The Swan at Lamport in Daventry

Visited last night with friends on 8/11/24. Food was lovely. Cooked perfectly, great flavours . My husbands steak frite was one of the best steaks he has had for a long time. 100% recommend.

Every few weeks the family meet up for Sunday lunch. The Swan is one of our favourites. As we were a large group we were asked to pre-order. The menu didn't include our favourite Roast lamb but after a phone call chef was happy to provide it for us. Staff are always polite and helpful. The food is always delicious! Our only negative would be that a 15% service charge is automatically added to the bill. We prefer to leave a separate cash gift. However, they will produce a bill with it removed if asked. Huge thank you to the team and we will see you again inbthe near future!

We were a party of 7 & visited for Sunday lunch on the 13th Oct. We received a very warm welcome from Evie, who looked after us incredibly well. From assisting with my husband's wheelchair to instigating a birthday celebration for one of our party, which was so very much appreciated. We all enjoyed our meals, which were delicious and the service was very efficient & friendly. I would give 5 stars for everything & we will definitely return & a very special 'thank you' to Evie.

Lovely meal - very friendly, attentive staff - a lovely ambient atmosphere and really lovely food. We aren’t local but would definitely go again if we were in the area and highly recommend it. Thanks all.

We had our wedding at the Lamport Swan in July and we could not have been happier. Will, the General Manager, was excellent from the first moment we met him, around 10 months ago, and he delivered us our perfect wedding. Nothing was too much trouble, meeting with us many times, and he was great at helping us to construct our special day. The day itself was incredible and the whole team at Lamport Swan looked after us and our guest so well throughout the day and night. The food was all excellent too, with the carefully constructed menu executed brilliantly. Thank you Will and the whole Lamport Swan team for making our day so special.

We've just had lunch at this lovely country pub. I couldn't fault the food or the service. I had the mackerel starter which was exemplary. Lots of additional touches such as the fried bread and pate. All the food was delicious and very well presented. The staff were all very welcoming and I can't wait to go again.

Previously visited Swan at Lamport summer 2022. Then I thought our meal was above average, gastro pub standard. We are not often in this area so today was our first chance to return. It was not nearly as good as in 2022. I had the same main course so I was able to make a direct comparison. The restaurant was empty so maybe others have already voted with their feet. For the price I think I had the right to expect much better. I am unlikely to return.

We came to celebrate a birthday with a roast lunch. The food was very delicious and beautifully presented. It felt like we were very spoiled. Pudding arrived with a lit birthday candle. Service was quick and staff were friendly and polite. The restaurant was clean and spacious and very cool in the heat of the day. We will definitely be returning!

Despite the varying Trip Advisor reviews we decided to call in for lunch after visiting Lamport Hall. We sat in the bar area which was comfy. Outside was particularly lovely with great views and plenty of tables-would be fab on a sunny day. We received a warm welcome from the friendly barman. We had a surf n turf sharing platter (£22) and the nachos with tequila cheese dip (£5). Portions were large and we absolutely loved the nachos and the honey mustard sausages. The Platter fish was excellent, very fresh and tasty. Unfortunately the Cajun chicken skewers were poor, they tasted of nothing and the garlic bread was doughy. It’s a shame because the rest of the food was really good. It seems a bit hit and miss depending on your choice of food so choose wisely. If everything was as good as those little heavenly sausage chunks the’d be onto a real winner! We thought it good value for a freshly cooked lunch.

Disappointing. Overcooked food. Cold plates and outragously over priced wine. Needs someone to bring this beautiful pub back to basics and bring the trade back in. Staff were extra special.

Rui was absolutely amazing, top notch service, he definitely made the meal for us. He was so happy and even walked across the garden to top up our friends Prosecco, talk about going above and beyond! Will be returning, hope he is serving us when we do! Thanks again.

Such a warm and inviting reception, showed to our table and informed who would be serving us, was honestly such a lovely evening!! The ambience is beautiful, twinkly lights everywhere, our party was a couple with our in-laws and our 11 year old son, we were treated wonderfully. The food was second to none and we would certainly be back again very soon. At times like these when money is tight, you feel like it's money well spent when you get impeccable service and treated so well, it's what going to a restaurant should be like, but on many occasions isn’t, keep doing what your doing folks, 10/10.

Just arrived home from an excellent lunch meet up with ten friends at the Swan in Lamport Northamptonshire. Great food good service but most importantly the staff were brilliant. They were attentive helpful and seemed happy in their work. Well done guys great experience. Will deffo go again.

I booked a table for 17 members of the Dene Valley U3A History Group. This was for lunch after a visit to Lamport Hall. Due to the size of our group we needed to pre-order and this is normal wherever we have lunch. The choice was excellent with a wide variety of meals chosen, from a simple sandwich to 3 courses for a couple of people. Everyone at the Swan was very helpful before we went eg Amber couldnt have been more helpful. On the day both Will and Ruy, our main hosts were professional and attentive. Food was excellent and took little time to arrive. No hassle with all our members paying separately The interior was clean and stylish, pictures on their website dont do it justice

we booked as a party of 14. we pre ordered which made things nice and easy upon arrival. we were served by Rui and Dee who were both lovely and a credit to the pub. everyone enjoyed their meals and there were no complaints only full tummy’s!

Extremely nice staff, but unfortunately the food is over priced and very poorly cooked and presented. The sticky beef noodles arrived in one hard lump of cold unseasoned noodles and very little sticky beef. The chicken skewer dish had no skewers and was presented more like chicken nuggets. The fish and chips were ok but the curry sauce was poor and the mushy peas didn’t even taste like peas, not sure how you do that. I did complain but sorry is not enough, when you have wasted time and money on a poor experience.

Staff member was friendly upon arrival however the food was completely without any flavour. I had a pulled jackfruit burger which was just deep fried nastiness, no taste at all, just grease. Husband had jerk chicken with rice and peas, chicken had no spice to it. It was more like a barbecue sauce had been dribbled over it and the rice and peas had no seasoning either. It tasted like boiled rice with garden peas thrown in. It wasn’t exactly a cheap lunch. Very disappointing

My wife and I went for a Sunday lunch. I have to say, service staff were excellent. Very friendly and helpful. The food however was a let down. We had a roast dinner and without doubt it’s the worst I’ve ever had in my! Huge, hard vegetables, roast potatoes that were inedible. Nothing was very hot either except for the cauliflower cheese that was scalding hot in comparison as it must have came straight out of the microwave. We didn’t complain as the service staff were so nice but the food was the worst meal I’ve ever paid for.

We had booked a table for a very large group of 22 people. The service beforehand and during the lunch was superb. Orders were taken in advance and all our food turned up at the same time. It was wonderful and everyone was delighted by what they'd chosen. We were all so impressed by the team who worked hard to make this a very special occasion. I cannot recommend the place and the team enough. Thank you.

First time here with my wife. We was meet with a warm welcome The was not a massive choice on menu. But there was a good variety to choose from. The Aberdeen Angus stake was amazing cooked .well everything fing we had was cooked reay well. We thought we would be pushing our luck to get a late lunch on Mother's Day, but the staff at The Swan couldn't have been more accommodating! Very friendly and efficient. And our roast dinners were excellent when they arrived! Would very much recommend a visit!!!!

Poor service, rude waitress which we can name but for privacy’s sake we won’t until contacted by customer support. No buns for burgers, a few other items unavailable. no drinks menu apart from a wine list. Sunday dinner and the beef tasted awful, chewy and like it was a couple days old. pan “seared” seabass wasn’t seared it looked steamed, no crisp to the skin at all. Massively disappointed. Been here before a long time ago and it was great. Now it’s below average for the price.

Went here with friends as a surprise for my husband. Due to the size of the party had to pre order the meal. Even though this was done in plenty of time two meals were missed off. The food that did arrive was only lukewarm. The missing meals did turn up and were taken off the bill, so thank you for that, but it meant that most of us had finished by the time they arrived. We asked for desserts, specifically about the crumble and this was not as described, so again a disappointment. Won’t be going back.

Lovely meal at lunchtime at this pub, excellent service, so friendly, customer service at its best. Although they were busy, the waiter explained that there would be a wait, which was acceptable and we were not disappointed.

We were very disappointed with the meal here. We expected high quality food but the beef in the pie was chewy and overcooked and the dessert was small and over priced. Wouldn't return or recommend.

Have been using this place for 9 years, and never had a bad pint. Staff are always very friendly and accommodating. A lovely place to dine with exceptional food and equally lovely to come for just a drink. It's dog friendly and has an amazing garden for the brighter days with what I can only describe as a view the gods should be proud of over the fields. What more could anyone ask for....... Hats off to all the staff and management that keep the place as good as it is.

We went for Christmas Lunch, which promised to be amazing! (From the menu at least). The food in the most part was good. Service was poor, very slow an inexperienced staff, we guess that is due to lack of staff wanting to work on Christmas day. We paid £100 per head for the meal, there were four of us. When we came to pay the bill we were slapped with a £40 service charge! This was never mentioned previously and at least was expected and at worst greedy. We always tip for good food and service, but this was expected. It has left a very sour taste for all of us. I emailed them, but never received any response. We will certainly not visit again.

The staff did their best, and the location is gorgeous of course. But you can 100% tell this has changed hands and is now part of a pub company. Generic menu, badly cooked food (bland, over cooked). What a huge shame. Sadly this will no longer be my go to for a 'fancy lunch out'.

The meal we ate at The Swan was tasty and well cooked. The staff were freindly and gave efficient service. The pub itself is a lovely old building in the local iron-rich limestone and there is a pleasant outdoor eating area and garden.The menu is varied and interesting, although there is no real provision for lunches or snack meals.There's just one bitter/ale available, which is a bit disappointing but, admittedly, it was a good pint.To get 4 or 5 stars instead of three stars from me, The Swan could either provide outstanding (rather than just good) food or reduce their prices to reflect the standard and portion sizes of the existing meals (I would expect to pay around 3 pounds less for most of the dishes).They might also think about making the portions slightly more generous and offering lunch options.

I went there today for Sunday lunch I ordered nut roast. It was unbelievable. It came on half a raw aubergine It was not a nut roast. It was just quorn with a sauce. No nuts at all. It was supposed to be served with Yorkshire which was missed off At £14.95. It was a joke I told the waitress I was vegetarian. Do they know the difference between vegetarians and vegans.

So today we 3 went for Sunday lunch. Been here before and have received a nice warm greeting, but not today. Today’s experience was disappointing. We arrived a tad early but we’re assured our table was ready, so we took our drinks from the bar ( only one server with plenty of customers waiting to order) to the restaurant and we’re given our menu cards ( my menu had free food stain samples, bit poor!)We ordered 2 Sunday dinners with extra trimmings & 1 Steak Rib-Eye meal. We then waited …and waited… probably over half hour until our food arrived. Both Sunday dinners cold & returned by the waitress who entered the kitchen stating ( in my opinion sarcastically) “Apparently these 2 are cold”. I overheard because I was visiting the nearby bathroom. So, one of us eating a hot steak dinner, 2 of us left waiting again , not great!When the Sunday dinners came out 2nd time the waitress stood over the table until we all agreed the food was warm enough, bit awkward!Other waitress carried the gravy boat by the spout? Bit odd!In all, food was average & steak overpriced @ £26.Desserts were quite small portions & we were served with a dirty spoon, so we asked for another spoon & the dirty spoon wasn’t taken away. Bit poor!I have to mention one lady staff that started working later in the afternoon, I think maybe supervisor or similar. She seems more engaging and professional. Maybe the other staff should shadow her & learn manners & better customer service. I should have written this review several months ago. I can only apologise. Back in November we held an afternoon wake here after my husbands funeral. Nicolle and her team were wonderful. So many people complimented my family on our choice of venue. It was a superb buffet and they catered for over 40. The food kept coming. Gluten free food was provided with no hassle for 2 guests and clearly labelled. There was no charge for the room just so much per head plus free and unlimited tea and coffee.The staff were professional and unobtrusive. We could not have chosen a better venue. A very belated thank you to the whole team

Despite having driven past The Swan countless times over the years, I'd never set foot inside until recently. I now wish I'd visited much soonerSunday lunch was delicious, and the children's portions were almost as large as the adults'. Apart from having to ask for a larger plate for my grandson (children's portions are served on a very small plate despite the portion size) my only minor gripe was that the food could have been a little hotter. Between six of us we had soup, pork, lamb,beef and nut roast and all the meats were perfectly cooked and very tender and were served with plenty of vegetables. A request for more gravy was met with a smile and two jugs appeared very quicklyThe ice cream my grandson had for dessert was superb (yes, I did steal a spoonful!) Will definitely be back

Went in after visiting the Lamport hall. The food was really nice, service was good as well. Cosy pub, would definitely go back.

I rang ahead of time and asked about the lichens GF preparation process and was assured that they have separate prep areas and thoroughly clean utensils etc, so I was confident I would be safe eating here, which I was.As you can see on the restaurants menu, which can be downloaded from their website, there is a variety of GF and GFA dishes on their menu, more so in their main menu than their starters and nibbles. I opted for a cajun chicken burger. As they served, they specified that it was GF, so i didn't feel worried or feel that I had to double check myself. I was given 2 small burgers as opposed to one large one, which I assume was due to the size of the GF buns.The meal was delicious and you wouldn't be able to tell it was GF, especially the bun, which I was pleasantly surprised with (as any GF person will attest, it is hard to find decent bread!)The service was friendly and the atmosphere and ambience was relaxed. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon outing.It would be a 5 star review, however two of my family said their desserts of the cheesecake was just ok, and the strudel was a bit soggy. However, my other two family members who opted for ice cream though the flavours were lovely (but they were only listed as V on the menu, so I don't think they were GF). I wish I'd had enough room for a dessert, but the main was just too filling!I would definitely visit again.

My son and I stopped on our way to Northampton and were welcomed by two very friendly waitresses. We ordered the sharing nachos and enjoyed the taste and texture. A good start. Next banger and mash, with wrapped green beans and gravy. Unfortunately the chef had run out of green beans so dumped some unwrapped broccoli on the mash instead. No warning, no apology. I hate broccoli and the sight of it put me off the sausages and VERY lumpy mash, so one meal wasted. I mentioned the problem to the waitress who checked and told me ‘that’s all the chef has’, no alternative meal, no replacement. BUT the horror of horrors was the red berry crumble. Alternatively known as a tub of red slop. Hardly any crumble and the red berries were so sour that I had to go to the gents to spit it out. Had they run out of sugar? They need a new chef and better reaction to unhappy customers. I paid £72 for a meal for two and would rather have gone to Burger King. Nobody cares that customers will never return, which is very bad management.

My parents paid £89 a head for our party of 5 . The soup was not edible , watery like out of a box . Suppose to be butternut squash soup . The Turkey was old and dried out. Stuffing was hard . Mum was served whisky in a water tumbler with a chip and was told the chip has been there a long time so the glass wouldn’t be in her whisky . Asked for new glass and whisky . Told that was the last shot of that whisky . No Christmas atmosphere . Have eaten here many times in the past . Was so very disappointing and felt bad for my parents as they booked this as a special treat as we live abroad . Will not be coming back .

Best Christmas Dinner ever. Service was fantastic, food was delicious and helpings very generous. Recommend the Swan at Lamport without any hesitation. Superb place.

Very poor quality food. Many previous visits but sadly the food has deteriorated badly. It would appear if you ordered burger and chips you were ok but our food was a disgrace. We told the very polite waitress who spoke to the manager and no charge was made for the main course. We ordered dessert !!!! My red fruit crumble was a mushy mess....it shouldn't have been sent from the kitchen....let's face it crumble isn't hard to make and at £6.95 I expect something that resemble crumble not a small dish of baby food....I didnt complain to the waitress as we felt so sorry for this pleasant waitress. No return visits for us. Too expensive for very poor food.

A disappointed visit - with the pork belly an uncooked wad of fat which was returned without argument and a risotto ordered and eaten instead. Which was ok. Staff very understanding and the fireplace helped save the night from total disaster on a cold winters eve.

Came in for a bit of food with my sister and it was warm and welcoming from the minute we walked in :) will definitely visit again 😀

From the beginning, we were looked after so well by the staff. We had The Snug to ourselves which helped create a personal, sociable atmosphere. The food was excellent and there was such a lot of it! In all, we had a fabulous time and everyone was happy!

Positives The staff were all so friendly and helpful and the venue itself is lovely with a chilled but classy atmosphere. Negatives - terrible food The roast dinner served cold meat I mean STONE cold and the rest of the plate consisted of / carrots some half cooked cabbage and 2 roast potatoes and a massive d Yorkshire pudding that covered up the lack of everything else. We ordered a side of pigs in blankets and if wasn’t cooked it looked pale and inside was still pink - we sent it back and they made another one that was cooked but it put me off completely.Also hubby ordered trio of meat and the lamb was shredded totally random for a roast? We rarely go out as a family as we have our little girl so we was utterly dissatisfied and £55 poorer.

May be the current issues with logistics, location lovely, atmosphere ok, but foods was lukewarm and partly inedible. Frozen vegetables? Dark brown crusty sirloin beef - hard to chew? Nibbles poor.

As it was a bank holiday booked a table outside expecting it to be busy.Arrived on time and sat outside.. outdoor furniture was not inviting .hard wooden seating and no cushions.At 2.15 a waitress.arrived to take the drinks order and we stated we were ready to order..the waitress stated they were really busy and there was a queue for ordering food..she could give no information on how long it would be before we were able to order..or how long the food would be ready after ordering.It wasn't so busy that another waitress stood chatting to a table of people she obviously knew for over 10 minutes.Certainly won't be returning or recommending.
