Perfect Sunday lunch , booked at the last minute but they fit us in, fantastic service and really really great value for money

Standards seem to be slipping, but maybe they just have the B team working on Saturdays? We’ve been regulars here for nearly 15yrs and have always loved it. It’s never been back to what it was before it closed due to the lockdown though unfortunately, maybe they lost some good staff during the shut down I don’t know. The last few times we have visited have been a Saturday which is why I mentioned. Maybe they have the B team working to save the better staff for the busy Sunday, but each of the last times we’ve been there has been small issues with the food but today I was really disappointed with my meal as half of what I was served was inedible! I ordered the belly pork, which I’ve had just about every visit in 2024. I’ve gotta admit that the “crispy” description on the menu is at best hitty/missy, some days great others it’s chewy. Maybe if consistency is beyond some other the kitchen staff then maybe it could be possible to remove the crackling and serve it up separately to make it easier, the meat though is usually spot on. My issue with today’s food and service though was that what menu describes as the “black pudding crushed potato” which I’ve had easily 10+ times and enjoyed, was on this occasion totally inedible! There was other things mixed into it, which I’d imagine from a H&S stand is a big no as we were not asked about allergies! The stack had a massively overpowering smoked flavour to it, it was like eating a kipper! I gave my wife a taste and she immediately spat it out! It was foul! I was just about finished the belly pork and veg when a waiter came over to ask how our food was and I mentioned how unhappy I was with the item, he went to ask the kitchen what was different and came back and said sometimes they add pancetta to it…. Now I’ve had pancetta and I do think there was pancetta in it, but I’ve never had any that tasted as strong as that! He did offer to bring me some chips or mash instead but I only had a couple of mouthfuls of food left so I declined, all the waiter said was “I’m sorry you didn’t like it” and walked off. A while later when everyone was finished eating a blonde waitress came to clear our plates and asked how everything was….. again I explained my disappointment in my (obviously) untouched black pudding potato, again the response was “sorry” and she took our plates. Now I wasn’t expecting a free meal or anything but an offer to knock a few pounds off for the obviously untouched item would of been reasonable thing to do, since the item was not as described on the menu, and unlike it has been on any of the numerous times I’ve had it. If this is to be the recipe going forward then please say so on the menu, not just for people that could be allergic to any of the unmentioned ingredients but also for the people that don’t was kipperesque flavoured spuds with their belly pork! Also can I appeal to the management to bring back a proper specials board! It brought more variety for regular visitors that could get bored with the same menu for months on end. It was great to come and get swordfish or a nice lamb rump dish now and again yet since lockdown the “specials” board has been 1: soup of the day 2: Roast meat sarnie 3: a Sausage….. I’m sorry but non of which come across in any way as “Special”

We called in for lunch and the food was fresh, well cooked and presented. No issues complying with covid protocols as they seemed to be well organised and the staff were really helpful.

A lovely meal again here. Not the cheapest but excellent value for this quality of food. Excellent portion sizes and great service.

With some family away for the weekend I fancied a break away from cooking and we decided to treat ourselves for a Sunday lunch out for a change. Booked the day before and got in for 12pm no problem. Me having a hearty appetite and the belly to match, ordered the trio of meats as I couldn’t make my mind up. The availability of a vegetarian cheeseburger kept the teenage daughter happy and my wife went for the beef as always. All three meals promptly arrived and the portions were huge. The meats were cooked to perfection and the Yorkshires were that big, I was still finding extra roasters underneath 10 minutes later! Teenage daughter was defeated by the huge vegetable burger that came with wedges and salad. The only thing that stopped me giving full marks was the fact the food was dished up on cold plates meaning it cooled rather quickly, otherwise everything was perfect and too quality. As it was a treat, the cheesecake and sticky toffee pud were sampled and got the thumbs up too. I like this place for a number of reasons. The great food, the excellent staff (honestly, they really looked after us) and the feeling of the place that maybe posh folk call the “ambiance”. We enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back sooner rather than later. Recommended!

Wow! We had the valentine’s menu and it was outstanding. Food was sublime and quantity was generous. So much so, because we ate everything…we are full!!! The staff were extremely friendly and the ambience was lovely. Would highly recommend. I’ll attach photos of the Valentine’s Day food. ❤️

The steak and ale pie was amazing! But at lunchtime the pub was still a bit nippy, bring your coat!

We were recommended this place because St Mary's where we live is trying to be something it isn't. We wanted a good steak meal and were really impressed with the atmosphere and the prices and most of all the food was great.

First time here didnt know what to expect. The staff were so friendly on arrival. Our order was taken and the service was excellent. Blown away by the food and it's presentation. Well done to all at the Sun Inn. Would recommend this Pub highly.

Sorry… yes the food was ok …. but why the increase in prices… £14.50 for a Sunday lunch .. not reasonable for what you get . Will go somewhere else from now on .

This pub is amazing .. super warm and friendly when you walk in, food is outstanding and prices are reasonable, we called in as a family off the hop and we will def be back .. we absolutley loved it!! 5 stars all day long ✨️

As you walk in you're welcomed with a friendly face and a warm ambiance, typically country pub with pub classics .. food is unbelievable for value so flavoursome and great portion size. Highly recommend the batters prawn started ajd the hunters chicken burger absolutley yummy .we will def be back.

Great quality food for a reasonable price. You need to wait a bit longer for your food, but definitely worth it. Been many times before and will return again

New year eve 2023 We all enjoy our Sunday dinner The best! The pork was delicious , served with plenty of vegetables! The roasties were perfect , a huge Yorkshire pudding ! We always go here after shopping in Morpeth! Staff fitted us in even though it was busy. Lovely Thai curry’s were great and wine served in beautiful glasses. The ambience of the place is lovely. Never disappointed!

Really enjoyable meal, the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food and ale are spot on. We will definitely be returning in the future.

Seems back to it's best Food was good . Very generous portions. Beers were served in tip top condition. Extremely reasonably priced.

There were a few people already eating. The staff were lovely and helpful, showed us to our table, very polite. We had booked the Xmas meal. Had pate starter, chicken dinner, loads of chicken, roastys and veg, pigs in blankets and gravy it was very hot and cooked beautifully. My dessert was Xmas pud. Waiting table staff asking how are meal and was it ok. Do you need more drinks. Prompt service with a smile. Thank you so much

Family gathering on a snowy December Saturday, we were not disappointed by the reviews we consulted ahead. Plenty food, even too much for one meal. The belly of pork was unreal …and massive! We had doggy bags to take home which fed lunch for 4 people the day after! If I had a suggestion to write it would be to improve lighting as nobody could see very well inside our plates or each other. I would recommend this place if you want to eat a traditional meal well cooked. Ps staff very nice and attentive, thank you!

Totally disapointed with quality of Sunday lunch, sent Pork dinner back twice , requested no gravy plated flooded in it!!! New plate came 2 small scrap ends of burnt loin pork again sent back !!! had to ask for extra veg 3 small dishes for 9 people , My husband had roast chicken , roast potatoes had seen better days and said it was the worst Sunday lunch he has had at the Sun , its such a shame as Normally Sunday lunches are well worth the money but not any more

Great pub for beer.... avoid at all costs for food. We had a meal for 6... i really don't know where to start how poor the food is. If you like good quality food... do not go here. If you are reading this Sun inn... start by getting higher quality ingredients and then get some chefs who understand what good quality is and how to cook it.... not even the chips were nice!

Could not fault the quality of the food. Portions were big and cooked to perfection. I had the haggis stuffed chicken with peppercorn sauce and asked for chips instead of mash. Beautiful and tasty. Cooked to perfection. However the service was shocking. It took ages for our order to be taken. After our food arrived we were never approached to ask if anything was needed, if we wanted another drink, if we wanted any desserts or anything. It’s like here’s your food, that’s all we need to do. Now leave! Also the restaurant itself was freezing cold. Please turn your air conditioning off and turn the heating on. One of our party kept their coat on during the meal and we left early because of both the shocking service and the cold pub. Sad!

I have reviewed the Sun Inn before. It used to be my local when l lived across the road in Deuchar Park. I have always given the Sun great reviews but l cannot do this again. WE came in June and the menu had changed and t was now all fast food. The manager I (assume) explained that this was the the summer menu. Thirty years in Fraud told me that the smarmy git was bull shitting. We ordered our food and it was dreadful. They knew we were regulars and had always praised the food in the past. To our surprise we were not charged for the drinks as an opology. The Manager apologised as we left and said they hoped to see us back soon. We did not. We went shopping in Morpeth and decided to give it another try expecting the "winter"menu as per Mr Smarmy. No it was the same rubbish.

We called in on a whim for early tea. It was pleasantly busy and had a nice vibe. The service was a little slow, but as I said it was busy. I ordered the Mountain of ribs, and it was a mountain! Lovely chips too.

I ordered a take out Sunday dinner..pork of course because it's always so delicious...plus strips of cracking of course......feeling very full and happy.

The food is absolutely delicious and very good value with large portions. The staff are very pleasant although it takes a bit of time to get attention if you need something. We will definitely be back

Dined here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. My wife had the Beef and Ale pie and I had Lamb Koftas. Both meals were delicious. The menu has a good range of meals at reasonable prices. Service was good with friendly staff.

Fantastic food and service. Sat 14th October and 4 of us (adults) book a table for 7pm. The staff were on the ball with drinks and service. The starters and mains were fantastic. We all had a different meal and starter and everything was cooked...

We have been to the sun inn and always had a fantastic experience. Really disappointed with the service on this visit. Service was extremely slow and staff weren’t as friendly as usual. We noticed regulars were looked after as service to those were given immediately....

Not very good. Sunday lunch. Beef was tough, veg barely warm and hard. Main course and vegetables served on cold plates but cheesecake was served on a hot plate 🙄. Had to ask for sauces then wait for serving spoons. Sticky toffee pudding was good however staff began to clear plates away before we had all finished desserts. This used to be the place to come for Sunday lunch not so sure now.

Food was medioca had it outside but main meal came a good while after finishing starter could understand if busy but wasn't When main came I had to go back in 10 minutes later to ask if they were bringing the missing meal so don't know why or how that happened as 4 of us and they brought out only 3 meals So not recommend

Oh dear 😳 don't order the cheese burger , worst one I have ever had , well I say had , I only had 2 bites and that was enough for me, bone dry and the cheese with the 1 rasher of bacon were unpalatable

The first time eating here, I ordered the cheese burger with bacon and came with chips and salad. Can't remember eating a worse burger, well I say eating had 2 bites and that was enough,it was so dry the pattie was on the small side and the cheese was presented in a way I have never seen before dropped over the burger with 1 slice of bacon in the middle of it, not sure what type of cheese it was, but dosent belong on a burger, there is a reason nobody else is doing cheese burgers like this, don't try and reinvent the wheel, the chips were over cooked and should have been binned, the fact someone in the kitchen thought they would send them out and they will be OK makes me worried for the calabour of kitchen staff working there, if you can't get a burger and chips right time to have a re think about career choices. My wife had a ceaser salad with chicken, which she said was OK, certainly looked better than mine 😐 Don't think we will be back. We did point it out to staff when we paid the bill, and they knocked 50% of the burger meal, Cost £12.50 for the meal, so I paid ,£6.25 for a small portion of salad,

After a day of heavy rain we just needed a place to sit, relax but most importantly... eat. Not being locals we had little idea where to go so literally ended up in the first place we saw, glad we did. The place was pleasent, the service was great and the food was excellent. A welcome distraction from the weather which had so far put a dampener on our holiday!

Lovely pub with very good food. We went mid week at midday so it was fairly quiet hence the lower atmosphere rating. The food quality was very high and the portions were generous. Would definitely eat there again.

The service was great but the food was absolutely dreadful. Big portion sizes don't make up for really low quality food. Nobody wants to eat a really big helping of bad tasting food. The cheeseburger tasted like the cheapest possible Bidfood frozen patty, and the ribs were dry, flakey and congealed in an overly sweet glaze with little to no flavour. Really disappointing, especially at a price point where you expect a decent standard

First time visit with some friends. Went after nine so the place was almost empty. Service and beer etc was nice. We created are own atmosphere as there was 10 of us. Pleasant place to visit, we have heard it does lovely food at lunch time so will have to visit then, if can get in.

Food fabulous, six people, 4 different starters, 5 different main meals and every one was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Six very contented customers. Service was excellent and very comfortable surroundings.
