Great food, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Homemade food really hit the spot after a long day walking and they even welcome dogs in their dining area! The lady behind the bar is lovely and stopped for a chat as I was checking out the lovely, quaint little pub. The food is amazing and homemade, especially the specials! Really delicious. Not far off the main road from Ambleside and Windermere. We will definitely be back! The desserts are a must!

A group of five, we booked a table for 7.45pm on a Saturday evening. We arrived at 7.40pm and were taken to our table. After a few minutes the young server came over and asked for our drinks order as the place is still doing table service for drinks then returned a few minutes later for our food order. We hadn’t even looked at the menu at that point. The young lady quickly returned and snapped that the kitchen closes at 8pm. We very quickly looked at the menu whilst she waited for our order. We ordered a sharing nachos for two and two lots of mushrooms. Then ordered five steaks (dearest thing on the menu) to make things easy. We asked for peppercorn sauce to which she said they hadn’t any, and quickly walked away so we called her back to ask for an alternative to the peppercorn she snapped that they are under the sides on the menu. We order three steaks with garlic butter and two plain and off she popped. She returned very quickly to say that they only had three steaks so we ordered two lamb shanks and cancelled one of the garlic butter. The starters arrived, the mushrooms were fine but the nachos, well I’ve never seen anything like them before. There were very few nachos and what was there was completely drowned in salsa, and lots of cheese on top. The mains arrived, the steaks were fine as were the lamb shanks but the garlic butter never arrived, I can only assume that she cancelled all three portions. We ate our mains and the young lady cleared our table. We were never offered a sweet menu, can only assume that the chef had gone home and we were not even asked if we wanted anymore drinks. I am afraid we won’t be returning any time soon.

Went for evening meal and the place was full. Was told 3 times by the landlady that she would come and take our order before she did. I had lasagne with an extra order of chips. The write up in the menu read well, but the actual food didn't compare. "Layers of green pasta in ragu and bechamel sauce" It came with one layer of pasta, no bechamel sauce but with cheese on top instead and was tasteless. Large portions but of low quality. As for the chips , despite 2 reminders they didn't arrive until half way through the meal. The reviews for this place are amazing. It would seem once again people rate quantity over quality. Would not recommend.

We were served delicious food with excellent service. Really friendly staff in nice surroundings. We stayed in the car park with our motorhome using the Britstops scheme which the pub is a member of. Would happily eat here again and can highly recommend.

Our first visit, and what a Gem 💍 we've found. Quite by chance we stopped for a drink and then returned to eat after booking online (Really easy, and Pauline the landlady responded really quickly). The Lamb Shank was Amazing!! lovely rich gravy, tender kale & peas beautifully cooked, soft creamed mash, and then followed by the homemade crumble with cream, we couldn't move for 20mins after that 😄.. Lovely staff, very attentive, you really must not miss an opportunity to eat here.. Relaxed atmosphere, Even in these COVID times.

My fiance and I were on our way back home in Kendal after a weekend away and decided to stop in at a pub for tea. Someone at work had recommended The Sun Inn a while ago and, going past, we decided to give it a try. Luckily there was space for us last minute. We had a really nice meal - my fiance had the lamb shank which was cooked perfectly and was very meaty, and I had the special curry which was a beef madras. It was loaded with big chunks of tender beef in a delicious, spicy, thick sauce. We were both very impressed. It was too tempting not to have to dessert, so we both had the apple and rhubarb crumble with custard - sweet and tasty. Totally recommend, and we will definitely visit again.

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.

Well I won't be going back ,the food was awful ...the tomato ,basil and pesto soup had a horrible sharp but sugary sweet taste...the sandwich that came with it had the cheapest bright yellow " butter "on. ,a maximum of one slice of ham and the cheapest mustard . My 4 year old grandson could have made a better sandwich ! My husband had pie which had hardly any meat in it and the gravy was unusual tasting ( to say the least ) and sweet . I've had far superior microwave meals ! The toilets which were always an asset to the pub had gone downhill too.

My husband and I were staying at the nearby county hotel and decided to call in for a coffee on the way into the shopping area. The coffee was great and the millionaires slice was lovely. Service was very good.
