Based on the reviews on here, my wife and I made a trip to this pub for beer and food only to find the car park blocked by concrete blocks. The pub appears closed and there’s a sign asking for new tenants so we’re assuming it’s temporarily closed.

Arrived at the Sun Inn where I had reserved a table to celebrate my husbands Birthday. We had a table in the bay window by one of the two roaring fires. The food was excellent and our little dog was able to join us. The place was spotlessly clean and decor and furnishings amazing. Lots of references to the battle of Marston Moor, Oliver Cromwell and the Fairfax family. Very interesting. Can't wait for my next visit.

A reasonable village pub. Beer is well kept and, being a Sam Smith's pub, cheap. Great for a quiet pint or two on a Sunday afternoon.

We stayed in the village of Long Marston and visited The Sun Inn several times during our stay. The food was standard pub food, I don't mean this in a bad way, but just that it isn't a gastro-pub - just good quality food, well cooked and presented. Just what we wanted. The Cumberland Sausage with mash and peas was great as was the locally sourced honeycomb ice cream for afters. Very near the site of the Civil War battle of Marston Moor, the Sun Inn is full of pictures and memorabilia about the battle. We spent some time just looking at everything packed in there. Very welcoming and friendly, with a large outdoors area for good weather, we recommend it.

On passing noticed the pub had reopened so popped in for a drink. Absolutely spotless, decor is charming, friendly welcome and £5.50 for a G&T and lager! Based on a positive initial impression we decided to try the food. Ordered Steak & ale pie and a liver & onions topped with bacon. Both meals presented very well, veg cooked to perfection, piping hot and overall very tasty. Fantastic sunny evening so ate in the large and tidy beer garden. Spent a lovely evening in the sunshine with lovely food service, so will definitely be back.

Fine for a drink but would not recommend sunday dinner. Veg was cold. Gravy looked like dirty water. Stuffing rock hard as was yorkshire pudding. I assume food was out of packets thoough advertised as home cooked. The young staff have a lot to learn about cooking and customer service.

We went for my grandson 7th birthday family celebration. We knew in advance there would only be Sunday lunch available but this wasn't a problem as there three options of meat to choose from an good selection of Vegatables, and there was a vegetarian option. A little disappointed in the food, Gammon , and beef were lovely but Roadt potatoes were tiny and over cooked. There were Broccoli, carrots, red cabbage ,and Madhed potatoe but these were not very hot and had been overlooked. Portions sizes are small but reflected in the price. This having said the Yorkshire puddings were very big. Nice selection of desserts. Sticky toffe pudding, Apple and blackberry crumble, served with custard or ice cream, there was also honeycomb ice cream on offer. The prices for both food and drink are very affordable which is a pleasant surprise in such a charming place. The staff were amazing very pleasant and nothing too much trouble to accommodate our two young grandchildrens request. Would love to visit again when next gusting our family in York would like to try mid week to see what other food options are in offer.

We booked a table to have Sunday lunch for Mother’s Day. On arrival the woman behind the bar greeted us with the words ‘we’ve shoved you round there! ‘ Not welcoming at all. The food was appalling, all the carrots and broccoli was purple due to been cooked with the red cabbage, we got one slice of meat each, which was same as the children’s portions. The gravy and Yorkshire pudding was very greasy. They didn’t ask it the food was ok and they cleared the table without asking if we’ve finished. A very horrible meal and would not recommend!

I am pleased that this pub has reopened. Oddly, it had been refurbed and then closed. Anyway, it's open again. The decor - quite rightly - makes much of the battle which took place just down the road. Although I haven't eaten here, I understand they do pub food and Sunday roasts. The beer being Sam Smiths is good value and is well kept. If you are in the York / Wetherby area then give it a visit.

We stayed in Long Marston during a recent trip to England, and we were so happy that The Sun Inn reopened in time for our visit! It had been closed for a while (changed hands and was remodeled, I think), and by the time of our visit was open again, serving drinks only-- mostly beer. The bartender told us that they were planning on starting food service after Christmas.

Finally dropped in after passing many times from Day/Night Drives in and around the area to find it under New Management. Adrian and Dot have this place turned completely around. The Food, atmosphere and hospitality is A+ and after frequent Dinings, I couldn't think of any other traditional country Pub to take the whole family.

We have been using this local pub much more since the tankard has been closed. The service and friendliness that we have received has been outstanding. Adrian is the perfect host and is always happy to engage in conversation about many subjects. A true candidate for a landlord if ever there was one. The food is also superb and all home cooked. I can highly recommend this pub and since the new owners took over, they have turned it around. Well done.

Since the refurb this lovely little pub has been given a new lease of life whilst keeping the the feel and the history of the Sun Inn and the battle of marston Moor. Really friendly and welcoming landlord and landlady, plus the food is fantastic and very reasonably priced, so good we went back for Sunday dinner the same week (certainly weren't disappointed once again) will be back frequently I'm sure! So nice that you can stand at the bar without feeling uncomfortable from people on the dirty old bench glaring at you!

The pub has recently been renovated throughout and has a much nicer decor and atmosphere, focussing on the history of the village. The new management team are very welcoming. I brought my two daughters and niece for a dinner and the food was lovely, proper honest Yorkshire quality. The pies are great, perfect match for the OBB beers and the service very good with and correct prices.

This is a lovely, quite large, Sam Smith's pub located about halfway between Wetherby and York. The beers are well kept and I recommend the Old Brewery Bitter which, being a Sam's pub, retails at less than £2 a pint. This pub is worth visiting to see the portraits of protagonists from the civil war (the decisive battle of Marston Moor took place nearby) and there is also a helmet (replica?) on display. The pub does food and there is a fair sized garden to the rear. The staff are friendly and welcoming. You can also buy books in the lounge.

We stumble on this quant little country pub on a wet British weekend while we visiting the area. The pub could not have been more welcoming & it was really cosy sat in the window by the fire. The landlady/staff were fantastically friendly and really made you feel welcome. The food was great and the menu choice was good. I had the large hot dog and my wife had the chicken pie and it was fantastic and really hit the spot. We would certainly come back and will probably come specifically to eat here next time.

Paul and Amanda always welcoming, football or sport of some sort usually on around the weekend, beer good and not expensive for Harrogate. Food is now available! A variety of pies, scotch eggs and sausage rolls are available. Quality is excellent and with mushy peas or beans and gravy it's ideal accompanying a good pint.
