Atrocious. 16 of us in for carvery. Tables booked so they knew we were coming. Not ready for us.. told we would have to wait to go up to be served. Wait and wait and wait. I think they forgot us🤦🏼‍♀️ Had to ask if we could get food after a ¾hr wait. Very little food left and what was there had dried up. No excuse it was atrocious

Don’t Rant often See my review previously on same pub which was very high how ever how disappointed am I Went in today. Mother’s Day, it was not busy @ 15:00 or not as we could see Soon discovered Stella had gone and the previous land lady Was meet by a woman from what we could see sounding like it was a huge chaw working in a pub Asked for a pint was told when I have time ! I asked if we could get food was told have you booked, my answer was no, was told no tables available but there clearly was Got my pint and some snacks As people arrived it did fill up but not to all tables taken, no offering of food despite sitting at the bar On family arrived that nearly walked out due to there greeting by same person This confirmed it was not me or my state of mind despite being faced with to many negatives The lady had a purple T Shirt on and should not be any kind of host as she has spoiled it for the others who clearly work hard Big shame and was not necessary You need to sort out your personality issues or get out of being a publican Tony

Before I rant. The food is delicious. But.. This is definitely NOT a carvery. Avoid it. It's just a normal Sunday roast. They are very funny if you ask for seconds, considering this is a "carvery" because that's what a carvery IS. The younger staff (some of)are awkward when you ask about it. Honestly, like you are stealing their food and that it'll come out of your wage. Rude girl behind the servings area. Again, is acting like we are stealing and not paying. Unpleasant. Won't be going again.

Unfortunately I chose a bad time to go. Sunday 5.30pm a.k.a the final serving time. my date was 30 mins late and the staff were'nt happy. They do say on their website that if you are late to let them know, but only one of us was :). anyway, we got the remnants of the carvery and some rushed grumpiness. some of the staff better than others. Overall it was OK and I'm sure at lunchtime it would have been fine.

Went on Tuesday for their carvery night, which is all you can eat although it didn't really feel like it. You wait at your table until you are told you can go up. The big ticket items are like the meat, yorkshires and roast potatoes are served to you and you spoon the veg on. One guy asked for more roast potatoes and the server had to check with his colleague that was OK as they only give out 3 tiny ones. You probably could ask for more on a second visit but would you need to be called up again, just all seemed a little confusing after being told be the lovely Georgina that it was unlimited. Turkey was nice as was the gammon, beef very dry. Chocolate bread and butter pudding was very good indeed. If you look at my reviews I don't think I've ever left a negative one but people had told me this was good and I was disappointed.

Save your money and go somewhere else. Unfortunately on this occasion we regretted visiting. Whilst I understand it is an old building we found ourselves so cold and actually sharing the candle on the table to keep us warm! The starters were all lovely however the mains did disappoint. My wife ordered sausage and mash, the mash was like it was mashed with a spoon and was so lumpy and zero flavouring. My daughter's lasagne was so bland and awful. My other daughter's Alfredo was amazing as was my Thornhill arms burger despite the bitesize bacon portion and small portion.

Went for a Christmas meal with friends and wish we had gone elsewhere. Long wait for food and drinks. Had to ask for them to take a drinks order which took ages to arrive. Then had to ask to order food. Took ages for starter and mains to arrive. No one checked if meal was ok. Had to go to the bar to ask for gravy as the meal was dry. Very average meal, not the Christmas treat we were looking forward to. I wanted a dessert but couldn’t face another long wait. I have eaten many times at the Thornhill but this will definitely be the last. When I paid the bill, which I again had to go up to the bar to do, I expressed the disappointment at the lack of service and quality of the food but the waiter wasn’t bothered at all.

The service was extremely slow, food was not at the standard we had experienced before , 40 minutes wait and it was not busy we were seated on opening time ,so no excuse, the staff didn't look happy very sad to see , almost to a point they had been moaned at by the management. The two lovely girls looked very sad and worn out and seemed to be the only ones doing the best. The desserts took as long as he main to a point we were going to cancel , they arrived to more disappointment, to what looked like a sloppy melted cheese cake , and burnt winter berry crumble with dirty cuterly. We complained to the barman to which he replied ...I will let the chef know . No change on the price still paid full price for something that wasn't worth it . I've always gone to thorn hill arms for various celebrations , I will NOT be back and will not recommend to anyone again . Very cold inside to a point we said with coats on and could wait to pay and leave . Very disappointed.

We went to Thornhill arms for Sunday lunch with the family. My family as meat eaters they thoroughly enjoyed the carvery and the biscoff cheesecake pudding was a highlight for the table. From a vegetarian perspective, there were multiple options on the main menu including a nut roast option with the carvery. This was unfortunately were the meal didn't deliver as the nut roast was a poor accompaniment to the carvery. It was an overly sweet mixture of beans, raisins and Mexican flavouring which didn't suit the roast dinner. There were also some struggles receiving the correct food and drink options but this was due to a new staff member which can be excused given everyone needs to start from somewhere. We would happily go again but would choose our vegetarian option more carefully!

Food not too bad, service not to good!!! Ten of us went there for my brothers 60th birthday. The service was very, very slow. What you think would be old more competent staff were anything, but!! Waited over 25 minutes for our drinks. As one of our group was not eating the carvery they said we would have to wait to be told to go up. After another half hour I had to tell them we were going to get our carvery and to bring the single order as soon as. Only for them said ‘sorry they had forgotten about the single dish and that’s why we’re not ask to go up!! By this time my patience had worn very thin, yet one of the older members of staff just wanted to argue with me, no apologies!!! Shocking!!! At no point did anybody check back to ask how was the food and again after waiting we had to ask for the plates then the empty glasses to be cleared from the table!! Will not be going back any time soon which is a shame as the food was not that too bad and some of the young staff were quite good.

Even though we had booked, and the girl could see the table she sat us on was not set, we eventually, on our way to get our Carvery, had to ask for the table to be set. At the Carvery I requested just gammon and was shocked when the girl placed two thin slivers of meat on my plate, not even full slices of the joint, just slivers, I requested more and she did add two more thicker slices. Think they were just too busy to cope.

We arrived at 1pm for Sunday lunch, our drinks order was taken when we were seated. A work colleague also happened to be there at the same time, arrived 10 minutes after us We had waited 45 minutes and still hadn’t had our order taken. My colleague had his order taken, ate and left before anyone had come to take our order. We eventually had to press the table buzzer 20 minutes after ordering the starters, so now over an hour after arriving, a lady came and told us one of the starters wasn’t available so we had to reorder We had asked if one of us ordered off the menu that we would still eat together if the rest of us had carvery and they assured us we would. They brought my dads meal then told us to go up to the carvery, which was a 15 minute wait, so my dad had ended up eating alone at the table and then had to watch us all eat. No one came to top up drinks the whole time we were there, we ended up going to the bar, which we don’t mind but a heads up would have been helpful as we had sat around waiting and wondering for ages The food was okay but nothing special, definetly not worth the 2.5 hours wait for 2 courses. Overall service needs to be improved.

We booked for 7.30 and arrived at 7.20 and were shown to our table a few minutes later without being able to order drinks at the empty bar We were told they would come to the table to take our drinks order later. 15 minutes passed - no one had arrived so I went back to the empty bar to order drinks and again was told that the drinks order would be taken from the table. Eventually, a clearly overworked lady arrived to take both our food and drink orders. She started by stating what they didn't have. Beef lasagne, fish, and one other dish which I can't remember, and although the menu had a large burger section - they had burgers but no brioche buns to put them in. My wife had intended to order beef lasagne and didn't fancy the veggie one, my friend's wife wanted a burger and couldn't have one. None of us fancied the pie or other dishes on offer and so we politely informed them that we would leave and find somewhere else to eat which we did. There was no apology for the lack of menu choices which we had intended to choose and they didn't seem to care if we stayed or left. We won't be back.

We visited on a Sunday, to have the carvery. We had been out running errands all over, and realised it was late and we were starving, we found the pub on google and decided to give it a try. It was getting on to 3:30 when we arrived, so we thought we’d have missed the lunch rush. When we arrived we were met by a young woman in her late teens and an older lady with short grey hair in her 60s(?). The young woman greeted us and was polite, softly spoken and professional, the older lady was flat rude and clearly didn’t want us to be there. She fussed about what an effort i’d be to accommodate us, but ultimately told us we could have a table but in a short sharp snap told us we should have booked on a Sunday… what are we supposed to do with that information now we are here? Either you want our money today or not, because with a welcome like that, who would go back? I worked in hospitality for many years, across various types of restaurant and pubs, and I’ve worked with people a quarter of this woman’s age who had more awareness of how to treat people. To make a customer feel so unwelcome upon entry, and then also to stand about by the customers toilets clearly bemoaning customers begs belief! Such an unpleasant and uncomfortable experience. We were sat in the bar surrounded by empty tablets, with only one other table with guests eating. So the accommodation had already been made for these, and there were several tables still free, WHAT WAS THE ISSUE? The young woman who served us was lovely and friendly, as was another young woman who took our drinks order. No one told us we had to be called up for the carvery, it was printed on the bottom of the menu and luckily my partner was paying attention as i was confused as to why we were just sat waiting. It was a fairly long wait to be called up but the carvery was okay. The meat and the nut roast option were good, but some items could have been better (the roasties were over cooked, and the red cabbage was smokey which was not to my taste as all). Over all not good enough to out shine being made to feel such an inconvenience. We would have given 3 stars, but since visiting we’ve been told by friends, and seen other reviews, about this rude older lady. This means its regular, management must be aware of it and clearly don’t care enough to sort it out! With that in mind, we don’t think the business deserve leniency in a score and so, our honest review is 2 stars.

We booked to celebrate my birthday last Sunday at noon. When booking my husband understood we would have a 3 hour slot, on arrival the welcome was "you will need to be out by 2.30" Although some family members were late due to travelling a distance we said we would order food and they would happily slot in on arrival, the delay in service meant it was 2pm before we were able to have our mains/carvery. We didn't feel able to have dessert due to the time and then I was asked if I still wanted my birthday cake! In the end tables were cleared around us as we gathered our things. I haven't given anything a great score mainly due to the total lack of atmosphere. We have celebrated many special birthdays here but have no desire to return. I must say the young staff were all very pleasant but are not in any position to be able to ensure that a larger party is adequately cared for.

Taken for Mothers Day dinner. A very nice roast with plenty of choice of four meats, also available meatless roast for those who prefer not to eat meat. Good selection of deserts. Friendly staff.

Attended today to celebrate a family birthday, the starter’s were lovely no problems. And then we had the carvery. The meat was tough ,the vegetables were hard ,no parsnips! And the Yorkshire pudding was dry. But I think the worst part was the attitude of the old lady serving on the carvery ,very abrupt. If I was just there as 2 of us I would have paid for the starters and left. Won’t be returning

Lovely place we all had the steak pie. My only complaint was the gravy in the pie was very thin and lacking flavour. Please make nice rice gravy to go with the succulent filling

We visited yesterday evening ( Saturday) and arrived just after opening at 18:30pm We were shown to our pre booked table and waiting for our friends to arrive who did so after 10 minutes Service was very patchy across the evening, I would say not enough waiting staff to serve the guests ( even though it was not busy) The young lady serving was on her third shift and did really well, shame the experienced team didn’t Food took ages to be served and when our main meal arrives my wife’s vegetables and potatoes were cold, not good. They were replaced but get it right first time is my moto My burger was raw in so many places - definitely not edible, subsequently taken off the bill We had so many good meals over the years but it seems that the Thornhill Arms needs some TLC and someone to bring it back to life ! I didn’t believe the managers apologies regarding our experience were genuine I couldn’t recommend this experience to anyone Shame as the location is good, the furnishings are spot on , ambiance is nice, but the overall experience was poor for us

What a lovely pub, food was hot and enjoyable. I like the little touches of games you can play and decor inside. It has an easy accessible car park at the back.

Had the Sunday carvery, it was excellent. £14 only, one of the best value around. Meat slices were generous, Yorkshire was fine, and the potatoes and vegetables were tasty. You can add a dessert or starter for £4.50. Recommended that you book. Some parking at pub, but street parking to side and front if car park full.

Food was fine, nothing wrong with the carvery. My issue was with the staff. Firstly the staff member who seemed to be in charge of the carvery was wearing a dirty white ish t shirt with trampy jogging bottoms and dirty trainers and a backwards baseball cap! At least try to be presentable. Secondly the bar staff breaking big bags of ice by throwing them on the floor in front of customers isn't acceptable. And finally the cutlery was dirty, had to ask for new clean cutlery.

I went to the Thornhill Arms last night (14th Feb) with my partner for our Valentines meal. I booked our table using the Open Table website so I wasn't aware that there was a Valentines set menu, which was £45pp (not including drinks). I wasn't really expecting to spend that much on our meal but when I got there and realised what had happened, I just accepted that we were going to have to have this set meal - I didn't mind too much because I had heard such great things about the food there. We got sat by our waitress in a room at the back of the restaurant on our own, which caused quite an awkward atmosphere. We felt like we couldn't talk openly on our date night because the staff could hear every word we were saying. The bar where the staff were working was opposite our table and it was just really awkward. We would have preferred for there to be more people sat around us, which we assumed there would be at 7:30pm on Valentines night! As mentioned, our table was booked for 7:30pm and we ended up leaving at 10pm... This was purely because of how long the food took to get to us! There were 4 courses in total, and there was an unnecessarily large amount of time between each one. By the end, we were so tired and fed up of sitting in the dead quiet room that we didn't even have our last course. The food was okay, nothing exceptional. My partner had the camembert starter, which came with stale bread and cheese that looked shop bought (Aldi/Lidl). He had the steak for his main, which he asked to be cooked medium rare but it came out as well done. He asked for it to be sent back and they gave him a new one, which tasted a lot better. However, because the meal had to be taken back, I was sat there eating my pasta on my own. In the end, my partner was so hungry, I felt like I had to give him the rest of my pasta just so he had something to eat. We had a glass of wine each which bought the total up to £94, but we rounded it up to £100 because there was a lovely waitress. Neither of us felt like our meal was worth £100 and we left the restaurant feeling quite annoyed that we had spent so much money on a meal that we could have definitely made at home. Overall, I was extremely disappointed in the whole experience, and I will not be booking at the Thornhill Arms again.

Booked for 6 for my mother's 80th. Treated so well and the staff so accommodating and welcoming. Food delicious and allowed us to bring our own cake and table decorations. So good to see the place busy with other happy customers too. Waitresses very polite and attentive. We'll definitely be back and definitely be recommending this place to others. It's a gem of a place!

Rude waitress! After a hard day me and partner went for a carvery. We weren't sure of how to order and after we were seated and our drinks order taken, we went to get our food. Once I returned to the table the waitress (older lady with short grey hair and glasses) shouted at me that I hadn't ordered my carvery in front of a room full of people. She then snatched the paper menu off the table and barged past me. I haven't been spoken to so rudely by anyone like that before in my adult life. I was completely humiliated and to make things worse my partner then heard the lady talking negatively about me to other staff. It was completely unnecessary and frankly a quite mean way to (over)react to an honest mistake. I did tell her on our way out but I'm sure it probably fell on deaf ears. The man behind the bar was friendly and apologised to us as he could see I was visibly upset. We were in there a total of 20 minutes and will never go back, and unless they change the way this lady interacts with customers - I don't advise anyone else goes either. Awful end to an already bad day 😞.
