Fish Shack in Northumberland

Very nice, we arrived to drink a couple of beers overlooking the ocean and in the end we stopped for a tapas dinner... recommended!

So sorry but the food was not good and expensive. There was no fish in our battered fish. It was greasy and made me ill. Staff were lovely but I think they have problems here. They got our bill massively incorrect three times too. Shame because the setting is really quirky.

Extremely enjoyable first visit. We found the staff very accommodating and friendly, really good service. The food was absolutely delicious 10/10 couldn't fault a thing. Dog friendly which is a plus. Will definitely return when in the area.

Twinkly and cosy on a dreich day. Spectacularly good seafood - especially the mackerel pate, and the whitebait - (and the fish and chips and chowder on the next table also looked and smelt fantastic) - staff friendly, smiley, patient and accommodating. Loved it.

Nice enough place, gorgeous views, food is ok, not outstanding. At £62 for 2 adult fish and chips, 2 glasses of coke and 1 child portion, I would have expected more. Very overpriced for what you get, and was a little miffed that they added a £6 service charge onto the bill as well for what basically amounted to our food being brought to our table 🤷‍♀️🙄

I had whitebait and squid cooked perfect. so recommend this place staff were welcoming and a great atmosphere

Lovely place to eat - particularly the boat-cabins outside! Food wasn't quite as fancy as venue and menu would suggest, but still very good. Super friendly staff.

We had lunch at this place, absolutely fantastic! It's a little out of the way, so you have to go looking for it, but it is worth it. They are dog friendly too👍

Well I was kinda unwell after having the calamari and the mussels but I thoroughly enjoyed eating them and I would probably do it all over again so that tells you how good the food is. Either I have a newly discovered intolerance or there was a rouge mussle in there somewhere. The view out was beautiful and the interior is so unique and endearing. Would love to have stayed for a drink!

Decided to visit here today with my husband and daughter! The food was good but I think slightly overpriced, but what has left me with a sour taste in my mouth is the older shorter lady! Our food came and the chips were darker than David Dickinsons face !!! When I asked if we could get them remade she didn't look at all pleased and the way she spoke to me was just disgusting! If it's too much trouble to re do a bowl full of chips when spending 150 quid for 3 people then you really need a good shake ! Your customer service was shocking! Safe to say we won't ever be back .

Just popped in for a coffee but given great service.

Went to the fish shack for a meal with friends and family who we hadn’t seen in a while. Food was overall good but service was poor. My mum booked a table for 6 in the main front room but when we arrived we were sat by the kitchen in the back. When we asked one of the waitresses she looked like she couldn’t care less. When our food arrived, one of the waitresses placed a burning hot bowl of mussels into my hands and had the cheek to say “have you got that”. There was one lady in her 50s who was very attentive but a lot of the younger staff looked so miserable and made us feel like we were an inconvenience just being there. Overall seafood was delicious but chips were very oily and bread was almost raw. Will be going to the Old Boathouse moving forward as service is a lot better and food more up to scratch.

We traveled a long way to visit, and were quite disappointed. We both ordered fish and chips which arrived promptly. I asked the waitress for some salt and vinegar, and she pointed at the box she was leaning against and said it’s there if you wanted. She then went back to her mobile like the other 2, The batter was so deep fried in my wife’s case it was impenetrable. I told the waitress who then asked that apart from the food….how is it! The chips were nice as was the tartare sauce which although I’d asked for extra, it never turned up. We were then given an order of drinks for another table. Who’s running this place? So near and yet so unfortunately far. A rudderless gem that just needs a better manager, and a chef capable of frying fish. Oh, and they have the Gaul to charge a 10% service charge!

Really is a shack but a comfortable one. Service excellent food the freshest fish you can get and cooked to perfection.

We went ( fam of 4 plus pooch) for an evening in a shed! Really really enjoyed everything about this place...food..setting..staff...drinks ...was a great experience and all at a very reasonable price....would definitely recommend and will definitely return !! Ps ...fantastic fish and chips!!

Very disappointed with the fish and chips,too much batter on the fish ,chips were soggy ,mushy peas tasteless everyone else’s food looked great.

Went to amble with my family and dog … all my dog did was bark and spoil other people’s experience… sorry about that … onto the food well to say I was disappointed is an understatement the rating was high on google I can’t see why as it’s extremely overpriced and the food is mediocre it’s quite a cramped establishment as well also don’t agree with a 10% service charge certainly wouldn’t return

Great place to have a meal. Advisable to book but we did get a table for a short time but long enough to eat. Love the trip of drink to try and the food was really good 😊

Excellent food. We had two small plates to share - the tempura whitebait with chilli sauce and harissa sardines with toast and a side of twice cooked chips. All delicious. Service was exceptional friendly. Lovely atmosphere looking out over the harbour.

The quirkiness of this restaurant is rapidly being diminished by the forever rising prices.

Stunning food, and the service was brilliant. We got a range of tapas style dishes so we could try a few bits. Everything was fresh and very tasty. The atmosphere is again great, if you like friendly people and chatting along with others dining then this is a great choice for you. Also dog friendly, which for us is a plus instead of just your pubs!!!

This place was great. Meal was lovely. We understand that the fish they serve are landed that morning.

The langoustines are amazing . So fresh. Beats lobster any day in taste and price . Best seafood we've ever had in England.

First visit today. Hopefully won't be the last. Had a table overlooking the harbour. Food was sublime. Just could not fault anything at all. Superb staff made our visit even better.

Nice staff and surroundings, but the fish n chip was over cooked and the oil needed changing as the food tasted burnt, good choice on the menu everything was a bit pricey including the drinks

Wonderful good in a great location. Must be amazing in spring and summer. Good value too. Menu is quite seafood heavy, so if you aren't liking the fish and shellfish then options are limited, but they do have options.

Staff were super friendly and the decor is just beautiful. Lovely food for a good price and some great tunes. Would totally recommend if you in the area and over all just fabulous.

Brilliant place! So friendly, nice atmosphere on a Thursday evening. And the food was fantastic. Seriously some of the best squid I've had. And lovely scallops with Asian style lentils. Highly recommended. Well done to this team.

First time the Fish Shack and I was not disappointed. Whole roasted sea bream with roasted whole potatoes and delicious grilled vegetables. It was so good and I was very pleased to have options other than standard fried fish and chips. Options for non fish eaters were also very good, my other half opting for a lamb lofta dish which was very delicious also. Definitely recommend. Lovely river views!

Absolutely outstanding food lovely staff and great surroundings. Table a little small and room a bit chilly but still worth a visit. Would happily return.

Went here New Years eve, lovely staff member showed us to our Shack. We ordered the one and only bottle of Fizz on the menu to celebrate the New Year, never tasted anything so bad ! £26 for a bottle ! Food was tasty, but portions were small and not as advertised. We ordered the Linguine with Hake, when Penne arrived and we questioned it, we were abruptly informed that it was Linguine !! £27 gets you a piece of Hake the size of a sardine tin, 4 small prawns and a sprinkle of Chorizo. The Seabass and Shellfish Medley were better value and looked more substantial for the money. Last thing was the 10% service charge added to the bill. Hut was a different venue to eat in, was cosy but more could have been made of it, especially over the Festive period.

Went for lunch. Lovely menu ,great selection. Perfectly cooked and presented. Large portions. Every server was helpful and charming. Great atmosphere. Will be back

Had a lovely late lunch here after a long beach walk just before Christmas. We hadn't booked but they were able to fit the two of us and Murphy, our labrador in. Quirky place, just like a shack but with home comforts and great staff. Can't wait to visit again.👏

Food served by staff cooked by chefs who know how to make you the customer, think that you're wrong and they are right! This refers to an evening meal on the 21st November. My wife and I were celebrating an anniversary and decided as we do on special occasions, treat ourselves to a nice meal. Usually at either the Boat House or the Fish shack. We booked early doors and for a starter we decided upon mussels. My wife cannot eat garlic, and we asked if it was possible to have the mussels in a sauce without garlic in. Not a problem we were told. We ordered our mains and drinks and waited. When the mussels arrived my wife straight away told the waitress that there was garlic in the dish. We were told there wasn't. It was apparent to both of us there was. I spoke to the chef. He looked me in the eye and said there was no garlic in the mussels. Foolishly I ate them. My wife was not given an alternative dish, as everyone of the staff were adamant no garlic was present. Sad to say what should have been a good night turned out to be a bad. It got worse when we got home. I slept in the spare bed as I 'reeked' of garlic from a dish that didn't have any garlic ingredients. Such a shame as we did like the Fish Shack. My wife complained to the management the following day. As yet we've not even had an acknowledgement. Not good. And we won't be dining there again.

Ordered langoustines in garlic butter, looked like dishwater. Husband ordered lobster Thermidor, the lobster meat was the size of a large prawn. Overall experience was not good. Over priced and to top it all charged 10% service charge

LOVED this place. Cute small shack with a good view of the water AND you get a cozy blanket at your table. The food was excellent and at a good cost. If I didn’t live in the US I’d be a regular.

Very Very expensive, we walked out and went to the cafe, great food great service and lots cheaper.

We’ve been here a few times over the summer. Today we brought some visitors from down south and it was beautiful. Lovely Christmas decorations, excellent service and atmosphere and the food was delicious. Thanks for taking such good care of us. We’ll be back again

A great find on a holiday last year. Returned in winter. Food just as good. Right on quayside in Amble. Doesn't look much from outside but a real gem. Great food and atmosphere. Will return.

My food arrived when the rest of my group were half way through the meal. Have had much nicer food from takeaways. Rather disappointed.

Finally managed have the lobster with a really nice starter of black pudding and scallops. Wow !! Can't wait to go again.

Possibly the best fish and chips ever! We visited twice during our holiday and both times the food and service was excellent. Can't wait to go back

The Fish Shack is one of two seafood restaurants within a stone’s throw of each other. All part of the same company. The food, as you might expect is dominated by sea-life. The atmosphere is friendly and close. It’s not a venue with lots of space. The kitchen overlooks the seating area where you’re seating in close proximity to your neighbours. It’s worth a visit and extremely popular with locals.

Marvellous food and excellent service. Couldn’t be better.

Lovely place, as you'd expect, as the boats land their catches opposite, heavily fish based menu. But there are alternatives.

A really lovely lunch one Saturday in October for 3 generations of our family. As Grandma said, "We've never had a bad meal at The Fish Shack". Super food, great, friendly, reliable service and super accommodation of a relative on crutches. Highly, highly recommend.

Popped in just for a nice hot coffee but have visited many times. Great place in Amble. Stunning views. Warkworth Castle visible overlooking the river. Outside seating area too. What's not to like about the Fish Shack. You pay a little more than average but that comes with the location and stunning view.

Located on the harbour at Amble. We ate super fresh fish looking at the boats that had caught and landed it. Dining in a cosy garden shed like structure seating for six. Comfortably heated.

If you want seafood, this is the place to go. Fantastic food, great service, and on the harbour side. We asked if we could book a taxi to get back to our hotel, that was just out of town. There wasn’t any available, however the manager said she would take us back… thank you guys 😜 We will be back 😊

What a wonderful place. One of the best fish meals we have ever eaten! Really lovely staff. We ate in one of the pods which was a great experience . Has its own heater and cosy lighting, call button for service. Staff very attentive . Would highly recommend. D,C. Sheffield

Recommend the crayfish salad here - it was superb. We ate in one of the little "huts" which was lovely. Waitress was a bit brisk but service was quick.

Good service. Had crayfish salad to start. The crayfish had no flavour?? Never experienced that before, when I have bought crayfish from the market. Tried a couple of muscles off someone else's starter, and they were beautiful!. Tuna steak for my main. Absolutely lovely.

Great food, nice place. We sat in one of the sheds they have outside as it was easier as had our dogs with us but the restaurant is dog friendly.

Fantastic place great food with the best company I could have had

Planned a trip up to the Northeast to meet up with a couple of friends from a previous company we all worked at. Our resident guide (from the N.E) asked what we would like for tea. We decided on fish and chips and he highly recommended the Fish Shack. This has to be the best fish and chips that I have ever had. This was a very nice place to come with some old work colleagues and eat with some very good company. Food was priced accordingly, expensive, and amazing. You pay for what is absolute quality. If I ever return, this will be one on the agenda to re-visit. Thanks,

Great staff and fantastic food. Crispy light batter on nice chunky cod with quick service despite the full restaurant. And with a great view over the harbor as well for all you 'grammers

Well worth the visit. Great service, delicious food and we could take our pooch, Roxy, inside too. Opted for the fish and chips but regret not having lobster instead.

A little disappointed with the food, worked out at £45 per head. Don’t think we will return.

Very good fish menu, sadly the heritage potatoes served with my fish had seen better days, dry and reheated I think!

I don't normally write negative reviews too much but after making a mistake calling in here i feel it is necessary. Our first mistake was to think this was the best place for fish and chips in Amble as it was the first we came across. We then made the mistake of ordering without checking prices thanks to a very abrupt and short server. We waited longer than others who ordered after us for food (the girl who brought the food did apologise, 2 out of 3 members of staff were very friendly). Despite boasting award winning food, the fish and chips were a major let down in terms of taste. Fish was a good size but chips were in short supply. Then came the bill...just under £50 for fish and chips twice with 2 soft drinks. I expect to pay more in seaside venues, but seriously.... Needles to say we won't be returning here. As we walked around we found 2 other chippys nearby. I can't comment on their food but i can guarantee a more reasonable pricing structure.

I saw this restaurant on the Hairy bikers and was immediately needing to go! My partner had the mackerel pâté and I had scallops and black pudding with a carrot puree to start. We both had langoustines with chips for our main. I had a local beer too that was delicious. All the food was amazing, simply cooked to perfection. I can't wait to go back and try some of other tantalising dishes on the menu.

Brilliant plaice to visit. Seafood is delicious and staff very helpful..always go there as it's super dog friendly and food delicious 👍
