This pub is best visited when there is no rugby or Christmas parties. The interior is very small though they have erected a heated marquee in the garden during busier times. Sadly and as expected service and quality suffers when they are packed

Read the reviews so tried the roast. The menu stated a leg of lamb? It was 2 thin slices of an overcooked joint that you would buy from Iceland's. Chewy, no flavour certainly not a leg of lamb. Beer also tased like the lines had not been cleaned for a while - we were left very disappointed. £60 for a roast and 2 drinks.

I am incredibly disgusted and disappointed, this is supposed to be a family pub. On two occasions now they have let me down. The first visit with the kids play area there was dog poo in the rubber floor. When I told the staff they did nothing productive to clear it up. I was told ‘I am sorry’ and he carried on cleaning the cutlery. There was no attempt to remove the dog poo or inspection. The second time, the kids area which is clearly sign posted for under 12s only. Had many children definitely over 12, lighting and flicking matches on the play equipment, while young children were running around. Reported to the management absolutely nothing done. Disgusting we won’t be going back again. I appreciate kids are a handful but the play area needs to be policed better, if you’re going to advertise yourself as a family pub.

Is a lovely local pub, The food is nice and not crazy expensive. It is presented well and tasty with some choices that are not conventional:D We had a really good time and the outside space with the small playground is a lovely addition for a relaxing afternoon. I'd you are a group of friends with children I'm sure this can become your new favourite spot

Went here today, lovely pub and a fabulous space at the back the garden is huge. It's an old type of pub and we loved that it's was beautiful inside. The garden has a play area for small children handy for parents. There is a large covered area to sit outside and then the main garden. It was clean and tidy. Staff were very nice and friendly. Drinks very strong I had the house wine it was lovely but strong, my husband has a double jd he said it was great. All in all a lovely pub will definitely be back. We didn't eat but they served food and what we did see looked lovely.

Great meal , with a drink or two with my wife. Haven’t been to the Sussex for a while but the all of the above were as good as they have always been.

Solidly good pub, better history than other nearby pubs. Good selection of beers, lovely staff. Large beer garden.

Awful Mother's Day lunch and experience! Lets start with the food, a couple of prawns in the prawn cocktail on a huge bed of limp lettuce, slushy avocado and 3 tortilla chips stuffed in the top, I guess rather than bread! The roasts were served cold and the vegetables were impossible to chew as they were so hard. My daughter had roast; sorry FRIED chicken. This is a small pub so having outside tables definitely increases the revenue and why not!!!??? Leaking gazebos, inadequate heating, seriously guys, I would suggest you sit out there and have some food and ask yourself is it nice and am I warm!? It's a big NO from me! I have been to lots of establishments that offer outside seating but they have heaters that actually do the job of heating said space and for the price of the food the game seriously needs to be improved! I was embarrassed we choose this for our Mother's on Mother's Day.

A chilled mother's day lunch. The outside area was all under cover with heaters placed at the end of each table. The kids play area was also under cover, so the kids could still play despite the cold and the rain. It was the least stressful mother's day lunch we've ever had as a family - we'll be back again. Food was great, service friendly. Perfect

Bit disappointed to be honest, firstly went for a mother's day lunch, booked a table for 3 people and was put on the smallest of tables, sitting in back breaking stools right next to the ladies lavatory. Secondly the food wasn't as good as expected, chicken was dry the sharer roast only came with 3 potatoes which were so large they were not cooked properly. Alot of work needed in this pub to get my vote for customer satisfaction.

Food was great and they have a large selection of drinks available. Perfect for friends and family, particularly if you have small children, as they have a large back garden with outside tables and a children play area. One of our favourite local pubs.

Great food, great selection of beers, ales and cider. Guinness is good and they have bacon fries!!! Dog friendly with treats for the four leggers at the bar.

I love the natural flow of this place, its comfortable and warm atmosphere, especially sitting by the fireplace, chatting with my friends and enjoying the atmosphere by having a drink.

Huge selection of well cared for ales in a friendly relaxed environment. We called in on a Thursday evening and the steak night was on, the fillet steak with chips was a perfectly medium rare with a great peppercorn sauce.

Came in here a few days ago! It was okay! Bar staff seemed a little blunt but very good drinks and food selection! We had just eaten at the blucher but may come in at some point to try the food

After reading the good reviews from others regarding roast dinners, we thought we’d go and check it out ourselves, Did not disappoint- the roast beef was delicious, vegetables beautifully cooked and plenty of gravy.

Pre-match lunch for 4 of us - so we knew it would be busy, but disappointed nonetheless. We were told to order via the QR code on the table (at this point a notice came up on the app saying 30 minutes for food - which seemed realistic). First entered 1 x classic Caesar Salad for £10.95 and then invited to add chicken, prawns or halloumi at extra cost. Then selected 2 x fish and chips ( at which point notice came up saying 45 minutes to order). Finally selected 1 x roast pork and similarly invited to add extras, eg roast potatoes £3.99, gravy £1.99, vegetables £3.99. I had assumed all these would be included with a roast, but no mention of that on the app and, as I'd had to add extras to the Caesar salad, felt I had no choice but to order the extras, as didn't want the timing to go up to an hour. In the end the order took 55 minutes (after enquiring when it would arrive) and the additional potatoes, gravy and veg were completely unnecessary. I feel I was conned into ordering these extras by the app, and was unhappy with the time. The fish was ok but the rest of the food was disappointing too.

We have eaten here many a times and absolutely loved it, however today I wasn't feeling too well so thought we would get a take away roast dinner delivered, definitely won't get a delivery again very small indeed one box only had just 1 roast potato in whilst the rest just had 2 and tasted like they were not home cooked. For us this is a great restaurant to eat in but not for a delivery

Homely pub - crazy DJ on Friday night but it's a good place to go.

Ordered a ribeye steak 😋. Its was properly cook but rested on top of chips leaving them with no crunch and soggy. Peppercorn sauce was very cold and powdery and could definitely be improved on. Sat outside as there was no space inside. They have outdoor heating but only half was working so was quite cold 🥶 so ate as quick as I could as it was becoming cold very quickly.

Great experience having the Xmas Menu. Quality food and lot’s of it. Staff really friendly and attentive and if you like your real ales or ciders this pub is a permanent beer festival!

A once great local pub ruined by select arrogant and rude bar staff. Have experienced personally and overheard abrasive behaviour when people have questioned the freshness of beer, with members of staff being condescending and dismissive of customers. It’s a real shame as you cannot fault the food or the garden in the summer.

I got there solo a little late on a day Harlequins were playing. Easily found a table (bench) for myself and ordered a Roast Lamb Dinner and a pint. Service was quick and the food was nice but a bit on the cool side. Not liking nuked food I did not request reheating and enjoyed the dinner

SEPT 2023 I've rated this pub 5* last year. But since then prices have gone up and quality down. We had a burger, usually one of the highlights. Now, not only more expensive and less quantity of food. But the taste and quality has also declined. It's really sad. Bar staff were more interested in their phones, eating behind the bar and the food took 50 minutes to receive June 2022 review Rarely in London do you feel like you're getting value for your money. This is an exception. We ate lunch here in August and the food was amazing, venue really nice and prices very very reasonable. What ever they're doing here, they're doing it right.

Booked to watch the rugby as advertised on the booking system. Requested a seat in view of the screen for obvious reasons. Other tables in front of us and closer to the screen included groups just out for drinks/ dinner. No real thought was taken...

On paper the Sussex Arms should have it all. There’s a fantastic array of real ale and an interesting selection of cask too. There’s so much potential, but it didn’t quite live up to expectations. The garden was disappointing with kids running riot and parents not really having any control of their children. For such a big garden it was entirely a kid’s playground in that there were no spots to relax. The garden being big is just some green carpet stuff and quite a lazy effort for a space that could be quite nice. A pint of Budvar was £6.10 which was a lot more than when I last visited last year. The glass was pretty filthy too, but I only noticed once I’d drink a decent amount of my pint. By that token one pint was enough. The indoor experience was better on a previous visit and it’s cost in the winter, so there is hope. They just need to try harder here and go for the quick wins. A nice garden and clean glasses when you’re charging a pretty penny isn’t too much to ask. There’s better pubs in the area. I’ll give them another chance in the winter, but not in a hurry to return.

Sunday: There is zero customer service. Please DO NOT bother with the food as two meals were ordered but due to staff error only one was put through so only one meal came. When asked about the second meal it transpired that there was ab error with the order, to which we were offered an expedited roast dinner (this did not sound too appealing) and we did not want to wait any longer as my husband had already finished with his fries, coleslaw and few bites of cold ribs Such a shame as we had hoped that this could be a good place to eat for future

Had a really enjoy evening here. Amazing rang of ale and guys behind the bar were helpful with their suggestions on what to try. The food was good, I had their big burger with bacon and it was very tasty. Hug out door dining area with a playground to to keep the kids entertained. I will be back next time I'm in the area.

Super family pub with a great outside area for the kids to play. Ideal for friends wanting to catch up whilst the kids play. Brilliant kids menu - a good balance with healthy choices. An enjoyable evening had by all.

All in all, a good place for lunch. The Sunday roasts looked amazing, but this burger knocked it out of the park full of flavour and deliciousness.
