Absolutely love this place. Such a great ambience. Feels a little quirky but also rustic. Very cosy. Is a little pricey but food is lovely.

Had a Birthday Lunch here today. Absolutely gorgeous. The staff are pleasant and the food is awesome. I would like to revisit to try the Breakfast Menu and also the evening menu. I would highly recommend a visit.

Very busy place. Food was amazing of what we had. Vegan cheese and tomato with basil on sourdough toastie. Coffee cups can be nicer :) The decaffeinated coffee was weak so be sure to ask for extra shot. Gorgeous fireplace makes the atmosphere cosy on a cold Sunday morning 🌄

Amazing food and beautiful boutique place to eat. Just a shame that our booking was refused desert as the kitchen had shut at 10.20 even though our mains were held up and not cleared by staff, we couldn’t of eaten any faster. I do feel if you’ve offered a booking at 8.30pm it must be made clear at time of booking that all courses must be ordered before a certain time. This was a special birthday celebration and once in a blue moon opportunity to escape the kids which was a real shame as we were really looking forward to our sticky toffee puddings. Praise to the waitress who did mock up a couple of cheese boards even though these weren’t on offer either due to the kitchen closing. This was a Saturday night.

Fantastic atmosphere, very old, very quaint, realistic prices. You got so much food on the cheese board, couldn't eat it all. Bread was fresh from baked loaves, waitresses were so polite and didn't keep bothering you all of the time, which I hate. Will definitely be going there again.

We have only visited twice. Once in mid summer and once in mid winter. Both experiences were great. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They work hard and give you good customer service without getting in your face. We had the cheese and charcuterie boards both times. There was a good selection of meats, cheeses and breads. being a Devonian, I had to have butter for my bread and that was delicious. If you are in Rochester, you must visit the castle, the cathedral and the Cheese Room.

I love this place. They’re just doing it right. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, most often knowledgable about the menu and very helpful. Menu is well thought out and inventive, clearly designed by a good chef and executed well. Never had a bad meal here. I particularly enjoy that the menu is quite inventive and we always end up trying loads of small plates.

One of my favourite places. Excellent food and cocktails. Very good staff. Cosy atmosphere. What more could you want?!

A real stinker. Bored rude kids are serving food. 45 minutes to get served. Food was really really poor quality. Mum had charcuterie board bread and products stale. 2pm Sunday.

We were sat at a table next to a noisy road. Cars we driving by at no more than a feet away. We were told we could only order Toasties, Sides or Broads. Really almost nothing to choose from. Food was Allright but very expensive. Not a good experience at all

Really lovely Reubins Toastie. Ive not had a Salt Beef with pickles sandwich since New York. This was absolutely yummy! Very nice service too. Sat outside & watcged the world go by. Its a popular place.

Popped in for coffee but also had the sourdough toast with butter and marmalade. Absolutely delicious. I was able to sit outside and eat it. The staff were friendly and helpful.

First time visit today, decided to stop by this gorgeous place as from the outside looked quaint and pretty. When inside wow the place is beautiful. Old wood and the atmosphere feels so luxurious. The service is outstanding although so busy staff were smiling polite and really seemed to enjoy working , I know from experience this isn’t always the case, but the staff really gave off happy vibes. Then the food came and my goodness from presentation to taste every mouthful was out of this world. I’m not one for writing reviews but felt I honestly needed to share this gem of a place. If you’re passing you definitely need to check this place out. We will be back soon 😀

I’d like to tell you more about here than the cheese toasties but the problem is that they are so good I always choose them. There’s the original, the blue and pear and the three cheeses. The latter is best value but all are delicious. They are made with sourdough bread and you get three sandwiches in total. I haven’t tasted better. The coffee is good too. The staff are lovely, they take your order at the table and its fog friendly.

We came to Rochester to visit the Castle and Cathedral and stopped here for a bite to eat. We sat outside as it was a sunny day and shared a sourdough toastie, some chunky chips and some aubergine chips. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly.

I have dined here a few times now as it is one of my favourite places since discovering it a year ago. Absolutely love the old charm feeling of the building and always a pleasure speaking with the staff who go above and beyond to fullfil your requirements. I've taken a couple of friends and my partner previously and everybody loves this place. Well done to the staff, you guys absolutely smashed it every time I visit.

me and a friend stopped here for a catch up over a cup of coffee. but the atmosphere as well as the service were so long belt that we stayed for both lunch and drinks too. A lovely place to sit outside in the setting summer sun. Close to the castle, Rochester Cathedral and so many other historical buildings, many connected to Charles Dickens.

We both had a ploughman’s the roll was delicious the tiny price of cheese was tasty but picked onions mini gherkins brown pickle and picketed cabbage was far to much for a slice of ham and tiny cheese went home hungry Staff were lovely

Food and Atmosphere on point I'll be coming back here again 🙌🏻

I found this place really disappointing. Took my partner here for his birthday but actually I should have bought the cheeses from the shop and made a board at home. I love all the bits you have with cheese…chutneys grapes apple nuts celery whatever, but this came with a teaspoon of raisin chutney 5 crackers and loads of dry dry bread. Didn’t enjoy it at all I’ve never seen a cheese board with no grapes!

Disappointed. Went there for a brunch and you felt you were just sized up for a tip. Surly young waitresses who believe their only mission is to make as much money through tips as possible. Could you look anymore bored? The elder waitresses were on point and pleased to help with dining choices, options or just a chat. The youngsters were wanting a £50.00 tip for bringing a cheese sandwich along. Please don't give me nonsense about how poorly paid waitresses are. They are ALL on minimum wage but I've yet to go into a boutique or shop along the highstreet where the staff demand proof a very good tip before they deign to serve you. I'll go there again with some guests in the next few weeks because it is a nice, quirky little place with an individualism which is refreshing but please get rid of the waitresses looking for tips. They mutter under their breathe, roll their eyes and think they're owed a living. If one particular one does it again I'll never return.

Cracking place which does as the same suggests amazing cheese and meat boards. Split into a restaurant with a little bar at the front the place has a cracking selection of beer, local wine and spirits. The menu is great with something for everybody. Suggest booking if you can as it gets very busy

Had a lovely lunch here yesterday, nothing to complain about, best macaroni cheese I've had, cheese croquettes amazing. Three of us ate here and we all enjoyed our meals and coffees. Would definitely return and recommend.

What a wonderful lunch we had today. Michelle, our waitress, was so attentive and friendly. She Really made our birthday lunch special. She also helped us choose what to have as it was our first time. The food was amazing. So tasty and well presented. Looking forward to our next visit.

My husband and I came down for breakfast this morning and found the staff lovely and friendly. The young lad that served us our coffee was very warm and welcoming. The food was wonderful and the atmosphere amazing. I ordered the scrambled eggs on sourdough and salmon with sweet chutney on the side. The meal was delish. Will defo try coming back but for dinner this time x

Wonderful interior. Great coffees and cake. The waitress, originally from South Africa was very friendly. My only gripe was that I didn’t stay in Rochester long enough to have lunch or dinner. Will be back.

Been to this location many times over the years in its different forms. Its latest theme, basically cheese based food, is excellent. Great food, good atmosphere in historic surroundings and very efficient service.

First time in the botanicals usually fully booked. Wow. Now we know why. The deli down the road is excellent but this is another level and a great place to sit with the fire on. Some excellent options to choose from including their classic toasties! Vast range of drinks! Attentive service. Sadly non-accessible due to the building being so old.

Lovely place to pop in past after an afternoon walk. Started with the English cheese board with bread, crackers and chutney. Lovely, just can't wait to go on to try the French one next. Choice of wines was excellent, great service from the staff.

This place never disappoints, the gin menu is truly something to sing about and their cocktails are awesome! Plus the toasties are so good my lactose intolerance can't keep me away lol!! Always friendly service and if it's a sunny day, make sure you bring some sunnies and sit outside for the best view of the big tree, castle and cathedral - immaculate vibes <3

Not friendly never visit again!

There is a fireplace on the ground floor! The restaurant is so cosy and nice, you don't want to leave! It has a little outside garden and the first floor too. Wide range of alcoholic beverages, cocktails and gins. Food is delicious, however portions are tiny.

The nicest waitress! (Didn’t catch her name - she is blond-haired and served us upstairs today.) She was so welcoming and when we finished, told us about the Coopers Arms - the oldest pub in Kent - so that we could enjoy a proper pub pint on St Patrick’s Day later after we toured the castle and cathedral. She came out in the rain, cheerful as can be, and pointed us in the right direction. Made our day! Rochester is lucky to have her as an ambassador!

I've walked past this place a hundred times and occasionally popped in to have a look inside but its always been busy - a good sign that. Well, today my mum, sister and I bagged a table and had lunch which we all very much enjoyed. The menu isn't huge but that's a good thing because it still took us all ages to decide what cheesy goodies to go for. I had the blue cheese, pear and walnut sourdough toastie which was delicious as was my coffee. The staff were also lovely and polite. A reasonable bill at the end too so we'll all be back soon hopefully.

Another super brunch experience at The Cheese Room. The cheesiest delights, a range of amazing sandwiches, breads and fillings and you can take it all home with a shop from their deli! Such helpful and friendly staff, there’s a good reason why they’re always so busy. But with 3 eating areas, you’re never left waiting.

Lovely place to go, make sure you make a booking at popular times as it gets busy and you can't guarantee getting a space if just turn up. Great staff, great drinks and atmosphere. Haven't managed to book to eat there yet so can't comment on food but it all smelt and looked lovely, can't wait to try.

Have been here for lunch and dinner a few times now and I won’t stop going back! The food is delicious and the service is always super friendly. They also have a brilliant selection of beers and stouts (as well as the gins!) that you wouldn’t find everywhere else. Love it!

Randomly stumbled across here for lunch before visiting the castle and cathedral . The cakes on display by the window attracted me to eat here ! But I didn’t even end up buying their cakes haha. I ordered the : Classic with tea! The toasties was nice, thick and crunchy and filling and wasn’t dry. It came as 3 pieces which which I was not expecting so it was a good value !

Was expecting so much more. Cocktails were average. Passion fruit martini was terrible. Full of juice. No flavour. Bread was stale. Service was slow and staff uninterested. Really disappointed. Given previous reviews I was surprised. Cheese was really nice. Wouldn't return.

Previously enjoyed and frequented but most recent visit exposed how unfriendly the staff and management can be - all of a sudden they are no dog friendly but the way this was advised by the staff was pretty shocking and unfriendly - plenty more better value and friendly places in town. Avoid.
