very friendly central location .the pub is suposed to be haunted.

We had a 80th birthday party at the coach house, it was fab and so cosy and the decoration is lovely we got buffet which was really nice and lots to choose from and good value for money, they didn't provide the cakes but you can take your own and the lovely girl gave us cake stand to put them on, I would highly recommend.

This pub /restaurant has a nice atmosphere . Music playing but not too loud . We booked a table 3 weeks ago , and unlike the Town House on Bridge street, which we used to frequent, the staff at the Black and Grey actually remembered it . They even put our name card on the reserved table . So simple . So effective . Which is why , after the Town House did nothing about it , didn't even apologise , but rather asked us to feel sorry for the management , rather than they us,, we won't be back . Staff at the Black and Grey were pleasant , polite , fast on the orders. Food and drinks were great, very tasty, hot enough . Will I be back ? Definitely .

Visited for bottomless brunch Saturday march 2nd.7-9.30 didn’t receive first drink u til 7.45. Food after 8. Didn’t cater for allergies at all. Had weeks prior notice but still couldn’t accommodate gluten free and egg free. Was told we could have the burger without the bun and bruschetta without the bread! Had to fill up on chips as burgers were tiny etc and mine was cold when it came. Also miscalculated numbers so we were 2 burgers short so those people had to wait on their biggest part of their meal. £30 for non alcohol version was shocking as choice was of 2 non alcoholic cocktails. 1 okay and 1 disgusting or fizzy pop. Even then we hardly got any drinks all night as pub was busy. In the end we had to sort our own out. Our table was near the bar so people sitting on that side were constantly being squished by people queuing for drinks. They probably shouldn’t do this offer on a sat night. Feel sorry for staff as they were busy all night. Would not recommend unfortunately.

Absolutely appalling. We booked for Bottomless Brunch for a friend's birthday. Service was really slow. Out of the 2.5 hours slot we sat for at least an hour with no drinks. The Brunch portions were inadequate. 1 small Beef Slider each along with some sides of brushetta, chicken wings , mozzarella sticks and fries / potato skins. The portions were not enough to feed the 14 if us. We asked if there were more but were told we couldn't have any. We also had food allergies (gluten and eggs) within our party if which we had already advised of. These were not catered for which ment that these members of our group were unable to eat half of what they were given and we're not offered alternatives A very disappointing visit.

I was there for a baby shower it was very disappointing paid £21 for a tipsy tea which there was no selection of sandwiches just cheese and tomato no selection of pies there was loads missing such as quiches bagels the puddings looked like they were out of a packet scones were all crumbled and I have emailed them to complain and no response! Very disappointed

Had the tipsy cream tea at a baby shower on saturday night it was so disappointing for £21 each! Consisted of only grated cheese & tomato sandwiches, 2 bowls of chips ?? half a pork pie each cheap scones and an awful de-frosted selection of tiny cakes. Would not reccomend . We did ask for more and got a small plate of grated cheese and onion sandwiches & a bowl of cheese croquets. There was 18 of us and can honestly say no one was happy with it. Would def not return for this, felt robbed!

1/10 Went for a baby shower £21 each for tipsy afternoon tea. There was 35 of us around 10 people on my table. When the staff came around to take our order we asked if 3 of us could share 2 afternoon teas, they said no then had the audacity to bring only 2 between 10! We received 2 afternoon teas between 10 people. They had 5 1/4 sandwiches, 5 1/2 scones, 2 pork pies and a few mini cakes for £21 each! That’s over £200 for just our table alone for 1 1/4 sandwich and 1/2 a scone each, absolutely laughable. I have attached a picture of what we received between 5 of us for £21 each. Staff were rushed off their feet and not even able to come around with the drinks that we had already paid for. The way the management have delt with this had been appalling. They will not respond to any emails and they refuse to answer the phone. Every person at the baby shower complained. The staff on the day were embarrassed and did not know what to do, all they could do was apologise. There was no manager or supervisor in to support the young staff, shocking considering the place was full. Would never go back,definitely a place to avoid.

Gorgeous atmosphere and lovely staff. Food in particular was delicious, and the service was amazing. Brought my family with me to visit here and was not disappointed. Will definitely be back.

Went here for an afternoon tea for a baby shower, there was 30-35 of us we paid £19 each or £21 for the tipsy tea. I was sat on a table of about 10, our food was put on the table it was one afternoon tea plate tia between us and a dinner plate of triangle sandwiches. The plate tia literally had a couple of pork pies cut in half a couple of scones cut in half. I've since been on the phone twice to complain and emailed to be told there was enough food put out which I think is a complete joke. I would not recommend going here for afternoon tea

Went in last night for drinks, did not have food so can’t comment. I found that some staff were professional, bubbly and polite. One female barmaid who served my husband was lovely, down to earth and chatty. We actually felt sorry for her, as she was stood on her own while three other staff members stood at the side of the bar just watching her chatting amongst themselves. We went over to the bar to speak to her at one point and can only say what a credit she is to the black and grey.

The food took over an hour to come out and parts were wrong, also got overcharged as the server hadn't put us down for the 3 for £15 on small plates (something I overlooked as it was an honest mistake). Frustrating because it has so much potential! The atmosphere was great - quiet and cozy earlier in the evening but fun-natured as people came in for their nights out.

£70.00 Each Christmas Dinner for a special treat. (Two people) Big mistake.... Will reserve comments for now until I get a response from my complaint then will give a honest accurate and full review.

Great atmosphere, great food very great for a evening

We had our annual work meal here. Bar Staff were fantastic. The food was nice and the specialty drinks were good. The atmosphere was enjoyable.

Ordered two of their hot chocolate cocktails. Sent one back because the cream was horrendously curdled. It came back, still curdled. Got up and left - was going to order food, but if you can't get a cocktail right... Second cocktail was slightly better I guess? It didn't go back but wasn't great. Felt unwell the rest of the evening.

Delicious burger, reyt enjoyed it. Nice beer, bar staff lovely and accommodating. It was quiet when we went it but I feel like that place deserves to be busier.

My friends and I celebrated my birthday weekend here at the weekend (15th). We did the escape room and had drinks after. The escape room was brilliant and a huge shout out to Charlotte! She was brilliant! Also there was a great young barman on Saturday who let our group into the coach house and convinced us to do shot roulette!!! Laughed, danced and drank! Thank you!!

Nice enough pub but food very average with lots of competition in the town

Travel all the way from Liverpool just to visit here, foods gorgeous, staff are proper friendly and such a chill atmosphere with good banter and service. 10/10 will be back

A positively thriving atmosphere coupled with stellar homemade food made my experience at The Black & Grey an extremely enjoyable one! I ordered Tempura expecting frozen food and instead I received audibly crispy tempura and a healthy portion of fries alongside it all for £12! To say I was pleased was an understatement. There was a pub quiz on too, the quizmaster was brilliant and all attendees were a joy to be around. All in all I can whole heartedly recommend this contemporary pub to anyone who's interested in cheap, high quality food and who enjoy a lively atmosphere!

My Lovely Daughter took me out for bottomless brunch and the cocktails where delicious! Very fruity probably best suited for the younger ages but both me and my daughter loved it! Definitely recommend

Went here yesterday with a big group (around 18 of us) for a bottomless brunch for a 30th birthday. Bar was completely understaff and had 2 people taking our orders, making the drinks, running our food as well as serving everyone else in the bar....

DO NOT HAVE BOTTEMLESS BRUNCH HERE!! £40 per head the food is terrible and the drinks are disgusting!!

Came in for some food after a hard days work. Ordered the pie of the day, soon as it came I took my first mouth full and had instant brain freeze. Sent it back for another one and that came out even colder. Would not recommend eating here stay well clear. Get em down

Sunday lunch needed 2 sets of dentures ,along with your.normal teeth just to get through the beef .the rest of the food was nice .roasties etc were nice ,but the Yorkies were slightly stodgy. My grandson put his hand under the table and pulled out some chewing gum ,gross 🤢..decent cleaner needed .for outside aswell !! Very friendly Pub with the best scampi ever, moderately priced and not too much of a portion but well enough to be filled. Homemade food, with a special touch and extras werent a problem.

The plates was cold so when they put the chicken pie it was cold in two minutes they said that they was no fast food but the pie was the pie dish was cold with hot chicken in it and puff pastry dropped on it

This is a good place for lunch and their pies are to be recommended. Quieter than venues in the centre of town but all the better for that.

The Black and Grey hosted my daughter's 21st. From preparation to hosting, the night was a success. Thank you to Amy and all her staff the food was delicious.

Ate here on Sunday 26th June. Saw they did Sunday Luches so in we went. My wife didn't fancy a Sunday Lunch which was fine, lucky her. I order the Roast Trio which was abysmal. It was served lukewarm with raw carrots. The worst part were the Pork, Beef and what I'm assuming must have been the Chicken. The Pork was cold and dry. The Beef was impossible to cut, never mind chew. The Chicken was not breast meat and full of gristle and sinew. At no point were we asked if the food was OK otherwise I would have had chance to voice an opinion. The 2 stars in the review is just for the Burger.

3pm Sat. 11th June 2022 Not bad. Visit spoiled by gents toilets. No soap and a rather filthy sink. Easy to sort but so easy to spoil an otherwise pleasant visit.

Online this looks a fab pub, however the visit was not. The pub was cold, but very welcoming, the toilets were an absolute mess. I had the meat slider and was served the chicken one and was cold.

An unassuming but popular pub on the main road through Morpeth. Good decor and space inside, very helpful staff. A lot of people either eating or ordering food.

Food and service was good but drinks prices are a bit over the top. Shabby chic i believe its called. Nice friendly place.

Lovely pub, staff and a great house red, but my roast dinner was served within 5 minutes and the stuffing, mashed potato and yorkshire were completely cold (fridge temperature).

Called in Thursday lunchtime, great food ( including gluten free ) really relaxed atmosphere, funky decor and great crack from Angus the hairy bar keep. Price was reasonable and I’d thoroughly recommend it.

Drinks watered down terrible food

Quite a disappointing visit yesterday, looked around to sit somewhere and advised by the staff that tables and seats booked up. 2 bar type stools next to the door and quite close to people already eating and drinking, but before that asked for a pint of pale ale, none available, had a pint of Black Sheep instead, asked for 1/2 pint of draught cider, none available, what about Peroni? none available, another one was also off. Seems strange that you can't sit at tables which are booked at 16:30 & 19:30, surely this could lose potential custom? We were in the pub at 14:00. Has been a long while since we had been at the pub, probably be the same again now.

Loved the cosy relaxed atmosphere in here. Also they are dog friendly which is a big thumbs up from me. Cocktails were superb. Need to try the food next time
