We ate here twice during the bank holiday and both times the food was amazing! The sirloin steak and sausage and mash were delicious! The service was also impressive. Staff were efficient, polite and attentive.

Lovely food, we had the grilled chicken and cheeseburger which were very tasty. The staff were polite and efficient - it was very busy and they were rushed off their feet!

If you have allergies I do not recommend this place. Especially if you have a soya allergy as they fry everything in a oil that contains soya. It means that none of the kids meals would be available. I came here today with my family for a nice meal. My 18 month old has a host of allergies. I am still breastfeeding so also have to cut these out. I spoke to the waiter and he said he would speak to the chef. He came back basically saying the chef had said he was too busy and essentially could not be bothered to cater to our needs. I was not happy but did not want to ruin the meal for anyone else so they ordered. Myself and my 18 month old did not have anything. The food they had was okay. I have been to plenty of pubs with my daughter and they have always catered to us. I appreciate having customers with allergies is hard but this is not the right attitude to have. It isn't easy for those who have allergies. My 18 month old cannot help it. Please do better. Maybe consider changing your oil so that some of your menu is suitable.

Very nice 18th century country pub food very good gone down in my expectations ordering a coffee took 25mins it wasn't busy at all .

Went to Phil’s Sunday night pub Quiz started 8pm and had a fun time. Phil was a very funny host and quiz was on all round subjects. Roast beef, roast potatoes and yorkshires were offered as part of entry free. Tremendous value. We were made to feel very welcome.

Try and visit for Sunday lunch when we visit the area. So hit and miss though. Yesterday, 23/3 was definitely a miss, most of the staff couldn't give a monkeys, the roast was lovely, as usual but the puddings were minimal choice and really not very appetizing but ultimately the staff were really not good at all, will think twice about visiting again.

Excellent place to eat, home-made food great service

Used to be the place to go for a drink in the beer garden when the sun was out but upon arriving the garden just looks so neglected. Just basics like the grass hadn’t been cut, things being dumped around, rubbish all over the grass that hadn’t been picked up, rusty tables and chairs. These seem so minor to fix to make a welcoming environment. Not sure it’ll be our go to anymore for when the summer arrives as there’s other beer gardens in Morpeth that look a lot cleaner.

The total bill for the two of us came to £85 including drinks. Guest ale really cheap here as well. I actually had three courses which is something I don’t normally do. Service was a little slow but staff very friendly. Real nice community minded pub. If we’re holidaying up this way again we’ll be sure to call in. Highly recommended.

Been coming here for few years now and cannot fault the place! Plenty of staff on hand for top class table service. I tried the honey glazed ham today and it's quite possibly the best Sunday lunch in the northeast! 2023 -Never had a bad Sunday lunch here, trio of meats great value for money. Gets busy so recommend booking in advance. Staff always polite and helpful.

We ate well but waited a few minutes longer than normal. The overcooked beef and the combination of lamb with vegetables are good. Excellent choice of beers. Inside the venue there is plenty of space and many photos of Morpeth from the past. Clean bathrooms equipped with a changing table for babies, very friendly service. Prices a little higher for being a transit location compared to nearby cities. Next time I'm convinced it will be 5*****!

Arranged to meet a friend I hadnd seen since Nov 2024. Lots if catching up to do, and exchange Xmas presents BRENDA fancied 'comfort food' so we both settled on Sausage n Mash. I opted for half portion ( absolutely delicious but couldn't even finish all of that) I have to say," gravy to die for". Thank you chef and our lovely waitress.

Really nice food excellent service and water for the pooch

Went to celebrate the new year on New Year’s Day. The weather was appalling so as we entered the pub like drowned rats we felt a warm welcome. The service at the bar despite the busy lunchtime throng was almost immediate very friendly and very professional. The table service was equally pleasant and efficient to take our order and in a short time our meals arrived. The food was excellent and reasonably priced and soon devoured by us all in all. We couldn’t fault anything and the overall consensus was that the staff were very helpful and went the extra mile to ensure our visit was memorable 10/10 all round and would recommend this pub 100 petcent. We will return in 2025.

Visited tonight with family, service was excellent, very attentive & efficient, menu choice was very good. We chose Starters, mains & deserts, all were so generous in portions, so tasty and great value. This has to be the best pub food we have been served for 2024.

Excellent food, four different meals, all very tasty with good size portions (particularly the gammon). Would 100% recommend, I’ll be back for the Sunday Roast.

Very disappointed. We had been here months ago as we aren't local and the previous meals had been lovely. Decided today as it's my birthday that as a treat I would like to go here. What a disappointment, I ordered the Shepard's pie with buttered kale. I had to send it back straight away as it was only Luke warm, I then had to wait for a new one which by that time my husband and son had finished their meals. Very disappointed as not really acknowledged.

We arrived a bit early for our booking and were asked fairly early for our drinks order. After about 40 minutes, watching people in front of us be served with food we asked if we had been forgotten about and we were assured that we hadn’t. A few minutes later the starter came out and the server brought 3 instead of two. Can’t understand why as we had pre ordered the food. The young man serving us was really rude about it snatching the spare one away. However, the food when it came was amazing, very tasty and lots of it. Piping hot and beautiful fresh vegetables. We all commented that it was the best Christmas Meal we had eaten ever in a restaurant. Pity the service let it down a bit, hence the loss of a star.

Beautiful bar and grub with great staff

I booked a table for lunch on 11th December way back at the beginning of October for a festive family meal. I noticed on the pub's Facebook page there was a preorder from for the festive menu. When visiting later in October I asked about this, offering to preorder and pay a deposit while I was there, the staff member said that wouldn't be necessary as there was only 4 of us. Arrived yesterday to be told by a male member of staff that we couldn't have the festive menu as we hadn't pre-ordered, I explained that I had queried that and been advised otherwise, his response was "I had been told wrong", he was rather rude. We decided just to leave and was approached by who I presume to be the manager, I explained the situation again and they blamed new staff. They did offer to speak to the chef and see if they "could pull something together" which didn't sound particularly promising. Shiremoore House Farm were more than happy to accommodate us and take my £111.00. We've had a few meals at the Sun Inn but won't be returning.

I had the most delicious 'Vegetarian Roast'. The slow cooked root vegetables were divine and the service was friendly and efficient. I thoroughly recommend this establishment.

Visited today with family. Food,as always was excellent. Well worth a visit.

We tried sun inn again and wow didn't they deliver ..my wife got the trio meat sunday lunch she said meat was tender and everything was amazing ,I had the fish and chips the fish was like a whale freshly fried and piping hot ,we will be back next Sunday...as for staff can't fault them ,polite and nothing too much trouble .

Attending a party for a retirement. Staff had separated an area for the party which was quite private but not isolated. Staff were very friendly and helpful in all respects and the bar was easy to get to. Highly recommended and we will return if in the area. Thanks to all. 👍

First time visiting and we will be back. The only negative comment is the check backs. Our service was quick and our main served straight away. After that we had to go to the bar for drinks and desert menu and the service got slower. A loud barking dog took a while to be removed. The place is lovely....just needs some organising. We will return as the food we had was great.

Just there for beer. Three cask ales on offer and a keg IPA.

Had a lovely meal with three friends last night (Monday 21st October ). Grill deal Monday -thursday .. my friends and I had Steak for two of us and Chicken for the other friends and wine. ..Our steaks were delicious 😋😋 ..really enjoyed our evening.

We’ve been here a couple of times now for a family Sunday Lunch and never been disappointed. The food comes out quick and has decent sized portions for the hungry. We’ve always found the service to be spot on, but on this occasion perhaps it was too over attentive. Firstly there’s loads of staff on duty which is great for fast service, but we got the impression they didn’t have set tables to look after, so this resulted in being asked several times by different members if we had ordered our drinks. Likewise for the main courses. We simply replied with a smile that has we had and laughed it off…several times. The food was hot and delicious with lashings of gravy and the Yorkshires beat mine every time. A good selection of fresh vegetables came on side dishes. I was happy to see extra roasters hidden under the trio of meats I had ordered. All in all, a good Sunday lunch treat out. Now this is where they lose a point….the plate with the bill on it was proudly presented on the table in front of me with the words “here”s your bill”…while my wife was still halfway through her pudding. I had neither asked for it nor were we even over an hour sat there so we’re well within any set table time. Surprised, I just paid it, but immediately afterwards felt a little annoyed at having to pay before we were even finished. Was asked by my wife not to say anything as to spoil the meal out. So top marks for the food, but perhaps that staff member was a little over eager.

A terrible experience from start to finish. We were there as a group of 6 so not a big group. We waited 45minutes for someone to take our order, which we had to prompt them to do. We ordered soft drinks and when they arrived they were all flat. We ordered 4 Sunday dinners, cod and chips, scampi and chips and a kids meal. The wait in itself was horrendous. The Sunday dinners arrived and then we had to wait another 15 minutes for the veg. The veg was very hard and the Yorkshire puddings were very oily and stale. Not one member of staff came over to ask if everything was okay or if we needed more drinks. We had to go to the bar ourselves for everything we wanted. Once we were finished a number of staff kept walking past looking at our table and not one of them came to clean the table. We went up to ask for the bill, after 20 minutes of the bill not arriving we went to the bar to pay. As we were ready to leave a member of staff came over to clear the table and ask if everything was okay, we told them all the issues that we had but the member of staff wasn’t really bothered about our complaints. Wouldn’t recommend this pub to anybody, the services was on another level.

Best meal out in ages, beautifully cooked gammon and accompaniments, lovely serving ladies, what a treat

After reading the reviews my wife and myself decided to try the Sun Inn today. The service was superb and all the staff were so friendly and welcoming and the food was absolutely fantastic. My wife had the lasagne which she said was delicious whilst I opted for the rump steak which was cooked exactly as I asked it to be and was one of the best I've tasted for years. Will definitely be returning.

Lovely food very friendly staff great service very reasonable price

Traditional pub with a lovely atmosphere. Often come here with friends for the Sunday pub quiz (8pm) - shout out to Phil who runs a brilliant quiz, made even better by the food at half-time. Only downside is that the drinks are a little pricey but overall it’s an excellent pub.

My review is primarily based on the Sunday evening pub quiz. The atmosphere is first class. The quiz is great and they serve food for everyone included in the price.. Only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is because the drinks are a little pricey. Good overall experience!

We were welcomed by an unwelcoming waitress and “have you got a table booked ?” after clarifying we did not were we were sternly warned it would be a 40 minute wait, despite not being put off by the cool welcome and the wait for food we took our seat. The restaurant was surprisingly quiet and no one appeared to be waiting for food. When I ordered the food I was again reminded the food would be 40 mins in case I had forgotten 5 minutes earlier. During our wait 2 chefs were back and forth trying to resolve an issue with a blocked gent’s toilet, not an ideal environment for chefs to be working, hopefully they at least washed their hands! After waiting close to an hour our food arrived which was thankfully good. Lasagne, steak and ale pie and a chicken kebab. After the meal I needed to use the toilet but as the gents was out of order I used the accessible toilet. Sadly this toilet was also broken as it didn’t flush and the tap was hanging off the sink. Pretty poor toilet facilities.

The rating of one star for food isn't because it was bad but because they stopped serving at 6:00. It would be helpful to advertise this - I was really looking forward to something to eat. Bar staff was helpful with other suggestions of where to eat and I'm sure I would have enjoyed the food had it been available

A regular haunt of ours, just good honest food at fair prices. Nice comfy setting and staff are friendly and obliging. Had the chilli and cheese wraps and they were very tasty and filling. Great little pub for a lunchtime meal!

We called in for a Sunday lunch having been to a festival in the area. I had the trio of meats and my partner had the roast lamb along with all the trimmings. I had telephoned the previous day to book but was told there were no tables but if we were to arrive early then we would get seated. We arrived for it opening at 12 and were one of the first in a large queue. As we didn’t book a table in advance we were given a bar table which was fine as it was pretty busy with those who had booked. The staff were very attentive with us and other diners too. The food arrived promptly and was absolutely delicious! Lots of meat, veg and a huge yorkhsire pud and an extra jug of lovely gravy. I had the sticky toffee pud to finish with which was also delicious! We will certainly be back soon!

My daughter (9) came here with her Dad when they were on holiday in the area a few weeks ago and she's been raving about it ever since, so they recently took me to see the place and I can see why she liked it so much. All of the staff were lovely and attentive but one member in particular, Megan, blew me away as she remembered my daughter, even down to her usual order, and made her feel so comfortable. They even had a hug at the end of the night. Oh and she got us some potato skins which weren't on the menu but were my daughter's favourite. Would definitely come back

We recently went with friends for a catch up. The initial service was great, however as things got quieter we found it was harder to attract a member of staffs attention to order additonal drinks anf desserts. The food here has been fabulous on every visit.

Lovely dog friendly pub. The staff were great and ensured the dogs were well looked after. The food was reasonably priced and although we had to wait a bit longer than I would have normally liked it was worth it. The food was amazing (chef's kiss). There was plenty of it and the quality was epic! The chips were really good and everyone in the family said it was very good. The atmosphere is good and I would definitely recommend coming here for lunch. I cannot understand the poor reviews as we found it to brilliant.

Service was really bad, had to wait 40 mins for a drink after order was taken, then still had to ask staff where they were, no staff attended our table, had to get up and go to the bar, leave my table to order deserts,as no staff to approach to give order too,then it was disgusting,cheesecake apparently, not like any cheesecake ive tried before. lamb I couldn't eat, really disappointed, sorry hate to give a bad review, it was bad.

Went there today drove 10 miles got there went In loads of people all enjoying a meal sat down went to get a menu someone came out and and said sorry not serving meals as a fan had gone down so all those other people must have got there meals In time or were locals who knows no apology just I can get you a drink if you want one for me bloody upset basically no dinner wasted petrol and time a big fat let down

We were ignored by the staff from the moment we arrived. No amount of eye contact would persuade them to take our drinks order, our food order, remove our empty plates, or bring us the dessert menu. Ai went to the bar three times to place drinks orders and ask for plates to be removed. Very disappointed with the service.

First time visit with some friends. Went after nine so the place was almost empty. Service and beer etc was nice. We created are own atmosphere as there was 10 of us. Pleasant place to visit, we have heard it does lovely food at lunch time so will have to visit then, if can get in. Popped in for a drink, couldn't get food as not booked a table. Busy but thinned out as the night wore on. Staff were very good and helpful.

Went in last week with my friend. Too much to choose from on menu. When I did finally choose it was absolutely delicious. Staff were all great and friendly too. I will be back. Lovely and clean too. Was really busy at the time too.

Sadly too many dogs.....it has spoiled the restaurant. Dogs were only allowed in the bar which was fine, but 7 dogs in an eating area and some were less than well behaved. Another worrying fact was our waitress was petting dogs as she was serving food..... whatever happened to basic food hygiene. We won't return sadly

The Sun Inn was welcoming and attractive. All the service staff were very friendly and polite. Portion sizes were very big and not for the faint hearted. Great menu, lots of choice, good food. What's not to like.

We stopped off here for some lunch and we left very satisfied. We were very impressed with the selection of high quality meals avaliable. The soup of the day was roasted vegetable with smoked pancetta, wow this was delicious. We also had the Atlantic prawn starter which was perfect consistency of prawns and sauce. The children had chicken nuggets which were homemade and absolutely the best we have ever tasted. We had the chicken and haggis, and lamb shepards pie for main which were both 10/10. High quality food, delightful vibe and excellent service and we will 100% be back here.

We always have the best meal here, so good for pub garden lunch. Such a lovely atmosphere and our favourite pub garden. Only thing I would say is they gave me a dirty glass and when asked for another I got another dirty glass so I just chose to drink out the bottle.

Great value at 2 mains and a bottle if wine for £30. Food was very good and the service was great. The only reason I've taken a star off is because we waited quite a long time for our food. However, we'll definitely be going back.

First visit for Sunday lunch and we will definitely be going back.We both had the beef and it was so tender and tasty and they don't skimp on the portions.Both had a dessert for afters and didn't need to have anything for the rest of the day.Nice atmosphere and attentive staff.

We call into the Sun Inn probably once or twice a month. Myself and my partner called in yesterday Friday 26th April for lunch. We both ordered fish and chips. We both agreed we have never had tastier fish and chips. The fish was cooked beautifully and I have never tasted batter like it. We told the waitress how beautiful the food was and she told us a new chef had just started and he was cooking today. We told her we noticed an improvement in the quality of the food. We will definitely be back more often after this experience.

Had metal in my onion rimgs, was asked if it was a filling, I don't have any fillings, two separate bits of metal, was pit off eating anymore, the side of chips to go with this meal arrived late I passed to one of my guests, was given £11 discount. My husbands arrived a while after his meal. He was given peppercorn sauce instead of Diane sauce, which another guest had requested to go with their steak, but that guest didn't get a steak cos there wasn't any steaks left, hence didn't need the sauce. To add insult to injury when getting the bill there was an extra £40+ on our bill, apparently new member of staff had added other customers food and drink on our bill. Absolutely disgusted, travelled from east lothian for my nephews birthday. Won't be back I work hard and don't expect to work out someone else's mistakes, and bits if metal in my meal. REALLY !!!

Firstly walking in on a wet coldish day was hoping to warm up inside no heating on which put me off straight away. Staff are polite and friendly and the food was excellent. Would of been 5 stars for everything if the heating was on.

Popped in for lunch on the way to Edinburgh. Great to see a pub so busy on Thursday lunchtime. Good food reasonably priced portions may be a little too big for me but I can't fault the quality whatsoever. Friendly and welcoming staff.

Perfect Sunday lunch , booked at the last minute but they fit us in, fantastic service and really really great value for money

Standards seem to be slipping, but maybe they just have the B team working on Saturdays? We’ve been regulars here for nearly 15yrs and have always loved it. It’s never been back to what it was before it closed due to the lockdown though unfortunately, maybe they lost some good staff during the shut down I don’t know. The last few times we have visited have been a Saturday which is why I mentioned. Maybe they have the B team working to save the better staff for the busy Sunday, but each of the last times we’ve been there has been small issues with the food but today I was really disappointed with my meal as half of what I was served was inedible! I ordered the belly pork, which I’ve had just about every visit in 2024. I’ve gotta admit that the “crispy” description on the menu is at best hitty/missy, some days great others it’s chewy. Maybe if consistency is beyond some other the kitchen staff then maybe it could be possible to remove the crackling and serve it up separately to make it easier, the meat though is usually spot on. My issue with today’s food and service though was that what menu describes as the “black pudding crushed potato” which I’ve had easily 10+ times and enjoyed, was on this occasion totally inedible! There was other things mixed into it, which I’d imagine from a H&S stand is a big no as we were not asked about allergies! The stack had a massively overpowering smoked flavour to it, it was like eating a kipper! I gave my wife a taste and she immediately spat it out! It was foul! I was just about finished the belly pork and veg when a waiter came over to ask how our food was and I mentioned how unhappy I was with the item, he went to ask the kitchen what was different and came back and said sometimes they add pancetta to it…. Now I’ve had pancetta and I do think there was pancetta in it, but I’ve never had any that tasted as strong as that! He did offer to bring me some chips or mash instead but I only had a couple of mouthfuls of food left so I declined, all the waiter said was “I’m sorry you didn’t like it” and walked off. A while later when everyone was finished eating a blonde waitress came to clear our plates and asked how everything was….. again I explained my disappointment in my (obviously) untouched black pudding potato, again the response was “sorry” and she took our plates. Now I wasn’t expecting a free meal or anything but an offer to knock a few pounds off for the obviously untouched item would of been reasonable thing to do, since the item was not as described on the menu, and unlike it has been on any of the numerous times I’ve had it. If this is to be the recipe going forward then please say so on the menu, not just for people that could be allergic to any of the unmentioned ingredients but also for the people that don’t was kipperesque flavoured spuds with their belly pork! Also can I appeal to the management to bring back a proper specials board! It brought more variety for regular visitors that could get bored with the same menu for months on end. It was great to come and get swordfish or a nice lamb rump dish now and again yet since lockdown the “specials” board has been 1: soup of the day 2: Roast meat sarnie 3: a Sausage….. I’m sorry but non of which come across in any way as “Special”

We called in for lunch and the food was fresh, well cooked and presented. No issues complying with covid protocols as they seemed to be well organised and the staff were really helpful.
