Although the place was clearly very busy there was no feeling of being rushed to vacate the table and no long waits for food. Finally the menu - not the largest selection, but the food offered was the best we've had in ages. The crab linguine and Thai chicken curry are highly recommended. And the desserts - wow! Often UK pub desserts are a disappointment - microwaved supermarket cakes, but in this case the portions are huge and the quality is amazing. The cheesecake is massive and full of flavour. We would definitely recommend this for eating. Judging by the need to book tables on weekday nights, lots of other people recommend it too.

We sat in their outside covered and heated area, very well organised with blankets. The food was amazing, the service was excellent they were very attentive all very accommodating. We arrived a bit earlier than our table was booked but they happily served us earlier. Fabulous place.

My weekend away was made perfect simply by the community found at the Swan. The staff were amazing, food was spectacular and at a great price. Then after just a few hours there we had made friends. Very thankful to have found this place within the first hour of our 48 hour trip away. Arlen especially was a delight!

Popular little pub, sitting on the estuary. We booked a table for an evening meal, the bar was bustling and very lively. We had a nice table near the fire and were pleasantly surprised by the fresh and tasty food we were served. I had a lovely starter of crab arancini, followed by a monkfish and prawn curry. Both were nicely seasoned, well presented and tasted good. Everyone in our party enjoyed the food though there was a little disappointment at the sticky toffee pudding, which was a little flat and stodgy. All in all a nice pub with good food and friendly service.

Loved the outdoor area, great views in a cosy atmosphere. Good food and service, definitely want to come back and experience the evening offerings. Having gluten intolerance it was also refreshing to see that this was catered for and of exceptional quality rather than an afterthought.

Welcoming and accommodating crew at the Swan Inn. Great pub with superb food. We didn't book a table for this evening but we were found a slot table, you must visit the Swan Inn if you are in the area....so we booked a table for tomorrow.

This is the best pub in the area by far, much better than The Dolphin or The Ship. The staff are friendly and efficient. But the food, it’s fantastic, all cooked to order, dietary requirements catered for. When we were there last week, we both had Spiced Cod, followed by a chocolate brownie and a tiramisu, truly delicious.

Wow ! Loved it all. All super. Fell in love with the Waitress, didnt want to leave.

The location is great and we've eaten well here before, but this meal was disappointing. Perhaps because it was late-ish on a Saturday evening and supplies were a bit depleted? The fish and chips were modest, with very basic (frozen?) chips. The cod loin: the cod itself was good, but accompanied by half a plate of basic sides (think cold, lumpy couscous).

Excellent location for early supper in a beautiful setting overlooking the Yealm estuary at Noss Mayo. Service was swift and attentive and food delicious; we all had three courses and enjoyed it all. Great value for money and we we will definitely return. Fortunate to have a window seat in the covered outdoor dining area with a fantastic view and protection from the gale force winds.

Celebrating our Wedding Anniversary while walking the South West Coastal Path, we found ourselves in Noss Mayo and went to The Swan Inn for a celebratory meal. We had a lovely outside table for two, right on the edge of the river catching the sun as it went down. Service and food was very good. A lovely setting! Would highly recommend.

We have eaten at The Swan many times and each time has been absolutely fantastic. With such a great choice locally in 3 pubs, The Swan always delivers 100%. Tonight was very busy but the team coped with it very professionally. I’ve paid over 4 times as much elsewhere for a Negroni and those served these evening stood out as the best ever. Next to the description of ‘best pub ever’ in the dictionary should be The Swan at Noss Mayo. Thank you again so much and look forward to seeing you again soon

It was a lovely hot day and all I wanted was a light meal. I had a couple of hours to kill and fancied some fish. I had the prawn and smoked salmon starter with a fresh baguette. The servers couldn't be more friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I had a zero beer and sat outside taking in the air and the lovely view. I'll be back!

Finally came here on a sunny day and got a table as it is normally full on sunny days. Had lovely drinks, lunch and dessert served by very lovely and welcoming staff.

Lovely Landlords, great band and fantastic atmosphere. This coupled with excellent staff makes it very worth a visit.

My partner and I were staying next door at the holiday let. All of the staff were very helpful and obliging they even gave us some milk and a few teabags because we didn’t bring any with us. The food was all lovely particularly enjoyed the burgers. It was gorgeous sat outside underneath the large canopied seating area overlooking the beautiful estuary where the pub provide heaters and blankets. I was particularly impressed with those that were working on the evenings we ate there Wednesday and Thursday - very polite and looked after us very well. We can’t recommend enough!

The management and staff could not have been more helpful in accommodating two friends, with one in an electric wheel chair. We sat in the covered area outside, next to a heater and enjoyed magnificent views and excellent food. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. It was an important day out for lunch and the Swan Inn was the perfect venue.

We visited as a party of four on a Thursday evening. We have been going to this pub for many years and watched a number of people manage it. However the couple that run it now are doing a great job. The food was tremendous. We all ordered different dishes, venison loin, fish and chips, seared tuna on crab risotto and gilt head bream. All of which were outstanding. For dessert we had homemade caramel cheesecake, which being a baker myself was superb! Would highly recommend and suggest you book. Service was very good and atmosphere great with a lovely open fire. We will return.

Great food and great service from more of a proper pub unlike the other two in Noss and Newton which give you a dirty look if you don’t order food with your drink.

We have been staying in beautiful Noss Mayo for 4 years and always enjoy our visits to the Swan. Whether we are eating or just having a drink the service and quality is fantastic, and we are made to feel very welcome. The food menu is really interesting, with something for everyone - the blackened cod is a particular favourite of ours and is always beautifully cooked. There seeems to be a good mix of locals, blow ins and holiday makers which gives the pub a really lovely atmosphere- and the view from the outside decking area (which is covered to allow for the British weather) or the quay is the icing on the cake . If you are not within walking distance of the pub parking might be interesting in the summer, and I would definitely recommend booking a table if you want food. Star of the show is Harry the black labrador who adds to the charm of the Swan and is such a lovely gentle character, greeting all 'his' guests with a friendly wag of his tail before going for a dip in the creek.

I’ve drunk here a few times, but never eaten here until today. We had the All at Sea sharing platter, followed by the Italian Seafood Stew and the Crab Linguine. Absolutely delicious, sizeable portions, accompanied by delicious cocktails, beer and wine.The service was beyond perfect and the vibe was fabulous, despite the weather deciding to get nasty. Can’t wait to eat indoors; quiz night on Tuesday!Thank you, James and Amy.

We ate a great lunch at the Swan on May 13th. They have a covered outdoor decked area overlooking the water, complete with patio heaters and blankets for the benches, so poor weather needn't put you off. Our fish (cod for the wife and monkfish scampi for me) were lovely, piping hot with a really light crispy tempura style batter. What's more the service was quick and the staff really friendly and helpful - wouldn't hesitate to recommend

The Swan has been a great place to eat this week , Amy is very accommodating.This is the fourth time we have eaten here in the last week.The fish chowder was so tasty.Monk fish and chips was so yummy.The views are great.

I called in advance before booking a table to see if this pub could accommodate my friend’s vegan diet. The chef was very flexible and we were advised there were a number of options on the menu, or other dishes could be adapted to be vegan. Staff remembered this on the day (the guy with dark curly hair, don’t know his name sorry!) and all were really friendly and accommodating. The new beer garden looks great and the addition of heaters and blankets makes it lovely and cosy. All topped off my the stunning view of course, happy to have this as one of our locals!

Our pubs are open again and it is great to see The Swan busy and full of happy customers. We have already been a few times since Monday and the standard of service, food, cleanliness and general great atmosphere is as high as ever. Spent a Covid re-arranged week in Noss Mayo and booked the Swan for our first nights meal. We both ordered the fish and chips and were not disappointed. The fish was pure white and plentiful with hearty chips and pea puree. All in all a fantastic meal and good value. We were not rushed to leave the pub, as per the only drinking if you are having a substantial meal new rule. However, the same could not be said for some of the locals, which was a shame given how the virus has exploded in Devon recently.

We arrived early on a Sunday morning, as part of walking the South West Coast Path. We weren't sure if they'd be open but we got hot drinks and the friendliest of welcomes. Blankets brought out to the outdoor seating area overlooking the river, and a good chat with the landlady. What a lovely place!

A very attractive, cosy, pub with well spaced tables. An open fire was a nice feature on a wet day. Both meals we had, ham, egg and chips and cottage pie, were delicious and good value. Service was prompt and friendly.

Stopped off for drinks after a long walk. Sat outside on the terrace next to the chiminea. The food smelled great so ordered the fish stew and fish burger - tasted amazing! Great view over the estuary. Brilliant service. Looking forward to returning :)

We are staying in the area and it's a nice walk around the bay to eat out. Not sure if it was the full menu due to Covid but could not Co. Plain, good food, big portions, was shutting for renovations this week so not worth commenting on decor

Lovely varied menu, unlike many other places during Covid. I had a superb Italian fish stew and my husband had bubble & squeak cottage pie which was equally as good. To finish I had hot home made chocolate brownie with summer fruit and ice cream. It was amazing! We ate out 4 times during our holiday and this was by far the best!

Lovely. Very mediterranean style offering which I didn't expect but enjoyed it (linguine gamberi) and the service was bang on.

We stayed for a week right next door to the Swan, the service was spot on, the beer spot on and the food was great. Well worth a visit to this nice friendly hostelry!
