The Swan in Northumberland

Very warm welcome and friendly service with a bit of banter. Perfect. Pub decorated nicely for Halloween and a good selection of beers as well as a decent cider 🌞 (Can’t always get a nice cider so this was greatly appreciated!) We booked a table for dinner and were allowed to stay in our campervan overnight in their car park. The food was delicious and our server (Sam) was very attentive and friendly. We then stayed for the regular Monday night quiz. We were terrible at it (ha ha!) but it was really good fun with plenty of local banter going on. Would highly recommend!

The Swan is a lovely place for Sunday Lunch, very warm welcome form friendly staff, especially our servers Ryan and Callum. Generous portions and Roast Beef was very very good, as were the starters and desserts. Will definitely be back.

Popped in for Sunday lunch prior to pumpkin picking! Staff were friendly and welcoming, especially our sever Ryan! I opted for the trio of meats and it did not disappoint even though I was stuffed I still managed a crumble and custard which was so nice! Will definitely be back.

Staff Kim and Janet were brilliant.... Surroundings were lovely ... the food was ok, sea bass great but lasagne i thought was overcooked, starters calameri was bland and tastless, duck pizza tasty but again slightly overcooked.... however, overall i enjoyed my visit and would return no problem.

Service was amazing, beer was lovely, food well presented but lacked in flavour and chips weren’t very crispy. Overall very lovely experience in a lovely location though. View outside is gorgeous :)

We often visit this lovely family pub and the service and food is always great but today was exceptionally. Our server was Ryan and he made the whole experience just the best. He was knowledgeable and wanted to help, went above and beyond all with a smile on his face and was great with my grandson. Asset to the already lovely pub. Thank you Ryan

Popped in for Lunch with my family, from a welcoming smile, through to great food and super service all the staff went out of their way to make our dining experience superb, Janet has a lovely personality and made us all smile. The mini sweets with coffee are great folding a large main course, good for the wallet too.

Just had an absolutely beautiful meal & a few drinks. Staff are really lovely & food was piping hot. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back.

Helen and I have visited the swan on numerous occasions. And it comes highly recommended.

Lovely setting that sells a good shandy but then there’s the food….the main reason the majority of us go out on a Sunday afternoon. The menu itself sounds great but what you get is far from it. Menus are sold to you by the amazing descriptions that always disappoint. Trio of meat, there was beef, turkey and pork belly but it was the smallest portion accompanied by impossible to eat pork cracking that just tasted of fat, mushy broccoli, roast potatoes that were chewy, over cooked burnt carrots and over salted gravy. The waitress when taking our plates away asked if I wanted to speak to the manager, I declined. It is what it is and money off which we weren’t looking for would not alter the experience. We foolishly chose dessert. Banoffee choux bun with caramelised banana and ice cream. Purely squirting caramel sauce on a banana does not mean they are caramelised and I may as well have gone to the corner shop for a packet of foam banana sweets as the cream inside the choux was illuminous yellow with a repugnant artificial taste. This was my food, it would be a way longer review if I also mentioned my partners choice from the menu. Lost our custom as it’s an expensive £80 to be let down.

We booked a table here for 6 people on Saturday night, and we absolutely loved it. The food was excellent, the beer was lovely, and the staff were so friendly, accommodating, and welcoming. The service was superb & they even have a separate dining area for people with dogs which we thought was brilliant. The views from the beer garden are superb & there's even a small covered outdoor area with heaters. We will definitely be coming back!

Nice restaurant with good food, good service and ambiance. A little on the expensive side with also smaller than expected portions but the food was amazing and overall really worth it.

What a fabulous wee village pub with the most amazing views from a lovely beer garden ! We held our daughters baby shower here on Saturday 7 th September,accommodating approx 26 people , the staff could not help us enough , the buffet selection choosen with help from janet the manageress was so lovely great quality and with plenty to go around without ripping out our eyeballs ! The pub itself was spotless clean with accomodating helpful staff Honestly they could not do enough for us and made my daughters day extra special We can not thank you all enough from the bottom of out hearts The Margerison Family xx

Slightly over priced for food sizes. Eton mess was basically a plate of cream with a couple of white chocolate buttons and a couple pieces of meringue and mango mixed in.

We had lunch here with friends midweek, After looking at the good reviews we were very disappointed in our food, all of us had some complaint with different meals, my husband was so disappointed with his so called chicken and vegetable Penang curry, reluctantly he did return the meal as the chicken was dried out and tough and the timbale of rice was a solid clump. Without quibble from the waitress, He decided on the fish and chips as a safe bet, but even this was over cooked.

Great place for a pint- very welcoming staff that proved immensely helpful un sorting a taxi and lovely, comfortable decor Didn't order any food, but menu looked lovely.

Am afraid have to give all the staff at the Swan a 10 out of 10. Can't wait to go back soon. Lol. Attentive staff. Just right. My pork crackling dinner the best I've had. Thank you all again for a lush dinner.

This pub is a great spot with a nice view, friendly staff (Kim was especially welcoming), and tasty food. It’s a comfortable place to relax and enjoy a meal with good service. Staff were very thorough and careful with an allergy in our party which is great to see. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

We had our wedding reception here. The room was beautiful the staff allowed me to come in the night before hand to set up the room, they also helped me to set up and adjusted all the tables. The service on the day was outstanding we had drinks on arrival and where severed our food within an hour of arriving. The food was amazing steak was cooked to perfection and dessert was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. The staff where brilliant and did everything they could to make the day special. I highly recommend The Swan. Lovely place amazing food.

Part of the Vintage Group and this is the second time that they have not accepted my loyalty rewards. 1st time a free dessert was not honoured and the second time a free complimentary drink. Do not see the point of the Loyalty rewards scheme if they are not being honoured. Don't think that we will be returning in the future. Not one for 3rd time lucky !

The atmosphere is amazing and the cold drinks saved me after a long hot day on the Hadrian's Wall path. I lost my phone on the Wall and ran back to the Swan. Kim and Janet went out of their way to help me get in touch with my wife back in the States. The regular customers in the pub drove me out to find my phone (miles away). It was due to their kindness that we found the phone, I got to buy pints for the guys in the pub, and enjoy a could cold drinks myself. I will always have great memories of my afternoon at the Swan!

Popped in whilst passing nearby on the way to Newcastle, service was quick, food was good and hot, staff were pleasant and jolly … just what we needed ..

We visited Wed 3rd July at 7pm and the service from the staff especially the young Newcastle support who was excellent. Enjoyed our meals. Great lace to visit and eat. Definitely recommended.

Really lovely place to eat. Very friendly staff, lovely food and they let us stay overnight in our motorhome in the car park. Highly recommend.

A lovely pub good atmosphere, very good and varied menu. Food was well prepared and presented. Sam the “waiter” was very friendly and helpful especially regarding the menu choice. Worth a ride out.

Pretty empty at 8pm. Only a few people eating so very little atmosphere. Pleasant staff but food was a big let down. Burger was very average and small portions. Hunters chicken inedible being dry and tough with very little sauce...felt like food all came straight out of the freezer. My particular hate are frozen chips.....can no one actually cook fresh chios anymore?

Stopped in for lunch at the end of my Hadrian’s Wall walk. Steak sandwich was delicious and the service was speedy and friendly. Great village pub

Went here for a meal on Monday night, was greated by Janet with a smile who is always welcoming, then was sat at a table with an amazing view! Chloe served us and she was professional and attentive. I had the lamb and it was cooked perfectly. I can't recommend this place enough, delicious food and great service.

For myself and my wife we both thought that everything was of the highest standard. I doubt very much that could be improved on at all. The staff were very good in all aspects and nothing was a bother. We would also like to give all of the kitchen staff a mention as well, the meals that we had were amazing and of the highest standard.

A great place to have a drink or why not have dinner. The food is of exceptional quality. The seating is mixed from leather sofa's to captain chair's. All round Joly nice place.

Not been here for a while but visited for lunch today. A beautifully presented country pub with. A comprehensive traditional menu on offer and also daily specials. I was spoilt for choice so asked Kim and Janet they both recommended the Lasagne so that's what I had...I wasn't disappointed!! I also had a prawn and chorizo starter which was very good, washed down with a very nice pint of neck oil. A very nice warm welcoming friendly atmosphere with beautiful views across the Tyne Valley from the outside seating area. I've been here before a while ago will definitely go back as I could have eaten anything on the menu. Highly recommended and well worth a visit. There were 3 of us and a toddler we all had starters and mains which came in just under £90 which I thought was reasonable for food and drinks of very high quality.

What a really great place this is! Callum and the staff were lovely, friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, the chicken liver parfait, arancini, signature burger and smoked haddock fish cakes we had were delicious. We had fantastic local ales and wine with our meal. With all that it was still very, very reasonably priced! We’ll definitely be back with friends and family.

Food & Drink were reasonably priced and very good, attentive, pleasant and professional team, well looked after. Great beer garden, fantastic views, highly recommended, great stop for the Hadrian's wall trail, as just a few yards off of the trail. Great pictures of the evening mist rising up from the valley.

Excellent service and really tasty food. We had the set lunch menu and it hit the spot. The calamari was crispy and well seasoned, and the lasagne rich and warming. Modest ale choice of Wainwright or Black Sheep.

Took a party of 10 here last night. Food was really lovely, and everything arrived together, beautifully cooked and presented. Staff are cracking, Dan and Kai looked after us all well, and we had a great night. Half the party were visiting from Canada and I was proud to show off our local and its amazing views! Thank you 😊

Very nice restaurant! We arrived before 12:00 but we were invited in when we looked through the door and got a guided tour through the restaurant, followed by some high quality coffee.

Just another Vintage Inn. Food was tasty, gravy especially, but service was appalling. Parsnip was huge so, of course, uncooked in the middle. Waitress really could not be bothered and there were only a handful of people in. Gravy was plonked down on the table on the opposite side to the person who had asked for it. Do these staff want a tip? Beautiful view outside so I'd go back for a drink on a nice day but no more food. It's not exactly cheap, although they do various offers. I'd rather go to an independent that tries harder.

this pub was very welcoming when we arrived to have dinner with family from Australia. The two waiters Kai and Ollie were very good and patient with us, as there were 7 of us to feed. Would recommend going to experience the lovely views over the valley.

Visited as passing through on Hadrian's wall walk. No sunday roast left, but only us and another table dinning at that time. Food arrived,very dry, lacked taste, not as advertised Very very disappointed

Lovely place in a fantastic location . Welcomed and taken to our table quickly. Initial service ( drinks ) was a bit sluggish but after that service was excellent and friendly . Food was very good and an lovely meal was had with great friends .

I had a steak and kidney pie at this wonderful old country pub and it was one of the best I have ever had. Excellent steak and gravy with a puff pastry. Served with a lot of vegetables and a great IPA beer. The servers were JANET and Kim and they were both terrific. JANET was helpful with all sorts of information about the area, introduced us to some of the locals, and everybody included us in conversations, and we’re so friendly yet was like we belonged in a minute. Excellent pub, excellent food, wonderful atmosphere.

Just excellent. Nice place, quiet, good food, nicely served. Dog friendly. All that is best in a country pub. We went after visiting the garden centre, and it made for a very enjoyable day out.

Just finished the first leg of the Hadrians Wall Path (E to W) and this was the perfect spot for a pint and lunch!
