Absolutely wonderful meal and atmosphere yesterday as I said if I’m ever coming for seafood then this is the place we are coming to. The menu is so good we could easily spend the whole day just eating. Add the views of the sea and harbour just amazing. Next time sharing platter for 1 ;-). Dog friendly aswell which is a massive plus

A return visit as really enjoyed previous trips, brought friends to sample it but unfortunately this time it felt very very overpriced for what we had. We opted for several small plates for 4 of us as we were spoilt for choice and the specialboard read so well. The 8 fresh oysters to begin with were delicious. This then followed with prawn salad / cocktail, lacked flavour and not really enough sauce a small extra amount was brought when asked. The Scallops off the special board again were hot and fresh and tasty. Another special Cajun whitebait served on a flat bread with salad really did lack flavour, very little whitebait and the batter was just too thick, not good at all, it was more bread and salad than fish unfortunately. Pil pil prawns were very tasty, nice big shell on prawns. One main issue was we did feel very slightly rushed as the food arrived nearly all together but as the table just wasn't big enough to hold the food it was a balancing act. What a shame but we feel it now has top restaurant prices but unfortunately a cafe style atmosphere.

Some iffy reviews of this place from the last few months, which we hadn't seen before we booked. Glad we didn't, because we had some of the best food we've tasted. Wow! Yum and delicious. What an absolute treat to eat here. Food was excellent and the staff were super friendly, smiling and and generally brill. It might not be the cheapest but quantity and quality far outweigh that little, miniscule, negative. The quality of the fish was wonderful and all the dishes we had were wonderfully tasteful. Our dishes included fish and chips, hake with celeriac chips and mushy peas, samphire and pancetta and super tasty local langoustine in a chilli/garlic, buttery sauce. OMG! Super good. The atmosphere was casual, light and airy with excellent views over the harbour and surrounding area. Parking availability is very good and it is also a short walk into town and other attractions. Really, really good and highly recommended.

This was our 3rd visit, each for our wedding anniversary. This time we had an addition with us, a boisterous 10 month old Labrador. We were worried about how he would react being in small venue, and so at the time of our reservation we requested to use one of the huts. We had no reason to worry, the hut had plenty of space for the 3 of us. Our waitress was lovely and attentive and nothing was too much bother for her. The sharing platter, when it came was delicious. It was clear that everything, the crab, prawns, seabream and the squid were as fresh as could be. We have absolutely no complaints and look forward to next years visit.

Having walked in without reservation on a Tuesday lunchtime at about 12.30 my wife and I were quite lucky to get a table in what is obviously a popular restaurant, despite the mixed reviews. We immediately found the service friendly and attentive. We shared three small plates, beautifully presented and nicely prepared; mussels in a white wine, garlic, parsley and cream sauce, scallops with black pudding and a cauliflower puree, and monkfish with a carrot puree. The fish was of good quality and seemed very fresh. My only small criticisms are that the portions, other than the mussels, could have been larger although they were adequate for us as a light lunch, and could have been served warmer and on hot plates. As we had told the waitress when she took our order that we were sharing these small plates, it would have been preferable for them to have been brought to the table in sequence, tapas style, rather than all at the same time. But none of this spoiled our overall enjoyment of a very pleasant lunch.

Went here for our tea after being recommend it by others. The service was polite and efficient and food was nicely presented. However, we found it very overpriced for what was. £4.50 for a small side of chips. Fish and chips were £19.50 (or so) and there seemed more batter than fish. The menu in smallprint mentioned a 10% additional service charge as optional. However when looking at the receipt we found that this 10% charge had been added to the bill automatically without asking us if we wanted to select it. Receipt even said "optional charge". The sweet potato puree with my monkfish was more than just a garnish... absolutely delicious. Went for the crab as my main. The small potatoes were so firm and crispy. How do you get waxy new potatoes that crispy!!? They were superb. The lightly pickled carrot ribbons in the salad were also great and went perfectly with the dressed crab. My wife had the sea bream which was perfectly cooked. Cocktails were on the money and I can recommend their Negroni. Overall, a charmingly rustic place with great staff and interesting views. The pizza was okay but not as good as I would expect from such a restaurant. The fish was excellent, after all it is Amble. However, let’s get to the numb of the matter, the chips. They don’t do what they say. They are supposed to be thrice cooked chips and are not crispy as elsewhere and sadly overcooked. This should be easy to to remedy and really improve the meals so please do so. A contributing factor to the score was the variable service. In the case of the friends meal it really wasn’t great, whereas the second time the lady was really helpful. The business really needs consistency.

Saw this place on The Hairy Bikers TV show and had to call in and try an oyster and remember much missed Dave Myers. Happy to say we had no ill effects from our dare you to try oyster experience despite some obvious shards of shattered shell. Sadly the scallops were a bit odd tasting - I wondered if it might have been the attached roe but I actually think it could have been the slightly gloomy sweetcorn relish or the extremely poor black pudding. Not a successful dish unfortunately. Our son had the haddock bites and chips which he enjoyed. I've seen a lot of comments about the chips being poor but they were fine, maybe be a bit old and had been re-cooked a couple of times - they reminded me of school chips. Nice drinks and lovely staff - good table overlooking the harbour too. A little on the pricey side for what we had but just about worth it for the experience. Adieu DM - thanks for the nudge towards our first oyster.

We both had Prawn Pil Pil as starters which were great but we were not given serviettes, we had to ask for them and the finger bowl arrived after about 5 mins after the food We had to peel the prawns with our hands so, this was not good enough. My main course, again excellent, but my wifes did not arrive, apparently a problem with the till! I had finished by the time my wifes meal arrived. In fairness the waitress was very apologetic and we were spared the service charge. Hopefully this was a one off. If in the area I would happily use this restaurant again . Beautiful restaurant by the water, incredible view and fantastic quality. Probably the best oysters I’ve ever had; and a great New England chowder!! Worth to note: the prices reflect the quality of the fish, not the quantity. Portions are relatively small. On the “room for improvement” category, I would suggest separating the oyster of the shell to make the customer’a life easier, and, as a Spaniard, gambas al pil pil ALWAYS need to be “peeled”. All in all a great experience.

The first course arrived and we could not praise enough, my partner had squid I had prawns, both were absolutely outstanding. We waited a while for second course and when it arrived, part of it was wrong, they did apologise and said would only be charged for what was initially ordered (which was cheaper). But both mains were cold, they did offer to re make but as we had waited a while we declined the offer. The haddock was more batter than fish, which was disappointing. When the bill came they had charged us for a cocktail that we did not have, and a fairly substantial service charge is automatically added to the bill!! Once the price of the cocktail had been deducted we did pay the bill in full. However, it was a rather disappointing meal. ☹️

Just returned to The Fish Shack. The mackerel was fresh and perfectly cooked. Everyone was friendly and efficient. It’s a highlight of a visit to Northumberland.

The bar staff at the Anchor put you off straight away, a grimace over at the children as soon as we entered, I had been told that this was not a welcoming pub to those with children. A really awful atmosphere and over priced food. The pub is always empty which in a small village must be a sign that they do not engage well with the local community. A smile and 'hello' would go a long way, we'll not be back here. Watch out for the massive empty parking lot with an extortionate fine if you forget to enter your reg. Entering reg is well sign posted however in an empty space that big I wonder is it really necessary?
