Eaten here twice this week. First was Sunday lunch, which was excellent, then a meal Friday evening. The fish and chips was tempting, but we settled on one Normanby chicken and one homemade steak pie. Both absolutely delicious, with plenty of side dishes. Very friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. One hundred per cent for the pub. One last point, it's very confusing to address this on the app as Sinnington because Normanby is miles away from Sinnington and the Sun Inn is at Normanby.

what can you say we were advised to try the Sun INN by the person we were staying with after 4 gargantuan meals there the advice given was brilliant. The food is out of this world and very very plentiful --- the staff are very helpful there is nothing i can say wrong so keep up with the good work 12 stars out of 10 !!!!

Having searched for a highly rated eatery serving a Sunday dinner, close by our location in Pickering we were guided to The Sun Inn, and wow!!! We were not disappointed with the quality of service and the extremely high standard of food being serviced. Everything was served fresh and with very generous portions. The deserts were no exception either to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable 1st (but not last) visit to The Sun Inn. We’re already planning to try something from the standard menu - but wouldn’t know where to start! Great job to all and thank you

Two travellers called in on spec for some food to eat , & Emma was able to find us a table by the TV . She did us proud on two occasions, as this Pub is very popular with the locals & always busy while we were there . We were staying in Marton nearby, so this was the nearest Pub in Normanby , Sinnington . We will happily call again when we are in Ryedale & book in advance where possible....

On recommendation we have been twice for Sunday lunch and the food is excellent as is the service, we have earmarked the sun inn for regular visits and will be trying pie night fish and chip night and the rest of the evening menu over the coming months, how brilliant to find this standard of home cooked food at affordable prices, a big thumbs up from us.

Just had the takeaway Sunday lunch: proper Yorkshire portion at a proper Yorkshire price, with home-cooked Yorkshire puddings. Unbeatable at £8.95. Just warming the crumble up now! Highly recommended for a good value, good quality pub dinner - make sure you book if you want to eat in. Traditional family run country pub, serving surrounding communities, long may it prosper.

We were staying locally with our two dogs so we used their takeaway service. The food and the portion sizes were very good. We especially enjoyed the steak and mushroom pie served with mash and peas on the Tuesday pie night, the pastry was nice and filled with lots of tender steak and even came with extra gravy. We only wish we lived closer so we could have more of your lovely meals.

Been here about 5 times over the past year as the food is fabulous but unfortunately, the service lets it down. The first time we went in all was good, the second time we waited a long time for the menu and then a server asked us if we wanted a sweet before we’d had our mains, we’d waited that long. The third time we went in I had booked for Sunday and had been put in the diary for Monday, but they managed to fit us in. The fourth time, thankfully all was good so we went back for a fifth time and waited 55 minutes for a starter to arrive. I returned each time in the hope that the service would improve as the food is so good, but to no avail.

Delicious Normanby Chicken is just sublime, succulent with bacon and mushrooms in a generous white sauce, served with side salad and homemade chips, fantastic value for money. My husband had the southern fried chicken burger, so tasty and moist, and again moreish homemade chips, followed by an excellent banana split. Smiley, friendly staff too.

We went for a weekend get away staying in Marton (2 miles down the road). I'd driven past the pub on my way into Marton and noticed they had an outdoor catering area to allow them to serve customers during the pandemic. We booked in for Sunday lunch at The Sun Inn and under normal circumstances I am sure things would be different. However, the staff were very friendly as we approached the outdoor bar, we were handed our food in takeaway packaging, which we were then able to sit and enjoy with a beverage under the marquee in the car park. Although we had to provide our own plates (due to the dratted coronavirus), we could not fault the food or service whatsoever. The Sunday Roast's were absolutely delicious, with myself and my partner indulging in the Steak & Ale Sunday Roast pie with all the veg and trimmings. The inlaws also had the roast beef and and the vegetable lasagne which were highly commended. We just about had room for desserts and the Lotus Biscoff cheesecake was to die for. Not having holidayed in North Yorkshire before I was anticipating a small slice of cake. How wrong I was! A generous helping (as we found in many places in the area) and very nice it was too. A short 20-30 minute walk from Marton and in the quiet, idyllic setting of the Yorkshire countryside, this pub definitely gets top marks from all of us and we will definitely be back if we're ever in the area. Thank you for providing such a great service and hospitality.

Firstly I need to say the food was delicious. There appeared to be only 2 young ladies serving etc....although with the very large party that was in for lunch there must have been plenty of staff in the kitchen. That said the service was painfully and unreasonably slow...we had booked for a 12.30 lunch and immediately the steak pies were already gone, presumably by the large party...extremely frustrating and poor planning as they would have had advance notice of such a large party. Our main was slow in coming and our puddings was the longest nice ever had to wait for food..banana splits takes no cooking whatsoever....banana, cream and ice cream but the wait for that and for the Bill was ridiculous.....in saying all that the 2 ladies were friendly and pleasant but they should have had more help with so many people in. Even with the delicious food I was left with a average impression of somewhere that had so many great reviews.

There's nothing fancy about this pub off the beaten track but it serves Sunday lunch until well into the evening. There was a warm welcome from the staff and we were the only diners in the back room. There was a choice of roasts all served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and a selection of vegetables for under £7, for an extra £1 you can have a larger portion. Puddings were under a fiver and in huge quantities, all the old favourites including crumble, cheesecake and steamed sponge with either custard or cream. It's decent home cooking and amazing value plus there's a good choice of real ale and other tipples such as flavoured gins.

Even though the dining tables were booked out, we were made to feel welcome and a space created for us. The meal was excellent, extremely tasty and very large portions. We enjoyed so much, we booked for Sunday lunch. Again, the dining room was fully booked but space was created for us. Sunday lunch was fantastic value for money, the small roast dinner was still large and very tasty. Puddings were also generously sized and very delicious. We would definitely recommend and would return if staying in the area again.

We were staying in a cottage in Pickering which had several recommendations (and sample menus) for local restaurants. We mistakenly thought that the Sun Inn they recommended was the one actually in Pickering but it turned out that this Sun Inn was, in fact, not all that local to the cottages. It's in a place called Normanby which is a little off the beaten track but we thought it would be worth the drive for our tea (as we real Northerners call it) at 6pm as we were enticed by the sample menu we had seen. We were not disappointed and I would be willing to make a diversion from anywhere on a route through North Yorkshire to sample the food again. Most of our party (4 adults and one 8 year-old) had the traditional Yorkshire starter of Yorkshire pudding with gravy (superb). I had the Whitby scampi which was a large portion and they were superb. My son is vegetarian and so had a vegetarian sausage with veggie gravy in a Yorkshire pudding. He declared it superb and scraped his plate clean. My daughter-in-law had a superb steak pie and my grandson plumped for chicken goujons which he thought were great (he doesn't really know the word superb). My wife wanted to try to stay healthy and so ordered a prawn salad which she declared was, have a guess. My son couldn't manage a dessert but the rest of us did and didn't eat again until dinnertime the following day. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone and definitely will visit again (unless it gets so popular that standards go down.

We are staying across the road from the Sun Inn and decided to pop in for some food. We had not realised it was Fish night and the pub was packed but we managed to get a table. The staff were very welcoming and our order was delivered very quickly despite being busy. The fish, chips & mushy peas were delicious and big portions. I hadn't realised that they were only 6.95 each which was amazing value. We have since been back on pie night which were equally delicious and value for money at 5.95. We are here for another 2 weeks so we will be back!!

Spent many an evening in The Sun when visiting family and friends, always a warm welcome from Harriet and her team, often late evenings are capped off by a load of chips or roasties and sausage rolls. Good selection of ales for a small bar and offers ample and traditional Sunday lunches, pool table, dart and a roaring fire make it a beaters, gamekeepers, farmers and walkers resting place, nothing clicky though, just good Yorkshire folks offering banter and a welcome to join in, unless you whip their cash at killer pool ha ha. Good stories and full of Bentley's like me, though unrelated, a grand old pub with core values and a smile on your face when you leave. Just what the doctor orders!

We chose the Middleton arms after seeing pictures of the gammon steak on Facebook, unfortunately this was sold out on the evening we went along with a few other dishes on the menu. I ordered the potato skins starter which came as a large portion which I enjoyed followed by Whitby scampi, this was average with frozen scampi. My wife had garlic mushrooms for starter which was okay, for main she had steak pie which she said was very nice.

Having been to the Stapleton Arms at Wass on many occasions and even been shown the bedrooms, 4 of us booked B&B and evening meals. I booked online 2 rooms. The 'Superior' room £150 per night and the other £100. However, we were not aware the venue had changed hands but it almost immediately became apparent. The stairs leading to the bedrooms looked very tierd and unhoovered. The landing and our bedroom stank of burnt fat and the rooms were very basic and on opening the wardrobe I found empty drink bottles. The door to the shower had black rising up it and the shower just ran like a tap.. Our meal was fine and our friends ordered a bottle of champagne which cost £70 which we were happy to pay but when the bill for the meal arrived it was altogether £340. They had even charged extra for a blob of icecream on my pudding as they said icecream was an extra. Next morning we met at breakfast only to discover that our friend staying in the 'Superior' room, one of whom is very seriously ill and this was supposed to be a treat during a break from treatment, found the shower was not working and they couldn't find a shaving ;point. Just to add insult to injury one of our party ordered a poached egg and when it arrived the toast was burnt black on the underside and my bacon was floating in fat. Had it not been for the fact that one of our party was very ill and we didn't want to make a fuss we paid up the bill and left. Not once did the manager ask us if everything was o.k. He was totally uninterested. What a nightmare stay. Never again, The next morning I phoned to speak to the owner but she was not at work but would ring me on the Thursday of that week. She never rang. I rang back a week later and was told the owner had been given my complaint and she would ring me but another weerk later I have received no response. I suppose she is £600 better off and we will never grace their doors again.
