Barluga Morpeth in Northumberland

Nice atmosphere with a really good varied menu. Service was good. A great location in the centre of town. Harrisa Chicken was cooked well, I would recommend.

The food here is beautiful. great portion sizes, speedy food service. A little bit over priced but it is in the centre of morpeth.

Exceptional...as always. Sunday meal for family of 4 upstairs. Not been in a while but food , service from everyone and overall atmosphere can't be beaten in Morpeth. Quite possibly the cleanest and best managed establishment in town . You can tell extremely well trained staff when it doesn't matter who is on duty..the standards never drop . Look forward to returning

Went to barluga tonight with my fiance, had the valentines menu myself and my other half opted for a burger. The duck spring rolls and slaw were to die for! (Best I've ever had, full of flavour!) Salmon was beautifully cooked and the sauce complimented it very well. Burger was also tasty and well presented. Both had the brownie for desert which was equally as nice! Cocktails were very nice and were on 2-4-1 even better! Will definitely be back to try more of the menu. Complements to the chef! And waitress was very nice also 🙂

First time trying Barluga tonight, Beautiful place, attened with my fiance and had the valentines menu. The food was beautiful ❤️ duck spring rolls with the slaw were to die for! Had the salmon as a main and the brownie for desert. Chefs did amazingly and the waitress was very pleasant to. Definitely be back to try more of the menu.

We called in here for dinner on Wednesday night, without a reservation, which appeared to be one of their quieter nights as there was few tables occupied. We were quickly seated, with menus provided and drinks ordered which is always a positive. The menu was very appetising which also included a special menu for Burns Night. We eventually ordered one of the soup of the day and chilli beef for starters and then fishcakes and a beef burger for mains. From start to finish, the food was all delicious and the portions of excellent size, the chunky chips are a definite recommendation. The chilli beef was exceptional and the fishcakes were full of taste and flavour. The restaurant itself is lovely and has been very well styled. A special mention to Kelsey our waitress, she was absolutely lovely and exceptional in her role. I would certainly return to Barluga and would recommend to anyone whilst looking for drinks or dinner in Morpeth. Outside the restaurant in the courtyard area is a great area for outdoor dining, which I’m sure would be amazing on a nice warm evening.

Staff were lovely but food extremely disappointing. *Tempura prawns were so overdone that we returned them to the kitchen *King prawns decidedly average and clearly not king size *4 fish and chips and none of us ate the whole dish, again very average *topped by the charge of a bottle of white wine at £40! Nice surroundings but won’t be back for food in the future.

Came here for a sunday dinner I had quite high hopes as the location and price demanded it Location is dead centre of morpeth so is quite nice and the interior is that darkish mood lighting rustic style so is a bit poor when looking around to see things A few of us decided to come and as such the tables were very cramped with them just putting chairs on the ends of the tables to accomodate us. We went for the 2 courses for £20. i chose the main and dessert. The meat was dry, very minimal look on the plate as the portion size was very small. Veg choice is poor (Potato, Roasters and carrots. On top of that they forgot our carrots. not that is woud have made much of a difference as they would only have given us 2-3 baby carrots anyways Dessert was a sticky toffee pudding which was quite nice, but if i had to guess it was probably bought in and put in the microwave. which for £6 on its own is a joke All in all the dinner is small and rubbish, dessert is a microwvae one probably from a cash and carry, and the whole thing is well over priced Just stay away if your after a dinner as its well below par

A really good Sunday lunch. From first contact with Mark and then with Abbi and Andrew re a booking for a group of 15, the staff could not have have been any better. So helpful and understanding and, all the staff on the day, (waitresses, waiters bar staff and kitchen staff) went out of their way to ensure we all had what we wanted. Absolutely amazing customer service. Thank you.

Wow! Just thank you so much for making my mums birthday so special 💗. From first popping in and making an enquiry for Sunday lunch for 11. The communication has been so efficient from day 1. We asked for a quiet'ish table and it made much a difference to my mum. Thank you to Andrew and our lovely waitress Esme for such a special meal. The food was absolutely outstanding and delighted the portions aren't too big. It was a beautiful and unexpected touch to provide my mum with some flowers too. She loved being treated like a queen by you all!

Lovely food, I can recommend the chunky chips and onion rings. Chef came out to ask direct regarding gluten free options, brilliant. The main courses can be pricey, but they are good. I can't give 5 stars due to the length of time the food took to prepare, 1 hour 15 mins to wait for kids meals is poor, when its quiet. However the waitress Abi, was apologetic and turned the experience around. Will certainly be back.

Lovely little establishment, nice atmosphere, friendly staff , good service . Ideal situated bar close to town centre & arcade . All reasonably priced , fair options as regards menu , drinks . Probably one of the best places as regards price value for food , drinks & atmosphere in Morpeth.

Barluga in Morpeth is a delight! The beef steak ciabatta sandwich is delicious, and the lift provides easy wheelchair access to the upstairs. Friendly staff and great service make the experience even better!

I visited Barluga in Morpeth for Sunday lunch with my family . The food was amazing and the service was outstanding. Our waitress took time to chat with my seven year old grandaughter and suggested an alternative when she wasn’t keen on the children’s menu choices. I have never enjoyed a Sunday lunch more and the deserts were to die for. I would highly recommend Barluga, they have it spot on.

The team were incredibly dedicated and an absolute pleasure to work with from the initial booking right through to the end of the night. They went above and beyond to ensure everything I needed for a successful party was taken care of. A special mention and heartfelt thanks to Abbi and Andrew who were an absolute joy to collaborate with. They kept me updated throughout the evening and couldn’t have been more friendly or full of enthusiasm. I must also highlight the food—it was simply delicious. Everyone commented on how much they enjoyed it, so a big thank you to the kitchen team for exceeding our expectations! I couldn't recommend Barluga and their wonderful team more highly if you're looking for the perfect venue to celebrate your next occasion!

Atmosphere was nice sitting outside. But value for money not good. Requested glass of prosecco and measure was shocking. I did ask if this was correct measure as I seen her use the last of the bottle of prosecco for my drink. She replied ' yes two fingers from the top' Never heard of this before. I did take a photo will add. My rationale is everyone's fingers are different sizes. My honest opinion is that is was nearly closing and didn't want to open another bottle. If its a prosecco glass the best measure to get it the same would fill it to the top even if the cost is more, you know then the measure is right.

The Morpeth area generally lacks a few decent eating establishments but I was pleasantly surprised how good the Sunday lunch was here last week. The roast beef was excellent, being served moist and pink as requested. Good quality meat, vegetables and Yorkshire pudding served with a lovely homemade gravy. The sticky toffee pudding was also rated by one of our party also. Overall, decent value for money. Recommended.

Trio Sunday dinner waa immense. We go a few times a year and it's never failed to just be exceptional every time.

Made year 13 leavers amazing, such a kind friendly staff, especially the waitress that was happily speaking to me and my friend in such a friendly manner. Food was delicious. 10/10 recommend.

My friends and I took full advantage of the deals available. A delicious Sunday roast and pudding alongside a fair few cocktails. Our waitress Kelsey could not do enough for us, she very efficiently made sure our drinks glasses were never empty and regularly checked in on us to make sure our food etc was OK. We came back here because we really enjoyed the food and service last time. It wasn’t bad this time either, but the medium-rare meat was very dry, the rest of the dishes were excellent.

No other way to describe it but just been robbed, my wife and I visit the place every week for 2 glasses of wine each visit. Asked for our usual of a Sauvignon and a merlot to be offered New Zealand or French? Asked what the difference was and got no response as Caitlin was too engrossed in the coffee order from the upstairs. When I got the bill I found that there was £5 difference between France and NZ, that is theft, there is no visible price list for wine on display and the BOTTLE is cheaper to buy on general sale than 1 glass in Bar Luga. You've just lost 2 regular customers due to your greed absolutely disgusted 🤬🤬🤬

Food was good, only ate a main course. Prices were high ish for the area. Atmosphere was dull, perhaps needed more people eating. Lots of places to eat in Morpeth so probably won’t go again.

Had lunch there but as a couple of large parties taking place the service was very slow. Don't usually mind taking my time over lunch but seemed to have to get the staff's attention rather than them coming to us. Food was fab though

Great meal at barluga for the three of us. Would recommend the Moving Mountains Burger for any fellow vegetarian/vegans and upgrading to the Parmesan and truffle fries! Buns were on the dry side but still an enjoyable burger. My brother enjoyed the surf n turf - would recommend.

Visited Bar Luga today with my brother for lunch. Atmosphere was lovely as it was quiet. Staff were very friendly and polite. The food was beautiful! We had tempura king prawns to share and they were perfect. My brother had chicken with a haggis mash which he enjoyed and I had the butternut squash and Chilli risotto which was full of flavour and very tasty.

Booked in for a birthday lunch and the staff were amazing as always. Friendly, attentive and upbeat. The food was outstanding. We got mussels and chicken pate to start which was outstanding. For mains I got the sirloin surf and turf which was spectacular. Perfectly cooked and packed full of flavour. The wife got the borgenion which was tender and full of flavour. The only downside was the mouthy charvas sat on the next table mouthing off about utter trash. Finished off with a few limoncellos but thank you all for an amazing birthday meal

Great ambience, food lovely and the plates were warm :-)! The manager and staff were discreetly attentive, prices very reasonable and they managed a party of 11 very well. My first time at Barlugas, it won't be my last.

Well done Mark !! We visit this bar every so often and always enjoy it but on our last visit the actions of Mark really made a huge impression. My wife has disability issues and some places in Morpeth make it difficult to get around but this bar is really disabled friendly with the lifts and no steps. Also when you have staff that go out of their way to make you feel comfortable it makes a huge difference. Mark showed great customer service skills and when we highlighted it he wasn't even aware that he had done it. The way he acted was just his normal way !! Thank you Mark for making my wife's day with opening doors, pressing the button for the lift and being a good bloke !!

Absolute amazing in every aspect for a private function. Flawless from beginning to the end. The food, staff and facilities were great. All of our guests were extremely complimentary.

We just had our wedding day at Barluga and it was fantastic! Andrew planned a fab afternoon for us from walking down the aisle to feeding us all the wonderful food Barluga served. We had a fantastic time and highly recommend Barluga as a lovely venue for your wedding! Absolutely fantastic service here - second to none. I have been here three times now and each time the staff have been so attentive. In particular, Abby has been great. Nothing is too much trouble. Incredibly friendly atmosphere and the food is great too!

Private dining facilities is amazing great service from Abbi and her team. The three course meal is superb and great value for money. Second time. We have a house and event there and we will be back to sample the food the atmosphere of the hospitality.

As a group of friends we visited barluga on a wet saturday afternoon .We were still able to sit outside due to the bar having a number of tables covered by a large canopy . A young waiter called luke came straight over making sure our table was clean and dry .Throughout our time at the bar he was particularly attentive making sure we had drinks and carrying them over to the table .The bar had a lovely atmoshere,the staff were friendly .We will definitely go back

On the 12th August 2033 we hired the function room for a small wedding reception for my mother. The room was beautiful the tables were immaculate with lovely floral dressing. I can not state enough how professional polite the staff were. The food was amazing all the guests commented how lovely it was. As for value for money a 100%. The staff the chefs made this a wonderful day. 5 stars are not enough for what they did for us, they went the extra mile 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 thank you

Gutted the seafood platter isn't on the menu anymore. Removed 5* review. Had cod in spring veg broth instead. Cod was a decent chunk very slightly dry but not too bad. Broth was really lovely. Crushed potato mound the cod was perched on top was bland. I usually only add salt to chips but added loads and it was still tasteless so didn't finish it. My partner's Thai mussels tasted nice so I'll have to have that next time.

We found it to be a pretty plastic cafe to be honest. At 3.45 on a Sunday afternoon a male member of staff with a totally bored and indifferent expression began lifting the seat cushions outside and we felt so uncomfortable since it was obvious that we were expected to leave that we left the Coffee, tea,ices and cakes ( plastic wrapped) we had just bought and left. Totally uninspiring.

Sat outside on a sunny day. Not greeted by the man clearing tables - had to go inside to ask for a menu. A waitress came to ask us if we wanted drinks, but didn’t bring a drinks menu - so we just ordered beers, but we’re told “it’s bar service” - ??? We ordered food - then waited and waited some more. A family group who sat down after us were served before us, as they seemed to know to go inside to order? Food arrived - very “thrown together” - poor quality ingredients. My club sandwich was a mountain of dry bread with a smear of mayo, very dry chicken, bacon with still white and cold fat (yuk) and uninspiring salad on the side. French fries were cool going cold in no time. Partner had fish finger sandwich, which he said was okay, but also lukewarm. I think this food had been forgotten on the pass. When we went to pay and asked if things were okay - we said no and were told that the waitress had been on her own at the time we sat down. She asked the man who had been clearing tables when we arrived if he could make a reduction, which he did, but grudgingly in attitude telling us we should have complained to the waitress. Well - just get it right in the first place - be friendly - learn how to treat food and customers well - some people find it hard to confront and complain and it spoils the whole treat of having lunch out. Nice venue, but food very average/poor and staff do not seem a happy team and it shows. Avoid.

We had our wedding reception last week there, the venue, food service, communication before the wedding, professionalism and warm welcoming the staff, and all the extra things they helped us with were amazing and beyond our expectations. They did a brilliant job and thank you all for the nice night. And a special thank you to Andrew, who was a great help at all times, and one of the staff who we didn't catch the name but she helped us to send everyone home with a piece of cake in a nice box. Excellent service, the burgers were great, good deal with a Stella. Nice atmosphere (music possibly a tad too loud, but maybe I'm getting old). Our waitress was great, very friendly always making sure we had what we needed.

Love the bar area and restaurant. Nice place for a drink. Menu has not changed for a long time and, in fact, some options have been removed. Service attentive as always, but the food was disappointing, unexciting, and overpriced for the standard of it. Overall it has just fallen and not comparable with other eateries in the Town.

Lovely welcome and service. I ordered the chicken supreme, which was well cooked and presented, however the chicken was just a simple piece of chicken (with a juis) , not what you’d expect a supreme to be. The restaurant wasn’t very busy, so I’m unsure why there wasn’t a quality check, to ensure everything was to my liking. I would return and recommend.

Came upon this little restaurant whilst travelling through Morpeth, and decided it was a really good idea, was greeted by lovely staff providing great customer service, would reccomend

We chose Morpeth food week to check out this place. The restaurant had feel Friendly staff but the offerings on the food week menu were very limited but nevertheless we were there to support the businesses and made our choices my partner jab belly pork which she left most of it was undercooked and rushed I choose soup followed by smoked haddock fish cakes which were awful they had some sort of casing around them 3 the size of golf balls were almost inedible. I managed one I gave up trying to find any fish in them very very poor quality and a disgraceful penny pinching portion we won’t be back. Perhaps the main menu would have been more generous with the portion size but we will never no. Well worth avoiding unless you’re devoid of taste buds.

My two friends and I had an excellent experience at Barluga yesterday, Saturday 11 March. We popped in for a late lunch and we’re served by a really helpful server who gave us a friendly and supportive customer service. She was young and welcoming, and went the extra mile to ensure that I could enjoy my food without problems. ( I have several food intolerances) The food was devious and my friends and I would highly recommend this restaurant, which was relaxed with a great vibe.

We visited Barluga to celebrate my wife's birthday. We were a party of four, two of whom have lactose intolerance. The food was very tasty and of exceptional quality. We all had Barluga burgers and they were delicious and very well presented. We decided to have a sweet which included: the strawberry and white chocolate cheesecake; vegan ice cream; and the Baileys Irish Cream and white chocolate bread and butter pudding which is most definitely the best bread and butter pudding we had ever tasted. We had heard that Dan Suggate had returned to this restaurant as Head Chef so we thought we would give it a try and we weren't disappointed. A vast improvement on our experience when we last visited. The customer service was also very good. Overall, it was an excellent experience to behold.

Poor atmosphere, event though only 7 tables were taken, we were told we could only have a table for less than 2hrs. Chose this venue due to previous reviews of the delicious mussel offerings. Disappointed to find that mussels were ‘none left’ on a Saturday...

The food was good value for money.

Delicious starters: goats cheese and cranberry on sourdough; soup of the day, Tempura Prawns. Mains: huge basin full of mussels. 2 of the delicious hake option. None of us could fault the meals. Good wine. Service pleasant and efficient.

Nice variety of mock-tails although wish there were slightly more to choose from, could do with a deal on them since it’s about £4.25ish per mocktail, although they were nice I’m undecided on the price for fancy juice. It was my first time in there and as someone who doesn’t really go out due to not drinking I wasn’t really sure what to do when I walked in and wasn’t sure on the etiquette of how to get drinks 😂 Other than that though the drinks were nice and would return!!

We enjoyed the meal apart from the Christmas pudding which was awful however one of the waitresses, she was new i believe, spilt a whole lime and soda over my 83 year old mother. It was an accident and we know these things happen but my mother was absolutely soaked and had only been sat down for 10 mins. We spent over 300 as a family and i really do think as a gesture of goodwill the Manager should at least have offered a discount as a form of apology.
