Shaun Dickens at The Boathouse in South Oxfordshire

Went here for lunch today and I have to say it's my favourite place I have eaten, not just in Henley, but in a long time. The food is first class and the service and restaurant itself was very good too. I had the tartiflette and it was delicious. The portion sizes are very fair (some may say big!) for the price. But it's not just the food, the whole restaurant feels like it has been put together with love, care and real thought in all aspects. The food is incredible though. They are making homely food that you want to eat but with incredible skill and touch. I'll 100% be back.

We had a really nice lunch here today. The food was great - I had delicious mushroom & Parmesan soup followed by Tartiflette. The service was friendly, professional and efficient - not hurried and not too slow. So overall, I have to say our experience today was perfect.

Dropped by with friends and ordered a bottle of Provence rose. Service was fine and don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind paying for a decent bottle of wine but at £39 this wine was awful. There are much better rose’s out there for this price. Had just had lunch from a very-good nearby restaurant and at £37 a bottle the rose was 10x better.

SO glad I chose this venue for a special birthday celebration. 10 family members of varied ages ( including children) Welcomed warmly, service excellent, atmosphere great and dishes were delicious! Despite the busy service ( guessing many walk ins due to the weather) and different meals, not one of us had a problem. Highlights were the mussels, fish pie, Thai curry, fish and chips, and the burger. I am told the puddings were ace too, especially the waffles. The NZ Sav Blanc was gorgeous too! A lovely place next to the river Thames. The staff are brilliant, which I always think makes a place. Thank you! Food is good, sometimes a little confused. My schnitzel was very thick for a schnitzel, but very tasty. Our party did find the aubergine chilli a little hot, but tasty. Small things. Thank you for a lovely evening.

What a find! Invited to lunch for a friend's birthday, and this was brilliant. Four of us were shown to our table by a lovely young member of staff. The menu was good, and we finished up with two ordering mussels, one fish pie, and me with a pork schnitzel. Service was friendly from the young team, and an excellent meal arrived. Everyone loved their tasty meals, the pork was huge but the quality was plain to see. The four of us are regular caravan visitors to Henley and will definitely return here! We went here for dinner on Saturday night. It was busy and had a really good atmosphere. The staff were amazing and couldn’t do enough for us. The fish pie was excellent! Good wine, food and staff. Highly recommend!

Not visited for a Sunday roast for a while! Wasn't disappointed ! Tasty perfectly cooked lamb, great roasties and extra gravy !! Great value kids menu too! We had a lovely family lunch on Sunday 15 December. First visit to the Bistro and we would definitely like to return. The vegetarian roast was delicious - and the children’s menu went down well too. All food served nice and hot and with friendly service. Thank you for a lovely lunch!

Christmas Eve with family. Super service and the most delicious sticky toffee pudding. The chilli sauce on my halloumi was slightly too hot for me, but still enjoyed it.

Visited for an anniversary celebration. The food was delicious and the service was great. The goats cheese starter was amazing. I had the veggie burger which was also delicious. Staff were attentive. A great experience.

A wonderful surprise. Taken for lunch by a friend after we had a tour at Bremont and it's rare that I want everything on the menu. I had the Christmas burger and a few pints of Meantime. Very busy with a calm, happy atmosphere. Super value and I'll definitely go back for more 🤞

Back at last shame it was Shaun and Gemma’s night off. Very quiet Wednesday but we were late arrivals. Made welcome, choice of seating, nice to see pichets of wine on the drinks menu. Had tariiflette which was spot on and a good price as well. Made us feel guilty we don’t go here more often! Oh and they accept cash!

Decided on late lunch by the river. A little chilly to sit out, so we sat by the window inside. Nice relaxed ambience about the place and the young waiter was friendly. Food was good with plenty of choice on the menu. Excellent coffee to finish. Great place to relax for an hour or so

My parents took me here for lunch, and it was a delight. Fantastic service, and delicious food. I highly recommend dining here!

Just walking along river and decided to pop in for light lunch and WOW we were very impressed. A friendly confident young service team who knew the menu. Gluten free options and they were happy to try and amend menu. The portion sizes were spot on, not mean but also not OTT. Excellent value too. Full of locals who the servers knew and young families so we think it’s popular and probably doesn’t need this review. Were looking forward to returning soon.

4 of us had different main dishes and there were issues with each of them -e.g. confit duck too salty, batter on fish was very thick, pork belly mainly fat. Although the flavour combination of my salmon dish was odd being overpowered by piquant pepper and masses of beans, the fish was cooked very well. And the service was very good.

I brought my mum (80+) and dad (90+) to Henley for the afternoon. We came here for lunch to escape the rain and ended up having a lovely lunch. ~ Mum had pork belly and said it was excellent. ~ Dad and l had burgers which were great. Thank you to Jake who served us. He was fantastic ~ efficient, polite and my mum says to say charming 😀

We had a wonderful meal, Sunday roast, on the deck. The ambiance was great. The young lady who served us was very good. It was our last meal in Henley as we left the following day for home.

This is the best full english breakfast I have had around this area by far, it's so tasty, cooked well and with loads of flavour. It's great to have proper bacon, and flavoursome sausages for once. Good service from the friendly staff with a lovely view over the river thames.

Went here for breakfast this morning with some friends. The service is amazing and the food is to die for. I had the salmon toast with a mimosa and a latte. Highly recommend for anyone in Henley. Can’t beat the location too.

Had my birthday dinner here with my daughter. The best roast I've ever had. Staff were lovely, everything done with a smile. Facilities were very clean too.

We had such a great time at this bistro. The staff were incredibly friendly and professional, making us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The place was spotless, reflecting their commitment to cleanliness. We had Bistro burgers which were delicious and Tartiflette, which was also amazingly tasty. A big plus for us was that dogs are welcome, so our furry friend could join us comfortably. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience!

Food was moderate - overcooked steak but the service was so incredibly poor. Such a shame as the location is beautiful. Please please please invest some time into your people and support their upskilling in service attention and quality. So sad as this place could truly be world class

arrived at the booked time and met with a very kind waiting staff who could see we really wanted to sit outside. we went inside for five minutes only to be greeted by the young man again who you could see he was genuinely pleased he could re seat us. Every single person down to the lady who had the unfortunate job of a water spill in the toilet was just a pleasure to speak to. we all ordered fish and chips which i will say was perfect and batter one of the best. it was a real pleasure sitting by the river in such a friendly place i would like to thank you for the very kind welcome warm regards Andrew McLoughlin

I visited was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. We ordered the mushroom Parmesan soup, fries, and baked Camembert cheese. Each dish was delicious and exceeded our expectations. While the prices are on the higher side, the experience was well worth it. The restaurant also boasts a good atmosphere and solid reviews, making it a great choice for a special occasion or a treat.

What a find, have a very nice lunch, great food, wine and Gin selection, friendly polite and fun staff. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Went down for a Sunday Roast. Big plateful but wonderful quality of all. Gravy and Yorkshire Pud was fabulous, ask for the Potatoes to be extra crispy. All round excellent venue and fabulous food.

As a bistro, I think that the food is at a very much lower quality than when it was a full restaurant. It was more like good pub grub, i.e. what you could make for yourself at home. But prices have been left at restaurant level. Satisfied but a little disappointed.

We had a marvellous Fathers' Day lunch at the Bistro - excellent food, very good service and very family (from 19 months to 74 years) friendly atmosphere - if it is as good as this on such a busy day I imagine it is likely to be fantastic at any time. Thank you!

A busy night at the restaurant resulted in a slow service. Once we had ordered the food came quickly. My starter macaroni ball x 4 was huge but very tasty. This was followed by a chicken Thai green curry which was very tasty and well presented. All the other meals looked good too. The restaurant occupies a great position very close to the banks of the Thames in Henley. Shame about the weather as we had hoped to sit outside. The ladies had wine which they enjoyed and the men were driving so only soft drinks 😕 Oils we go again? Yes we would as we had a nice night out 😁

Popped in for lunch. It had been too long since we went. Starters and mains, all very tasty and well presented. Smooth and swift service from chatty staff. Fresh ingredients. Very happy with that. Shame there was no room left for desserts, through generous portions (burger, thai chicken). Thank you!

So lovely to visit a family run restaurant rather than a chain! Something for everyone on the menu and the chef kindly adapted a dish for my young daughter. Food was fresh and seasonal and well complimented by extensive wine menu. Would recommend to families, friends and couples alike

Popped here for a quick lunch. Mains on the menu are very expensive, however portion sizes are generous and was of very good quality. Staff were friendly. It would be nice if they had a wider range of beers on draught.

We booked bistro at the boathouse for our wedding meal at the beginning of May. Gemma was lovely to deal with! Set out all our table decorations for us and Made sure the day went smoothly. The staff were all great and very helpful, the service was fantastic, it was like clock work! The food was lovely can’t recommend enough! We have been around 4 times now and the food is always to a very high standard 5*

Lovely bistro on the bank of the Thames at Henley, food was fantastic and the service was friendly and understated but in a good way. French doors open to the evening air of the Thames added to the ambience. Pork belly recommended.

We went on a Thursday night post Easter weekend so was probably quiet given the time. We chose to sit next to the window with a view of the Thames. From start to finish we had an amazing experience and the food was outstanding. We had the Camembert to share and for mains I had the mussels in white wine sauce, fries and crusty bread, whilst my partner had the fish and chips with tartare sauce and mushy pease. Everything was cooked to perfection - the haddock was beautiful and there was plenty of Camembert. This is a family run restaurant and this is a restaurant they can be truly proud of. The chef came out to chat to guests too, which was a nice touch. All in all, I would highly recommend!

Lunch here is always good. I've been there for a drink to start on the terrace, and we moved inside just after lunchtime. We were greeted well by the manager and seated promptly. The restaurant was quite busy, but I wasn't surprised with the location just by the river, and it was Good Friday, too. We went straight to mains; my friends ordered moules frites, and I ordered beef bourguignon. The food came quick and was delicious, full of flavour and perfect size glad we didn't order any starters as it was very filling. We will be back again at this is a spot not to miss in Henley-on-Thames .

My wife and I have just got back from a great meal there. Excellent quality food. Friendly, attentive staff. Far better than the meal we had at the Hotel Du Vin the night before.

Took a team there for dinner during a meeting in the Henley area. As always the food and service was excellent. Everyone enjoyed the food and the evening, highly recommended. From start to finish the service was also great, the service during the actual meal and making all the arrangements before the dinner itself.

A continual ‘go to’ restaurant in Henley ~ food is always consistently excellent, fresh and great size portions. Service is warm and friendly (consistently) too with the back drop of a beautiful setting. You just can’t go wrong here. Great for families, friends, couples and parties! Cannot recommend highly enough!

Four of us enjoyed the most delicious burger with piping hot crispy fries. Honestly couldn’t fault it. Everything was as it should be. Piping hot. Perfectly cooked. Quality ingredients. The rest of the menu looked great too. Staff were pleasant and efficient.

The place was very romantic by the river and i'm sure it would be beautiful if I visit during day time. I ordered special of the day for my meal, which for that it's the pork ribs. Not a single regret for that meal as it cooked to perfection. The price was reasonable so I would recommend this place to anyone.

Really nice first experience here. Very professional, very friendly staff, nicely decorated dining room and well-executed food during relaxed Sunday lunch by the patio window overlooking the river. We had a yearning for a burger and they even had gluten free bun. Topped with caramelised onion, cheese and plenty of quality bacon and despite the (admittedly large!) patty being more dense than we’d prefer, the quality of ingredients and preparation was excellent enough for us to want to return soon.

Went for Sunday lunch with some friends. The roasts absolutely hit the spot and the puddings were excellent. Friendly and efficient service, good sized portions (important if you are looking forward to a roast lunch) and reasonable prices. Will go again soon.

This bistro is a very nice place to spend the evening. All of us enjoyed our food. My Fish & Chips was good, but the Mussels were a better bet. Staff were friendly. Not cheap but definitely worth a visit.

We stumbled across this bistro completely by accident but are we glad we did! Lovely outside seating overlooking the river with enough space between tables. We were spoilt for choice on the menu. We settled on the mussels and they were fantastic. Staff couldn't do enough for you and service was super quick. Will definitely be going back and would recommend.

Beautiful food , very reasonably priced for outstanding quality. Well lit indoors and out with a cosy and open atmosphere. 2nd time coming here and will likely return again .

Lovely location. Limited menu and what you see on the online menu may very much not be what's available on the night. Was pleasant enough but we were expecting a little more as we chose it based on the Michellin Guide.

What happens when a Michelin star kitchen decides to open a Bistro - magic. Whilst the menu seems standard with burgers, fish and chips, tacos - the quality of the food when it arrives is off the charts. Every dish is absolute perfection in each mouthful. Generous portions, simply the best plate of food you could ask for. Lovely atmosphere, spacious tables good staff. The bill may appear pricey, but once you have experienced the quality of the food you will think it is bargain of the decade

Lovely setting for breakfast on a summers morning, quality of food is off a high standard ,portions could be slightly larger as the prices are on the upper scale staff are friendly and curtious we recommend this establishment to friends and family

Lovely Bistro with great food and a lovely view across the Thames.

As the only restaurant in Henley on Thames mentioned in Guide Michelin one has very high expectations, when we booked for lunch. A lovely setting on the banks of the Thames framed what could have been a perfect lunch. But not so. Their version of mussels in white wine was not very nice - in fact after one mussel we left the rest. The kitchen does not seem to have mastered the art of vegetarian cooking as we order their V burger. Yet another taste disaster that was left on the plate. Business must be going to well - no reaction to two rejected dishes and we had to pay for both.
