We went there a couple of Sundays ago and the sign was saying it was open. Went to open the door to walk in and th girl who worked there (we asked her if she works in the cafe) came out to ask us what are we after ans genuinely was being quite rude about our presence and shut the door in our face which wasn't a nice experience. We come to the cafe a lot in our free time and never experienced anyone being rude to us so we are incredibly disappointed.

A lovely afternoon spent having tea with a friend for her birthday. We had a cosy seating area with a view over the river. The cream tea was really first class with the best scones for a long time. The staff were friendly, attentive; even giving us extra tea only 10 minutes before closing, without drawing attention to this. Thank you for making it a special afternoon for her.

My husband was working near here and I came across this place on my walk. Doesn’t look much from the outside and it is up two flights of stairs but it is worth it. Excellent views and a good selection of sandwiches and cakes. I opted for the soup - spicy sweet potato, which was delicious and a good sized portion. Good atmosphere and full of locals - always a good sign. Staff were lovely and very friendly, calling the regulars by name. They also lent me a phone charger, without which I would definitely have got lost. A real good find and worth a visit.

Working close by we often visit SPH as it’s known, for a coffee and cake break and sometimes even lunch. The view three floors up from the river at Limehouse Reach is worth a visit in its own right dispelling the historical nickname from Royal Navy days of Rats Bay. The staff are friendly and attentive and whoever cooks their Welsh Rarebit creates a superb balance of cheese and mustard. The owner’s Mother creates a mouthwatering selection of home made cakes. The staff are really polite and you are greated with a smile, while the view opens out in front of you through the picture windows with the historic naval quarter of Chatham on the right and Upnor castle in the distance on the left bank.Oh yes, and the cream tea is well worth a try as you watch the world go by on the river. I booked a vegan cream tea for my aunt's birthday present. As I'm not a vegan myself, I was a bit apprehensive about what the cream would be like. But I actually preferred it to a normal cream tea!! The staff were very knowledgeable, we were served by the person who had made the food and he was very happy to share the ingredients with us. I requested a window seat and this was reserved for us. We sat on a lovely chesterfield sofa overlooking the River Medway and we even saw a seal! With views of Rochester Castle and Cathedral in the distance, this really is the best place I've been to in Chatham, a real hidden gem. Now,be warned,if you are disabled,it is not for wheelchair users, but taking it slowly,I managed the four flights of stairs to get there! It was well worth the effort! We were seated on lovely comfy sofas and chairs, with a panoramic view of the river, white swans bobbing on the water were really picture worthy! We were served very quickly with a generous tea pot of tea and after not too long our food arrived. Served on a traditional cake stand, with sandwiches on the bottom, cakes in the middle and scones and cream and jam on top. Your typical afternoon tea! My husband was served with a separate plate of vegetarian sandwiches. My selection, was smoked salmon and cream cheese, chopped ham and mustard, egg and mayonnaise ,in various breads, obviously freshly made, served personally by the chef! The scones were equally fresh and really lovely, and the cakes were coffee and walnut, lemon drizzle, chocolate brownie. Delicious! It was very relaxing, with good friendly service, one could also meander round the copious amount of surprisingly good work! Which made this a very pleasant Sunday afternoon. I booked this on a Groupon and it was good value for money. The location is a bit odd but quite a nice surprise tucked away between Rochester and Chatham. The actual tearoom is on the second floor of a modern building and it's furnished in a shabby chic style which doesn't quite match the building. Unfortunately we were given the worst table in the room as it was right next to the entrance/toilets, which was a bit disappointing as I'd booked it weeks ago. Most of the other tables were right next to the windows so ours was a bit of a let down. There was a good selection of teas and other hot drinks, which were included with the deal but they arrived ages after the sandwiches/cakes were put on the table. There was a choice of three different types of sandwich, some nice warm scones and three types of mini cakes. All were very fresh. The service was pretty lacklustre though. I could really have done with a top-up of my tea, but nobody came and offered or even informed me that it was an option. The food was pretty much dumped on the table and that was that. I got up at the end to buy one of the cards that were on display. There was no price on it and the young guy who'd served us wrote out a price label for the display stand, handed it to me and asked me to go and tie it on there. I was so taken aback I went and did it! I thought it was a bit odd but it seemed to kind of sum up the odd service which was at odds with the food. I would go back but I would ask for a better table next time.

Visited for the first time as my daughter had treated me to an afternoon tea. Was not disappointed. It's a rather strange venue – upstairs is a converted office block, accessed by two flights of stairs. It somewhat lacks atmosphere and is very 'open plan' but is also quirky and furnished with various decent pieces of vintage furniture, but they do seem slightly out of place in such a modern environment. The views are lovely looking out towards the river and Rochester Castle. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the menu selection was varied and reasonably priced. The afternoon tea was lovely - the finger sandwiches were freshly made and the selection of cakes were delicious – in fact the scones were probably the nicest I've eaten in a long while. My only criticism's are minor - there was no skimmed milk available. Although most of the afternoon tea was presented on traditional and very pretty bone china, the tea and coffee was served in bog standard pottery mugs and cups, which somewhat spoilt the effect. However, this is really a hidden gem of a place and definitely well worth a visit.

The 'tea with prosecco' was a groupon offer & I must say the sandwiches, scones & the small pieces of cake were 'A1' - tasted absolutely fresh.Worth a visit if you are not short of time.

As locals we have made it our mission this year to explore more of Medway and support local businesses. This visit to Sun Pier tearooms for afternoon tea was a gift from a (former) Medway relative who thought we`d enjoy the experience. We knew there was a thriving local arts scene, and the tea room is set around an arts studio and gallery with exhibitions by local artists. We had a lovely table, (big leather couches), by the window overlooking the river, the sun was shining, and we had a beautiful view of the Medway, the Cathedral, and little sailing boats. The tea room is quirky, eclectic, with a vintage feel, lots of comfy sofas, mis matched chairs etc. And the books!! If you run out of conversation with your tea partner, then bury your head in one of the hundreds of books, or a game of Tiddlywinks! The tea was lovely, finger sandwiches, little cakes, and a soft fluffy scone. All attractively presented, and served with a smile. If you fancy something a bit different then I would recommend a visit to this little hidden gem in Medway.

Afternoon tea, booked as a birthday surprise by my other half. A cold blustery January day in Chatham brightened considerably by this find. We were 45 minutes early for our booking but that was not a problem. A pot of tea was provided and a table found with amazing views of the Medway including Rochester Castle and Cathedral. Food was lovely, just the right amount for two. Special mention for the scones, some of the best we have ever eaten. The lunch menu displayed on the board sounded very tempting, we will be back to sample very soon. The venue is nicely laid out, very spacious and includes an art gallery and some glass cabinets with smaller works.Staff were very helpful and the service was good.Don't be put off by the exterior which looks a little unappealing, you will be very pleasantly surprised once inside.

We have decided to start alphabet dating so when I got 'A' I knew I had to choose an afternoon tea. The sun pier house came up in my search. Then saw it had an art gallery even better. The atmosphere and furnishings are warm and cosy and very quirky. Then we come to the afternoon tea it was amazing. The sandwiches where great and the cakes to die for so moist and flavoursome. The service was great staff very friendly. Couldn't ask for a better place to go.

From the outside we weren't sure we'd done the right thing booking this place for afternoon tea! But once inside we were definitely converted! The views over the river and the atmosphere in the tea room were perfect. Everything was laid out for comfort, there were books dotted about and games to play if you had children with you, and as for the tea itself, at last we had 'proper' loose leaf tea, perfect! From the range of sandwiches, cakes and the best scones ever the whole afternoon was lovely, and the staff were attentive without being in your face, nothing was too much trouble, we'll be back and probably have some bubbly with our tea next time.

I saw reviews of this tearoom online and after looking at the website and some pictures on tripadvisor decided it would be a lovely place to visit with my family this beautiful sunny Sunday lunchtime - how wrong was I! After we eventually found someone to ask where the entrance was and then climbing 4 flights of stairs with a pushchair we were greeted with a strangely picturesque view of the river Medway. Strangely, although not accessible for wheelchairs and families with pushchairs they do provide high chairs BUT do not provide a children's menu. The range of sandwiches were very limited and so we opted for the welsh 'pigbit' (a take on a Welsh rarebit but with bacon added - as was stated on the menu board). When it arrived I have to say it did look appetising and very impressive but when we tucked into it - a different story. It was smothered in strong English mustard with a large sprinkling of paprika caked on top. Neither of which I was to fussed about but I had a toddler with me who couldn't eat mustard and paprika and so when I questioned it with the lady behind the counter she told me that was how it comes. When I explained about my child and said this isn't what I ordered and there's nothing to say it comes with mustard she said 'well I could do you something else but I'd have to charge'. Which angered me as I wasn't prepared to pay out anymore money because they didn't have the ability to write the ingredients on their board. I pointed out the fact that with the other sandwiches listed it states if it comes with chutney or mustard but it doesn't with the rarebit - so not acceptable really. All she could say was 'that's how it comes' to which my reply was 'well I've never beard of that and if that is the case, I'm not Welsh so I don't know that'. What got my back up was by this time other people had entered the cafe and approached the counter and so were in earshot and the rude lady then said 'it's worth bearing in mind that Welsh rarebit comes with mustard and pepper' to which my reply was 'well it's worth writing it on the board then' and she instantly dismissed me by saying 'thank you', grinning and walking off. Moments later she approached my table and said 'I could do you another one but I'll have to check with my colleague as that's £6.50 worth of food wasted' - well you wasted it by adding stuff to it - so take it out of your wages and don't argue with the customer especially when they have a valid point. Absolutely nasty, rude and arrogant lady who with that attitude will drive custom away! Don't waste your time or money as this experience completely wasted our Sunday.

Visited this tearoom today for afternoon tea, what a wonderful afternoon. The sandwich's of ham, egg and salmon were lovely, wonderful cake and scones. We both ordered coffee (decaffeinated available too)more provided when finished. The view out over the water and the great, friendly staff made for a memorable afternoon, definitely going to return soon.

A family run business like no other in Medway. The atmosphere is full of charm, warmth and friendliness. I eat here regularly with my family and friends and it's the perfect spot for relaxing afternoon. You are never rushed or ushered away from your table, and there's plenty of space for everyone to feel comfortable.

Although a little out of the way, just outside Chatham town centre and next to Staples Superstore, this tearoom is a hidden treasure. The food and drink are excellent, but what makes it really stand out is the double feast for the eyes that it also provides. The views of the river from the tea room's huge windows are stunning, for one thing. And inside, there is always a fascinating exhibition of local art for sale, which changes regularly so one never tires of it. If you fancy a tasty treat in lovely surroundings, this is the place to go. (There is currently no disabled access, but I understand they are working on that.)

We won "Afternoon Tea for Two" at a Charity Raffle and booked in advance. The welcome was most friendly, the best table was reserved for us, the food and the service was just perfect. The weather could have been better but it definitely did not spoil the experience. Well worth a visit and, definitely, strongly recommended.

Sun Pier tearoom do a variety of different types of lovely coffee, served in cafetieres with enough coffee in for two cups so very good value for money. I have not eaten there yet but what I have seen of the food looks delicious. The surroundings are very comfortable too with sofas and old wooden tables and chairs. There is also an art gallery to stroll around.

Discovered this place a while ago and am now a regular.Based just off the high street in an old bank, it is unassuming from the outside, bar a few flowers and an old bike.No disabled access means you have to be prepared to climb stairs to the 2nd floor, so be warned! However, the trip is worth it for the view alone - stretches from Rochester to Upnor overlooking the river. The atmosphere is pleasant, with relaxed and engaging staff and the menu simple but tasty. Cakes are homemade and delicious and they usually stock gluten free and vegan cakes. There is parking, but it's a bit complicated - it's free for visitors to the tea room at the weekends, but not in the week when it's used by local businesses. Intimidating red signs are everywhereWe also regularly go to their evening music events - The Paper Moon in particular is one of the best nights for live music in Medway!Well worth a visit and best enjoyed when you have some time on your hands.

Pub has a great atmosphere. Staff are lovely and there is always someone around to have a good chat to. Lots of live music, a great place for young people and also the older punter. Nice selection of drinks and snacks. Pool table is a great addition, and the garden/courtyard, although small, is a nice little space. The pub dog is great and the ginger girl behind the bar is lovely too.
