So disappointed. We visited last year and had a really good meal but our meal this time was not good. Starters were lovely - tasty and a good size. Kids meal was also good value and our child enjoyed it. We visited on a Sunday so ordered the Sunday roast - we both had beef. The meat was so tough I couldn’t cut it. When I did manage to drag a piece off to eat, it was chewy. My partners was the same. We had to leave the meat which of course is one of the main parts of a roast!! The potato’s were good but the Yorkshire was overdone. The accompanying veg was served on a plate and consisted of a quarter of a cabbage (uncut which was awkward when sharing), a whole carrot cut into four and massive pieces of bland parsnips. The pub didn’t charge us for the mains tbf to them but I would have rather had a nice meal and paid! Won’t return which is a shame.

Last minute Sunday roast decision. Rang them and explained it would be two plus our dog. No problem come down. Nice and relaxed atmosphere. Drinks prices reasonable. Had the Camembert starter. It’s a sharing selection. Delicious. I had roast beef. GF had chicken. Massive portions. Barney (dog) helped me with mine. Defo return. Photo of plate after demolishing it.

The Swan at Braybrooke has recently been taken over and I heard on the grapevine that they were no longer doing food. I was really disappointed as the food here was absolutely lovely. Thankfully, what I heard was not true. I went for lunch last Friday on my own as I had a rare day off. I sat in the beautiful garden in the sun with a starter, crispy chunky chips, a glass of white wine and my book. It was peaceful and idyllic. The starter of mushrooms stuffed with herbs, breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese were delicious and who doesn't love a chunky, crispy chip. I can't wait to do this all again... british weather permitting.

We have just had a fabulous Sunday lunch here, excellent and plentiful food, attentive staff and a pleasant atmosphere. Sadly, after many years of dining at The Swan, we are unlikely to return. Whilst we understand this is a dog friendly place, having two enormous dogs (controlling their owners) pass by our table shredding fur and drooling is not something we wish to be subjected to. It seems consideration to paying guests has been overruled by the furry kind. We have a number of pets but don’t feel the need to take them everywhere with us and they wouldn’t thank us either for being taken into a pub.

Offered a desert menu as they cleared our mains, after 30 mins nobody had come to take our order or see if we wanted any more drinks. We went to find someone from behind the bar only to be told that we couldn’t order coffee as they’d already turned the machine off. It was just coming up for 9:30pm. Really? They then asked if we still wanted to order deserts; we said no, just the bill please as what we really wanted was a coffee after dinner. After another 10 minutes we went to ask for the bill again. Waitress brought the bill and said they didn’t want us to go home unhappy, so she would discount the food. She knocked £1.50 off a £95 bill, which was frankly insulting. After another 10 minutes waiting for somebody to come and take payment we went to pay at the bar where she kept telling us it was £15 per person more as she kept dividing the bill by three when there were four of us. We clearly weren’t welcome and the priority of the staff was to shut up and shove off at the earliest opportunity. Avoid at all costs.

We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to the Swan. We were greeted and seated promptly. We chose pork bites and garlic mushrooms for our starters. We had a beef and pork sharing platter for our main course and a duo of tartlets and a sticky toffee pudding for dessert. With a couple of large wines, a pint, a coke and two coffees the bill was a shade under £90.

We've been wanting to try the Swan for a long time now after hearing good things from friends. Sadly we didn't have a very good experience and won't be going back which isn't something we find often at all. The main reason for this review and rating is due to my food being raw. I gave 2 stars as my husband's food was lovely but otherwise it would have been 1. My fish and chips sadly was raw at one end of the fish. The batter was raw in places as well as it was far too thick almost like a dough instead of a batter. It left me feeling quite unwell and put me off even trying a fresh plate after letting the waiting staff know. To top it off they brought the bill and hadn't even removed my plate from the total which we thought was poor hospitality. That was £19 for something that wasn't edible. We then just wanted to leave but waited a long time for the bill and eventually went to the bar to pay. Seemed understaffed and inexperienced. Just an additional note that we made a booking just 2 days before and then showed up and they had no record of it so they had to check if they could fit us in. Overall just gutted because we've waited a while to try and it couldn't have been much worse.

Every time I go to this pub there is something. This time it was the booking - the staff seem unable to put a reservation on a table it would appear. We had requested a table in the bar when book in advance on line as we had our dog with us, but no - but know they wanted to put us in a room with some large Christmas party bookings. Every time we go there is something, no steak then they did 10 minutes later, the no fish, then no wine, then no sauce for steaks, then other issues with bookings, then added stuff on the bill we hadn’t had - there is always something The other issue is the staff who are inexperienced and see to have no manager avalanche to guide than so are unable to handle a busy evening or answer queries We left this time without dinning and went somewhere else - we will not be going back

Every part of the meal was poor. We were put on a table in the conservatory, which was cold. The house white wine was like vinegar. The prawn starter lacked sauce and had been just plonked on the plate. The turkey in the main course was cut from from a roll, not from a freshly cooked turkey! I had 3 sprouts. The chocolate desert was dry and without sauce. I asked for and received cream. Service was cheerless. Based on reports from friends I had high hopes for my meal here but was extremely disappointed.

This was our first experience and will certainly not be out last. The standard was set from the minute we entered the bar area, greeted with smiles by the friendly and professional staff. We were shown to our seats and the manager came over to explain that there may be a slight delay as they were very busy and that all the food is cooked fresh. This was great to hear and see after the last year and having this explained, we were more than happy to sit and enjoy our drinks, in what felt like a busy yet organised and bustling environment. We felt very looked after throughout and were never without a drink. The manager thanked us for our patience and chatted with us for a while at the end of the meal. It was great to hear that business is good and that plenty of people are supporting this one. The delay wasn’t too long and when the food arrived it was well presented and delicious. We particularly enjoyed the Steak which was cooked to perfection. The Malbec was recommended and this did not disappoint. We will definitely be back very soon. A group of us take weekly countryside rambles, typically walking around 10km to a pub where we have a drink and lunch before returning to our cars by a shorter route. Over the years we have been welcomed by virtually every village pub around Market Harborough that is open for lunch, in the past including the Swan. In return we have been pleased to support local hostelries through what have been tough times. This week, our intention was to lunch there, and, as usual, earlier in the week I telephoned to check that it would be open and serving food. From memory, I did not say that we would arrive on foot but most certainly was not warned of any necessity to book in advance. In a group of five we arrived at 12:30pm when there was just one other customer seated at the bar, behind which two ladies were serving. Initially, we were assigned a table, ordered beers and two hot drinks (a pot of tea and an Americano coffee), and requested copies of the lunch menu. Although the beers were served immediately, we were advised that the hot drinks would be subject to a ten-minute delay. Ten minutes came and went with no sign of the hot drinks or, for that matter, the promised menu. During this time our party increased by two people who had driven to join us and a number – possibly a dozen or so – other customers arrived and were served drinks and some food items in the conservatory annex. Once again, we were told that there would be a delay in serving the hot drinks. Another ten minutes came and went with no sign of drinks or menu, by which time we had all reached the similar conclusion that the staff were signalling that we were simply not welcome and after a total of 30 minutes decided to settle our bill and leave. (Only on examining the bill later did I note that, in addition to the beers, it included ‘Pot of tea for one (£3)’ and ‘Americano (£3)’, which, along with the Swan’s luncheon menu, we never did get to see). If staff shortage was a problem, this could have been stated at the outset leaving us happy to have drinks and then leave without having lunch, but this did not happen. I struggle to recall being treated with such evident disdain by any past 'hospitality' service provider and, although in the past I have enjoyed meals and functions in the Swan, I will never eat or drink there again while it remains under the current management. But, then perhaps this was their intention all along -- "Walkers not welcome"?

Overall the restaurant and pub has a good atmosphere. The menu is a little confused but we order a starter, main and sweet. Both starter were good and my partners main was good too. Unfortunately, my steak was very very average - little flavour, ordered a medium rare but the steak was only warm ! I also ordered a Stilton sauce which was very watery and very little flavour. To be fair the waitress asked if everything was ok and when I explained about the sauce - she took it off the bill. Both sweets were ok but the sticky toffee pudding once again was only warm not hot! Overall we both disappointed and felt that food was only average and over priced. However, I would like to say the staff were good and attentive.

I love the swan and have been coming for many years and have just tried their afternoon tea.We were a little bit disappointed with the minimal amount of food we received. On Facebook I saw a picture that advertised afternoon tea and in the comments it said that was for 3 people. That was bigger than ours was for the 5 of us.On the booking I also requested that they catered for 2 vegetarians, all sandwiches ended up being vegetarian which was a little disappointing. I don’t feel that the £80 for the tea (plus additional costs for drinks) that it cost us it was worth that. I will definitely be back for food off the main menu but will not be bothering with the afternoon tea package again.

We have eaten at the Swan for several years, and always been firm fans of this lovely little country pub. We visited the first time after lockdown a month or so ago and was sad see that the previous owners had moved on. However the food was ok. We have been again this evening and was far from impressed. The outside tables were filthy and had to for them to be cleaned ( ok had just opened but you would have expected this to be done before opening), the floor beneath the table still had the afternoons dinner on it. The food: we had fish & chips and unfortunately it was as if we were at Wetherspoons. The mushy peas were literally peas half mashed. No seasoning, nothing. I can make better at home, the fish appeared to be just packed shaped as both mine and my husbands were pretty much the same and the batter was soggy. The lady inside asked us how everything was, to which I commented on the peas, and it was answered with, ok have a nice day. It is very sad that it was met with this response, as we didn’t want a refund or anything just giving feedback to a question. Might have just been a bad day at the office or worse case, we need to find an alternative eatery.

We always try to try different restaurants but the swan has now become our favourite. The food is always exceptional, from the soup to the pork belly, everything tastes fresh. Their Sunday lunch is one of the best we have ever eaten. Generous portions at a very good price for 2 or 3 courses. Oh and I do need to say if you like Yorkshire pudding, they have some of the biggest I have seen, you can also get one filled with a cheese fondue with all the roast trimmings. Nothing has ever been too much trouble even when we have been with a fussy customer. Great COVID safety throughout, even sanitiser bottles on every table. Through these hard times having a great independent restaurant that produces quality and standards like they do is something that needs to be talked about. Keep up the great work

My friend and I visited on Wednesday during their Eat Out to Help Out promotion. We both had Braised Lamb as mains and Coconut and Pineapple Cake for pudding but a plate of Tempura Prawns and I had Whitebait for starters.Delicious.He was really happy with his choice, as was I. The whitebait was full of flavour and was clearly fresh. I’ve had fried whitebait many times but this sautéd approach really bright out the flavour. Whitebait is one of my all time favourite dishes and it’s a rare treat on a menu. The lamb was sublime. Soft, no fat, film of flavour and with a really great gravy. We forgot to photograph the food it was so good.We just couldn’t understand some of the strange and negative reviews over the last few weeks. The Swan once again delivered great food, and service regardless of the price. I’ve eaten out a lot over the last few weeks, and some places have had poor COVID-19 protection and, understandably different menus to their norm, but here we had 5 or 6 choices for each course, which is amazing, more than enough for us to have to debate over. 3 courses for £10 - I couldn’t buy the ingredients for that cost.

I was even treated to some of the Chef's coconut cake which he had just made and was amazed to learn it was vegan. The Chef is now making a special anniversary cake for my parents visit

First time going out since covid, felt safe and well-attended to. My family thought the Eat Out to Help Out deal was great value and the menu catered to all our tastes. The Swan got the ambience right, but most importantly the food too! Everything was delicious and portions were perfect. High quality food but a homey pub feel. Will definitely be coming back!

First time out as a family since lockdown, what can I say very well looked after, we all felt very safe. Hand sanitiser stations, staff wearing masks to name but a few of their precautions. The food was faultless, even tho there was a couple of awkward orders, all dealt with without hesitation and very professional. We all can wait to eat out again, Shame they are fully booked for the help out scheme as this would of been our first choice judging on tonight. Can’t wait to return

Took my family here for lunch today. It was extremely disappointing. Feels like they are taking advantage of the government scheme. Only able to choose from a limited special menu of 4 different dishes at £10 per head . It was no way worth £20 in pre covid times. Will not be back.

Feel disappointed that they have restricted the menu due to eat out to help out. What could have been an opportunity to showcase their excellent food actually felt like they have just put easy cheap food on a limited menu and you should be greatful as its just £10. Seriously only worth £10. But you'll get another £10 from the government. Took away the spirit of the offer. Not impressed. Even though I am told their usual menu is fab. We won't be back. Upside staff were nice.

I have been a fan of the Swan for many years but feel that the way they have presented this government offer is completely wrong... They should be offering their normal menu with 50% off not a special menu that is no way the usual offering for £20.. We ordered burgers for my grandsons who have had them before and they were nothing like the what used to be the famous Swan burgers... Disappointed with the whole experience... been to other establishment's and been offered their usual menu with 50% off... which is what it should be

My partner and I called here for lunch and took advantage of the three courses for the two of us for £20 (a £20 reduction EOTHO).Starters: tempura vegetables, .. - good; chicken parfait, ... - not parfait at all, just a very ordinary block of pate on ciabatta (disappointing!).Mains: wild mushroom and sage risotto - ok; fish and chips, peas ... - the smallest piece of fish I've EVER been offered. I mentioned the size to a waitress and apparently that's standard size. Served with fries (chips please!) - ok.Dessert: panna cotta - delicious; chocolate and orange cake - very nice.Mocha to finish - lovely.Without EOTOHO the three courses for 2 would have cost £40!! Bearing in mind the taxpayer (me and probably you) are paying towards this, I don't think it offered great value for money. We won't hurry back.

We went for our first meal out last month and had a super time. Sanitizing our hands on arrival and following the one way system out to back, tables far apart and all waiting staff wearing masks and keeping their distance as much as they could..we were seen to by one waitress which I liked as it kept the people we were in contact with to a minimum. The food was superb, Sunday lunch really well presented and more food than I could possibly eat...I felt completely safe in this new-normal.With the government midweek eating out incentive we booked again.Again the standards were great. Hand sanitizer on arrival and a one way system in place. We were also given a table far away from any other dining guest which was great. Made us feel as though it was home from home. The set menu had a good choice and the soup of the day was amazing. Again, fantastic portion sizes, too much for me to finish and very tasty. The downfall of the evening though was that we were served in total by 4 people at the table. When setting out the cutlery, the waitress came right between us. I'd have rather she left them at the end of the table. When the drinks were brought over, the other waitress carried them at the very top of the water glasses, where we would put our mouth to drink and finally when clearing our plates later she swooped up the drinks by grabbing the very top of the glass with her fingers. The drink wasnt finished so she quickly apologised and left the drink. Obviously, this wasnt going to be drunk now.I would have expected a clean glass brought over with a small measure of fresh beer to replace.I didn't want to make a fuss, I just sat observant .There were no visors or masks worn this time but I do understand from their facebook page temperatures of staff are taken before the shift. The pub is lovely and one of my favourites. The food is always delicious and I'd like to return again soon. Please take my feedback as constructive and not as a personal criticism. I work in an industry where we build the customer experience based on feedback and wanted to do just that.I highly recommend this pub, just not so much grabbing of glasses at the top where I'm drinking from please ( even pre covid, not acceptable ).Thank you

Went for our first post lockdown meal, a Sunday lunch at The Swan. It didn't disappoint as our reintroduction to eating out. The food was fantastic, the menu choices for a Sunday lunch time had something for everyone. I had the grilled mackerel, ceasar salad, and summer pudding which were all excellent. The Sunday lunches looked amazing and judging by how quiet everyone was as soon as the main course arrived, very much enjoyed by all.The protection in place against Covid made us feel safe and comfortable without changing the general ambience of the pub. There's a one way system in place, all the staff are in masks, there's lots of sanitiser stations and we watched regular cleaning of tables and other high touch areas. Both indoor and outdoor tables are well spaced and there's now large areas of outdoor seating front and back. All round worth a visit.

If you’re looking for a cosy, country pub - the Swan is well worth the visit. Cosy seating, warm open fire and a good choice on the menu. It’s busy enough to get the atmosphere but not too busy to get a table / seat. Nice warm friendly staff too. We will be back, when Boris gives the nod.

Ilwe rang ahead to advise allergies and dietary requirements and received truly excellent effort to meet our needs. Usually we make do with items being removed from the menu or a poor attempt at vegan alternative but the chef cooked up a delicious nut roast and there were several vegan coeliac options on the menu to choose from. Lovely calm ambience and very clean, welcoming decor. Have been recommending everywhere. Go see for yourself!

We haven't visited the Swan at Braybrooke for quite a while but decided to give it a try under it's new ownership on Friday. On the plus side I thought 4 courses for £29 was good value but the food was just OK really. I ad the fillet steak and Shin of beef which was miniscule although cooked quite nicely. The rest of our table had surf and turf which was rump steak ( one of which had to be sent back twice to get it cooked medium well as requested as oppose to rare which it came as) The prawns were king prawns and a bit rubbery - I would have preferred a single tiger prawn than 3 of the king prawns really. The waitress didnt know the answers to any of the questions we asked her about the menu but did go and find out the answers and eventually we had the service of Cerys the owner who did go out of her way to try and ensure we were happy. I couldn't say it was a bad meal at all but It wasnt that great and probably wouldn't go back again

We hoped to visit The Swan for a family lunch on Boxing day, a gathering of twelve people from various parts of the UK. My sister booked the table in early autumn but was told that menus were not yet available. She had to ring numerous times, right up until the week before Christmas, attempting to find out what food was available, as we have gluten-intolerant and vegetarians in our family. Despite promises of a lovely menu being prepared no details were forthcoming,no telephone calls were returned, nor emails. As a group we were not able to look forward to our annual gathering as we had no confidence it would go ahead. The Swan gave a strong impression of being disorganized, unreliable, and uninterested in catering for a large group willing to pay generously for a festive meal. As Christmas day approached, we were forced to make other, last minute arrangements (not easy to book a special meal, in a lovely restaurant, for twelve people, around Christmas, as any organizer will tell you!). The Swan ruined our annual family gathering, and treated us with disrespect.

Booked a few weeks ago for our son’s 17th birthday. Booked at 7, we arrived early. We ordered drinks at the bar and we were seated at 7 to be told they had run out of menus and would be with us as soon as possible. We were happy to wait, however when we ordered we were told as we had only ordered main courses our food would be a while. At 7.55 2 of the 5 meals arrived. A few minutes passed and were then advised that the waitress had fallen and the other 3 meals needed to be recooked. We ordered another round of drinks whilst we waited. We then got our remaining meals just after 8.15...We were sympathetic to the waitress, however whilst we had an apology I would have expected the 3 additional drinks to be on the house... so we had 7 soft drinks & 5 main course and the bill was over £90Shame as the food was great, but my son didn’t have the evening we hoped! All could have been resolved if they had a service recovery plan...

Ate here last Saturday with my wife, son & daughter. It is a very nice pub with a good friendly atmosphere. Had looked at the menu online but as it turned out it was the first evening on their new menu. We thought it was fairly limited in choice but the waitress said we could take some dishes off the lunch menu if we wanted to which was good.My wife had the scallops which were gorgeous - but only 2 for £8 was a bit stingy. I had the ham hock which sounded nice but was little disapointed it was pressed meat served like slices of sausage (only 2 mind) and cold. Not withstanding that it was tasty. My daughter/son shared the breads/olives. The bread was fresh, crusty and tasty and the butter full of flavour. For mains my daughter had fish and chips off the lunch menu which she throughly enjoyed. I had the monkfish which was excellent but felt charging a for a side of veg was inappropriate. My wifes hake was delicious. My son had the beef which again was of excellent quality. The service was friendly but the poor girl was looking after too many table to be able to cope. Overall a good evening which could have been even better.

As a villager I was hoping to use the pub for a group walking lunch in the new year and support its message of being a community pub. However, over the last month, following two visits on different lunchtimes and emailing two different addresses, no satisfactory response. I did get an email with a query after my second visit, which I replied to immediately, but nothing since! If this type of business is not wanted, then an honest reply would be appreciated and maintain goodwill locally.

We had got lucky and managed to get a late booking table for Boxing Day lunch. As we hadn't visited for quite some time, we were looking forward to treating my husband's very elderly father who was staying with us for Christmas. Swift service to our reserved table, and our starters of tempura prawns and soup was very good indeed. However, the mains were disappointing: the butternut squash & walnut risotto was rather disastrous - not the creamy, well seasoned affair I had been expecting, but more like a bland rice salad, with over-toasted walnuts lending a burnt after-taste. The others had pork belly - very tough, and lacked a selection of fresh vegetables. We all decided on baked spice pineapple - very nicely presented in tumblers, but very difficult to eat as a result, particularly as the top piece of pineapple was rather tough to cut through, and the elderly father with dentures was unable to manage the dessert at all, but was provided with replacement (and reportedly) extremely good blackcurrant icecream. We decided to forgo coffee, and were pleased that our comments were taken seriously when it was time to pay the bill, with a decent discount offered as goodwill.

We are villagers in Braybrooke and called today at lunchtime just for a drink. We were virtually told there was nowhere to sit anymore to enjoy a drink. It seems the whole pub has been taken over to eating. They have done away with the cosy corners which were reserved for enjoying a lunchtime drink. The furniture has been replaced with cheap looking tables and chairs.

We managed to get alate booking on Sunday towards the end of the day for 6 of us. The service was great, we were seated and served really promptly. The roast was amazing! As it was nearing the end of the day we were offered a choice of having all meats..... the carrot and swede mash was amazing, yorkshires, red cabbage.... literally everything on the plate was amazing and done so well! Bread sauce was a major bonus!!!! The chef then came out and gifted us some extra desserts and introduced himself. I think he's fairly new to the pub but smashing it obviously!!!

Use this pub quite lot, with varying results, could not believe it when I visited one evening and all TWELVE real ales were unavailable!! Certain members of staff seemed to find this situation amusing, presumably because no beer means no work.

Disappointing Sunday carvery - roast potatoes were boiled not roasted, skin was left on. The gravy was watery, the Yorkshire pudding was deflated and dense. Only nice thing about it was the meat was cooked nice. We won’t be returning unfortunately.

This was the second time we visited and it was worse than the first but we thought we’d give it another chance. Skimpy on the portions - except for the huge Yorkshire pudding. The vegetable portion was so small I had to ask for more. The fish cake was ok but I can get the same if not better from a supermarket. No cheese board or any cheese other than cheddar. At Christmas time no cheese and port?? The roast potatoes were chewy and the whole meal was bland. It didn’t cost too much but what’s the hype all about? If this is the best pub in Britain then we’re in a lot of trouble. 🙁 Disappointing Tollemache, very disappointing, we will not return again.
