Callum and his wife Jo serve a free 3 course meal to pensioners each month. Yesterday they served an amazing VE Day tea. This is a friendship group for lonely people to share a meal with other people in the same situation. Alison is a caring hostess and encourages mixing and sharing views on politics etc. I am privileged to be one of those people who attend.

We must have visited on the chefs day off as most of the reviews are really positive, unfortunately our visit was not. Have been here several times over the years and had no complaints until now. Had the trio roast at £22 and it wasn’t great tbh. The veggies were cold/luke warm at best. When I made the staff aware I was met with a sarcastic comment “oh, you want it really really hot?” No, I just don’t want it cold! Very little meat & what was on the plate was very thin and tasteless and the whole plate was swimming in very thick gravy. 2 x Cauliflower cheese at £6 per portion was appalling, just 2-3 hard florets sitting in a thin, bland white sauce, but this was taken off the bill after we complained. I appreciate it was very busy, proving it to be a popular choice by locals, but I’d be reluctant to go for a Sunday roast here again. Happily go back to sit and have a drink in the garden in summer though, as it’s a great quirky pub otherwise.

I’ve been going to The Sun for many years. Fantastic pub! The staff are great and overall it’s a lovely place to spend time in with an excellent quality food and drink menu.

Hired the outside hut and surrounding bench areas for my birthday and had an amazing time. Jack and the team were great helping out as much as they can providing a great atmosphere, great drink and a great experience! Will defo have my birthday there again next year.

Honestly unimpressed with The Sun today after meeting with a friend. Checked out the reviews and it seemed promising. Ordered the "trio" Sunday roast. Transpired the cauliflower and vegetables were hard, the meat rather tough and a whopping £22 for each meal! Will kindly be swerving this public house for the future unfortunately.

We recently held a wake at The Sun for my Mum. I honestly don’t think we could have chosen a better place. It’s not something you plan for often, but the Managers Gary & Jo made the whole process easy. They were so respectful and kind from the start, which meant the world to us during such a tough time. The private room upstairs was perfect. The decor and layout was a really cosy and comfortable with access to outside space. There was plenty of food, and it was all fresh, beautifully presented and delicious. The waitress was amazing and could not do enough to accommodate us. Everything was just as we needed to say goodbye to Mum with our family and friends and we’re so grateful for how they handled everything.

Stunning Sunday lunch. Lovely barstaff. Excellently decorated. Always a nice dog to say hello to. This visit, 21Apr24, gravy too thick and veggies overcooked. Friends liked their meals and puds were spectacular. Noise level of kids too much to take today.

The Sun serves some great food, and the garden out the back is just perfect when the sun is out. The £10 lunch options are large enough to fill you up, and we enjoyed the burger and fish. I must give the chips a 10/10.

Went to the Sun for an evening meal with work colleagues. We had a set menu which was pre-ordered. My main was the salmon with dauphinoise potatoes, broccoli and other greens. It came out with only broccoli, which was very tough and undercooked, and boiled potatoes which lacked any flavour. This is not what was advertised and it is disappointing especially for a pre ordered meal. Boiled potatoes, salmon and broccoli is definitely not anything special for £22!!! Very tricky to get hold of anyone to speak to about it (didn't on the night due to a colleague organising it).

We enjoyed a lovely mothers day roast at The Sun and just want to express how lovely our waitress was Isabelle, she was so pleasant, helpful and cheerful. A lovely girl made us smile.

Absolutely lovely lunch, great service and celebration. 9 of us booked for Mothers Day (3 Mumma’s) . We arrived and had a quick drink outside on the sun terrace and then sat down for lunch. The Mumma’s got treated to a ‘Mummosa’ and we all had a roast which was delicious and followed by dessert. All the food was tasty and good sized portions. Staff were really busy but attentive and we had a great afternoon. Will be returning soon!

We had an amazing mother's day lunch at the sun. Food was delicious - 2 starters, roasts and other mains, desserts between 4. Great quality and portion size. The service was friendly without being too over powering. They had lovely special touches including a mothers day mimosa for the mums and a polaroid photo for our table. This is the second time we've been here for mother's day and we can't wait to come back. A special shout out to Gary who was a lovely host.

Really lovely burger and chips. The burger was beautifully charred and tasty. Everything was well presented and arrived at the table in good time andxwell presented. The service was so good, the staff were friendly and efficient. The ambience was great. We will definitely be returning and frequently too, I expect.

Very friendly and welcoming X dog friendly too. Made so welcome by the manager and staff. Had a nice meal and drinks.

A warm welcome, good choice of real ales, excellently kept. Warm, cosy, thoughtfully created bars. A really good lunch menu. We both had the Devilled whitebate which was a generous portion and delicious.

Went for Sunday roast, good choice of food and well presented, extras were expensive for what they were. I would definitely recommend the sticky toffee pudding, the best i have had in a long while. Overall a pleasant experience will definitely go again.

Booked an area in The Gin Library upstairs at The Sun for a dinner with some friends this week. The manager, Jo, is so friendly, accommodating and responsive which made organising the event a dream. The seasonal menu is always delicious but the spring menu was particularly outstanding! We all had different courses and everyone thoroughly enjoyed theirs. Despite us being upstairs with the pub quiz on downstairs the staff were very attentive, the food was served hot and our drinks were never empty. The Gin Library is such a beautiful, versatile and intimate space, already booking it for another dinner! Thanks Jo and Team - I'll be back soon :)

I have had a surprise party with a Sunday Roast and my 50th birthday party at The Sun. I can't recommend it highly enough. The venue is gorgeous with The Gin Library being the most perfect location for an intimate party. The food is great, the liaison with Jo & the team is joyful & it has its own little bar dedicated to you. There's also space for the smokers to nip out. You get all the gastro pub feel with the private dining feel on top! Get a booking in the diary!!!

Was quite busy Fri evening. Food was great - but 1 item as still cold in the middle so had to return. Took allergies seriously. Service recognized & apologized for the delay in the uncooked) raw bread & delay for my son's main course arriving late.

We go to The Sun fairly regulalry and had another lovely Sunday lunch yesterday. The service is always very good. All the staff are friendly and welcoming and the food is delicious. Would highly recommend.

My sister and I went to try the special Valentines menu at The Sun, it was so delicious. The selection on the menu was great and the food was perfect for Valentines for a romantic date or for some girl time! The duck pastrami was amazing and we both had the stone bass for our mains which was fantastic. The desserts were to die for, the dark chocolate vegan tart was delectable. As well as the amazing food the service was perfect, so smooth and everyone was really friendly and helpful. The tables were even set beautifully for Valentine’s Day, they’d thought of every detail from the roses on the table to the heart shaped chocolates. The homemade white chocolate truffles were a perfect way to finish a wonderful evening. For the amount and quality of food we had the price was really reasonable as well. I would 100% recommend and will be coming back to try their main menu!

Superb food oriented pub with great beers and gins. Staff really great. In the summer a lovely sheltered garden. Tends to call last orders and close a tad earlier than many nearby pubs, so bear that in mind and check the hours if turning up late. But other than that it’s the best pub in many miles by a very long way.

At Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Charity we hosted a Charity Pub Quiz at The Sun and couldn't have been happier with the support we received and the event itself. The staff were incredible and we had so many comments on the evening about how quick the food came and how delicious it was. We were delighted to raise over £1,500 at our events and are so grateful to The Sun for supporting their local hospital Charity. We will be back year on year for sure and couldn't recommend enough to other local charities.

I went for a birthday gathering. It was a lovely atmosphere and deco. The staff were helpful and polite. The food looked nice that others had, I wasn't eating though. The events looked interesting so I will come back.

Traditionally British! We’ve been here only in the evening, several times now and there always seem to be new offerings on the menu and I find them very appetising. I think most would agree that from the outside the pub does look nondescript but once you enter, you’re quite surprised. It has a cosy feel to it and you want to stay longer than you intended. There’s plenty of good British food here and it’s well prepared, full of flavour.

An impromptu visit for just a drink turned into a beautiful dinner with friends. We hadn’t been to eat at the Sun for a while and were pleasantly surprised to see some ‘pub classics’ back on the menu, one of which was sausage and mash (love the veg crisps). It’s was as good as I’ve had anywhere. 10 out of 10 for food, service and drinks. Can’t wait to go back.

Absolutely love this pub - to the point is nearly swayed us to move to Carshalton! Food is always delicious, great drink selection and there’s a generally great atmosphere.

We couldn't have wished for a better venue to celebrate our son's fortieth birthday. Delicious buffet together with efficient, friendly and attentive staff. The Gin Library in itself is gorgeous, and we had the added bonus of Christmas decorations - everyone commented on how pretty it all looked. Would definitely return and also recommend to others.

Only a couple of drinks on a Saturday, nice friendly pub, enjoyed our stay.

My wife and I celebrated our joint 60th birthday in the upstairs room/gin library (we also celebrated our 50th there! ). It’s a fabulous space and all of our guests had a great time. The food was great and Jo and her staff couldn’t do enough to make our night special. Would definitely recommend this to anyone having a “do”.

Small pub but nicely decorated and friendly staff. We came on a weekday for lunch just after 12 and it was fairly empty, but filled up just after 1.30pm. We got a small fish and chips, Mac and cheese side, a Guinness, orange juice, a slow cooked lamb shoulder, mini sticky toffee pudding and a lemon Bakewell tart. All in, it came to just over £65 for the two of us. The food was well presented and tasty although the desserts were a tad too sweet for us. We would visit again.

We recently celebrated my husband's 50th here, upstairs in the Gin Library. It was absolutely brilliant. Not many of the guests were local so it was their first time at the 'The Sun' and everyone commented on the beautiful venue and in particular how great the food was. Before our celebration, Jo was on hand to answer any questions we had and she also gave me a choice of table decorations. They even wrote out placecards for everyone, with their menu choices on the back! The staff on the day were excellent and kept our drinks topped up if needed. I honestly couldn't recommend it highly enough. If you want a celebration with good food, good wine (there are other drinks...including a great range of non alcoholic ones)...this IS your place.... They even decorated my 'cheese celebration cake' with flowers for me! Thank you to Jo and her team for making it such a special day

We love this pub! We often visit this pub with our two sons and find that it is really welcoming, family friendly, great food and drink and would highly recommend. The staff always welcome you with a friendly face and the Sunday roasts are spot on (especially when followed by a sticky toffee pudding!!)

After a fun early evening Trick or Treating 🎃 around Carshalton, we popped into The Sun who welcomed the kids with a stash of sweets at the door:) We sat on the decking outside and had the most delicious food, kids ate free with every adult meal, great value. Excellent food and wine, amazing service as always from the team with smiles all round:) The best local pub hands down!

Each dish was beautifully presented and delicious, with our guests commenting how tasty they were (thanks Gary). We went to The Sun for my mother’s 50th birthday party and it was AMAZING!!!! Firstly, the staff were very fast and very friendly! Ed and Tara were working the bar upstairs and they were absolutely amazing, cracking jokes with all of us and over all just being brilliant! When the food came out it went within 30 mins and all the feedback I’ve had has been so positive! Thank you so much for making my mums 50th so special. Will deffo be going back!!!

We had our small wedding lunch (24 people) and reception (60 people) in the Gin library. Jo and the team went above and beyond both in the run up to the event and on the day. The room was decorated beautifully, including arranging the flowers we had provided. The food and drinks service was excellent throughout. During the lunch no-one's glass was left empty and the barman knew what everyone was drinking. The reception bar team were friendly and very efficient (despite having to make and serve 33 margaritas, and numerous other cocktails). The food was delicious, as it always is! The tacos (new to the menu) went down particularly well in the evening. A massive thanks for making our big day so special.

All of the food was presented beautifully. I like that they have pub classics and also a range of other dishes. The desserts we also lovely.

I only gave the food 2 stars as it was basically supermarket food, presented worse than a greasy spoon. The service was great and its a lovely cosy pub, but the seating for eating needs to be restricted to one place as its a bit haphazard , or at least it seemed like that when we visited ( we hadn't booked) The man who I assume was the landlord had a face like he wanted to go home, really grumpy and unwelcoming, but he could of been the head barman or something, but the women made up for it with lots of welcoming smiles and good service. The drinks list and atmosphere makes this a lovely pub, but the food really needs to raise its game , £17 for a small burger and some oven looking chips is a bit steep. Othere choices looked a bit better as they arrived at other tables.

We’ve been here a few times. It’s ok but I think it’s overrated. Nice looking traditional pub but once seated, the staff just left us and after some time, we had to get their attention to ask to order. We had the fish - it was so small (no bigger than a fish finger!) , we queried the size of it. But we were told that that was the portion size. Disappointing really.

They were very accommodating of a table of nine including 5 kids! Brilliant food, terrific service in particular from Isabel.would highly recommend the trip roast and the lemon Bakewell tart was delicious.

A great pub for Sunday lunch. Cosy Sunday lunch, had scotch egg and whitebait for starters, both tasted yummy. The Sunday roast was also not a disappointment - great meat and vegs. In general, good pub with nice choice of beers . Staff serving food were very pleasant and attentive. All in all a great Sunday afternoon spent at the Sun . Wonderful.

Went there Sunday 18/08/2024 for a roast was nice and big portions, child friendly as my friend had child ,they gave pens and drawing paper for kids, deserts were good as was the kids menu and the gatlic bread was so good, the drinks were nice, food Sunday roast great, all the gravy, sauces, and everything that comes with a roast dinner, accommodating as they stop roast at 7pm and called in advance and they told us what was left and we got what we wanted to eat, that day was roast on my mind for dinner so glad found this place and great staff and lovely park few mins down the street. Definitely recommend

What I appreciated most at Sun was the atmosphere, the availability and kindness of the staff, good quality traditional cuisine, a great time with the family!

We popped into The Sun pub for the first time to grab some food and a drink. We were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff and found a spot in the large garden out back. Having never been before, I was pleasantly surprised by the size and the lovely setting of the garden. After ordering drinks, we took a look at the menu and were impressed by the range of sophisticated and high-quality dishes on offer. The food arrived quickly, beautifully presented, and the flavors were simply out of this world. Huge praise to the bar, waiting, and kitchen staff for creating such a fantastic evening. We've definitely found our new favorite spot for food and drinks!

The best pub in Carshalton. Really tasty food, good drink selection and always friendly service. They also have a great gluten free selection on the menu. It’s a shame they don’t allow children after 7pm as we’d love to come more often

Came in for a late Saturday lunch and order fish and chips and a burger. The fish and chips were great , but the burger was a bit small. Great that the kitchen was still open at 3pm and do recommend.

We just got back from the Sun as we walked from Tooting, through the Wandle trial. It was so worth it, the roast was delicious. I've had other roasts in my time and this tops them all. Forget Gaucho and Hawksmoor, we thoroughly enjoyed this place. Definitely away from.the hussle and bustle. We will definitely be back.

Had my Mums 70 th Birthday here on a Sunday . Staff were absolutely amazing and food was incredible. Can not recommend highly this pub . We had the upstairs and was truly delightful.

We chose The Sun for my wife’s life celebration. Jo and her team provided superb service and excellent food for 80 guests in The Gin Library and Terrace. Nothing was too much trouble and you know you have good service when you’re not aware of the high calibre of staff working around the invited guests attending to all needs. The Gin Library is a fantastic light and airy room. I’m quite hard to please but Jo and the team excelled. Jo and her partner own the pub and it was another reason to support local business rather than the pockets of shareholders and brewery’s Well done The Sun

Went in for the quiz this week which is a great format of speed quizzing using your phones. Really well organised and thought out. Also had food which was great. Highly recommend booking a table for the quiz on a Tuesday.

Very atmospheric atmosphere for an old fashioned pub in the center of Carshalton. Very courteous staff. Typical menu, the Sunday Roast is absolutely worth trying. Prices normal. Advised.

Great place! Lucky to have it locally. The staff are amazing and the food is great, all together with a great atmosphere I'd highly recommend here wether it be for a few drinks or food. Glad I'm the 1000th review!

Went to lunch there yesterday with some friends. It was my first visit to The Sun in a few years, but it was just as good - if not better - than before. I started with the broad bean and wild garlic tart, which was bursting with refreshing early summer flavours, and that was followed by a beautifully timed piece of salmon. A delicious Eton Mess rounded things off in style. My friends both had the crab bruschetta followed by the shoulder of lamb and then the rhubarb Bakewell tart; both were very impressed. I only had one of the half dozen cask ales available and it was very well kept. A glass of Albariño with the salmon and then a Moscato d’Asti with dessert were both very good. Service was quick and polite, and I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending The Sun to anyone.

I took my family out for a birthday meal. Despite not having a reservation, the staff assured us that they could accommodate us, as long as we were mindful of the time. They provided fantastic service and made my son feel important by treating him like an adult. The food portion sizes were amazing, and my dad's lamb dish was incredibly tender and flavorful – it was truly the best taste ever. My dad even said when they returned home, they haven't had such a lovely meal in so long. So many places are going down hill, rushing food out, small portions and of course no taste to the food. We all had something different and all very much enjoyed what we had. It was a lovely meal, service was fantastic. When they re visit we will be back.

A really nice pub, with great beer selection

We had the most phenomenal day here for our wedding breakfast. On arrival we were greeted with delicious welcome drink cocktails, we chose aperol spritz and Hugo's in a cocktail tree. The food was out of this world and the venue went as far as making us a delicious bespoke south African desert that I requested. The service was impeccable and really added to the atmosphere of the day. Honestly this venue went above and beyond to make sure our day was perfect to us. We had a wine tasting with them before the day to choose our wines and they kept us up to date and in the loop with all plans, whilst accomodating us as much as they could. I will most certainly be hosting future events in this fantastic venue. Would highly recommend.

Booked for lunch on Saturday. Food was excellent, had the cod and the burger. Unfortunately was let down by the service. The place was very quiet and it still took 15 mins to be seated, then after another 20 mins we had to flag someone down to order. We also received our starters before our drinks. The staff were very friendly but seemed disinterested. We would come back for the food but the service was disappointing

Traditional London pub. Three generations of our family enjoyed great lunchtime food, and there was a good selection of real ales. Recommended 10/10.

I celebrated my 40th birthday in the upstairs room in the pub called The Gin Library and had a fantastic party. The staff were so helpful, and made me and all our guests feel welcome, and they couldn’t do enough for us. The food was excellent, and there was a great selection of drinks. I would happily recommend the venue for a friend or family members party, and can’t thank Jo, Daisy and Bonnie enough for making it a brilliant day.

A nice pub for Sunday lunch. Came here for lunch, had scotch egg and whitebait for starters, both tasted amazing. The actual Sunday roast was a disappointment (we had better at the sun before), potatoes tasted poached, meat too, and tasted bland. But this may be a one off. In general, good pub I’d recommend a visit after a nice stroll through Morden Hall.

Very impressive Sunday lunch. Had the triple choice which consisted of lamb, beef and pork plus usual roasted potatoes, seasonal vegetables and a huge Yorkshire pudding. Dessert I had chocolate brownie but a special request as did not want banana sauce or popcorn ice cream so they were happy to swap these out for boring (so what) vanilla ice cream instead. Can honestly say that it was the best brownie I have ever eaten. Staff members were very pleasant and attentive.

I booked The Sun Gin Library for my 50th birthday celebration in early March. From planning to execution The Sun was faultless. Attention to details, while still keeping a relaxed approach was welcome. The advice & suggestions put forward along the way , when undecided on any points during the planning were spot on! On the night, to avoid congestion at the bar area, The Sun provided different drink stations spread out within the function area (such as wine trees, a separate ‘station’ with a barrel of ale & iced buckets for the different beers). Great idea! The various seating areas provided also suited my guests- such as the younger guests making a space for themselves, congregating on the balcony area & using the blankets provided. There was also different seating areas inside & plenty of floor space to move around, or dance if you wanted. The birthday cake - was fittingly showcased on its own table. I had created a Spotify playlist for the night which they kindly played through their music system. The food was outstanding & have since had several comments from my guests about how great it was. The team of staff for the function were brilliant - special thank you to Ed, Mia & Nathan. Thanks Jo & the team. For helping to make my 50th party a night to remember. Will be back for another superb Sunday lunch in the near future.

The food was reasonably priced and very good portion size (especially the quiz burger deal on the Tuesday!). The staff were friendly. The pub is reasonably sized inside, but not ideal for pushchairs etc, but it does have an outside(which I presume would be ideal in summer although I didn't see it). They welcome dogs and have water/treats available for them. They also have a selection of games to play. The prices are reasonable. The quiz night (Tuesday), was fun. And they do other things throughout the week. I didn't see any TV's though... But i'd definitely recommend popping in!

I booked The Sun Gin Library for my 50th birthday celebration in early March. From planning to execution The Sun was faultless. Attention to details, while still keeping a relaxed approach was welcome. The advice & suggestions put forward along the way , when undecided on any points during the planning were spot on! On the night, to avoid congestion at the bar area, The Sun provided different drink stations spread out within the function area (such as wine trees, a separate ‘station’ with a barrel of ale & iced buckets for the different beers). Great idea! The various seating areas provided also suited my guests- such as the younger guests making a space for themselves, congregating on the balcony area & using the blankets provided. There was also different seating areas inside & plenty of floor space to move around, or dance if you wanted. The birthday cake - was fittingly showcased on its own table. I had created a Spotify playlist for the night which they kindly played through their music system. The food was outstanding & have since had several comments from my guests about how great it was. The team of staff for the function were brilliant - special thank you to Ed, Mia & Nathan. Thanks Jo & the team. For helping to make my 50th party a night to remember. Will be back for another superb Sunday lunch in the near future.

We have been to the Sun on a number of occasions and have enjoyed the experience and food. However, I booked a table for Friday evening on 1st March. We were taken to the upper floor and were shown to a table next to the small bar. The table was away from other diners and would have required that one of us would have been facing a wall. I commented that I was not happy with the table and was told that no other tables were available. It was too late for us to go elsewhere to eat so we accepted the table. We then had to wait for over 25 minutes for the server to take our drinks order. I was generally not very happy with this dining experience and am reluctant to eat here again.

Was here again for a 50th party upstairs in the gin library and everything was perfect. The evening party food of sliders cos bites chicken goujons and picky bits was fantastic. Atmosphere was great and the birthday bit couldn't have been happier. Jo's team are great and just love coming here when we have a special occasion. I've booked the restaurant for a special 30th birthday on Friday and am really looking forward to it. X
