Dirty table, dusty clutter everywhere, no atmosphere, cold, dirty food-covered menu, salt and pepper grinders were black with dirt, toilets mouldy round the ceiling with spider's in the corners, chair was stained badly, chair cushion of mums was ripped, crockery was all chipped and cracked. basic food pike TOAST was burnt to black! I got home and have had a bad stomach and cramps and sweats all day! Never eat here! A cleaner is desperately needed.

I was here last month for lunch and had a very good experience. The owner was excellent, being very helpful with our order. Service remained of a very high standard throughout. The sandwiches were very good w/ generous garnishes. The cheescake (lemon and ginger) was absolutely outstanding. Coffee was very good, served in china cup and saucer (Americano). Cool! Range of hot meals looked good and were keenly priced. Maybe next time. It was noticeable that the cafe was "full" of regulars, a telling sign of consistent quality. Recommended and right near Pugin's Gem.

I recently enjoyed lunch here with a dear friend. The bistro was spotless, the outside eating area was beautiful. We ordered the salmon ,cream cheese & watercress s'wich and a fish finger s'wich too. The host, Miguel was absolutely charming and also the beautiful lady who cooks the meals ( sorry, didn't ask your name) was delightful and clearly took a lot of pride in each plate she presented - to get a lovely potato salad and red cabbage slaw accompaniment to a sandwich was very nice and tasted great. Upon leaving I requested a sice of cake to take home for my husband - the cakes are fab,-u-lous and the selection is outstanding! If you live in Cheadle and have not visited The Summerhouse......you are missing a treat! I saw on the daily hot lunch listing that "lobby" with a chunk of crusty bread was also available - and I shall most definitely have that meal in my next trip. Thank you Miguel and the lovely blond lady who cooks the gorgeous food.

The service here is always so welcoming and friendly, Miguel is a great chap!!! Anyway, we ate lunch here and the place was pretty heaving. We had homemade lobby on a cold day and it was delicious. It’s not super fast here, you do have to wait but it’s worth it for homemade, personal service and food. Who wants premade junk?I think In honesty, it does need a little lick of paint in places, although it is rather charming. Don’t let this put you off. We’ll be back :-)

Visited this café and decided to try the full English breakfast which took a long time to cook and by the time it came to the table my family members had finished their meals and it was not worth the wait. Also, decided to try one of the cakes as I was still hungry, however, upon eating the Victoria sponge cake there was a hair in it!! This wouldn't have been a problem as such if dealt with appropriately by the owner Miguel. Unfortunately, Miguel laughed at the problem in hand with no offer of a different or substitute cake. Also, there was no discount on the fact that I had not eaten the cake with the hair in it. Definitely would not recommend this place due to the bad experience but there are other suitable establishments available.

The Summer House is a place that my mum, (who had dementia), liked to visit as she always enjoyed Miguels home baked scones with clotted cream. When she and my father both passed away in September last year, I asked Miguel if he could host a small gathering for refreshments, and he opened The Summer House especially for this on a Monday, as at this time he was not open on Mondays. He provided the scones my mother loved and homemade chocolate eclairs, which were my father's favourite, as well as other choices which we requested.

Our first visit today as a treat by my daughter for Afternoon Tea. Very busy on entering so prepared for a bit of a wait. Ordered with a lovely chap, Spanish I think, whose manner & service was impeccable. Our drinks came within 10 mins & there was apparently a short delay on the food, which was fine with us. Just under an hour later, our food arrived. Our tea & coffee were long gone by then so we asked if we could have two refills as there had been an hour wait. Although the food was very good, we were disappointed to find we had been charged for the two extra drinks when we only needed the one, had the food come out within 10/15 mins of the order & not an hour later. A real shame as it's a nice quaint tea rooms, the man serving was lovely but it angered us that we had to pay for additional drinks which were only needed due to the unacceptably long wait for the food. Left feeling full but disappointed - this shouldn't have happened.

Wow! Where to start?! Lovely decor, old fashioned but with a modern twist to it. The staff were fantastic, in particular the guy with a foreign accent can’t remember his name! Chatty but not too much. Lots of choice on the menu, I’m veggie and ordered the, leek cheese and potato bake. The guy asked me if I wanted extra vegetables as I asked for no chips so I felt that was good service. The whole dish was just delicious! There was a nice choice of tea’s on the menu and the tea sets they were served in were also lovely. We noticed lots of people were coming in and knew the guy on a first name basis so this place is obviously popular with a good reputation! Next time we are up in this area we will definitely be back!

There's a good selection of light meals, snacks, drinks etc with a cabinet display of delicious looking, homemade cakes!! I passed on the cake this time, ordering a hot chocolate and sausage sandwich, which I was given a bread choice, I know... sometimes you do get a choice, it was just the way he asked, as though it were a speciality dish of the day.... My drink was served piping hot; love that as more often than not, it's served tepid. The same has to be said for the sausage bun, duly served fresh and hot. Top marks!! We took my elderly mother in law for coffe and cake, and Jose was charming! The coffe great, and homemade cakes delicious. No rush to move us on, friendly, clean and great toilets! We will be back.

I have used this coffee house a number of times since the new owners have taken over, and in my opinion it's now the best in Cheadle. Whether you're just having a coffee or a more substantial meal it's always good quality with top notch service. Give it a try you will not be disappointed

i visited the summer house a couple of weeks ago wanting an afternoon tea. we had to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes for them to "prepare" it and for it to finally arrive. my drink was taken away before i had even had chance to finish it and the staff are to clingy.

Have been here a couple of times for coffee and the breakfast. Since the new owner took over I would recommend the place to everyone. What a difference! The service is good, the atmosphere is now very welcoming and the food is very good and nicely served. Thank you to the new owner for making this place a pleasure to visit.

Called in here after visiting the Pugin masterpiece church nearby. Hadn't been to Cheadle before - nice little town. Called in here for tea and cake - as mentioned in other reviews the owner is very friendly and funny and cannot do enough to make sure your short stay is a pleasant one. We had tea served with matching olde wordle teapot, teacups and saucers and the millionaire shortbread was to die for . There are many small touches in the decor of this place which you may miss. Have a good look around to see small colour matches here and there. A comfortable warm cafe, and one of the most important things to us - the toilets were immaculate.

Well where do I start. This place is a must for anybody visiting Cheadle.By chance I was on business up from Essex, when I fell upon this delightful place for lunch. The way this place operated from the start was very customer friendly & professional. The Spanish omelet with chips & salad was tasty & filling and service excellent. Special praise goes to the delightful lady heading up the kitchen with her local knowledge of the area and excellent cooking. Would recommend a try for anyone & ensure you will end up coming back for more.

Called in by chance when visiting Cheadle for the switching on of the Christmas lights, the new Manager is a real character and very welcoming. The coffee was excellent as was the cake. Would highly recommend a visit.

I'm very pleased to report that this place has reopened. We went in for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The breakfast was excellent and very reasonable value. The service was very good and although it's only reopened this week it was quite busy. The basic layout has not changed but the decor has been improved. A very nice location to have a light meal or a coffee and cake.

Unfortunately when I walked past this place 1st week September 2014 this place was closed with the windows all whited out. A message in the window said that it would soon be under new management.

Popped in for some coffee and cake both were excellent sat in a window seat looking down cross street towards Pugin's church. The interior has lots character and there is even a small court yard if the weather is fine. Staff could be a bit more attentive and clear the tables quicker but that's a small complaint.

Came here for breakfast the woman behind the counter long curly dark haired was very unsocialable stood taking our order with her hands on her hips. The food was beans on toast you camt really go wrong with that. This plave lacks soul.

This is an exceptionally nice tearoom in Cheadle. It has old world charm and a wonderful selection of homemade cakes. Well worth a visit if you appreciate good food in a lovely location.

Popped in for evening beer. Community run traditional pub. Worth knowing it is cash free / card only.

Coffee good and young lady serving very friendly and polite. Staff in the back preparing food with no gloves and getting orders missed or wrong but blaming others for their shortcomings

My friend had booked myself and another friend in for dinner here for our birthdays. We asked for bread and olives for the table as a starter, this was served with just 2 pieces of bread and there were 3 of us so we asked for another and the waitress said she had asked already and we would need to pay for an extra bit of bread, they also didn’t have the oil to go with the bread. Two of us ordered steak for main, I’d asked for no mushrooms, when they were served the sauces were on the wrong plates and mine had mushrooms, the waitress took it back then came back and said that my friend and I had been given the wrong ones so to swap and then it would be right. The steaks were so insanely salty, it made my friend and I feel sick. The chips were meant to be triple cooked but it didn’t taste like it. My friend had a blue cheese sauce and said it was quite bland. Our table was booked for 7pm and we were informed a few days before that quiz night starts at 8pm. This was fine and it was good to be informed beforehand but we hadn’t considered how loud it would be, the music during the meal was loud and the microphone was the quiz was also super loud so we couldn’t hear each other speak. My friend asked for something to be taken off the bill due to the poor steaks, the lady who sorted this out was great and very apologetic, she was very helpful in sorting it out, the waitress we had was also lovely. It seemed to be an issue with the chef. We hardly ate our meals and got McDonalds on the way home because we were so hungry. I would go back there sadly.

They were very busy when we were there so service was lacking, a lot of tables were not cleared, the scones were dry and the coffee was not very good. A beautiful old tea house though.
