Absolute, diamond find! If you are looking for a country pub, with a great atmosphere, a hilarious landlord, and Wendy (the chef) who cooks up an absolute feast. This is the place for you. Dart board, log burner, and a relaxed place to be. You won't be disappointed.

What a little gem!! Storm Babet hit the east Coast in Yorkshire, power went off, and our hotel wasn't doing food, so we fell onto the Middleton, a great place. A fantastic host, homely food and we will definitely return.

Was a Sunday lunch "walk in" and was lucky enough to get a place, others behind me were, unfortunately, turned away. Food was excellent as was the service. If I'm ever up that way again I'll definitely pop in, but this time I'll plan it and book! Limited car parking available at rear but it is a small pub, due to the age and size of the building it is not wheelchair friendly but I used my crutches anyway so no problem there.

As soon as we walked in we could feel the friendly atmosphere, the staff were very pleasant and quick to see us to our table, the landlord was a comedian and had us all laughing all night,the food was great and overall a fantastic evening. Would definitely go back.

The host (landlord) is a character and adds to the atmosphere. Good beer, good food, and good music. I've paid more elsewhere for far worse food. Booking is recommended but not essential. Be prepared to wait if you've not booked. We didn't have any dietary requirements, but it was apparent from overhearing other customers ordering that nothing was a problem, whether it was allergies/intolerances or veganism/ vegetarianism.

We've just returned from a holiday stay in Middleton, a 2 minute walk down the lane to this delightful pub. We have been before a couple of years ago, it was good then and its just as good now. Great food and wonderful ale, wine too, very welcoming, great atmosphere, our little dog Betty loved the fuss and a treat. Have I mentioned the food? Thank you Wendy you're a wonderful cook. We came here last night while away with a group of friends we met on holiday. We all ordered mains and desserts and had a couple of drinks afterwards. The pub were great with my gluten intolerance and catered for me without making a fuss. The food was lovely and flavoursome and the landlords were super friendly and made us feel very welcome! If we ever venture back to Pickering we will 110% return. Thank you for a lovely evening! :)

A local pub that made us really welcome. A couple of real ales that were well kept and although the food is just traditional pub fare, it was well cooked, tasty and good sized portions.

You don’t get many pubs like this any more and I’m so glad we visited. Hearty delicious pub grub made by the lovely Wendy and good beer and banter served up by the friendly landlord. All by a log fire in a warm atmosphere of locals and visitors. Highly recommend, especially the steak pie which is the best I’ve had in a while.

We went for mother's day. It was a lovely roast. The choice and value was good. We had puddings and coffee. They made it a special day for everyone there. All mothers got a potted plant, which was a lovely gesture.

Delicious homemade roasts for our Sunday lunch today at The Middleton Arms near Pickering, N Yorkshire. Choice of beef, pork or chicken, or a combo, as well as vegan options. All delicious. Good choice of homemade puds too. Friendly atmosphere and a really enjoyable experience. Hope to return.

Visited here today with a party of six adults and one child. Very friendly and cheerful atmosphere. The owner was amazing with my Granddaughter. The food was delicious, hot and very tasty. Excellent value for money. Would definitely recommend this place to friends and family and would visit again.

Warm welcome and lovely food. Roast lamb was tender and succulent. Veggies cooked to perfection - slightly al dente and not swimming in water. Tasty gravy and perfect roast potatoes. Bread and butter pudding was perfection. Thoroughly enjoyed my Sunday lunch, thank you.

My husband and I have been visiting family all over England for the past couple of months. We always try the steak and ale pie every time. The pie here is hands down....THE BEST. owner is always gracious and friendly, even when we haven't booked a table. Highly, highly recommend.

What a lovely little pub! We had delicious home cooked food by Wendy. The allotment pie was a delight and apple and plum crumble was just yummy. Hubbie had the sausage and mash and a pudding off the specials board taking him back to boarding school days. What a great find. Nice landlord and we were seated next to another couple, also on holiday, who were really nice! Highly recommend this pub for food, ambiance and service.

Was recommended to try food at the Middleton arms. We thought the food was pretty average and overpriced. Tried the black bull a few miles away and was a massive difference in quality and price.

Food was really good, on the whole. 4 of us ordered 3 different dishes and 3 of us ordered the same dessert. Portion sizes were on the small side, we had to ask for additional mash with the nut roast and the dessert portions also could have been bigger and with more fruit in the crumble. Generally good value, staff were excellent and very friendly. Being dog friendly is also crucial for us because we were on holiday in the area and wouldn't have been able to leave the dogs behind so kudos on that one as well. Really enjoyed the meal and would absolutely come back. Book ahead to be sure of a table even in the middle of the week - they're good so they're busy.

Good veggie / vegan options (not just mushrooms!!!). Cozy atmosphere. Dog friendly. Nice folks behind the bar. What more could you ask for?

Found this pub by accident but so glad we did. It was a busy teatime when we arrived but the landlord was fantastic and very accommodating although we had to wait a while we were given drinks and a table to sit at. When the food came it was so tasty and delicious including the puddings. The pub itself has a lovely atmosphere a little gem so close to Pickering 😀

5* simply because I can’t leave 10! Dropped in here in desperation today ( Easter Saturday) after travelling around to a couple of places and not being able to get a table. Thought we were off to the Chinese in Pickering when we stopped her and asked if dogs were allowed in? Yes we were told and then did they have a table for 2? Despite being full and tables reserved they found us one, we had to wait a bit to have our order taken but they did get us drinks straight away while we waited for them to deal with the party of 8 that came in just before us. When they did take out order I went for the sirloin steak and my wife the lasagna. This was finished with apple crumble / custard and hot choc fudge cake / custard. We can honestly say it all was cooked to perfection. The steak I haven’t had so good in a long time ( even when I’ve cooked it) and the wife’s lasagna was spot on too. Puddings tasted perfect too. Lovely, small, but reasonable quite pub considering it was full. Staff were outstanding, friendly, helpful and polite apologising for our wait which considering we dropped in on the off chance was our fault not theirs. The landlord was great. Joking and making us feel at home and actually wanted. As others have said, every pub needs a landlord like this. Our only regret was it was our last night that we popped in even though over the years we’ve driven past it so many times. If you want a well cooked meal at a nice quiet county pub with good service and polite staff you don’t need to look any further. We will definitely be back here when in the area. Thank you so much to all the staff.

Good food in perfect portions. Staff were very friendly and accommodating, we turned up just before closing and managed to get us seated and served promptly.

Turned up as a four person party without a reservation during a busy period. We were accommodated and made to feel most welcome. Really excellent food for 2 veggies and some fussy older members. Menu was small but I prefer this. Good selection of wines. Very happy.

The food at the Middleton arms is some of the most delicious food I've ever eaten, I had the pheasant Casserole which was so creamy and the pheasant just fell apart! 😲 The others had the beef pie which also looked delicious... Pudding was a sticky toffee pudding, which again was super tasty, and definelty for those with a sweet tooth 🥧 All the staff were lovely especially Angela who put up with us throughout the night, and we couldn't thank them enough for the laughs! Going again on Sunday, so safe to say would definitely recommend for any that like good food and friendly people!!

Angela, and all the staff, are wonderful hosts. They deal very well with a 44 year old child and their requests for beans and custard creams (but not together 'cause that's gross). Lovely food and great staff. Brilliant evening.
