Use this pub quite lot, with varying results, could not believe it when I visited one evening and all TWELVE real ales were unavailable!! Certain members of staff seemed to find this situation amusing, presumably because no beer means no work.

I don't know what is going on with the food here these days. My son and daughter-in-law had the burgers which tasted like a very very poor MaccyD! I had the chicken burger. Like someone had chucked a dry piece of chicken breast between two slices of bun, tomato and a little lettuce. This was meant to be part of the prosecco deal. It was so flat half way through it I left it! It used to be decent food wise at this Wetherspoon. Not anymore. Don't waste your time unless you're just going to have drinks.

🍴 Food: I went in with the usual Spoons expectations, and boy, did The Earl deliver! The food was exactly what I needed - familiar, tasty, and not trying too hard. 💷 Price: My wallet was still smiling after paying the bill. It's the kind of place where you don't need to calculate if you can afford a second drink. 🚻 Facilities: The toilets were surprisingly up to par, and the baby changing facilities? Spotless and reassured me that my kids were in safe hands. 🔄 Service: I accidentally left a hair tie behind, but when I went back, it was waiting for me like a lost friend. The staff here are the unsung heroes of lost-and-found. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family-Friendly: It was an ideal spot for our family lunch. The kids had space to play, and we enjoyed some quality time with friends without the fuss.

Popped in with a couple of friends for a beer. Haven't visited for a very long time, and to be fair, the inside still looks the same old tired decor that has lasted for years. Sat by the window, and people watched. There was a guy by himself with a Mickey mouse hat on drinking. No one took any notice, so assumed he was a regular. Sensible priced ale and that's what attracts people.

Popped into The Earl on our way through Kettering and ordered a couple of breakfasts. They were OK, typical Wetherspoons fodder to be honest. The pub was far from spectacular and average enough to merit a visit. The breakfasts were warm, well cooked and filled a gap. Wether they were good enough to visit again is debatable though. What have they done to the menu. You used to get a decent burger and it included a drink. Those days are long gone. You get a crap “American burger” now and you don’t get a drink included you have to pay extra for that. I ordered two double American cheeseburgers and they turned up without the cheese. On checking the staff took the order down wrong. I had only paid for non cheese variety but as they don’t read back your order you have no way of knowing if they have entered it correctly. What turned up were flat disappointing buns with horrible looking burgers inside that tasted of nothing. They have changed and it’s rubbish quality. I hate to say it but McDonalds would have been better and a cheaper option as they charge £8 plus a burger

We visited the Wetherspoons here at Kettering, and it's an attractive two-floor pub with all the ingredients for being a decent place, but it falls short for me. We walked upstairs, and there were many filthy tables and leftover glasses from the previous customers, which for a pub is to be expected; however, it became clear there were staffing issues. We made our order through the mobile app, which meant we could type in our table number and then choose what we wanted and have the option of either Google or Apple Pay or a card. Once we went through that process, our receipt was automatically emailed to us, which was very convenient. The one criticism I have with the app is that you cannot view your previous orders unless you check your emails, which is frustrating. I decided to have the American cheeseburger with a small portion of chips and a side of scampi with Pepsi Max. We waited about twenty minutes for our food to arrive, and it wasn't until we were finished eating that our drinks finally got served. We could see the staff were very stressed, and it's not their fault because there were a lot of customers here today on Monday, and I could only spot two servers. When the food arrived, the scampi and chips were excellent; however, the burger lacked flavour. It was pretty dry and unpleasant, but because I was out all day, I was hungry; an American burger should be filled to the brim with sauce, and it was barely noticeable. Upstairs, there is the book swap shelf, which I thought was a nice touch, ranging from ancient books to recent bestsellers, offering a wide range to customers. With this being adjacent to the bus station in Kettering, there are many easy ways to reach this pub, with a zebra crossing directly outside.

Most of the time you know what to expect with this chain of pubs, but unfortunately despite having a good location and venue it wasn’t quite up to the same standard as I’m used to. On a Sunday afternoon it wasn’t overly busy, but service at the bar was far slower than justified, with a number of staff more occupied with other tasks than serving the growing number of people. The same also was true with table cleaning, with loads of empty glasses and dirty tables, certainly in the area surrounding the bar. However, get through that and the rest of the experience was fine. Food service was quick with items well presented and hot, the serving staff were really friendly and chatty, plus there was a general good atmosphere around the place. For a casual drink or bite to eat I’d happily return, but with some extra attention it could be a great pub in the town.

This was the second time we visited and it was worse than the first but we thought we’d give it another chance. Skimpy on the portions - except for the huge Yorkshire pudding. The vegetable portion was so small I had to ask for more. The fish cake was ok but I can get the same if not better from a supermarket. No cheese board or any cheese other than cheddar. At Christmas time no cheese and port?? The roast potatoes were chewy and the whole meal was bland. It didn’t cost too much but what’s the hype all about? If this is the best pub in Britain then we’re in a lot of trouble. 🙁 Disappointing Tollemache, very disappointing, we will not return again.

location-iconBarton Hall
British
outdoor_seating_93627takeaway_93627delivery_93627

Not a review of the services provided by Barton Hall but unfortunately feel the need to raise this in the hope it gathers attention. It has come to a point where Barton Hall may as well not have the Tesla super chargers in their car park at this time of year. The amount of non-electric vehicles which are being allowed to park in the Tesla charger spaces is unbelievable. It’s causing chaos in their car park as multiple electric cars are unable to get on chargers and can’t go anywhere because the rest of the car park is full. It’s essentially no different to someone coming in and parking across the front of a petrol station. I can understand that some spaces may need to be used as overflow in peak times, but why not do what every other place does and monitor/limit this to 20 minutes maximum stay only in such spaces for non EV’s? Any electric car parked at 100% would start to be charged overstay fees for not moving out of the space. So why is it fair that stubborn people are getting away with parking petrol cars in these spaces with no comeuppance, just because they’re too lazy to park further out and walk? I’d imagine under their agreement with Tesla, they are bound to keep charging stations accessible for electric vehicles?
