The Duke's Head Hotel Restaurant in Sutton

We hosted a 60th surprise birthday party in the Lavender Room at the Duke's Head over the weekend. The venue was beautiful and the Duke's Head team were very responsive and helpful in the lead up to the event and even more helpful on the day. It felt like the team were invested in us as guests and worked above and beyond to make the day a success. The buffet food was received on time and everyone complemented the quality and amount they received. Huge recommendation if you're looking to host a party in the Sutton area.

The meat was blant and beef roast was chewy. And had a meaty taste same with the chicken no spices just tasted like cheap un marinated smelly peace of meat. . Other than that the veggies was good and tasty.

The food and service were excellent. It was a noisy environment but we were there early eve on a Fri. One of our group had hearing difficulties, so we did not have desserts. Have been there before at different times when it has been much better noisewise. The food was a real improvement on earlier visits. The pie was very tasty. Compliments to the chef. Generous portions as well.

The service and attention to detail was excellent

Staff were very busy and we had to wait a while for out table. However, they were apologetic and sat us somewhere else. Food was great and the atmosphere was friendly. Nice place to eat.

I don't agree with having to book a table just for a drink, there should be a certain area for just turning up and having a drink! The food in general was good apart from my wife's steak she ordered, it was a bad cut! Unable to cut and having leave most of it, for £29 you would expect a perfect steak!!!

My friend and I had a fantastic meal there, my friend had sausage and crushed new potatoes cabbage, I had calves liver, mashed swede and carrot, perfect cooked brocoli, the food was so hot & served in good time. The waitress was lovely. The dessert was fantastic aswell good size portions. Would definitely recommend & go again. Thank you

Wanted a good lunch with a couple pints, this is a perfect spot for that. Good quality food and drink, attentive staff - Abby was great.

My favourite local and even better for Sunday lunch. Place was packed but service was still amazing and attentive all round. Food is great quality, just knocked a star off because a couple of us had a beef that wasn’t the best cuts, but that’s luck of the draw I guess. All said and done, great value, super efficient service and 6 happy customers by the end. Recommend!!

We love the dukes head! Service is usually very prompt and with a smile. A little overpriced but the food Is worth it. BeAuitful location and staff very friendly.

Best customer service smiley staff !lovely food. Booking was simple over web even when we had to make changes the booking. Nothing was too much for the staff. We all are from the main menu and found the food fresh and tasty. The portion control was very generous, but not overfacing. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed Would happily recommend

Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. My friends had the fish and chips which they confirmed tasted as good as it looked: I had the beef and Guinness pie in a really delicious short crust pastry . Often pies (in some places )are meat and gravy in a dish topped with flaky pastry ( not a proper pie in my view) this was a perfect pie . Which I would thoroughly recommend.,Monday was a perfect day to dine as it wasn’t heaving with people but several others dinning there too. I will go again

Very busy, but it is lunchtime service, no parking as the Car park was full, parked in nearby street, interior requires an uplift, had to place napkins to balance the tables. Had 2 menus breakfast one which looked good. A good pub overall,

Second time eating at The Duke’s Head over the years. First time was lovely, last night was awful. The service was great, but the food wasn’t. I’m hoping that the usual chef wasn’t on duty. My husband ordered the venison wellington which he enjoyed. It could’ve been a little less well done, but this wasn’t a big issue. The presentation was dreadful, the food was squashed onto a plate to small for the dish; the gravy jug was in the middle of it (bizarre), the purple carrots were completely undercooked, and tasteless. He got off lightly. I ordered a special megrim sole, with chestnut pesto gnocchi; hispi cabbage; and lobster bisque, with a side of heritage squash and crispy sage. Again, the presentation was appalling. Everything looked really insipid. There was enough gnocchi to sink a ship, which had barely any pesto on it. Half a cabbage was placed on the plate (far too much), and rather than being griddled and chargrilled (as is often presented) it was limp, and watery. The “lobster bisque” was a thin liquid, which tasted nothing like lobster. The star of the show was the squash and sage, which was delicious. I would’ve sent the dish back, but there was an issue with everything element. I couldn’t see how cooking it again would have improved it. Also, if chef sent the food out like that, he must’ve thought it was acceptable. How can you begin to communicate how wrong he was? This would be like a training exercise. I would’ve communicated my dissatisfaction to the staff, but no one asked at any point ‘how the food was’. I suspect they knew how bad it was … Young’s pubs aren’t cheap, so to my mind the food needs to be of a high standard to justify the cost. £24 for that plate of food was totally unacceptable. We won’t be returning!

Lovely pub with helpful friendly staff serving great food and drink. Plenty of places to sit and enjoy a pint or a glass of wine, of which there is a good selection. Natalie, Helen and the whole team work very hard to keep customers happy and go the extra mile. Love it!

Our family had lunch here and the Dukes Head did not disappoint. It was a Tuesday and the restaurant was pretty quiet and very cosy. The service was commendable and staff were genuinely friendly. Everyone enjoyed the food and drink which was very tasty. The celeriac mash could've been hotter but it was delicious, as was the apple and rhubarb crumble! Custard was a bit watery which was a shame. House red and coffee both went down a treat. We will certainly return here for another gathering and I would recommend a visit if you haven't been before. A big thank you to the staff at Dukes Head!

Had an enjoyable time and food was good however the experience was somewhat spoilt by the waitress asking whether we had finished (4 times) our sharing platter when there was still food left.

We love visiting The Dukes Head. Always a good atmosphere, not loud, staff are friendly and helpful. Used the booking facility as it was new years eve and we were provided with a great space for our group size. Ordered from the bar and using the app which is easy once you get signed in. I was unable to sign in as no code was received but my husband managed it on his phone. Everything is good quality with lots of choice.

This year unlike last I didn't think the food was as good Potatoes felt almost boiled and not roasted and the same for the parsnips Turkey was quite thick and not sliced nicely Shame as normally have a great Xmas day but felt it was lacking in regards to the food this year

We had our Christmas do there was over 45 of us eating and a few joined for drinks at the Dukes Head. Everything was superb, I’ve been to many Christmas dinners and the food has been ok. The food was fantastic. Staff couldn’t do more for us. Manager Natalie was fantastic. Will be coming back again to the Dukes Head. Such a lovely pub. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening!

Festive atmosphere with nice decorations. Good location with easy transport links and parking if you drive. Food was delicious and service very good. Staff were very attentive.

5 of us gathered for a festive lunch. The starters and desserts where ok but the main meal left us feeling disappointed. 4 of us had a roast the potatoes where very hard to cut could have been reheated from the day before. Half the parsnips where burnt half OK. 3 sprouts and a small spoon of swede for a roast is very poor. Expected more choice of veg. We chose this venue as we could all get to it the company was great shame about the food.

Lovely atmosphere and great food

Used to be a great pub ! The staff were polite and pleasant, we went as it was a festive afternoon with local stalls to look at and a visit to see Santa ,which were all great if even a little crammed in .. lots of families with small kids which was lovely to see but unfortunately the price of two pints and a carton of orange came to over 18.50 which Put us off staying to order food and more drinks so went to local competition and had a few more beers and just as good food for a fraction of the price !! I also gather we weren’t the only group to be moaning about the ridiculous prices could of been a perfect afternoon but it was disappointing that we had to go because of hugely inflated prices

Lovely and warm bar area with a lit fire Staff all very welcoming, friendly, polite and helpful. Lovely NZ Sauvignon wine which is all I drink! Food very tasty and served hot.

Had Christmas dinner work team members. Seating could have done with more space. Portion was huge.

We had an overnight stay with dinner & breakfast. We had a great welcome from Helen on arrival. A minor hiccup with our room ( partially our fault ) which was rectified. We had pre dinner drinks in the bar. Great atmosphere, friendly bar staff. Then we had an amazing dinner. Our server Marie was attentive. Breakfast was lovely too. Sue was extremely helpful, I am on crutches & she served us with orange juice etc as I am unable to carry things. Nothing was too much trouble. All the staff were great. We will definitely return.

Food was great - bergers and fish and ships really good

Five of us had Sunday lunch and the quality of the meals was excellent. Good portion sizes, beautifully presented and served by excellent waiting staff. A perfect pub to eat and relax with family and friends.

A gem of a find. I was very happy to have been recommended this establishment. Having stayed in several other hotels in the Croydon area how did I miss this one!. It id better than Comfort Inn better than Ibis, better than Premier Inn and 20 times better than Travel Lodge.

One of my favourite pubs in Carshalton. Always love going to the Dukes Head, great beer, food and really friendly staff. One staff member that always goes the extra mile is an employee called Cicely, she is very professional and a joy to be around. 10/10 Dukes Head.

Lovely roast dinner 😋 will deff go again

We have had some lovely meals in the Greyhound up the road, also a Young's Pub. So we thought we would give the Duke's Head a go. There were 5 of us and we all had roast dinner, we had 2 x luke warm lamb, 2 x luke warm beef and 1 x dry chicken. To further ruin the day the TV, which was above our head, was then tuned on and volume turned up as the football was on. When we booked the table, nobody said this was going to be in the bar area. The assumption being it is a hotel and you would book a table in the hotel restaurant. We had just about finished our email, so declined dessert and went to find another table. Only to be told by the manager that all tables were booked and the "Sound should not be up on the TV". We drunk the remainder of our drinks and left. Not a good experience given the hotel prices.

Sunday roast. Always expensive now that the cost of living crisis is in full effect. Decent enough grub and the service was excellent.

We come here fairly regularly. Great service, good food and a lovely atmosphere.

Travelled for work, stayed for 2 nights, and I loved it here, the bed was very big and comfy and I was given the extra pillows that I asked for. Also, the food was amazing in the pub downstairs, the trout was top class, and the pecan pie was out of this world! And the full Duke's breakfast was spot on the following morning. Also, the staff are really friendly, super super friendly. Really recommended!

Maria looked after us so well, very accommodating and friendly, plus the desserts were delicious!

Had a lovely family Sunday Lunch , served by two lovely happy young ladies , Ciceily & Abby . They were both vey attentive and friendly. The food was amazing and we were all stuffed .

Terrible food, the duck salad was swimming in the soy sauce making the lettuce leaves really soggy, just disgusting , how can a salad be so bad.

Booked the lavender room for a small retirement do the venue was perfect the food was lovely and the staff were really helpful in sorting out welcome drinks and the Spotify playlist, would definitely recommend

We went for a Sunday Roast as we live nearby, great welcome and decor, large place with different dining rooms. We were seated promptly and provided the menu, but once placed the order we barely saw the waitress. She was spending most of the time in front of the laptop (not using it) chatting with the bartenders giving the back to the guests. Kids fish and chips really good, despite we asked for fries and was served with chips and they forgot the beans, the food runner promptly rectified everything. Goat cheese and figs tart, slightly overcooked making the goat cheese well cooked and lost the flavour, also the tart became very crunchy. Sundae Roast, could have been better. The neat was tough and chewy, most probably it wasn't a sirloin neither a ramp, thick cut and also small portion, 1 slice and a bit. Trimmings really good, Yorkshire pudding was ok, undercooked inside looks like the oven was too hot and they didn't have the time to cook properly the inside. Eton mess really fresh, the meringue itself is not a raspberry meringue as on the menu, a bit sandy texture but overall better than the meat.

Nice roast dinner. Massive portion and really like them coming round offering more gravy or an extra Yorkshire pudding. Lots of veg but the parsnips and potatoes were not as roasted as they could have been. With the kids menu it seems a bit odd to serve the carrot and cucumber sticks with the main. Would be nicer as a starter for them with some houmous. Did notice that the roasts advertised on the website are not what was offered on the menu but still a lovely meal.

Went for the roast and was overwhelmed with the amazing portion..all meats cooked to to perfection especially the pork and crackling..Will definitely be back.

It's a good pub, with parking and decent rooms to stay as well. Met for brunch at 11.15. It's seems breakfast finishes at 10.30 although the website said 11.00. Anyway, the brunch menu has an all-day breakfast on it. It's a little pricey compared to the cafe and does not come with a coffee. It was ok, arrived cold, fried eggs were overdone, and the toast was very dry, good bacon and black pudding. Tried the sausage roll, too, and that was good. The Youngs Original was a good quality pint, I could tell the pipes were clean. Overall, good value, friendly service, they were short staffed. I'd go back if they cleaned up the courtyard outside (had dog poo), I mean, the dog owner should be ashamed, difficult thing for the staff to do deal with, I sympathise. Overall, I would go back as its a good pub (probably the best in Wallington) with decent food and atmosphere.

I came in for a Saturday dinner. The crab spring roll starter was the perfect way to start my meal. The pork special was to die for!! Couldn’t have had a nicer experience. My server Ollie was exceptional, he made sure to check my food was good and kept me topped up on the white wine. 👍🏼 Cheers Ollie + and The Dukes Head Team.

Really enjoyable, food was excellent. I had the cyder haddock and chips, best fish and chips I have had. The batter was crispy, fish delicious loads of chips mushy peas, tartare sauce and curry sauce, I ate every single bit, will definitely go again to try another dish.

A great pub/hotel. We stayed two nights and will stay again if we are back in the area. Plenty of parking onsite available. Staff were very friendly and Checkin was quick. Breakfast was excellent and service was good.

Family friend had a party at the dukes head this weekend and I feel it’s only right I left a review. My mother and myself decided to book a hotel room at the venue to save on evening travelling and we are so so happy we did.. Not only was the pub (venue) itself amazing the hotel was beautiful! The room was spacious decorated to a high standard, double shower, massive tv, beds were extremely comfortable - To be honest i could have just stayed in the room and not have gone to the party. I’d like to say thank you to Natalie and all her staff for such a warm and friendly stay, I’ll definitely be returning. Lauren

Superb pub, great food and the Guinness is at the top of its game. The staff are all super friendly, they can’t do enough for you and your 4 legged friend should you have one! Highly recommend a visit!

Been here many times for food as we live local. Today was the worst for food. Fish and chips, batter was over cooked. Curry sauce tasted bitter and burnt. Mushy peas was like dark green mush. Asked waitress what the dish was, she went to find out and never returned with an explanation. Asked again and was told it was a different type of pea. It was like dark bogey green. Horrible. Asked for starters to be separate to main and it all came out together so sent back main and sides. When main arrived it was cold like it had been sitting on the side waiting. Very poor considering we are regulars. Not happy

Fish pie was more like a soup, very runny, tasty but not a pie. Rest of food was lovely, fishcakes were amazing.

We booked all of the rooms at the Dukes Head, for our wedding guests, and had a welcome meal there on the Friday night. The food, including breakfast, was delicious and the rooms are well decorated, attractive, clean and very comfy. Natalie and her team in the restaurant, and Sara in the hotel, couldn’t do enough for our group and made it a wonderful and memorable stay. We’ll definitely use the Duke’s Head again for celebrations and for family and friends to stay when they’re visiting.

In fairness it was a Monday evening so very quiet with little atmosphere. The menu is quite limited and the food was ok . The service was very good I felt all in all quite expensive

Sadly yet another visit where the food was way below par. Yes, there was a party on but then there should have been more staff. We waited ages for our food. The garlic prawn were tasteless and 3 for £13.50 is disgraceful. The Devon crab roll was tasteless as well for £8.50. We paid £38 for an okay sirloin steak with half of tomatoes, 1 mushroom and chips. I had a ceasar salad with a tough cold lump of chicken stuck on top for £20, not very appetising. Our chicken mushroom and leek pies were tasty. The best of the lot. If you are going to charge these prices then the food and service should reflect these prices. We will definitely try the Greyhound next time as I know they are far better with their customer service.
