The Swan Inn in South Staffordshire

What a lovely venue! Seriously could not fault the service or the atmosphere! So warm and relaxing! And as for the food!! By far the best steak I had for a very long time! Faultless visit, thank you to all the staff involved!! Will definitely be returning.

Slow service - waited a long time for a waitress to serve us and didn’t check in on us after food arrived/quite rude collecting plates. Terrible quality food - small portions, fatty gammon. Would avoid in future.

First time dining here and we were expecting great things. 3 of our 4 drinks were wrong when they arrived, which were corrected when asked. The Sunday lunch was a bit bland, one bowl of veg between 3 seemed a bit sparse, all cooked well however. The vegan chilli was inedible spicy, we enjoy spicy food but it was unpalatable, when we told the server there was no offer to change it of refund it. The chips that came with it were very good. Its good value for money but it didn't quite hit the spot. The young staff were working really hard and were very pleasant.

Turned up without booking on the off chance we could get a table for 6, Paul the Manager was extremely helpful and managed to squeeze us in after a short wait, The food was top quality and very tasty, Very reasonably priced, all the staff made us feel very welcome. Lovely pub and play area for kids.

We absolutely love this place & try & go nearly every week for a meal, beers & stop over in our day van. The owners & staff are so friendly & welcoming & work so hard to please. Love the food here (especially the cheese & onion baps behind the bar 😋 always freshly made ) & the food is very reasonable priced! Steak nights are great value too. What a fantastic place to visit. Food and service exceptional. Fish & chips and hunters chicken were the best I’ve ever had. Servers were all very attentive and nothing was too much trouble even though they were very busy. 5 stars all the way, we will definitely be back.

Fantastic food, had the steak and ale pie meat just melted in your mouth. Also had a sirloin steak which was delicious with the Stilton sauce. Staff friendly & helpful

This place is amazing, whoever thinks that it takes too long to have a coffee is off their head, every coffee I've ever had from here takes like 2 minutes, and even the sarnies are better than Costa, seriously though, many happy visits with plenty to come!!!

Beer selection is fantastic, Coffee is great quality and service is fast and professional. Excellent experience all around.

Ate at The Swan at Whiston this evening, we have always enjoyed the food but tonight was exceptional. We both had food from the specials board, a special burger and a pan fried seabass with new potatoes, kind prawns, garlic butter sauce and samphire. Both meals were incredible. The burger was one of the best we’ve ever had, the seabass was out of this world, cooked perfectly and so unbelievably tasty. We were so impressed with every aspect of our meal and of the service. Highly recommend.

The food here is superb. Filling, delicious, a huge menu and lots of variety. The pub is cosy and friendly. So pleased it’s still at its former standards. The only reason I gave it a 4 rather than a 5 was that when we finished our main, we were left. No plates collected or desserts offered, we had to ask. This took quite a while. My only complaint and not a huge one. I’ll definitely be going back.

3 Sunday lunches and a kids jumbo sausage chips and salad, with a few drinks and two desserts. From the time we walked in to the time we walked out the service was exceptional. The food was fantastic, a group of 20 arrived as we were about to have our main meal, I was so impressed on how the staff attended to them with drinks. We walked to The Swan on a Saturday lunchtime in January. We had a couple of drinks and a bite to eat in the bar; we had our dog with us and dogs are allowed in the bar area, which is great. There’s a really good selection of beers/ales and the food menu is extensive - lots of choice! We ordered a couple of burgers, which were delicious! They were homemade, full of flavour, generously portion sized and great value for money. The pub was clean and tidy, and the service was excellent. We will be back!

Cycled to the swan yesterday, a good selection of quality ales, friendy bars staff & great ham cob, stayed longer than planned. Also visited for a meal recently which was very good.

Came in for Sunday lunch with my family. Shown to our table & drinks ordered very efficiently. Food was lovely well presented & came quickly. Roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese were really good. Puddings were also delicious, chocolate fudge cake is always a hit! Lovely staff & another good experience here!

Came in on Friday evening in a large party and we wernt disappointed, the food tasted so good and I have to say one of the better xmas meals iv ever had, the drinks selection had a decent array of good wines and the setting was soooo cosy, defo coming back with family for another meal

Tried it out on a recommendation from a friend. Excellent food, service was great. We were a party of 8 plus 2 children and so we tried a variety of the menu and to be totally honest we were all very happy. Wonderful time had by all. Thanks for a great evening.

Visited with friends for a Sunday lunch, waited over an hour for the food to arrive. Everyone complained that the potatoes were cold, the whole meal was not very warm, cold plates, some of the yorkshire puddings were burnt, and the beef was so tough we struggled to cut it let alone eat it, l took mine home for the dog.They knocked 20% off the bill, on reflection l do not think we should have been charged. The poor waitresses were saying sorry to other people. We will not be returning.

We visit quite regularly and you never had a reason to complain, but on this occasion, the Christmas party, none of the vegetables Belly pork with this gristle and overcooked I had a cheesecake for dessert. It was horrible just over with cream and biscuit which tasted as if it had been in a fridge for a week. for a Christmas fair

We are a Soirts Car Club and we have been using this place as our meeting venue and all I can say is it gets better every time we go. The food and staff are exceptional. Also Hannah and Paul keep it running fantastically and everyone is so friendly. Robin and her team are brilliant

Nice old fashioned pub restaurant serving real ales and ciders. The food was produced in good time but was of varying quality. Rib eye steak was delicious and cooked very well with onion rings, rocket and vine tomatoes and peas. However the lasagne, although plentiful and generously layered with plenty of beef, was somewhat dry. There was no sauce between the layers which was such a shame as it had otherwise been well prepared.

Booked for Sunday lunch we had great expectations as we had a good review.Unfortunately we were very disappointed the food was cold served on cold plates the beef was extremely tough ,we told the waitress and we were offered free puddings this we did not want as it looked to us as we were just looking for freebie’s. When we got the bill we had drinks added which were not ordered.

Popped in for a cheeky Thursday lunch and what a treat. Delicious Steak and Ale Pie super choice of veg and to die for home made chips. All washed down with a lovely Malbec. Spot on!!

May I Thankyou once again for a fantastic evening. The food and drinks were tasty and wholesome. (Not a scrap left with our lot). The staff couldn’t do enough for us and a family of eight with some of us being really picky we were looked after and nothing was too much trouble. Robyn was our server for the evening and we couldn’t have asked for a better person. She was attentive, patient and very pleasant in her manner. We went for a family celebration for our grandson going off to University, there was 11 in the party. The food was outstanding, the 2 young waitresses were very attentive and were brilliant when bringing out a celebration cake. Such a cosy and inviting setting, we will certainly be returning.

Absolutely brilliant place with super lovely owners and friendly locals who make you feel so welcome that you don't want to leave! We stayed here overnight in our campervan and had some delicious home cooked food and a brilliant evening of drinks and chat afterwards. Paul & Hannah run a fantastic establishment and clearly work really hard - we cannot wait to return! Thank you for taking such good care of us and hope the beer festival was a roaring success! :-)

Came to the swan for lunch and really surprised with the choices available. Full menu, plus lunch time light meals & a specials board. Both had carbonara special. Food was amazing, served in a timely manner and very friendly staff. No chocolate brownie available but we were probably too full anyway!

Went for a celebratory birthday as a family. Had heard great things but was disappointed with the service. Steak was fantastic and very generous portions of chips. Starter of breaded mushrooms were very hard and the sharer platter for two was mainly onion rings and breaded mushrooms with only one chicken goujon each. We asked for more sauces that we didn’t receive, twice the wrong order came to the table that was meant for someone else and also a portion of vegetables weren’t received that we ordered. The waitresses didn’t seem to have much knowledge about the drinks available and only came over when nearly finished to ask if everything was ok with our meals. Took a long time for the order to be taken initially and the waiting staff seemed like they didn’t want to be there. Such a shame as previous visit that my family went they said it was great.

Visited today after moving to the area and have been wanting to try it for a while after hearing great news about the venue, staff were welcoming and pleasant, our starters were good but both myself and my husband were not impressed with our mains, I ordered the stilton burger which was tough and not at all enjoyable, my husband ordered fish and chips, the fish was very greasy to the point he started feeling unwell as we left and has been unwell in himself since we left, £50 lighter and a regrettable visit, we won't visiting again, very disappointed 😔

What a gem of a place can honestly say it blows any of those national companies out of the water, proper food above and beyond with the quality. It was absolutely amazing to see home cooked, meaning home cooked. I can highly recommend the fish pie, the lasagna the steak and ale pie, and the sirloin steak. The chips were real chips, although they could be mistaken for roast potatoes. Proper home portions. The service was out of this world a real credit to the pub. All staff were very friendly and actually looking like they were enjoying their work. There isn't anything negative I can say about the Swan. Well done, we will definitely be back soon.

Lovely setting, lovely food, great selection of ales, good value. Unfortunately service was not great, very slow for food and drinks. Tables very close together, so much so that there is no privacy and you can overhear and be overheard by the people on the next table. And watch them eating. Such a shame that this charming pub was let down by things that are so simple to get right.

We had heard how good the food was here so we decided to try it out. We had booked a table for 8pm it wasn’t quite ready when we arrived but we were shown into the bar and by the time we got our drinks the table was ready. Our party ordered starters which came very quickly and they were lovely garlic mushrooms, soup and southern fried chicken. The food was piping hot We then had our mains which came quickly again lovely and hot steak and ale pie and the curry , there was plenty of chips, salad and vegetables to accompany the meals. I unfortunately was full so I didn’t order a pudding but the rest of the table had them, apple pie, lemon meringue all amazing We got the bill and we’re surprised how cheap it was and a round of drinks was on the bill as well We definitely will be back soon

After a long journey, we arrived at The Swan in our motorhome to stay the night in their car park. The food was amazing and generous portions. Friendly staff. Would definitely come back if we were in the area again Great pub food

I had high hopes of this restaurant as it had been recommednded to me. However, I can honestly say it was the worst streak I had ever been served. I ordered a sirlaoin steak at something like £18.00 I ordered medium to well and in the event it was more medium than medium to well; with the meat inside being still a bit pinkish. That aside, the first thing I found was that it was full of fat but hey, I discarded that which left me with a much smaller piece of steak. However, what I was left with was so tough it was almost impossible to chew it. After the first piece Icut the rest into small pieces, which was also difficult, wrapped it in a couple of serviettes and gave it to my friend to take home for her dog. I sat there with some hard vegetables and a peppercorn sauce. On the way home I stopped to get a take away as I was hungry. My husband and two friends were fine with their meals although they said the portions were smaller than they had been given the last time they went there. My other problem as a diabetic was that they had nothing I could drink and one of my friends also had nothing to drink due to limited choice. We had water.

We hadn't been to this pub before and with our young daughter being a fussy eater the kids was rite up her street. Upon entering we were greeted by a friendly and welcoming member of staff. We ordered our drinks at the and found our table shortly after a member of staff came and took our order. We didn't have to wait long for our food plus the pub filled up very quickly. All the meals were great nice and hot and a really good portion size. We all enjoyed our meals apart from my mum she was offered something else but she declined. To be fair the did take the meal off the bill we will very impressed and will definitely be back soon

Visited with family. Food made fresh to order and they accommodated our ‘bespoke’ orders. Lovely friendly staff and surroundings. Gorgeous burger and brioche bun. Homemade chips and very fresh salad. Would return definitely!

No Sunday lunches left at 4 pm but that doesn't matter at the Swan as all the food is exceptional and reasonably priced.

I have frequented the swan on many occasions the food is generally of good standard the normally big bear is having to queue for a drink at the bar normally for some time. Tonight the service was pretty poor, in all fairness the waitress appeared to be on her own but it was not busy. We waited about an hour for our food, we only had mains. The food was ok. The pub itself is tired and needs some TLC. Based on our experience tonight I do not think I’ll be returning anytime soon.

I wanted to take my husband out for Father's day and found this place online through Goggle search and decided to go, as we only live in Cannock. My husband is very skeptical of trying new places, but we were greatly surprise. Lovely Country pub feel as soon as you walk through the door, friendly and pleasing staff. We didn't book but managed to get a table quite easily. The service was excellent and the food was delicious, with plenty of it being on offer. Would definitely go back.

Situated down a lane this is a large rambling 'olde worlde' Staffordshire country pub with an impressive range of real ales and ciders along with lagers and wines.

What a beautiful find in Penkridge and the bar is canine friendly at the bar area where you can order food from the full menu.

Lovely place with good food, it is probably advisable to book. We were recommended this place by our host at an Airbnb. Better to drive as taxis to/from Stafford around £40 return trip. Nice pint of Holdens as well.

Went for Sunday lunch to be told there was no roast dinners, fish and chips, steak and ale pie or lasagne. Very, very poor for 5pm on a Sunday and the excuse of being busy doesn’t wash as they should expect to be busy on a Sunday. Will not be returning.

The Swan in our eyes is overall one of the nicest pubs you would wish to visit. We have had many meals here and never had any cause to complain, we have yet to find another pub that beats the Swan, for quality and service. The owners, Mike, Helen and family are lovely, all the staff are always friendly and helpful.

We have been visiting The Swan at Whiston for five years and the food just gets better and better. The Steak & ale pie is first class, the chicken to die for and the selection of fine ales, unrivalled. A huge thank you to all staff for another extremely satisfying Sunday lunch!

Fancy some good Pub food. Cooked and presented with care at a reasonable price. The specials board had as much choice as the A la Carte menu. Set in an old country pub where you can eat on the Bar tables or eat in a more traditional restaurant style. Great atmosphere helped by local guest Ales and Ciders

We have stopped here a number of times over recent years and the food this time did not disappoint. Particularly enjoyed the lamb suet pudding and the fish with very tasty chips. A lovely country pub with nice gardens and good real ale - definitely worth the detour off the main road.

We visited on a sunday afternoon, came for the amazing Sunday lunch which at £7.95 is such good value compared to other places round this area. Portion was huge with a massive home made Yorkshire pudding on my roast beef. Veg all served separate lovely creamy mash and loads of gravy! Again, another fantastic meal. Looking forward to the next one already!

oh my god how quickly has a place gone down the pan, been here numerous occasions always been good to fair but tonight new lows very very poor 2 rib eye steaks disgusting so much gristle and tasteless not even 3 mouthfuls without having to spit it out, sent one back but to be fair wasn't better than the other, chips frozen kind and not fresh and some were still hard, lemon meringue soggy pastry and congealed lemon awful,offered free puds but couldn't face, and offered it as a thank you and were told the steaks wouldn't be charged for, we were billed for them and paid , but wont ever be going back their, so you have been warned, looks like they need a chef.

I have been to the Swan Inn many times, usually on a Friday night to sample the fantastic beers. On a number of occasions I have dined with family and with groups of friends. The food is good and the waiting on staff are excellent.

Where to start? Waitress in a foul mood. No lamb or pork only beef Sunday roast. Once we had the beef, released why - utterly inedible shoe leather - should not have been serving it!! And then went out with a smoker and heard the staff through the kitchen window slagging us off. Customer is always wrong. Do yourself a favour and go to McDonalds. Better service and food is edible. Worst eating experience in 30 years - well done!!!!

We had been recommended this restaurant by friends and we were not disappointed. Just after arrival the manager came over, introduced himself and hoped we had an enjoyable meal. The beer and cider selection was very good with a wine for the ladies. When the food arrived there was more than enough and the quality was very good. My wife and my mate had the beef and ale pie, and afterwards I wished I had had the same. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and will go back.

Having visited many times over the years and had a good time the owners have become rude and arrogant. Don't attempt to book a large party (10) for a special occasion as they are no longer interested and say that it is too much trouble and you will fill their car park up! I expect that it will only be a matter of time before this attitude spreads to their staff and they upset other regulars leading to the same fate as many a country pub - closure!

Phoned to book for lunch for 4, then cancelled due to weather forecast, but reinstated next day as forecast changed - no problem for the Swan Inn! Friendly discussion re choice of drinks, with bonus of local craft cider. Good choice of food and found more than satisfactory by all. Nice rural location and with large car park. Lots of cyclists passing along the lane, and one group called in for lunch and made welcome.

We live about 11 miles from the pub but it was worth the drive for the service and the food. Meals are large android pub grub. Definitely glad I did not have a starter! The portions are generous and for a bigger appetite than mine. Drinks are reasonably priced and there is quite a selection of beers, ciders and wines. Will be putting this one on the 'list' and recommending it to friends.

A meal at anytime is good and their Tuesday monthly steak night is excellent BUT you do need to book in advance to check which Tuesday. Good food and good value - what more can anybody want?
