Lovely location, service and atmosphere. Very helpful with meeting allergy needs. Great food. Not cheap but excellent quality.

We stopped off here for a pint and bite to eat, lovely spot we would highly recommend. The only reason for the four stars on the food was there was no poached egg in the chowder, although it was still 🙂.

Fabulous food and pretty environment. Set in the most picturesque place, you can even book little private sheds which have been decorated so you can eat by yourselves.

The service was exceptional. A really nice feel to the place. Fantastic views. Probably the best fish and chips I have ever had. We will defiantly be returning when in the area.

We were recommended the fish shack and it definitely was as good as we had been led to believe it to be. The smoked haddock fish chowder was delicious and all the other dishes coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. The staff were all very helpful and very friendly. We arrived without a booking and they found a table for us, though it was a cold Monday in February. I would recommend booking a table.

Sorry disappointed. Most courses except plain fish dishes have far too many ingredients which obliterate the lovely natural flavours of the fish. Not necessary less is more. Ill go back in a years time and report back. The same applied to the Boat House 2 years ago.

3rd time here, made the mistake of ordering the fish platter, definitely not worth 90£. Food previously has been excellent but this really lets the place down.

One of the best seafood platters we had ever. It has a nice mix - dressed crab, whole roasted sea bream, mussels, tiger prawns..etc. Also perfectly cooked and reasonably priced, great staff and dog friendly too. Highly recommended, probably we’re coming back again soon x

Fantastic and friendly seafood restaurant offering a great selection of locally sourced seafood that is excellent quality, perfectly cooked and reasonably priced, it has a cosy rustic interior with the added advantage of being dog friendly, it’s always busy so booking is recommended.

Excellent array of options on the menu. We opted for a selection of tapas and each was excellent. The cod bites were so crispy and delicious that we’ve decided to have a main portion fish and chips next time. It gets busy, even in January, so it’s worth booking to avoid disappointment. Really friendly service.

Very disappointed. The saving grace for haddock and chips was the batter. We consider the food to be overpriced. The fish was dry/old (the fish shop selling that days catch is on the harbour) the salad soggy (had been stored too long in the fridge) and chips looked/tasted many times fried. I was really looking fwd to eating here as had great experience with previous owners.

Have eaten here before inside and enjoyed my meal and the atmosphere very much. This time they only had a hut available. 6 of us squeezed into a cold wooden hut with very lacklustre decor. I went in and asked if there was any alternative as we were cold and they said they could come and turn the heater on. It was a squeeze with 6 of us and every time the waitress opened the door we froze again so we ate with our coats on. The food was ok, nothing special and service disjointed because they were coming back and forth to the hut - waitresses were great but it looked very hard work for them. £350 for a meal for 6 of us. Would recommend the fish shack just not the huts.

Ordered fish and chips with garden peas. The fish was wonderful, but the chips were very sad, having a taste of old soft potatoes. When asked if the meal was ok I told the staff of the problem with the chips. Nothing happened except being told the potatoes were fresh? I ate my fish and peas but left the chips as these were not good. When the plates were collected from our table I again informed the staff why the chips were left. After waiting sometime in a not so busy restaurant I gave up and said to my wife we can have a desert at home as I was hungry. I then asked for the bill which came with a service charge added. I asked for the service charge to be removed due to the poor quality chips, again nothing suggested from the staff. Within a few minutes I was presented with a new bill with service charge removed. No offer of replacement chips or anything else. I don’t think I shall visit here again as they’re my favourite fish and chip restaurants with better quality and not such extravagant pricing.

Our third visit to The Fish Shack and it never disappoints. We were in one of the huts outside and it was cozy warm and really special. The food was sensational. The crabcakes and squid were the best we’ve had in a long time and the giant fish and chips never disappoints! Mia and the team were absolutely brilliant, highly recommended. Please come and visit if you’re in Amble. Thanks so much ❤️

Very friendly and welcoming staff, cosy restaurant with lovely harbour view. Food wise for my liking the soup was a bit too creamy, less cream more crispy onions and toasted bread maybe sourdough rather than white bread and fish and chips the batter was too greasy and chips a bit soft

Very tasty starters, but very pricey and small portions. Fish and chips for just under £20. Fish lovely, but chips soft and greasy. Nice place but very expensive.

We had an excellent meal at the fish shack, I would recommend the fish platter as it has a wide variety of great tasting seafood...

My Wife and I called in for coffee and scones, coffee ok scones very poor. Sitting outside but you have to go into the shack through weird access , found it confusing and not at all suited to people with mobility problems.

Absolutely wonderful meal and atmosphere yesterday as I said if I’m ever coming for seafood then this is the place we are coming to. The menu is so good we could easily spend the whole day just eating. Add the views of the sea and harbour just amazing. Next time sharing platter for 1 ;-). Dog friendly aswell which is a massive plus

Been waiting a long time since seeing it featured on TV. It didn't disappoint. Great food. A menu with something for everyone served by pleasant friendly staff. Also a great place to just enjoy the ambiance and the lovely view.

A return visit as really enjoyed previous trips, brought friends to sample it but unfortunately this time it felt very very overpriced for what we had. We opted for several small plates for 4 of us as we were spoilt for choice and the specialboard read so well. The 8 fresh oysters to begin with were delicious. This then followed with prawn salad / cocktail, lacked flavour and not really enough sauce a small extra amount was brought when asked. The Scallops off the special board again were hot and fresh and tasty. Another special Cajun whitebait served on a flat bread with salad really did lack flavour, very little whitebait and the batter was just too thick, not good at all, it was more bread and salad than fish unfortunately. Pil pil prawns were very tasty, nice big shell on prawns. One main issue was we did feel very slightly rushed as the food arrived nearly all together but as the table just wasn't big enough to hold the food it was a balancing act. What a shame but we feel it now has top restaurant prices but unfortunately a cafe style atmosphere.

Excellent food in a lovely setting. Food is fresh cooked, so do allow time for it to be prepared. The terrace is also good for harbourside drinks and they have a selection of small plates.

We visited Amble for my birthday, and had such a fantastic evening at The Dish Shack. The staff who served us were so welcoming and funny, and we had the ultimate dinner of the fish platter. It’s a lovely relaxed atmosphere, great tunes and high quality food for great value. We will definitely revisit.

Great service, lovely food and amazing setting. We were a party of 5 including 2 school aged children. Portion sizes were very generous. We had two large haddock, the children had the small haddock and there was one fish bites and chips off the tapas menu. Would highly recommend.

The food is the star here. Super fresh seafood. Lots of choice prepared with skill. The service was a bit slow so dropped rating a star. The place is nicely appointed but you can see it started out as a shack. Go.

Some iffy reviews of this place from the last few months, which we hadn't seen before we booked. Glad we didn't, because we had some of the best food we've tasted. The fish and seafood platter looked expensive, but was huge (fed 3 of us, but would suit 4). Top quality stuff and brilliantly prepared. Fantastic location, overlooking the trawlers in the harbour. Beautifully situated on the Quay side of Amble. This place is an absolute gem. Best fish and chips around. Could of sat all day and sampled the great sea food on offer. Already planned my next trip

Wow! Yum and delicious. What an absolute treat to eat here. Food was excellent and the staff were super friendly, smiling and and generally brill. It might not be the cheapest but quantity and quality far outweigh that little, miniscule, negative. The quality of the fish was wonderful and all the dishes we had were wonderfully tasteful. Our dishes included fish and chips, hake with celeriac chips and mushy peas, samphire and pancetta and super tasty local langoustine in a chilli/garlic, buttery sauce. OMG! Super good. The atmosphere was casual, light and airy with excellent views over the harbour and surrounding area. Parking availability is very good and it is also a short walk into town and other attractions. Really, really good and highly recommended.

This was our 3rd visit, each for our wedding anniversary. This time we had an addition with us, a boisterous 10 month old Labrador. We were worried about how he would react being in small venue, and so at the time of our reservation we requested to use one of the huts. We had no reason to worry, the hut had plenty of space for the 3 of us. Our waitress was lovely and attentive and nothing was too much bother for her. The sharing platter, when it came was delicious. It was clear that everything, the crab, prawns, seabream and the squid were as fresh as could be. We have absolutely no complaints and look forward to next years visit.

Very disappointed worst fish n chips I've had over cooked and dry and my husband had monkfish which was very overcooked:they should concentrate on quality and stop relying on an over egged reputation

Having walked in without reservation on a Tuesday lunchtime at about 12.30 my wife and I were quite lucky to get a table in what is obviously a popular restaurant, despite the mixed reviews. We immediately found the service friendly and attentive. We shared three small plates, beautifully presented and nicely prepared; mussels in a white wine, garlic, parsley and cream sauce, scallops with black pudding and a cauliflower puree, and monkfish with a carrot puree. The fish was of good quality and seemed very fresh. My only small criticisms are that the portions, other than the mussels, could have been larger although they were adequate for us as a light lunch, and could have been served warmer and on hot plates. As we had told the waitress when she took our order that we were sharing these small plates, it would have been preferable for them to have been brought to the table in sequence, tapas style, rather than all at the same time. But none of this spoiled our overall enjoyment of a very pleasant lunch.

I had the haddock and my wife had the monkfish. Both fantastic. Service was great as well, couldn't ask for more. Thank you!

It's a bit on the pricey side, but the fish & chips were very good. We loved eating in the little outdoor hut, and the menu had a wide variety. Make sure you book ahead!

Just eaten a fabulous lunch. We opted for the tapas dishes. The chowder was delicious and paired with the twice cooked chips, beautiful! The staff were very good with communicating to the kitchen and back to us about my husband's allergies. Dog friendly, great service and extensive menu, what's not to like.

What a surprise to find a lovely sea food place. Not big in side with beach huts outside you can eat in. And outside eating.

Went here for our tea after being recommend it by others.The service was polite and efficient and food was nicely presented. However, we found it very overpriced for what was. £4.50 for a small side of chips. Fish and chips were £19.50 (or so) and there seemed more batter than fish. The menu in smallprint mentioned a 10% additional service charge as optional. However when looking at the receipt we found that this 10% charge had been added to the bill automatically without asking us if we wanted to select it. Receipt even said "optional charge". Not what is was hyped up to be.

This place is a gem. We had a table overlooking the dock as a fishing boat unloaded it's langoustines. Fascinating. The food was exceptionally good. We had monkfish to start, my wife had the prawns. The sweet potato puree with my monkfish was more than just a garnish... absolutely delicious. Went for the crab as my main. The small potatoes were so firm and crispy. How do you get waxy new potatoes that crispy!!? They were superb. The lightly pickled carrot ribbons in the salad were also great and went perfectly with the dressed crab. My wife had the sea bream which was perfectly cooked. Cocktails were on the money and I can recommend their Negroni. Overall, a charmingly rustic place with great staff and interesting views. I wish I didn't live 230 miles away but will be back before I die!!

Dropped in on this little place when travelling. Fantastic location and views. Service was spot on. We had traditional fish and chips which were the best I have eaten in years. I also had food envy for every other dish I saw going past.

We were very happy to be able to walk in on the evening we travelled through Amble. We’ve been a few times and they are always very friendly and welcoming. We ordered a selection of starters to share, Moules , squid, tiger prawns and mackerel pate, olives, bread etc . All delicious, followed by fish and chips and cod bites and scampi. Everything was delicious, hot, fantastic tasty ingredients and superbly cooked and served. Always a great treat here. And we’ll be back ASAP, always 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟😍😍

I booked in with the family mid afternoon to try this place out. Situated on the harbour the restaurant offers perfect sea views (overlooking the harbour) making for a great location! Inside the restaurant is quirky and intimate and the staff very friendly! On the menu there was plenty to have a go at! and great to see the catch of the day sourced locally! We kept it simple having fish and chips which were to the best of quality and ample in portion size. We couldn't fault our experience here and would highly recommend!

Very disappointed. Ordered the chowder it came nearly warm, returned it came back reheated with an apology from the chef, my husband ordered the fish and chips which the fish was over cooked and the plate was full of oil from the fish... The portion size of mushy peas was embarrassing.... We were expecting great things but unfortunately we were very disappointed. On a positive our waitress was friendly and pleasant.

We went on busy bank holiday Monday. The staff were very busy but remained friendly and hospitable. The food took a while but only to be expected given how busy they are. Staff kept us informed and made sure we always had drinks and blankets. Shout out to Michelle who was just lovely! 🥰

We turned up tonight without booking,the waitress offered us the only unreserved tables that were outside,we accepted that & chose one & ordered,a few minutes after our food was served it started to rain,within seconds,the young waitress came out & asked us to follow her inside as she had checked & a reserved table was empty for around another 45 mins,this showed us that she really did care about the customers,she went the extra mile for us,the food was excellent the 3 female & 1 male staff members that dealt with us were all very welcoming & polite,this is the reason that nearly the tables were pre booked,what a great team!.
