Booked Sunday lunch for two. Lovely looking grade 2 listed barn and outbuildings. Conversion done really well. We sat in the dining area bit warmer than main bar area. Had the trio of meats included veg £19. Was lovely and enough on the plate. Some meat hidden under the turkey in the picture. Lemon pie was delicious and the same for the apple and blackberry crumble. Really pleasantly surprised how nice it was. Plenty of outdoor seating for the warmer weather. Good food reasonable prices. Will definitely return ...

Our waitress honey domone was amazing so kind and helpful and welcoming. Made it a special evening. They are very lucky to have her.

Went last night. 4 meals ok 5th meal ( Gammon , egg and chips) not good Gammon hard could not cut chips cold. Hopefully a one off. Service very good.

We like eating in the bar area it has more atmosphere.

Fairly quiet but we were seated by the disabled toilets, particularly chilly area. Waitress was not particularly engaging, no water offered and food not great for the price!

Was given a complimentary celebration drink on arrival as it was our anniversary. Starters was lovely, came very quickly, main meal was nice but just luke warm. Pudding was lovely.

It was for my 80th birthday there was 13 of us,we all had a great time the food was lovely and the staff fantastic everything went like clockwork we could not be happier.

Very poor Sunday roast, arrived and it was busy which Norma means it's good... Sat and ordered drinks, starters arrived before our drinks. Starters were OK. Both had roast, I had a mixed meat with extra pigs in blankets, stuffing and cauliflower cheese... the meat was OK at best, nothing amazing, not a lot of it. Carrots OK, parsnips OK. The rest was awful. The pigs in blankets were raw, the cauliflower cheese was the worst I've even seen, basically half a cauliflower which was hard as nails as hadn't been cooked covered in cheese. Stuffing was just as bad, undercooked and stodgy. A note for the chef... cut the cauliflower into edible sizes, boil for 10 min until soft, make a good cheese sauce, half a litre of milk add 2 heaped tablespoons of flower and a large know of butter, cook on medium heat continuously whisking until milk begins to thicken, add grated cheese and a teaspoon of English mustard with some salt and pepper and you have a simple yet very tasty cheese sauce. If a good sausage meat stuffing is to hard to make sainsbury have a very nice sausage meet stuffing.

The food has gone down hill alot! Save your money, small portions & very, very expensive. I love the look & feel of the place but it stops there!

Very tasty fish and chips, husband had very tasty and great looking signature burger which he thoroughly enjoyed. Well done, we will definitely be back.

A really good roast. We’ve eaten there before maybe several months ago being the last time. Must be a new chef? The Sunday roast was awesome. Plenty of it, plenty of variety, cauliflower cheese to die for and really friendly staff. The only thing that let them down were the roast spuds, nice bit should have been great - lovely place, great food, professional and friendly staff. Defo going back for another Sunday roast

Regularly use the bar and restaurant, probably the best establishment in the area. Always a warm friendly welcome from the staff, great food and nothing’s too much trouble, good old fashioned hospitality at its best set in a barn setting. Very rare these days to find a place where you can hold a conversation with friends over a meal or drinks. can’t fault it. All the staff are highly professional but we do have our favourites…Dexter for instance whether it be behind the bar where he always remembers your preferred beverage of choice from the previous visit or his pleasant manner of serving in the Dining areas. Absolute asset to the business. The Food here is amazing, the Chef’s Tom & Declan always get it right. Beautifully presented good quality meals. Highly recommend!

Myself and my boyfriend came here for lunch on a Sunday booked in at 2:45 we ordered our food and drink very quickly at 2:50! Our drinks came a few minutes later only ordering a lemonade and a Pepsi! After waiting a whole hour for our food with no one checking on us or asking if we wanted more drinks I asked our waitress if she could check on our food! She came back saying that our ticket hadn’t even made it into the kitchen! I have worked in hospitality for a very long time and I completely understand when some things go wrong! But for no one to realise that the ticket hadn’t make it or that we hadn’t eaten for an hour I was very shocked! She came back saying that our food would be made quickly and 20 mins later our food came out! She said she would try and get something sorted! She came over saying that 10% would be taken off our bill which was only 3.89 I asked her if we could get some drinks on the house at least as well but her reply was I have already taken money of the bill! No manager came over to check or apologise to us, he was just on his phone behind the bar! I’m so disappointed in my visit! Won’t be returning!

Firstly i would like to highlight I always take time to write positive reviews! However we all felt the same after our visit . Firstly I had a gin and tonic the gin came out of a tap, it tasted like flat soda! When I spoke to the Manager ?Mark he said tonics tasted the same wither from the tap or bottled!! We sat down and all six of us decided to opt for the ribeye steak! We were told that there was only one left our table booking was 715pm!! So we opted to drink our drinks and leave. Don’t think we will be rushing back!

It was good to see the venue was busy as I feel that it adds to the ambience. We were shown to our table an told that we would be served very soon by a member of the staff, which we were. I find the staff here very well trained in customer care, they know how to relate to cistomers needs without being intrusive. The order having been taken, our drinks arrived in good time followed by the meals that we had ordered, both of which were of an acceptable quality/size and piping hot. This was followed by the mini desserts with tea or offee which we both like, as they are just the right size following the main course. A throughly enjoyable evening, thank you.

We had a sister visiting from Australia and she wanted to get together with some cousins she'd not seen for years. We always have a nice lunch at the Swallows so booked it. The staff were very welcoming and managed our various orders expertly..food was good. Thoroughly recommend this pub restaurant.

Thank you to the chefs for yet another great roast dinner and to our waitress Kirsty for looking after us so well. We will be back soon.

The second time coming here for a group social and it was just as great as the first! Kirsty was our waitress on both occasions and she has been absolutely brilliant! Makes sure nothing is any trouble and looks after our party for every detail. Also the Roast Dinners are great!

After an afternoon of go karting we had a group of 16 people for dinner. A table was reserved for us by Kirstie and the evening could not have gone better. The food was served up hot and prompt. Very impressed as there were so many of us. The staff were very nice, polite and could not have been more helpful with any queries we had. A special thank you to Kirstie for arranging the evening for us and looking after us.

Excellent food and service by Kirsty Tues 23 January for an evening meal with some girlfriends. Very good value at 50% off mains! The seabass is sooo lovely, I always have this when I go there! Please don't stop doing! We all enjoyed our meals. Kirsty was very polite, friendly and helpful.

What a great night with friends, food was cooked to perfection and no long wait, staff were brilliant and very helpful as there were a few of us eating, will be going again.

We came down from London with our dogs for a walk on the beach, and literally stopped by chance to see if we could get a table? And without a reservation they found us a table. Sat with our wet dogs we had the most delicious meal, served by great staff and welcomed by a lovely host! I would recommend anyone with or without dogs to come here. Food is amazing and staff very welcoming. Looking forward to our next visit.

The twelve of us had a very good night. Food cooked by Sam and James was great, service was excellent - Natalie was very attentive, humorous and tolerant! We stayed for about 3 hours and never felt like the staff were trying to move us on. Really conducive to a relaxed social gathering.

We had not booked in advance and were very lucky to get a table as the place was almost fully booked. The staff were really friendly and helpful The food was excellent and portions very generous. Most definitely plan to return.

Man on the bar wasn't welcoming and not polite. Young waitress smile and very attentive. Menu is different then online. No lamb roast on Sunday and we came coz of that.team looks tired and un happy only our waitress was up for a job

We had an excellent Sunday lunch with great service (we arrived 15 minutes early but were taken straight to our table). The drinks selection is excellent too.

Burger was fine, but others mediocre. Too expensive for quality of food offered. Worst was steak, which was grisly, not helped by blunt knife. They offered to cook another piece as one in ten of their steaks are grisly! After 15 mins we asked how long they would be as others had finished. We were told our steak was now at back of the queue and they had 3 tables to serve before they cooked it! We didn’t wait and they didn’t charge for steak. Warning, if you go at night, there is no light on path between car park and entrance. Disappointing experience.

Lovely atmosphere, great food and service, allergy respected and checked.

We came for a meal for my daughter's birthday on Friday. It was busy but service was good and our food was really nice. Unfortunately a lady on the next table suffered a medical episode so we offered to move so that she had more room. Unfortunately there was not a table of 6 to move to so my son then needed to stand. We were then ignored. We were not offered pudding or drinks and my daughter's birthday cake never came out of the kitchen. Eventually, after a 45 minute wait, we paid our bill and asked for our cake back (unopened). This was a very sad ending to my daughter's birthday and our meal. We completely understand that the lady was poorly (though was fine and left before us) but it was very poor service for us and for my daughter on her special night out. The manager did not even thank us for moving.

Friendly pub/restaurant, with a nice atmosphere. We visited today for Sunday lunch, for the first time. The vegan roast was large, but quite disappointing- just vegetables with some sort of nuts & fruits creation on top (picture shown is before gravy, a parsnip & broccoli arrived). My partner had the vegan aubergine parmigiana, which, again, I would say was quite underwhelming. Definitely could do better with vegan options

The last time I visited this pub I wouldn’t have given it 5 stars, but now it’s a very nice place to have a meal. The food was very good and well presented and the service given by Jackie went way beyond excellent. Her cheerfull demeanour was something you don’t find in a lot of places.

Friendly helpful staff with exceptional customer service and great setting. We came into the restaurant and was told initially or table was not free, then escorted to a nice corner of the restaurant, which was quiet and comfortable chairs. Too many restaurants have those hard chairs. I have to commend the female manager here. I ordered a steak pie and after that wasn't paying attention when the waitress read back the order. When a lasagna came out I told them it was wrong. The waitress apologised and said they can change but will take 20min. So I took the order and slowly started we eating. The manager came over shortly after to apologise and confirmed they can arrange for the pie to her ready in 5 Minutes, and said I can eat the lasagna until the pie arrived. After that the staff allowed us to eat at our leisure. We didn't tell rushed and could have easily sat there drinking if we didn't need too dash off. I would definitely recommend conning here again, especially when they have half over price main meals deal. The foods, services, comfortable seats and relaxed calming surroundings are definitely worth it.

Everything, very welcoming, food was spot on. Portions were excellent. I took my brothers and their wives and they all walked out with smiles on their faces.

The food was very nice cooked by Jack, 2 x sea bass, 1 macaroni cheese. The atmosphere was great, very cosy, not too busy, table service was provided by a very attentive Dexter.

Service was incredibly slow , drinks took nearly 20 minutes to arrive , asked the waitress for butter for our starter and she brought it after we’d eaten it and she didn’t apologise, asked for sauces with our main she said yeah of course and never returned with our sauces , ordered halloumi side and it arrived after we’d finished our mains and she said sorry it took so long , the restaurant wasn’t even busy , the waitresses were not hospitality trained , very blunt and young and unbothered about there job seemed like everything was to much effort for them wouldn’t be returning! Especially when it came to £70 for 2 people you’d expect better!

We waited an hour for our main course after our starter was cleared. On enquiring about our main course I was told it was being plated up but it still didn't appear .... The food was good, good portion sizes, well presented hot and tasty. We went on the Friday having prebooked as we had a family dog with us and it was shortly after lunch but it was still fairly steady. As each course was meal was ordered we were asked if there were any allergies or dietary requirements! The staff are polite and friendly but like most places they are understaffed ... disabled parking, wheelchair friendly, clean disabled toilets and room to move around. It's a beautiful place with a lovely courtyard.

Service was great, not impressed with their prawn cocktail , lettuce leaves were too large and their bitterness overpowered the prawns.

I have been to the Swallows Return for three years now at this time of year and it's usually OK but I was disappointed with my meal today. I had belly pork which was OK but nothing special it was served on mash with a few sprigs of broccoli which were tepid when the food arrived and stone cold by the time I was half way through. Everyone else had a plate full of vegetables but I had to buy extra I was annoyed about this. There was not enough to eat on my plate. Also a lot of things on the starter menu weren't available. We arrived at 1pm and waited a very long time to get served and actually get our food. It wasn't extraordinary busy. Others on my table enjoyed their food more.

As usual food and service was good but not everything was available on the menu which was disappointing.

Excellent service and lovely food. We all enjoyed our meals. 1 of our party was disappointed the scallops were not available as a starter but apart from that the meal was great. There was a serious flooding issue on the approach to and in the car park. It looks like this has been a long standing problem and is surely worth some investment to resolve. I was concerned that my elderly Mother would struggle to walk safely from the car to the restaurant.

Easy to book online with quick confirmation by email/text. Friendly, helpful staff even whilst being very busy. Food was nice, although my Mac n cheese was dry - not really a cheesy sauce, & the garlic bread didn't have enough garlic or butter. My friend loved her burger & our deserts were delicious! The disabled toilet had no way to lock the door from the inside, which needs sorting! We are back next week with friends, which we're looking forward to.

I came for a Christmas party meal. Was arranged for 7pm table wasn't set for enough people. By 7.20 my boss had to sort the table out. Each course took a hour to come out and we had to ask each time for table to be cleared of plates. Drinks took ages to be done and glasses not cleared of the table. We finally finished out last course at 11pm

Only thing that let the experience down was the lack of lighting in the car park.. It's dangerous.. Pot holes full of water. Pitch black and very unsafe.. I know they have had issues but still some sort it lights could be put up.. Even if it's a large battery operated light. It is Christmas!! 🚦🌲🎄

We sat in the dining room having pre booked. We had a very long wait for food to be served. I had the pie with mash which was very good ,my partner had the curry which was very hot 🥵 and overly spicy and the chicken was too tough to chew . We both enjoyed the mini dessert choice ., but had to stand up and put our coats on before the waiter brought our bill.

There was a lot of the menu that was unavailable . Ie Turkey, lamb, pigs in blanket, cauliflower cheese, parsnips, which was a little disappointing. The kitchen was slow .

Great winter atmosphere and we were given a table by the open fire which was lovely. All the staff were very attentive and service was quick. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food choices and I thought the sirloin steak was absolutely delicious.

Good atmosphere and excellent food

Such an amazing place,staff are so lovely and helpful. I meet up with two friends here and we natter over a 5 or 6hour lunch. Wouldn't dream of going anywhere else.

Family get together. Meal was lovely but with only one person behind the bar dealing with a large group, no one çame out immediately to deal with us. Once a member of staff came out the evening was enjoyable with good food and pleasant ambiance. (Growing up in Worthing but leaving in the late 80’s, I remember your establishment when it was part of a working farm!)

Poor service and disappointing food Very slow service, drinks took 10-15 minutes to arrive at the table , cocktail was very lacklustre, no decorations etc Ordered two sirloin steaks cooked medium rare. One was raw in the middle and tough and sinewy, the other was overcooked Offered a free dessert in recompense but we didn’t want any, so no reduction was made

Phenomenal food, service is fantastic. It was nice not to be rushed, the courses were spread well in timings meaning we could really enjoy our food and take our time, a quality lacking in so many restaurants these days. Really friendly staff, so welcoming. Beautiful place. We are never disappointed.

Took my partner to The Swallows Return for dinner. A beautiful, spotlessly clean building with a pleasant atmosphere. Staff very pleasant and polite. Sadly, the restaurant staff could possibly do with a bit of training as it was, to say the least, a little sloppy. No ice bucket for the prosecco, no matching prosecco flutes! It was cold in the restaurant. Apparently the manager had said that the fire would take 20 minutes to get started and therefore they weren't going to light it. A bottle of ketchup doesn't look good in a restaurant! A bottle and 2 dirty glasses were left on the edge of our table all night. (They were ours) They had run out of the wine we had chosen. Slightly overpriced food for what it was. Small starters were almost £8 each. We had asked to sit at a particular table as it was a special occasion. The Manager said that as it was a table for 4, it wasn't possible to book it. When we arrived at the restaurant, the table we had requested had just 2 people sitting at it..... Not sure if we will return to eat at The Swallows, just stick to a drink. Not enough care and attention paid in the restaurant.

Good food at decent prices and free parking on-site. Is next to a busy main road and can be very busy so would recommend booking in advance

Very slow service, confused menus as we all had different versions, non-availability of items on the menu, undercooked pie/poor quality meat used, not enough staff/long wait to place order or receive food, over 40 minutes to receive coffee. Staff very apologetic at the end trying to assure us that this is not normal.

We’ve eaten here a few times and it’s always been fine, not great but ok. 2 weeks ago we called in for an evening meal. There was a young guy basically serving the restaurant on his own and doing the best he could so this review does not reflect the service from him at all. The older, and I would think more experienced members of staff there were terrible. They offered no help in the busy restaurant and instead gathered behind the bar chatting. We waited 25 minutes and our drinks hadn’t arrived so I went to the bar as the poor waiter was snowed under. At the bar I found 3 members of staff, one messing around on the till and 2 chatting. Nobody so much as acknowledged me! I stood there for ages and even said excuse me loudly but nothing, I returned to our table. By this point I’d pretty much had enough. My husband went to the bar where he met the lovely waiter who got our drinks and apologised that he wasn’t old enough to do them himself, to be fair he was doing enough! Our starters came and they were fine, clearly just microwaved as they had that odd metallic taste but we were hungry and it wasn’t terrible. When my main course arrived I wished we’d just left at the drinks stage. I’d ordered macaroni cheese which had been microwaved so much that one entire side was literally welded to the side of the bowl, it was inedible. Luckily I had salad and some chips with it which I ate. I felt too bad for the poor waiter to send it back and by this point we’d been there so long that I just wanted to pay and leave. We gave him a tip and told him it was for him, I’m sure he shared it but not one other member of staff there that night deserved a penny of it. I really hope that things improve as I’d hate to see another pub disappear from the area.

Been here a couple of times. The food is okay but they're severely understaffed. Management can't be bothered clearly to see how overworked their workers are as they're forgetting orders or very overwhelmed with people. People around me were getting agitated with the service both times. Has potential to be a great place but it's only okay for now.

My wife and I went here for a well earned lunch date on Friday. We had downloaded the Vintage Inns app the night before because it offered £20 off the meal. We booked our table and went along. I spoke to the barman and asked about the £20 discount and showed him the app on my phone, as I couldn't find the voucher. He explained it was £20 off our next meal. Fair enough but not really explained on the app very well. We decided to sit in the garden as it was a nice day. I noticed a blackboard saying to order from the app and quote the table number. This i did, paid and waited for our drinks and food. After a while we noticed people who were arriving after us getting served drinks and starters, but no sign of our order. Eventually our starters came out, "before our drinks, which is strange " I had the pate, which was very nice, my wife had calamari. The calamari had obviously been taken out of the freezer and dumped in the congealed lumps into a deep fry. It was a solid crunchy mess that my wife struggled to eat. We were not given cutlery but told to go inside and get it. Then the wait for our drinks. Eventually I had to go in and ask where they were? They were then brought out with no apology for the wait. Then we waited another 30 minutes for our mains. I had the Hunters Chicken schnitzel, basically a chicken burger with a few bits of streaky bacon and bbq sauce on, the chips were nice though, although when it was brought out it came with mash and had to be changed. My wife had the prawn linguine. This consisted off linguine pasta in sauce with 4 prawns and 2 cherry tomatoes cut in half. My wife didn't eat it because it didn't taste nice. A bargain dish at almost £16. If I hadn't have already paid on the app I wouldn't have paid. As we left i complained to the manager about our experience. He said the wait for the drinks was down to people at the bar that we couldn't see as we were outside. The prawn serving was their standard ratio of 4 to 5 prawns and that i shouldn't expect what i might make at home," No i expect better from a restaurant " He did offer that the next time we could have a free drink and a discount on our bill. Sadly there won't be a next time. At nearly £60 we were very disappointed all round. A shame as we have had a couple of lovely Christmas dinners there. Definitely don't recommend.

Nice staff, lovely food, except we went late pm so roast potatoes liked more like boiled. Well worth a visit.

Food was lovely, however the service was slow and did not get orders correct.

Good experience spoilt by the food. Good portions but the quality of the cooking was poor. Floppy carrots, overcooked Yorkshire's. Roast potatoes were boiled potatoes slightly roasted. Not enough shared vegetables for the adults attending. No outside play area for our two young uns aged two and five. Not really family friendly and overpriced for the quality of food served. Shame really.
