A pleasant brief stop over with the grandchildren and my wife. We had a pleasant drink in the garden and were greeted by who I assume was the landlady who made us feel welcome. We will be returning soon for lunch and that's a 70 mile round trip for us so that shows how impressed I was with the changes, inside and out (ongoing), I put on another review after our lunch trip

Just went in for a drink. This 19 th inn in Grain Kent has an oldy worldy style with genuine wood beams throughout. This is a quiet bar, more lively side and also a restaurant area. There is outside seating. The pub has just come under new management and some updates and improvements are under way. Food served is quite varied and price are good value to moderate. They also offer pizzas from £10 with an option to take away. There are toilets and the one I used was clean There is plenty of free parking. The pub was quiet when I went in during the afternoon so I can't speak for how busy it gets. I chatted to the barmaid and feel that better times are to come from this pub. It's near the coastal path which can get busy and is the only pub in Grain.

Fantastic place!!! We received a warm welcome from all the legendary regulars and ate a delicious Sunday roast (£13.95). Went here on the back of reading all the glowing reports on trip advisor and I have to say I am really let down.. I am a lone traveller so it takes a lot for me to walk into a pub on my own and the welcome I got was anything but friendly. I went into the ‘quiet’ side of the pub and waited patiently for the staff to serve me. Having gone in the pub for dinner after a long day travelling I was greeted by a less than happy face Which instantly put me on the back foot! when I asked politely if they were serving food I got a very abrupt ‘no’ with no explanation. I asked why and was told in a very curt and rude manner that there was no chef. With that I turned around and left the pub immediately. I do not think in this day and age there is any excuse for rudeness when all that needed to be said was an apology explaining there was no chef this evening.

Proper historic pub that also does food. 10 miles at least from town. Took first motorcycle ride of the year in that direction now the roads arent covered in salt and the visit to The Hogarth wasnt planned. However, it seemed rude not to stop for a drink. Also the road ends in 400 mtrs ! Despite its village location we were not only warmly greeted by customers but when we realised we were short of money ( unplanned visit, just out for a ride ), a local offered to pay for our drinks ! Never in 40 years has this happened and other pub regulars were really welcoming. We will be back, might even bring some money next time !!

We went here because all of the other Pubs were closed (at lunchtime) and we were not expecting a lot. I tried the "Wild Boar Scotch Egg with Beetroot Salad. It was prepared from fresh ingredients by the Chef, taking about half an hour to prepare but was absolutely delicious and a big surprise to find cooking that good in a pub miles from anywhere. It cost about £5.00. Above and beyond the call of duty and well worth a mention.

Without doubt one of the favorite hotels I stayed during my time in the UK! Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the staff and general manager, our names were mentioned on the board and we were upgraded to the Paradise Suite. The staff was extremely friendly, the restaurant very flexible (appreciate this!) and the restaurant supervisor deserves a special thanks. We had two great evenings here, which obviously also added up to the experience. The second day we did a village trekking. I truly enjoyed walking the three of us through the village. The scenery was beautiful and it was a relieve to walk in such a quiet and peaceful environment. The natural bath on the end was a great way to end the trekking. Note, this is not a 4/5-star hotel or so, but the atmosphere is so special that it really felt like home to me. All respect for the general manager who does a great job here; a true sample of excellent hospitality!

Went for lunch today. Food good - home made pie was large and tasty but too much for my partner as he had just had the camembert for a starter so an apology was hopefully passed to the chef to assure him/her that there was nothing wrong with the cooking! My fish and chips were really good too but couldn't eat the batter not because it wasn't really tasty just that the diet won't allow it. Staff very polite and friendly and finally my standard for any establishment is the ladies loos. Spotlessly clean and therefore a good indicator of the high standards set by the owners.
