The Old Bakehouse in Northumberland

Oh this beautiful café is a real find, tucked away of the main drag, in a cute side street that goes on towards the Stepping Stones across the Wansbeck. We were given a really warm welcome and had our suitcases as we'd just arrived from Birmingham and our apartment wasn't ready. They were really lovely and accommodating. OMLETTES are on the menu !!!!💕🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕 🥚 🪺 And they serve them all day !!! Mine was a double cheese and mushroom omlette and it was delicious. The Man had the Steak Pie and omg that isn't a pie, it's sensational - the meat is plentiful, melt in the mouth and the gravy is delicious, this is home cooked food like your grandma used to make, it's REAL, traditional food and tastes really good because it's high quality food! We had a trifle and a cheesecake for dessert, both were gorgeous and what we really loved, they were not full of sugar, like modern desserts are, these were just right. If you're sick of slick modern try-to-hard cafes, come here for some real soul, warm hearted banter and decent food 💕💗💕🌷🌼

Old fashioned cafe selling home cooked food, nothing fancy. Coffee was ok, nice sandwiches. Not expensive but, cash only. Very good friendly service. Obviously a number of regulars, older people mainly.

Please don't say you are dog friendly when you are not! Dog friendly means we can sit in and not just outside.

Been coming here since I was young when it was under other management the owners have always been polite and friendly I go here because it is warm and welcoming food quality is top hence it has a brilliant clientele and is always full to capacity I think this fact speaks for itself

AVOID this place, First time i called in for a cuppa and food a week ago and only posting it now as I partner already did but feel the need to let people know again as I wouldn't want others experiencing this.. I asked before 3 to waitress any chance I can have a takeout and she said yes so I assumed I had time to order it but then after 3 was told food is off now, why wasn't I told this before? then after an awkward moment waitress spoke to the kitchen and they agreed to plate up mince and dumplings but as I was leaving they said sprinkle water on it and put in oven for few mins, so I took the food home opened it and realised the dumpling was just the mixture and rolled into a dumpling but not cooked was all sticky dumpling mix!! this is shocking for paying £13.50 these high stars from people are probably from staff there and there friends BEWARE

My partner visited with a friend today. Was told takeaway was available when he asked at 2:40pm, but then at 3pm was advised food was off when he asked for mince and dumplings, they should of advised food was only served till 3pm when he asked. They went ahead and made it after a carry on with the kitchen about making it. He arrived home with it the portion size was small and food was on paper plates not suitable for hot meal should of been in suitable takeout containers. The dumplings were not cooked they were raw and gooey. I am appauled and disgusted that someone would sell food looking like this to customer! Around £14 for 2 people not worth the money.

I have visited four times and food always tasty and hot. Staff friendly and quick service. Huge dumplings all homemade. My friends had the pie. Said it was delicious.

Called in on the off chance we'd get a table and so glad we did. I went for the 2 meats beef and pork dinner which was the best dinner I've had for a very long time and the Mrs had the Turkey dinner and she wasn't disappointed. My only gripe was the Yorkshire pudding as if they made there own it would be a real winner. I'd definitely go back for this.

Take cash!! We were gutted we couldn’t visit here due to being cash only. Fully respect their decision around this but it caught us out being so reliant on Apple Pay. Sure we’ll be back up to visit as menu and food looked brilliant.

Local cafe that serves top quality British food. Served by fast paced attentive staff with great attitudes and service. This hidden gem gets busy and only takes cash not card which is a lovely tradition. My children enjoyed their desserts and wanted to tip the staff a little for their hard work.

Nice place but slow service, poached eggs were over cooked but breakfasts were generally ok.

Sandwich was awful cheap small sliced brown bread hardly any filling waitress was lovely though but wouldn't go back

Had full English breakfast here this morning, absolutely spot on! Thoroughly enjoyed it, came with tea, toast and marmalade, and worth far more than they charge. Cannot recommend enough, many thanks x

Had a delicious breakfast and coffee at the old bakehouse, the breakfast was large and very well cooked, coffee was very nice.

The hot pork and gravy sandwich was lovely, but the ginger sponge and custard was my favourite

Absolutely outstanding food, if it was awarded Mitchellin Stars, it would get 6. Just like your nans home cooking without the ridiculous prices. Very popular but seats inside become available very quickly. Outside seating for the good weather. Staff are brilliant. Just behind the main street under the arch. Well worth the trip to Morpeth.

Excellent choice of meals to snacks, first class friendly service, food is well presented and very tasty, Trifle is amazing. All very reasonably priced. Highly recommend a visit, we will be back for more.

Motorists if your Nth/Sth on A1 pop into this Cafe . I found by accident going A1 north , after driving 4 hour decided to park up , grab a bite to eat . I had Lambs liver , bacon , onions , big separate bowl of FRESH veg n mash potatoes, with big pot of tea . The meals are like the old truckers cafe meals , not the namby pamby baby food rubbish served in Soppy cafe types . I received the bill very good value , would be 50% more elsewhere. And the best bit was Cash only . Cash only . On my return South in 5 days , I shall be popping in for Lunch again . Thank you Staff .

They do wonderful old fashioned lunches: roasts and liver with veg and proper puddings at very reasonable prices. Friendly efficient service. It's been busy when I have visited. Not particularly vegetarian friendly.

I love this place l ordered mince and dumplings mashed potatoes and all the veg it was brilliant l really enjoyed the meal l had ice cream afterwards which was nice.

What a brilliant find this was, as we don't go to Morpeth often! Proper home cooked food at a decent price and an alcohol license too. Lovely staff, and very popular as there was a queue when we left.

have been going here as a family for our Sunday dinner for a few years now, Always good food and value, but I was sorry to hear on my last visit that the bakehouse is up for sale with Mike Rogerson, Just hope whoever buys it keeps up the same standards, well worth a visit.

Great atmosphere, superb food, great price. Outstanding restaurant. 5 star staff, who give you a great welcome, and work hard, to please their customers. You will go far and wide, to find any restaurant, that will come up to, The Old Bakehouse.

Pet friendly outside doesn't count as pet friendly especially when is cold and raining outside 😂 food OK however no other milk alternative so couldn't have coffee and they only take cash which is a super inconvenient.

Great cafe. Homemade food very tasty. This is my go to place for lunch in Morpeth.

The classic main meals were perfectly prepared, well priced and delicious! and because the chef was on the premises they were able to answer ingredients-questions more broadly than just the 14 key allergens. The portions we had were *very* generous... (possibly, as it was late afternoon, they gave us extra knowing there would be no customers after us). Open 9-4 seven days, the Old Bakehouse is tucked away through one of the old carriage-arches off the main street. This made its outdoor seating quiet, sunny and free from passing traffic. We plan to return to check out more of the menu either for a breakfast (served to 11.30) or main (varying daily, the pies or salmon Wellington looked so tempting). Or maybe a lighter panini to save room for apple pie/ scone/ trifle or lemon meringue pie! They made me happy by stocking decaff tea & the team were alert friendly and attentive. A perfect experience all round, wrapped up by crossing the lane for a zen moment in the community garden opposite. They are a CASH ONLY business with ATMs fairly close.

Took my husband who's a big breakfast fan there. He absolutely loves it. Price is reasonable as well.

The staff are very friendly and inviting if you have dogs. Even to the point of a treat for them too. The food was lovely for us. Lemon Meringue pie light and delish. We sat outside and the area was so relaxing. Been many times and will keep going.

Busy place we only waited 5 mins though as other diners were ready to leave. An excellent experience, quick service we had a delicious lunch and purchased sweets to bring home as they looked too nice not to. Lovely friendly staff.
