Been back after 3 years for refreshing my memories me and partner had here. So in love with the building and atmosphere it is creating. We had cheese boards and while i was enjoying taking some photos of outside my partner was enjoying all the cheese boards inside 😂. I like to sit out and enjoy to capture daily life of people and beautiful & historical town. Btw lovely staff as usual, delicious food and amazing atmosphere. Just had last bits of cheese and move on. Next time i’ll eat first and then get photos 😅

Came for mother’s day, received wonderful service. The staff were very accommodating, helpful and overall wonderful! Loved our visit to the cheese room botanicals and cannot recommend this place enough. Food came super quickly even though it was busy and was very tasty. The entire menu has lots of variety, something for everyone.

Very disappointed with food and service for Mothers Day. Reserved table for some time, 3 of our party were late as stuck in traffic, arrived at 11.20 was told could still have a breakfast as reserved table, failed to provide breakfast menu until 11.30am then told very abrasively too late, now had to choose from lunch menu. The first 3 of us to arrive had English breakfast which was swimming in oil and mushrooms tasted like bacon. Limited lunch choices, so latter 3 just had a drink. Left my balloon from my daughter and not told by staff even though took a couple of minutes to get out of premises due to so many people waiting. No thought about Mothers Day, 4 of us are mothers, Will not be giing to The Cheese Room again. First and last time

Booked this venue as it was recommended. It was Mother’s Day and was meeting relatives. Due to my relatives being 15 minutes late, we were told that we could not book the breakfast which we had been looking forward to. They could have been more accommodating considering it was a special day for us mothers. The attitude of a member of staff was not friendly and quite abrasive. We will not be returning again.

It's an ok place. The food is tapas style. Something that I don't usually like but was actually served nicely. A couple of things I didn't like. - the shrimp I ordered as an appetiser wasn't shrimp. What arrived were some small gritty, probably frozen prawns swimming in warm oil, if you are going to call Something shrimp, ensure it is as described. Had I not been on a date night I would have sent these back. - each dish seemed very over seasoned. You need to go easy with the salt ! On the plus side the drinks selection is good and the service is fairly quick. Overall a reasonable experience. I would return, but not anytime soon as I feel there are lots of better options locally

Was looking forward to a Cream Cheese and Salmon bagel today. But, because I was told (after the food was prepared) that I couldn't pay in cash . "Sorry we haven't any change" What ??? Not everyone pays by card and today cash was my only option not having a card with me. Cash is still valid and management should ensure that they have enough change and also enough staff to cope with the volume of customers. I'm pretty sure I would not have been the only person today who came away dissapointed. Rochester was packed with visitors and, it was only 11am !!!!

We came today for a lunch that I had booked in advance online. Firstly we were sat at a table at the bottom of the stairs which was like the M25. My friend, who had arrived before me, had to ask that we be moved to somewhere a bit quieter as we had planned to stay for lunch, dessert, etc, not just for a coffee. It too two requests to be moved to a decent table. The food was great, the waitress service was great. So my only complaint is that if I’ve booked in advance, seat us somewhere decent. I booked this a week in advance. We spent £60 between us, not a small amount.

I visited Rochester and I fell in love with this beautiful town. A lot of vintage shops on the high street. I made the right choice to take lunch. The restaurant is warm and inviting atmosphere. I ate a yummy onion and bacon soup with sodourg bread and for the main crispy Pork belly with red cabbage. On my side was a couple and she was eating Meat Balls that looked delicious but unfortunately they didn't have more so I got pork belly. I will be back again and I will try it! Good portions, the pork was perfection and it even came with crackling which some establishments seem to remove for some unknown reason. The vegetables were fantastic too. Almost as good as being at Topes! My favourite restaurant of all time. If you know, you know. 🙂 My friend had a toastie and chips which she also said was delicious but she was also jealous of my belly pork, so we are going to go back soon. Thanks Julie, Chris and team.

First time visiting The Cheese Room and it did not disappoint. The menu was a set one 2 course £27 or 3 courses for £34. You could also choose toasted sandwiches and lighter lunches. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating. We were able to settle down and browse the menu without being interrupted. We had the 2 courses and had Beef Roast with Yorkshire pudding and amazing potaotes, veg was carrots, parsnip, beetroot and squash all roasted. We also ordered cauliflower cheese which is £6 for 2 people. It was lovely to have cauliflower that was cooked and not raw. The pudding we had was out of this world and couldn't fault anything, we had the cheesecake. It was more on the expensive side than i would usually pay, but it was so worth it. Service charge of 10% is automatically added and this is advertised on their website. Was a lovely experience but would recommend booking.

Being a cheese lover myself I was excited to visit this place. The Cheese Room, located near Rochester Castle, is a charming restaurant specializing in all things cheese. The venue is in an old building with both indoor and outdoor seating, which adds to its character. We opted to sit outside, but the tables are a bit small, especially since the plates are quite large. The menu offers a great variety of cheeses, and we enjoyed the British Cheese Board and I tried the pesto sourdough sandwich. The food was good, but the service could have been more organized. It took a while to receive the menu, and when it came time to pay, we ended up going to the bar as we were in a hurry. The ladies' toilet, while clean, is quite small and a bit tricky to find. Overall, despite a few minor issues, we had a lovely time and would recommend it for cheese lovers!

I wouldn’t recommend if you’re expecting for staff not to be surprised if there’s more than one baby in a single party. Way too worried about having the prams in an area where someone *might* sit; instead of you, the customer already booked and sitting down. If they’d have had the customers, we could have worked something out. A bit overpriced for five small lumps of cheese and french toast. I can see the appeal of the surroundings. The building is lovely. I think that’s what the owners are relying on to get the punters in. Prob wouldn’t worry myself with a future visit. Ole Rochester down the same strip however…I’d be there in a flash.

I can see why this appeal but scratch the surface and it’s a typical over priced tourist trap with poor service and money saving ingredients on the menu that just means it isn’t what it should be or reputed to be. Part baked baguette have no place in any commercial kitchen especially one which claims artisan sourdough. As for the service on what was a very quiet day, early season it left much to be desired. Sadly disappointed as per review.

Disappointed - we had booked a table for 14:30 on a Saturday. Unfortunately our 3 month old baby had his jabs the day before and was unwell. I thought I had cancelled the table online but it hadn't gone through. Next day I was charged £20 - if it was a table of 6 I would understand but there was two of us and it's a Saturday, one of the busiest days of the week for a restaurant and they would have covered the table. I did call and email to explain that I thought I had cancelled and my baby was poorly but I got no response. Appreciate small businesses need to make money but do not appreciate them happily taking your money before you walk through the door. Won't be going back.

This place is to die for, however I do have a complaint that I wanted to avoid saying but I unfortunately have to. Firstly, the food is out of this world. The raclette potatoes are genuinely one of the nicest foods I have ever eaten. I've not stopped thinking about it since. Our sandwiches were so tasty and I'm really excited to come back to Rochester so we can visit again. Now for the staff. Firstly, your man Ragnars (I hope I spelled that right) needs a raise. He started his shift after we sat down and that guy did not stop moving. Cleaning tables, serving food, asking customers if they need anything etc. This was unfortunately brought down by your young staff member who I believe is called Julie. That's the name that was on the receipt but I might not have the right name. I really didn't want to name and shame and I've been sitting on this review for almost 2 weeks but something has to be said because it changed the atmosphere, as well as our frustrations. In the 45 minutes we were in the restaurant, I watched her perform about 3 tasks and one of them was bringing the bill to our table. The rest of the time she stood by the bar and didn't move, mostly talking to the other girl behind the bar who was on her phone. And it's not like there wasn't anything to do, it was a full restaurant. I was in hospitality for 5 years and it drove me crazy watching this when we wanted extra drinks and couldn't catch anybody's eye despite her being right in front of us. Ragnars came to our rescue. I don't know if she's new, or doesn't get paid enough, but something needs to be said. Sorry.

She held the toastie ransom as she went back into the store to check the order was for me. Did she do this because I don’t look like the usually demographic that would get a toastie from the store? Because of this I won’t be going back again, she made me feel really uncomfortable like I was trying to con them out of a £6 toastie.

Amazing food and beautiful boutique place to eat. Just a shame that our booking was refused desert as the kitchen had shut at 10.20 even though our mains were held up and not cleared by staff, we couldn’t of eaten any faster. I do feel if you’ve offered a booking at 8.30pm it must be made clear at time of booking that all courses must be ordered before a certain time. This was a special birthday celebration and once in a blue moon opportunity to escape the kids which was a real shame as we were really looking forward to our sticky toffee puddings. Praise to the waitress who did mock up a couple of cheese boards even though these weren’t on offer either due to the kitchen closing. This was a Saturday night.

Came here by chance on Bank Holiday Weekend Sunday. Very friendly staff including Mother & Daughter behind the bar. Even though we had no booking they sat us down for lunch. We both had the Lamb Sunday Roast with Pigs in Blankets and Cauliflower Cheese on the side. Food came within 10 minutes of ordering and was hot and extremely tasty. For dessert we had cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. Quite possibly the best toffee pudding I’ve ever had which even had small soft caramel chucks sprinkled on top. The atmosphere was very nice, decor very quaint and warm with generous amounts of parking beside the pub. With alcoholic drinks the bill came to about £60 for 2 people. A steal for how delicious everything was and portion sizes provided. Will definitely come here again. Thank you for your hospitality. It was 1st class.

Whether it’s a light snack, afternoon tea or something more substantial, you can’t beat Nutmegs. Delicious food, helpful staff and nothing is too much trouble when it comes to catering to dietary requirements.

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at The Moat House Coffee Shop. They advertise themselves as child-friendly, but my toddler and I were made to feel anything but welcome. Despite the inevitable mess that comes with young children, which I was actively cleaning up, staff approached me and asked us to leave because my child was “too messy.” This was not only embarrassing but also contradicted their supposed family-friendly ethos. If you’re a parent looking for a welcoming space, I’d recommend going elsewhere. A truly child-friendly establishment should show patience and understanding, not intolerance.
