The Star in Sutton

This pub could win an award for worst pub in wallington, but i feel like its competing for worst pub in south london. I guess it’s called the star because thats how much it deserves out of 5. Servers seem like theyre serving a prison sentence rather than people at a bar im. Clientele are aggressive and coked up, the star out of five.

As someone who lives local to this pub I do often go here as a last resort as it stays late with a random crowd all the time and karaoke

Nice local great staff good service reasonably priced

All good had loads of sport at lunch time and not too busy wirth a visit.

I decided to re visit the pub to visit an old friend, but found I was treated with hostility by its locals, especially one of the pool team members.

Been to the star a few times over the years. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and fantastic prices. They do a bit of karaoke sometimes which always goes down well.

Came in here for a drinks and was served by Amy she was very friendly and welcoming and offered really nice drinks as I was unsure what to have. Will Definitely be back!

This must the cheapest place I been for a wine for years! Tables a bit sticky, but if u want a cheap night out, this is the place to go!

Came here with my friends for a few drinks on the weekend, the atmosphere is amazing and the drinks and service are 10/10. been coming back since, definitely recommend coming.

We went here for a family birthday as we knew it would be budget friendly. We had booked a table but hadn’t confirmed properly but Steve the manager kindly sorted a table out for our group of 8. The pub is like the good bits about a spoons but without the smelly carpet and more welcoming . The football was on and the place has a lively atmosphere but not too rowdy. Rabina behind the bar is lovely and goes the extra mile for you.

Popped in for a quick bite, food was hot and tasty, staff were very friendly too. Will definitely be back

We started going to the star just as a quick drink after work, the staff are very accommodating, there is service with a smile at all times. We love the pub so much that The Star is not just a place to drink after work it’s become another home. Highly recommend this pub to many.

Had a darts match there last night The Guinness was a bit ropey so changed to Bitter they pulled the pint and the first mouthful was awful and it stank it was full of the pipe cleaner. I was sick in the toilet which got rid of it. The staff didn’t apologise just replaced with a ropey Guinness. They kept the pump open said they were changing the barrel. Still ill this morning. With this in mind wouldnt try the food can’t imagine the health complications from that.

Came here with some friends for dinner was Greeted by friendly staff we all ordered burgers they were very accommodating to our dietary needs. The food came very fast with superb presentation and was very tasty. Great selection of beers to choose from definitely coming again highly recommend.

Always have a great experience when I go to watch the football at weekend, with 5 big screens and plenty of seating I don't have to worry about not being able to see the match, accompanied by friendly bar staff.

The star has a lovely atmosphere, myself and my friends were able to do exactly as planned a fun evening served by pleasant staff behind the bar. Costs are very fair for drink and food. They run live bands, DJ, and Karaoke events. My time there was full of fun and laughter and that included with the staff behind the bar.

Good pub, good atmosphere , good food, very welcoming staff with quick service and welcoming locals. Music on the weekend till late which is great too, also provides two pool tables daily, recommend this pub

Stumbled along the lovely little pub whilst out with some friends. Lovely staff great variety of Gins ( blood orange my fave 😍) and even managed to get a game of pool in. Thanks for a great visit we will definitely be back.

Racist... Two Asia guys wanted to watch last games of the season of premier league... Walked over to the bar, pub wasn't busy. A bar tender was serving a couple, finished serving knowingly we were waiting ignored us and served another person. Now been at the bar for few minutes, another bar tender comes along see us and says who's next someone orders a drink when I stated am I waiting here for fun... A third bar tender turns up and acknowledged a local and serves them directly eve after seeing us awaiting there before the guys walks over to the bar. Now the first bar tender finished serving, knowing we were still waiting after 10 minutes to get a drink, again ignored us and servers another person. So annoyed, we walked away after realizing this is a racists pub and did not want to serve asians. This people need to be educated and treat people equally and look past peoples colour. Shame on all of you who allow this to happen this day an age.

Been coming here for many years. Always had a bad reputation. But it's a very nice pub with lots of friendly customers. Staff are friendly and always make you feel welcome.

Really good service quick and cheap

Was coming for a quick lunch on the 24/9 and arrived to two unenthusiastic servers. Ordered 2 pints of coke, received 2 small glasses instead. 2 meals were ordered which was delivered personally by the chef in his uniform, which isnt particularly hygienic. The meals were also half made. BBQ chicken melt had no BBQ on it, and the nachos had sprinkled cheese that wasn't melted and no guacamole, with sour cream that tasted more like yogurt than anything else. We did let the server know at the time and they offered to have the meal remade, but we asked for a refund instead to eat elsewhere.

Popped in this morning for the first time after getting lost on the train. Charged my phone and ordered a pint of Guinness from the bar that tasted fresh as a daisy and got change from a fiver. The Welsh guy working behind the bar (think he was the boss) was very helpful and directed me to London Bridge on the trains. I ended up staying for a burger which was well priced and decent and was on a great offer with a beer. If I lived locally I would be a fixture here.

A good little pub which i always use when in the area. Table service is available where required. The prices are pretty competitive so well worth using this pub. Its a proper spit n saw dust typical pub with 2 pool tables to be able to use as well. Pub is served here but it is basic stuff.

Local pub, come for the champions league final. Was very busy but the owner, all his staff an all security was spot on. Security helped with cleaning the glasses as it was busy. Been a great night, great prices. And felt welcomed to come here

Not really favouritism but they served me a decent pint of Hobgoblin, my favourite beer, which I hope they continue doing it's improved greatly since its last incarnation when it was the Melbourne but as I usually visit around lunchtime when it's quieter I can't say what its like at night. That said it's clean and tidy and the staff friendly

It's a great pub but much maligned. The fact is: It's a friendly regular's pub. No trouble at all really. The flat's over the road, constantly have the police round, but the pub gets blamed.

i have been going there regularly for a while, who says about the staff ? i have ALWAYS found from manager down that all staff are efficient, polite and friendly. some people need to stop griping and live a life.

We’d just all had a lovely evening at the wallington arms to see a band.One said why not pop into the star for one more drink.On entering it looked okay, they had a dj in the back.I tried to enjoy it by dancing and drinking. There was three door staff- two decided to sit down and not work leaving one alone to work.Avoid this dump at all times!!!!

Just a very unpleasant experience. Not one person who worked there even cares about their job let along customer care. The reputation was already sinking and with the worst bar staff and security I have ever seen, you might as well close it down now.. Avoid at all cost!!

We were actually on our way to a Chinese restaurant, but found that it was closed when we arrived. The Star happened to be nearby. We glanced through the window at a menu we could see on an empty table. Luckily, it had some vegetarian options, so my wife agreed to try it.England is currently experiencing a heat wave, so we really can’t hold The Star responsible for the hot barroom. After walking through the entire bar (including the “garden” outside) we sat at a table in the front for a few minutes, but no staff came to our table. Maybe it’s a British thing that you have to go to the bar for service, so I approached. The bartender saw me and approached. We decided on a nightly special that included the menu selections of British fare and a pint of beer for £5.99. I was pleased that a vegetarian entree was included on the list for the specials. My wife had vegan sausage links with mashed potatoes, peas, and gravy. I had beef pie, mashed potatoes and gravy. We had moved to another table near the front door where it was a little cooler. As soon as our beers were poured, the bartender motioned to me to come and get them. When I approached, she asked me to pay for the meal. I was a little surprised that they wanted money before the food arrived, but I paid. When the food arrived, it was hot, plentiful and tasty. My wife couldn’t eat all of hers and I don’t think she’s ever finished a pint of beer in her life, so I helped. I probably would have ordered another beer, but since I paid in advance, I didn’t want to put another charge on my card. When we got back to our room I was shocked after reading the other reviews. I’m guessing that there is new staff in place since the last reviews that reflected such poor ratings. I believe in giving credit where credit is due. Was it the best service I’ve ever received? Not even close. However, the value of our meal was worthy of 4 stars. According to my bank, the total charge was $15.83 and we were well fed and quenched. No complaints.

Nothing great, nothing bad, nothing special. A fairly forgettable pub with loads of smokers outside the front. More of a footie pub than the kind of place you go on a date or for food.

Went there with my girlfriends family (European) , 2 of which forgot their ID, I went back to get it as they went inside, during the time it took me to go there and back (about 10 minutes in total) they were threatened to be kicked out twice and another customer tried to pick a fight with them (which the staff did nothing about). When I arrived back with the ID the staff did what looked like photographing it on one of their phones without permission as another inspected it (probably to find another reason to kick us out) after which she began needlessly commenting on how one of the passports were expiring soon so they won’t accept it next time (as if we’d be coming back). When we ordered drinks we again got no greeting were rushed, spoken to rudely and without any form of respect. Our drinks were handed to us as quickly as possible so that she could go back to talking to her friends. The name of the staff member who’d been causing all these problems for us was Sophie (I’d suggest getting served by someone else or better yet not coming here in the first place). When we went to go play pool (the only reason we came here) we could hardly play since people decide to sit right next to the pool table so you can’t move your cue back (despite there being plenty of seats elsewhere in the pub and us clearly struggling to play around them because they don’t want to move). Would definitely not recommend this place to anyone and will personally avoid coming here in the future.

The least friendly pub I've been to. Both times I went there there were fights and the staff did nothing to stop them. The second time my friends and I were part of it, thankfully we left the place in one piece. Clearly a "white's pub only". Wouldn't recommend to anyone.

A very good local that caters for all ages and needs, has the ability to keep the old school of being a locals pub alive, good beer and food at very competitive prices.Darts,pool and quizzes. Came into town for shopping and got a bit peckish, so popped in ( being a Tuesday) it was " big burger and drink day", what can I say £5.79 for a fully loaded burger and a pint, better quality than Witherspoons .

Most people will write about the trouble in this pub and whilst true and they have tried to clean it up with more security, my issue is the service. The staff rarely come to the far end of the bar by the main road entrance. You will quite often see them chatting at the other end of the bar where it is often too crowded to gain access. The lady who seems to be in charge, Eastern European lady with dark hair, is particularly unaware there are customers waiting. If no staff are visible, it is work checking in the area with the dishwashers where the staff will be chatting or catching up with text messages. It could be much better but there really needs to be team that are watching for all customer needs rather than standing in one particular spot behind in the bar waiting to serve the customer directly in front of them The young chap behind the bar is really good btw

We arrived before 12 so had to wait for the kitchen to open. After enquiring if we could order food early we were told by one member of staff that there was a problem in the kitchen and nothing would turn on. We waited for 5 minutes then asked another member of staff if the problem had been sorted to be met with a confused look and to be told there wasn't a problem, so guessing we were just told a lie instead of just saying that we had to wait an extra 15 minutes until 12. When the food came everything was so overdone we were served black cheesy garlic bread,Crispy chicken wings that were all stuck together, A burger that almost broke my teeth when I bit into it as the patty was so hard,A shrivelled, mostly black bit of corn on the cob from the children's menu,A bbq chicken melt that at first sight looked like it had a leg bone in it as the bacon was so black and hard, as was the cheese on top of it. The staff are rude and unhelpful and didn't even know if there was baby changing . I had to discover for myself there was not, so had to leave to change my son. Also lots of broken glass in the garden that I had to keep picking up as my son was walking around, definitely not a family pub

My daughter like the Star because she enjoys the colouring the Star sheet and the freshly made and generous size of the fish and chips, my son also loves the Cumberland sausages and ice cream. This is our third visit...
