I do not normally bother writing reviews but after our visit last Sunday I thought it was needed. Food We visited for Sunday lunch and was not disappointed! Good portions, really tasty, fresh and crispy roast potatoes. Roast chicken £15 , beef £16 and lamb £17. We also had a side of cauliflower cheese I think that was £5 Was fresh and homemade. I feel it was really good value for our money and will return. Had a nice selection of homemade desserts and cakes. We had a brownie this too was delicious. Drinks Good selection of spirits, beers etc. Lovely defo and beautiful beer garden. We was honestly very pleasantly surprised and will return again soon.

The pub itself is lovely and the staff seem nice too but the over pricing of the food was not ok. I am happy to pay £20 for a decent roast dinner but this one was underwhelming and felt no better than a shop brought micro meal (also small portion) and both of us left hungry after paying £40 between us. Very disapointing.

The Sun has changed back to being a pub. So check opening times before you go. Great atmosphere. Really good beers and so far we have tried two of the pop up food nights and they have both been really good.

Lovely little pub on a quiet street run by a very friendly staff. I had the veggie burger and my wife had the fish & chips. Both were excellent and reasonably priced. We will be back!

Booked a fantastic air BnB attached to the Sun Cafe and bar for a weekend exploring the city of Oxford. Having made great use of the park and ride at Thornhill to get in and out of the city , we decided to give the bar a try . Upon entry , the place was buzzing with drinkers and diners. The food coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic so we asked about getting a table and after a short wait and a nice pint we were seated in a lush corner of the dining area. The decor was subtle but caught the eye and the menu was a delight. The meals came out promptly , the service was impeccable and the food was delicious. Mains and deserts were enjoyed along with Gin , Ales , cocktails and coffee's. The bill was very reasonable and a great evening was had , So much so that we had breakfast there the following morning and again were most impressed.

Just had a family Sunday Roast at the Sun Cafe & Bar. Exceptional. I had the beef, which was amazing. 2 of us had the Lamb (had a small taste of that and it was also very good) and 1 had Turkey. Didn't get a go at the Turkey, so it must have been good! Cheesy Leek was lovely, and the Roast potatoes rather special. Couldn't eat all the veg, but it was nice and crunchy. We also had the Sticky Toffee pudding to cap it all - wonderfully light sponge and a delightful Dark Treacle sauce. Service great and the food was served quickly. Highly recommended and we will be back........

Dinner was so good that we went twice in the week that we were visiting. The first night we had the small plates and shared. Even though they are small plates, there is plenty of food. The variety of food and flavors was great. The curry was exceptional. The second time we went we had individual meals that were amazing. They have some very interesting and delicious cocktails as well.We ate outside which has a very nice atmosphere but the inside is just as lovely. We thought the price point was very reasonable- quite inexpensive for the amount and quality. This is a real gem and we highly recommend it.

So glad we found this little gem. On arrival the greeting was warm and friendly, we sat outside and it’s a lovely atmosphere. Service was great and the food was amazing. We had the breakfast each and every element was cooked perfectly. The coffee was lovely and I’m very fussy with coffee! Would really recommend and I wish we weren’t a 4 hour drive away!

Went here today for lunch and it was so good. This is a beautiful venue, inside and out and the food was delicious. The staff were really friendly and attentive. Would really recommend this place and their veg coconut curry.

Lunch at the Sun today was a very enjoyable experience. Both the lamb & slow roasted pork belly were delicious. Plenty of vegetables and a very rich gravy. there was not scrap on any of our plates at the end of the meal. This was followed by an utterly scrumptious sticky toffee pudding. We all felt very comfortable in the restaurant. Staff were very friendly and the service was great.

Wow! I had an hour to kill so popped in for lunch in the garden.... what a find! Beautiful building & garden / patio, super-friendly & welcoming team and exceptional food. Wheatley is very lucky to have such a fantastic asset! I’ll be back very soon.

Picked this based on the TripAdvisor reviews for Sunday lunch whilst visiting our Son at University. What a find and honest reviews. Sunday roasts super tasty and great vegetable medly. Would certainly recommend. Outdoor seating currently with good spacing, indoor looks good also. Staff were friendly, chatty and attentive with timely service. Some good touches as well, Blankets available, help yourself to bottled water. Oh and spare spectacles should you forget yours, would normally call them. Glasses but a bar without glasses would be a let down.

This was our first time out since Covid restrictions have been relaxed and also out first time to the Sun Cafe & Bar. We loved it! The staff were so, so friendly and the food was fab.The menu is fairly limited but everything we had was delicious. It is particularly good for vegetarians as several options available. They have utilised the outside space well with an awning, heaters & even blankets & hot water bottles if needed. It’s even dog friendly too! I would highly recommend - we’re already talking about going back to try their Sunday roast.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed a superb breakfast here this morning. The food was outstanding - the best breakfast I have had for a long time! Very good coffee too. Highly recommend. Tables well-spaced and all staff wearing visors in these strange times.

The sad old Sun Inn has been transformed by Hollie, Jenny and Gary into a chic cafe, bar and restaurant. The menu is limited (who needs all that choice?) but well-chosen, delicious and beautifully presented. Lovely ambiance both inside and and in the beautiful garden...

We have been here a few times for lunch now - always to a very good standard and generous portions. Lovely puddings and cakes too. The staff are attentive and friendly. Definitely worth a visit. We will be back again soon.

been here twice now, and on both occasions had very tasty meals we had beef which was tender and tasty, also we had the turkey and the pork which also where cooked just right, the mixed vegetables , came on a sperate plater with cheese...

I can honestly say that I haven’t enjoyed food so much in a long time! Thank you to the Head Chef! The Scotch eggs were delicious! And the sticky toffee pudding as well. The lady who runs the Sun who if I remember correctly is called Hollie, was so lovely and professional at the same time. The young lady waitress was also very polite and attentive. The Decor is clean and comfortable. A real great place to relax, eat and drink. We will certainly be rebooking soon, and we’re glad to have taken a friends advice to visit!

Unfortunately my meal was not as i had hoped. I came here on a recommendation and was expecting a nice meal but, unfortunately it was not great. The food was too salty and the vegetables under cooked.

Having eaten at The Sun a number of times now since it opened, we wanted to leave a positive review, as finding somewhere to eat good food in Wheatley is a little challenging!

Don't be led astray by some of the poor reviews - they are for the previous owners who ran an antique/cafe, with a different team and could be a little 'iffy' when it came to customer service. The new Sun operation is much different - professional and friendly, and the food quality is very good.

Had lunch with a friend here. My vegetarian club sandwich was very tasty and came with veggie crisps. We both had a glass of wine and coffee after.

Lovely old building and relaxed atmosphere. We took some friends there for dinner, and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Currently mainly a breakfast, lunch and coffee break venue, with pre-booked dinner at the weekends, but I guess it will offer dinner on more evenings as it develops further. I know it is proving really popular because of the quality of the food, but you have to book for the evening and lunch at weekends. Sunny garden should prove an attraction when the weather improves !

What’s not to like. This place is transformed from a once tired pub to what is now a bright family friendly bar and cafe serving fabulous freshly made food obviously made with love and serving a great selection of beers, wines and coffees. We will be regulars

We ate here for lunch and for dinner in one day! The food was an amazing standard and the drinks were exceptional. My boyfriend had the burger (which was the first one they had ever served) and I had the vegetarian club sandwich which was so delicious - best sandwich ever. I will definitely be returning!

Upon entering the sun you are greeted with a warm welcome from a member of staff, I was advised before hand to book a table for the Sunday as it does fill up quick and I could see why, there being six guests in total there was a choice of roasts available and we all had the same feedback about how excellent and to a high standard this had all been from the roast meats to potatoes and beautifully cooked vegetables, we didn’t have too long a wait and selected the brownie and ice cream for dessert and it was lovely and how it should be.We all came away delighted looking forward to the next time we can all go. I would highly recommend visiting here for a high quality meal and service

Tried The Sun last night and we all loved it. Great food, sensible prices and friendly atmosphere. The Sticky toffee pudding was a particular favourite!

We were able to take our little dog into the bar area where there were a couple of tables. Staff were friendly and service was good.

We went here for my birthday and wasn't disappointed.

Been to the sun twice since it has reopened and it is well worth it! Food is delicious with lots of healthy dishes but also has great options like maple and bacon pancakes if you’re feeling indulgent Staff are super smiley and friendly too.

We heard that The Sun had reopened - and was going to offer dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings, so we went last night - it was the first night! We booked for 8pm - and found the upper dining area comfortably full but our reserved table was ready and it didn’t feel crowded. The menu - three starters, three mains and three desserts - was fine - we prefer a small menu because it suggests that food is freshly prepared ... and the kitchen at the Sun is very small. We shared a pulled pork starter which was delicious - served with bean sprouts and a beautiful sweet and sour sauce - and then we had the sea bass fillet served on tagliatelle with samphire and a really tasty crab sauce, and the confit duck with lentils and gnocchi, again in a deep and tasty sauce. We shared an Eton Mess for dessert - with fresh fruit.

We visited the newly opened Sun today and had an amazing roast. The pork was perfectly cooked with plenty of choice of vegetables. Great service with friendly staff. The garden is a perfect for an after dinner drink, a great sun trap. Definitely be back!

With the much anticipated Sun Café & Bar about to open on 3 September, I would like to share my experience of The Sun Inn, as was 2017-2019.

What a great local place to eat . Owners and staff very friendly and the quality of the food amazing . Parking limited and I recommend you book as it’s very popular so tables book up fast. 5 stars and we would visit again soon

Converted cafe come pub, with charming garden and decor. We stopped in off the A40, starving and in a hurry and enjoyed freshly cooked toastier and toasted wraps in the lovely garden. Very quick, very fresh, very tasty. No time for cakes which was a shame as they looked scrummy.

After visiting the Sun when it first opened, and commenting on 'how great it was to see a quality cafe opening in Wheatley', we have been regular visitors ever since. As we are leaving the village, but will thankfully will be only a short drive away, I am writing to say farewell and thank everyone at the Sun for their superb service, excellent snacks, specials, cakes and drinks, and all the warm and friendly welcomes we have enjoyed. The Sun is a credit to the owners and their staff, and we look forward to a drive in the country each week to catch up with them all. Best wishes and very many thanks.

Met a friend for a late lunch. We both ordered different salads from the menu. Both were fresh and generous portions. We managed to find room for some of the delicious home made cake on offer. Great food, reasonable prices, friendly service and lovely atmosphere. Although note they do close at 4pm so get there early to make sure you have plenty of time to enjoy all the lovely food and drinks.

Like a previous reviewer, I encountered a mean-spirited owner/manager with a frankly ludicrous response to a perfectly rational request for a small amount of extra hot water to top up my (tiny) tea pot, and hence I feel compelled to write a review. I had ordered a pot, rather than a cup of tea (presumably at extra cost - I should've checked given what occurred), as well as an (overpriced but quite tasty) omelette. The tea pot yielded one small cup and literally a dribble more. When I very politely asked for hot water to top up the pot, the owner seemed incredulous at my request, stating that they'd charge me for the extra water, and when I (understandably) looked a tad surprised, he rather aggressively asked why I should be, stating that it "costs us to heat the water". Given this is a small new cafe in a fairly quiet village, I'd say way to go to attract new and retain current customers! A business is only as good as its reputation ......

I visited with a friend for coffee after a long walk. It is hidden away but is a fantastic, friendly venue.

It was regret that I have to write this review, but I feel so strongly about it. I recently visited with friends, we all ordered hot drinks and cake. I had a tea, in a teapot and asked for some extra hot water (teapot only half filled) as I do not like strong tea. It came in a milk jug, so a very small amount.

Nice family run cafe. Breakfast was delicious and not very expensive. Try omelette with spinach and salmon. Staff is nice and welcoming.

We live locally and visited the pub years ago occasionally....just hadn't got round to trying the new set up...the marketing such as it is, seems low key so perhaps that is why. Anyway it's just perfect for a sandwich or light lunch... specials are great, cakes are fantastic and you can get a beer...nicely fitted out and v friendly and genuine staff/owners. Curiously an interesting selection of vintage/antique items for sale. So all round highly recommended

What a fabulous little find , had lunch with my friend who was visiting from Scotland , perfect little menu we had omelette, so delicious & a big mug of tea , we ate indoors then took our tea out into the quaint garden, such lovely friendly owners & staff , can’t wait to visit again with more friends , Thankyou very much

We called in here on the off chance glad we did .Open for breakfast lunches snack and afternoon tea and the menu is full of good choices .As the Sun was previously pub you can get a wine or a beer as well!

The coffee is excellent, the light meals and cakes are superb, the owners and their staff are charming which makes The Sun a superb place to drop in to for refreshments and relaxation. I first reviewed The Sun last August and have visited many times since, always leaving feeling uplifted. Well worth a visit but please leave space for me and my wife!

Down in this neck of the woods at lunchtime and planned to stop at a convenience store and grab some sandwiches to eat in the car. Then we spotted The Sun Inn and thought that might be a better bet. So glad we did, we had a smashing lunch. The menu is mostly breakfasts, sandwiches, paninis/wraps and omelettes, I chose a cheese and bacon omelette and my wife chose a bbc panini. Both were delicious and the portions were generous - that's the most filling I've ever had in an omelette, even when I've made it myself! My large cappuccino was just that - very large. And good coffee, too. The service was swift and accomplished, and very friendly. Very reasonably priced as well. Thoroughly enjoyable; an unexpected treat.

A surprising find in this pleasant little village. Very welcoming host and a lovely smoked salmon omelette served with a simple salad. Inexpensive and delicious.

I originally went in to just check it out so only had a drink and spoke to the lovely owners about their vision. I absolutely love the décor - lots of wood, gas burning stoves, sofas as well as normal seating.

We went for takeaway and ended up staying for dinner. The staff were very friendly and service was good ..... until a couple of tables full of obviously regular customers arrived and service transferred completely to them and we found it difficult to get anyones attention for drinks etc. The food was good enough but not great and felt a bit like supermarket curry. It wasn't good enough to make us want to make a return visit

Met up with friends from way back for a lunch and chat, and The Sun is in the ideal spot, but it really felt quite bizarre......it's a cafe tea room with an antique shop at the back! Our food was nice, the service good and helpful - but we were astounded when the owner was turning people away stating they were rushed off their feet and couldn't entertain any more customers for an hour and a half......the place was half empty!!! It was unbelievable to witness and just hope they realise that is a recipe for disaster!

At last we have a quality cafe in Wheatley. The cakes are outstanding, the snacks and the specials menu never fail to impress with their freshness and quality of cooking and presentation. This is not a fast food place so don't turn up expecting to be eating and drinking within 5 minutes of arriving, but do get yourselves a table, sit back and relax, maybe have a look at Steve's antiques, have a chat and just feel good about life. If the weather is fine the garden is delightful, the inside of this relatively small cafe can quickly fill up, a tribute to the quality of the baking, the hard working staff and the ambiance. There is none of the coffee chain Barista about the Sun just a genuinely warm welcome and the expectation of some delightful cakes or snacks. We are regular visitors and have never been disappointed.

Lovely sandwiches - chicken avocado for me, smoked salmon and cheese for hubby. Came with salad and crisps. Then the best strawberry sponge to finish. All reasonably priced. Pleasant staff, lots of outside seating if the weather is nice. No complaints.
