Second visit to the Sutherland Arms but first visit to eat. Had Sunday lunch, opted for the Beef and it was delicious ... found the side orders to be a little on the expensive side but will definately be back to eat. Lovely staff and good service.

What a lovely find! A child and dog friendly public house nestled away in a quaint little village. We popped by at around 3pm midweek and ordered the vegetarian chili and lasagne. The food was very tasty and a generous portion. The lady who served us was very friendly and helpful. There are water bowls and treats available at the entrance of the pub as well as a good sized beer garden at the front with some cover for shade/rain.

Visited with my wife in March 2018 after reading some positive reviews. We have not visited The Sutherland Arms for many years and we decided to revisit for a meal. On arrival we noticed the addition of a modern entrance on the front of building and the improved decking also at the front. The place nice and warm when we went through the new front entrance area and a modern bar with four hand pulls were in front of us. The beers were all from the Marston's group , as The Sutherland Arms is one of their pubs. I tried half of Jennings Wainwright which was ok but nothing special. The lady behind the bar was friendly and interested the customers requirements. We moved into the rear dining area and I was able to use the free WiFi on the tablet . We checked the menus which were reasonably priced and decided that I would have a steak, cheese and ale pie whilst my wife had a steak. We had our food brought to table and were surprised by the mountain of peas that accompanied the meal on the plate. Sadly the main items were both disappointing. My pie had potential but had rock hard pastry and in my opinion it had been overcooked. My wife did not like her steak which had a very odd taste. I sampled her steak and it was lacking any normal beef steak taste instead was bland and dry textured. I did mention the pie problem to the lady behind the bar who apologised and said the pies were made off site as part of a central purchase by the pub group. We liked the place and the customer service but in my opinion the food has to improve if people are enjoy a visit to The Sutherland Arms.

Todos estamos de acuerdo en que las comidas eran de muy buena calidad y fueron muy generosos en sus raciones. Friends from nearby Edgmond recommended the Sutherland to my wife as a 'gem of a place' to eat, so we decided to give it a go and take a drive out as a Bank Holiday treat. The pub is tucked away in a lovely village, which we've made a note of visiting again for a walk around its lanesLots of people were sat in the garden enjoying the sun, so a good start. Going in, a bubbly girl behind the bar welcomed and served us. We asked for menus and sat outside while we decided what to have. It was a small selection of traditional pub grub and burgers along with some steaks and sides. Nothing to write home about, but still enough for us to choose from. Prices were average, about £7-£10 for most items and about £2-£3 for the sidesWe went for a burger and a sirloin steak. After ordering the service time was ok - about 20 minutes for it to arrive, but being sat outside, the lovely waitress came and found us to ask if we wanted to stay outside or eat in the restaurant. All in all, we couldn't fault the service, food or price. The sunny location made it the perfect end to our long Bank Holiday weekend, and speaking to a few of the 'locals' added to the whole afternoon.Definitely one for a return visit, and somewhere I'd have no issue in recommending to anyone.

We pre booked a table for sunday lunch and we're asked to pre order I have no problem with this they said they would email over menus nothing arrived I had to chase them three times and was then told that we could have beef or chicken I was so fed up I agreed and phoned the order through on the Friday . We arrived for Sunday Lunch and we're greeted by rude and grumpy staff we were told where our table was it was not set up with any cutlery , we waited about at fifteen minutes then the first meals came out well the beef was like mince meat and the chicken pieces so small the plates were cold and the Yorkshire puds were no way home made like advertised the cauliflower was hard and the white cabbage raw the peas are the only green veg and there we not enough carrots and they had no more , we were charged £5.95 for a child's Sunday lunch and it was so small it's disgusting , it is also advertised that children get a free dessert but we were charged for a ice cream . We did complain but we're offered no bill reduction drink or dessert . These people clearly do not no how to run a pub and I will not be returning in fact I will be telling all my friends not to go there , so cross and disappointed.

A large party of us went for Sunday lunch which was pre-ordered to make it easy for the restaurant. There was even a fuss made ordering in advance and the bar did not not call back to confirm until they were given two reminders. We were sitting outside when we were asked to go to our table in the restaurant as we walked into the restaurant the party that was leaving wished us good luck. The table was not prepared for us and after waiting over 15 minutes we were each given a knife and fork wrapped in a paper napkin. We were not asked if we would like starters. The pre ordered roasts were brought to the table. The beef was shredded into small pieces and looked like dog food and the chicken was in small pieces straight from a frozen packet the meat portions were miniscule and more like children's portions. We commented on the beef and was told that was how it was served and it had been cooked for ten hours we asked for more chicken and for stuffing and were told they would bring us more chicken. No more chicken was served and we were told they did not has any stuffing. There was plenty of overcooked cabbage and boiled potatatoes but insufficient carrots and were were again told they had run out. The cauliflower was soggy and bland, the Yorkshire pudding were frozen and tiny and the gravy was like dishwater. We had a two year old infant with us and the bar had the cheek to charge us £6.00. for a baby's meal. The waiting staff and the landlord could not care less when we made comments about the meal. We would have liked a sweet to stave off our hunger but were afraid to order one. We went elsewhere for afternoon tea as we felt it would be safer. We have been to this establishment on numerous occasions previously for Sunday and always had a super meal but we understand the bar is under new management. The bill was nearly a hundred one hundred pounds for our party and we all considered a it complete waste of money. We will certainly not be going back until Marstons the Brewery replace this landlord.I do not normally make a fuss and this is the first time I have ever posted a review on Trip Advisor.

Found the Sutherland on a real ale list and decided to treat my husband as he likes his cask beers. Busy little bar when we visited on Friday evening, with very friendly staff, who made to feel so at home. 5 ales on that day so we decided to stop, try a couple and eat there as well. I had a mushroom stack starter (very nice) and my husband had the King Prawns, also nice but a little mean on the amount. We then both had steaks which were cooked to perfection, mine medium and hubbies medium-rare, which never usually arrives any different, but his was still almost mooing, just how he likes it :)The cook / landlord came over afterwards and chatted for a while which we found a nice touch. The Sutherland is on our list for a return visit.... soon!

So we just went for a family meal here and we ordered starters and mains. 10 mins in two of the mains were unavailable so we picked another. Another 10 minutes and the new starters were also unavailable. One diner was vegetarian so nothing for them. Two of the four mains also were unavailable so one diner only had soup which was inedible so that was left and two of the mains were what looked like leftover scrapings. So the mains went back too. The waitress was excellent and really apologetic and we were given the meal for free. So we went to the Spa for crisps and chocolate :) Real shame as we never complain about meals and sadly will probably only drink there again. Nice pub and atmosphere. It's just a small restaurant with around 30 seats, but has a lovely country pub feel right in the heart of the village, was reccomended to us by a friend and I'm so glad we came. Excellent service, and the added bonus was a singer, Jason Kerr, who sang after we ate - mainly rat pack songs, but a few Ed Sheeran and Michael Buble ones in there too which was nice. Kids loved it and had a little dance with the hubby as well. Excellent day out.

After hearing excellent reviews my husband and I decided to try the Sutherland out tonight. My alarm bells started when I rang to book a table and the guy who answered the phone aaid he had booked a table but didnt take any details until I asked him to.. so we arrived and the table was booked! Straight away we were told they hardly had any meat and only 1 steak left. We were shown to an unlaid table. We ordered 3 tapas style dishes to start only to be told no olives either ! We opted for chicken wings, nice but not crispy, chorizo, ok and a rarebit fondue with a slice of toast...clearly a microwave dish. We had to ask for cutlery and napkins. Mains came. My husband had the peshwari curry which altho he had no complaints it was just ok. I ordered the steak. I asked if the chips were frozen as I don't like them.. I was told they were fresh. The steak came, covered in grease on the outside and as dry as dry inside. . With frozen chips. We had to call the guy back as we had no cutlery again.... I left a fair portion of my meal. The landlord came and enquired if we liked our food. I explained mine was not nice and had frozen chips. He gave us a free drink.. which as i was driving was pointless really. Would have appreciated a nice dessert instead... or at least half of the price of my meal taken off the bill... wont be returning. . Shame really as the pub is lovely and he seemed like a nice guy... even if he did blend in a bit too much with his regulars ...

We read an advertisement in the local newspaper stating 2 for 1 on the grill menu every Monday night and instantly booked a table for the following Monday. Had visited the pub many times in the past but not for food and was pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. The pub was decorated nicely and was light and roomy. It was quite busy but didn't have to wait long once we had ordered and there is a good selection of drinks at the bar. The food itself was good quality, well presented and very tasty. My wife had an 8oz Sirloin and I had a 10oz Rump steak which came with chips, peas and half a grilled tomato. We also had a side order of onion rings and a chilli-bourbon sauce each. The chips were especially nice as they were ready salted and peppered to perfection. There is a good selection of desserts/puddings for adults and children. My wife had Rhubarb crumble with custard and I had Sticky Toffee pudding with custard which were very nice. I have only a few criticisms of the puddings with the first one being that they were served in a low sided flat dish instead of a bowl. I don't like having to chase my food around the dish. The second is that the custard portion could be a little bit larger. It was all value for money too as our two meals, desserts and drinks came to just over £30.All in all it was a great dinind experience and would highly recommend a visit and we will certainly be returning soon.

I like the way the pub seems to set itself up as the traditional heart of the village..retaining darts and pool (or was it a snooker table?) It caters for all activities and has plenty of cheap bites available at very reasonable prices. We went on a Wed evening where a pint and a curry was on offer for €7.The only downside for us is accessing Tibberton from North Telford via the quiet narrow lanes of the Moors. The furnishings are very eclectic and a bit mismatched. However it is a real asset for the villagers .

We were attracted by the reasonable price and smaller roasts available for children. We were seated and served very quickly. The food arrived piping hot with a lovely selection of vegetables and meat. There was a homemade vegetarian choice too. The food was well cooked and the children cleared their plates. Although we were quite full we couldn't resist the tempting variety of puddings which were less than half price on a Sunday and very tasty. All in all a very enjoyable meal and very good value. The children loved stroking Gemma the dog too. We will definitely return and have already recommended it to friends.

We have visited this lovely country pub on a number of occasions for a meal and each time it has been a lovely experience. I am vegetarian and most other pubs only offer vegetable lasagne (ughh) but here they have a good selection of veggie dishes. Also, we always get a friendly welcome from the landlord but best of all is the welcome we get from the official greeter, Gemma the Spaniel dog. There are a good selection of wines and well kept beers and the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. So all in all, a great place to visit.

Live in Sheffield and spent some time looking for somewhere to take my 87 year old mother for lunch. Telephoned on Sunday to book a table for Monday, lady took my mobile as most restaurants do, confirmed 1.00pm on Monday. Travelled from Sheffield, collected my mother from Gnosall and found our way to Tibberton, 12 miles away. Arrived at the Sutherland Arms to find a notice saying no food served today. Were told by the barmaid ‘no food today, the chef not in!!’. Obviously I complained about a wasted journey so she said she would have a word with the manager. Came back with a message from him/her sorry but he will ‘get something’ for us, although it would take some time - no sign of the manager, obviously left with a very disappointed mother. All it would have taken would have been one phone call. Cannot pass comment on the food etc., however if this is the way the Sutherland conducts business I don’t hold much hope.

Called in for the first time Saturday lunch 25 April.Although it was just after midday the bar was packed with cyclists and my wife and myself were undecided about staying fearing a long wait to get served.I'm glad we decided to stay as we would have missed a great meal had we gone.We only waited a few minutes for drinks despite the packed bar and our food arrived after only ten minutes. We both had the large cod and chips which was both fresh and delicious. The landlord and his wife were both friendly and attentive and the whole experience was one which we will definitely be repeating.Would recommend the Sutherland Arms as a must visit

Nice location and environment but it took over an hour for food to arrive even though it wasn't busy. Our meals were pretty bland and tasteless. Very disappointing.

Went in for a birthday meal and decided to have the ribeye steak off the specials board. My wife had the belly pork with Apple mash and we had a couple of drinks and a bottle of wineThe rib eye was without shadow of a doubt the best steak I have had in 30 years (and believe me I have eaten some steaks)and at £11.95 probably one of the cbeapestThe pub was buzzing with lots of full tables and a packed bar which gave it a great atmosphere We will definitely be back numerous times What a gem

We have used this pub on many occasions and enjoy the way all country life is reflected in the clientele. The welcome is always warm and the food is great value. We have never had a bad experience and reading some of the other reviews are wondering why people going to a village pub would not expect to see people in riding boots or dogs in the pub. Maybe they should stick to town centre hostelries.

Visited on a Friday evening for a meal and after reading the menu we were expecting a descent standard of food. We orders two starters the blackpudding stack and the breaded mushrooms, the mushrooms were quite soggy and the stack was very poor as the blackpudding was lacking in flavour and instead of rocket as stated on the menu it was topped with shredded lettuce with a vinegeret / oil dressing around the edge of the plate which did not combine well with the small drizzle of peppercorn sauce. We were waiting for our mains when a family with a dog came into the dining room and sat behind us, we are dog lovers but found this to be inappropriate where food is being eaten by others. When our mains arrived the vegetables in the skillet were over cooked and the chicken was dry. Half way through the meals people came into the dining area wearing riding boots that looked like and smelled like they had just come from mucking out stables which put us completely off our meals, needless to say We did not order dessert but payed and left. We will not be visiting again as this seems to be the norm as the staff took no notice.

We were staying in the next village just before christmas and we were told that the Sutherland Arms was a good value pub style eating venue - not cheap but not expensive either. We were greeted by the barman and asked if we could have a table for 2 and even though they were a lot busier than we expected for a village pub they soon found us a table in the new part of their restaurant area. There was a good selection of food on offer and because it was a wednesday they told us that if we ordered a curry from their curry menu we could have a free drink as well. We decided that this is what we would do and we both had the lamb saag curry. To our surprise it came out with a naan bread, poppadum and mango chutney as well as a bowl of piping hot curry and rice - a big enough portion but i wish we had ordered a few more poppadums as well.We finished off with a Caramel sundae and a ginger cheesecake each and the whole meal was less than £22We would definitely recommend the pub if not for its good value food just for the friendly welcome and atmoshpere. Nice to see a pub succeding for a change

Having seen a promotion for The Sutherland Arms in a local paper we decided to have a weekday lunch there on Thursday 11th December. What a disappointment!I ordered a steak & ale pie and my wife ordered a well done gammon steak. The meals arrived on our table promptly but the jug of gravy was missing from the steak & ale. I had to prompt this at the bar and when delivered there was no apology. The gammon was not well cooked and a very tough piece of meat, the peas were under cooked and none of that meal was really hot. My steak & ale pie had an excess of soggy pastry and was very lacking in flavor the carrots were also soggy and over cooked. One sweet was ordered which took well over a quarter of an hour to appear on the table although with an apology for the delay. In defense of the staff the price of the gammon was deducted from the bill but who wants to go out for a meal only to find it of such low quality? All in all the impression was that the establishment has re-opened and advertised before the kitchen and its staff were fully trained.

Excellent local pub - taken over by Andy and Ruth this pub has gone from a drab, boring pub to a lively, friendly and constantly busy village pub. Feel very lucky to have this place on my doorstep and make a point of visiting regularly!Food is great and well priced, beer is always fresh and ales are changed up regularly. I also like the fact that they have regular tapas nights, theme parties and basically just make an effort to provide a great local pub!Keep it up!

We were last in the Sutherland Arms about 5 years ago and really we had no need to return. It was a local country pub and offered very little by way of food. We had heard that it was now under new management and decided to give it a try for Sunday lunch. Wow, what a pleasant surprise we had. A warm welcome was only the start. We opted for the Sunday roast beef at £5.95 a head. Fabulously presented & cooked to perfection, the ample portions were beyond our expections. The service was good without being intrusive. This country pub has reinvented itself. We will be returning again soon. If you are in this area of Shropshire give this dog friendly pub restaurant a try, you will not be dissapointed.

I called for lunch. The place had only two other people dinning. The menu was standard pub food. The dish I selected on appearance did not look anything like my order. However I gave them a chance to try and test. I should not have done this but just sent it back, Eventually the "chef" sent out his apologies.Another point is that they do not fill the pint glasses you have to ask for the top up.The young staff were polite but there was a lack of training and management.

On a walk in sunny Shropshire the village of Tibberton is a gem and quinessential England .Great little pub with great choice of Bitter, immaculate toilets and sound basic pub grub.Young Harry the barman didn't have a clue when we asked for directions but he and everyone were very friendly.Only the loud awful music blaring outside as we sipped our Ale in the Sun spoiled the ambiance but otherwise well done Harry it was a pleasure.

Very friendly family pub in a very quiet village. The prices don't reflect the value of the meal, they should charge more for the food. Advised to book in advance beforehand where possible as it can be very busy. Landlord and Lady and very nice, welcoming people.

We took a trip to this pub in the middle of Tibberton on a week night at about 6. It was already packed but the Lanlord and Landlady bent over backwards to fit us in. The food is amazingly goodvalue to the point where it is almost too good to bs true. However our two meals were freshly prepared and well presented and with drinks cost about £12 in total! A small selection of real ales are availabl. From mid week onwards I advise you book ahead as they had to turn people away.

We came out for my birthday dinner. Myself, partner and 2 children. The waitress was beyond amazing, took our drinks order and was so quick! We ordered our food, I ordered a lot of sushi, my partner the lamb chops and both kids had the kids burgers. The lamb chops were tasty, the kids enjoyed the burgers but my goodness - the sushi was absolutely mind-blowing!!! I enjoy my sushi and have it regularly and this was the best sushi I’ve had in a long time!! I do not understand why this restaurant isn’t busier!!! They deserve to be busy all the time! If your nearby give them a chance!!!
