The Middleton Arms in Ryedale

I treated my brother and his wife to Saturday lunch - my first visit since 1967 when this pub was my father’s ‘local’. The Middleton Arms will definitely become our ‘go to’ place for a meal out! Highly recommended.

Had a very good Christmas lunch today with a friend. The pub is lovely, the food good - Christmas menu - and a very nice welcome by the owner. Friendly, made us feel at home, we had a lovely time. Parking good. I chose the deep fried Brie, roast turkey and all the trimmings, Christmas pudding. Beamed ceilings, log burner, Christmas tree. A proper traditional pub. A really enjoyable time! Thank you!

The venue is under new management, and a new chef I believe when we visited. Always wanted to visit this place when passing by. The staff were accomodating as they could be with young kids, perhaps buying some stock of straws for children, cocktails and adults alike might be one worthwhile suggestion.

We chose the Middleton arms after seeing pictures of the gammon steak on Facebook, unfortunately this was sold out on the evening we went along with a few other dishes on the menu. I ordered the potato skins starter which came as a large portion which I enjoyed followed by Whitby scampi, this was average with frozen scampi. My wife had garlic mushrooms for starter which was okay, for main she had steak pie which she said was very nice.

We found this restaurant on line, we had never been to the area prior to this visit, and wanted to find a cosy Sunday Lunch. This was perfect. Really nice meal in a cosy pub. Cost was fair too. Would definitely recommend this place for a Sunday Lunch. The Bakewell tart was excellent.

we called in mid week by chance for an evening meal made very welcome by the staff , had an excellent meal, as previous reviews say if your in the area well worth a visit

Would highly recommend this lovely country pub. We booked for Sunday lunch whilst on holiday in Pickering, so glad we did. The food was delicious, pipping hot and plentiful. Fantastic staff, welcoming and attentive landlord, we will definitely call again if we are in the area.

Return visit always very good service and food excellent friendly staff barman particularly entertaining, and good choice of beers.

Wendy's cooking is to die for - simple as that. Her melt-in-the-mouth steak and ale pie (which you just need to use a fork to eat) - is legendary- and rightly so. Sausages and mash from a local butcher is also great, as was the chicken and (sorry, I forget what) pie, etc., etc. The owner and bar keep (if Izzie isn't doing bar keeping duties) is a right wag as he.might think.of us Sothrons (we come from Canterbury one week a year and try to eat here at least twice in that week) blow raspberries, are just as cheeky back - and keep demolishing Wendy's superb food - we weren't born yesterday... All told - brilliant - so do NOT FORGET TO CALL AHEAD AND BOOK - it's only off season (excluding weekends) that are quiet. You've been warned. Thanks, guys. From the minute we walked in we were made to feel very welcome. The food was by far the best we have had all week, so good we have booked a table for tomorrow night. Cannot rate this place highly enough.

Here is my honest review of are evening meal .. It's a fairly basic meal really with standard basic choices we ordered... Steak and ale pie Scampi X2 Hunters chicken Beef roast dinner Chicken with a stilton and mushroom sauce Out of all the above meals 2 of them could have been better they was.. Hunters chicken was drowned in BBQ sauce all though that was the only fault half of the sauce it would have been good. Beef roast dinner was very bog standard beef was dry and lacked in presentation. Also there was 1 bowl of vegetables between 3 meals 🤔. I asked if there was more vegetables coming. Which they did and got slammed on the table by a waitress almost like it shouldn't have been asked for. Also no serving spoon for the vegetables which was a first when going for a meal out. We did feel welcomed at the pub but if your going for a meal here. Don't expect a fantastic meal really it's just basic the prices we found a bit high. For what you got portions could have been better to. On the whole bog standard no thrill's meal with a quirky down to earth welcoming landlord 👍

Smashing little pub with a marvellous and upbeat landlord that's able to keep his cantankerous chef compliant beyond reason. My mother was especially impressed with the shandy blend of local ales, and their Sunday lunch was lovingly prepared and served promptly by a very competent and beautiful waitress. Great local knowledge and terrific candour. Hope to return soon!

Absolute, diamond find! If you are looking for a country pub, with a great atmosphere, a hilarious landlord, and Wendy (the chef) who cooks up an absolute feast. This is the place for you. Dart board, log burner, and a relaxed place to be. You won't be disappointed.

What a little gem!! Storm Babet hit the east Coast in Yorkshire, power went off, and our hotel wasn't doing food, so we fell onto the Middleton, a great place. A fantastic host, homely food and we will definitely return.

Was a Sunday lunch "walk in" and was lucky enough to get a place, others behind me were, unfortunately, turned away. Food was excellent as was the service. If I'm ever up that way again I'll definitely pop in, but this time I'll plan it and book! Limited car parking available at rear but it is a small pub, due to the age and size of the building it is not wheelchair friendly but I used my crutches anyway so no problem there.

As soon as we walked in we could feel the friendly atmosphere, the staff were very pleasant and quick to see us to our table, the landlord was a comedian and had us all laughing all night,the food was great and overall a fantastic evening. Would definitely go back.

The host (landlord) is a character and adds to the atmosphere. Good beer, good food, and good music. I've paid more elsewhere for far worse food. Booking is recommended but not essential. Be prepared to wait if you've not booked. We didn't have any dietary requirements, but it was apparent from overhearing other customers ordering that nothing was a problem, whether it was allergies/intolerances or veganism/ vegetarianism.

We've just returned from a holiday stay in Middleton, a 2 minute walk down the lane to this delightful pub. We have been before a couple of years ago, it was good then and its just as good now. Great food and wonderful ale, wine too, very welcoming, great atmosphere, our little dog Betty loved the fuss and a treat. Have I mentioned the food? Thank you Wendy you're a wonderful cook. Visited for a drink and food smelt so nice, came back later that evening to eat and they were happy to fit us in at short notice despite being fairly busy. Food was excellent, plenty of choice, friendly staff, excellent service. Very good all round!

Brilliant pub, great banter, delicious food and we were spoilt for choice with vegan options. So good we went two nights in a row.

We came here last night while away with a group of friends we met on holiday. We all ordered mains and desserts and had a couple of drinks afterwards. The pub were great with my gluten intolerance and catered for me without making a fuss. The food was lovely and flavoursome and the landlords were super friendly and made us feel very welcome! If we ever venture back to Pickering we will 110% return. Thank you for a lovely evening! :)

A local pub that made us really welcome. A couple of real ales that were well kept and although the food is just traditional pub fare, it was well cooked, tasty and good sized portions.

You don’t get many pubs like this any more and I’m so glad we visited. Hearty delicious pub grub made by the lovely Wendy and good beer and banter served up by the friendly landlord. All by a log fire in a warm atmosphere of locals and visitors. Highly recommend, especially the steak pie which is the best I’ve had in a while.

We went for mother's day. It was a lovely roast. The choice and value was good. We had puddings and coffee. They made it a special day for everyone there. All mothers got a potted plant, which was a lovely gesture.

Visited here today with a party of six adults and one child. Very friendly and cheerful atmosphere. The owner was amazing with my Granddaughter. The food was delicious, hot and very tasty. Excellent value for money. Would definitely recommend this place to friends and family and would visit again.

Warm welcome and lovely food. Roast lamb was tender and succulent. Veggies cooked to perfection - slightly al dente and not swimming in water. Tasty gravy and perfect roast potatoes. Bread and butter pudding was perfection. Thoroughly enjoyed my Sunday lunch, thank you.

We went to celebrate my parents inlaw 50th wedding anniversary meal. Lovely food, friendly staff and a cook that went the extra mile to offer an extra vegan options for dessert to my daughter. Well worth a visit!

My husband and I have been visiting family all over England for the past couple of months. We always try the steak and ale pie every time. The pie here is hands down....THE BEST. owner is always gracious and friendly, even when we haven't booked a table. Highly, highly recommend.
