Bit pricy & menu hard to navigate but overall not bad

Ordered for collection chicken jalfrazi which was 90% onion with 4 bits of chicken curry was nice but lack of meat was poor Garlic nanbread was under cooked and soggy definitely not the sultan I've been told about

Won’t order again! Tried to explain to the bloke who answered the phone after waiting an hour for food if you Google Sultan of Jarrow it gives you a few options for delivery (one being flip dish pay £4 get delivery in 40 mins) which i paid. he seemed to be very defensive saying “I never told you that” and “I don’t need this” his attitude was shocking I was only trying to explain but for some reason he thought it was a personal dig. Dont advertise to customers this option if you can’t meet the 40mins or you need to speak to flip dish and ask why this is plastered over google! Food arrived 20 mins after the call so 1hr 20 in total so more than double the time I thought it would be and the food was shocking when it arrived rice freezing and naan bread was rock hard

Absolutely beautiful food. Throughly enjoyed all of it. Service was excellent and the staff were very friendly. Lovely atmosphere. Would definitely recommend 👌

Had a chicken Jalfrezi last night on takeaway , blandest curry I have ever had. No spice no real taste and chicken was tough as old boots 🤦‍♂️

Went to the Sultan with the Mrs last night to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary, so I pre ordered a bottle of prosecco to make our night a little special. We arrived early, so we had a drink at the bar (IPA & Cobra) while chatting with Musa and then went to our table after ½ hr or so. We ordered our starters, 4 x pickle tray with plain pappadums, as well as some chilli ones for me washed down with another ice cold IPA for me and red wine for the Mrs. We ordered their 'beast from the east' for our main course ( & another IPA/wine) and we weren't disappointed, the plate was huge, with so much food, so much so that we just couldn't eat it all. The prosecco arrived in an ice bucket and it was amazing, we've not had that brand before, but it was beautiful, we spent a few hours in the Sultan and to top off our night Arif took the cost of the prosecco off our bill... what a guy! The restaurant wasn't too busy, but Arif & Musa did a cracking job of making sure all diners were taken care of and food & drinks were served on time. Thanks, guys, for helping to make our night memorable. See you again soon.

Changed review from very positive to one star. Ordered online via their website. Confirmed order, took payment. Status confirmed 8t was being made, and then confirmed it was ready for collection. I turn up to collect and find it's closed, shutters down on a Tuesday evening. Noone answering either posted numbers, their WhatsApp or Facebook. Getting refund and won't be ordering or eating here again.

The only good things about the restaurant were the atmosphere and the service. Being an Indian restaurant you expect flavours in curries but the food was completely bland. As starter, we ordered garlic chicken tikka, which wasn't cooked properly and felt hard and chewy, we told them and they kindly replaced it, which is a good gesture. In main, we ordered Chicken Karahi and Roghan Josh and could hardly tell the difference between them. We had to season it with salt and Pepper. Karahi is a tomato based curry, but the one they made had big chunks of onions, peppers and tomatoes. This is not Karahi by any stretch of imagination. The recepie for Chicken Karahi is, you fry the raw meat in oil/ghee, then you add tomatoes and you cook till the tomatoes turn into gravy, then you add your spices and you cook until the oil leave the pan. then you garnish with ginger. They seriously need to improve upon their taste or they can stop advertising as an Indian restaurant.

I normally eat at the restaurant which in all fairness is lovely. Decided to order takeaway. Food arrived on time and was hot but missing the keema nan even tho the gentleman repeated the order back. I wasn't charged for the keema nan but it does spoil your meal when you don't get what you ordered. The guy on the phone did offer to send a keema nan out but that would mean my dinner going cold. Whoever took my order and repeated it back knows there was also a keema nan on that order. Overall I'm dissatisfied with the service.

Ordered a takeout tonight. One medium chicken curry and one balti chicken curry. It arrived on time, that was the only good point. The chips were cold, the currys were not individually labelled and both were tepid warm. Both had to be microwaved!! And then the taste... oh my, I've never tasted such a bland curry in all my life, I was wanting to put pepper on to give it some flavour!!! Same goes for the 2nd curry, and both contained dry chicken!!! In all honesty it tasted far far from fresh and tasted like it was the restaurants weekend leftovers warmed up!!!! Had too give one star to write the above to warn others, otherwise a big fat zero!!! In your response, you state that you offered a replacement, I had already heated the food up and thought that was going to be the only inconvenience, the cold limp chips would be sacrificed as a loss, too have a hot tasty curry, but sadly as explained in both curries this was not the case. The curries were souless of any discerning taste or flavour. It was just a dissapointing experience. I appreciate the 20% discount on a next order, but after the first experience I have little faith to invest more money for a happier result.

Cost has gone up lately but we still enjoy the food

11/8/22 went for a friend's birthday meal there was 11 of us. Very slow service and very clumsy waiters my husbands coat ended up covered in yogurt sauce told lad at desk reply was "sorry" . Food was nice that's why give 3 stars

We were meeting family at their local for dinner and having tried a few along Ocean Road previously, was not holding out much hope of it being decent. Our local is Jashn, Gateshead which is a fabulous restaurant. But!!!! Sultan is a great little find, I'm veggie and they serve me some great treats: mushroom pakora, chana saag, paneer palak, but the star of the show was the lemon chili pilau. Well Defo go back with or without family 😁

This is the worst Indian meal I've had for years. Cold temperature in the restaurant, amateurish service, cheap wine and incredibly poor quality food. Pre-pandemic I had a good meal here but I won't be going back.

Liked their ambience and everyone is so friendly. Ordered their achari lamb it was so full of flavour and tasty. But the meat was rubbery. I told them . They again cooked but to my teeth it was still rubbery and very hard to chew. Must try their onion pilao.

Staff are exceptional, meals are even better, I do recommend you say if you prefer your curries a bit spicy, well worth a visit, much better than going to Ocean Road. On a return visit sometime later. Has been recently refurbished inside, maybe could of picked a lighter colour of paint. Could also possibly be new owners, enough staff on the floor but need someone to motivate them more. Having said that, it must be the same cook, the curries are still first class.

My husband and I tried this Indian restaurant for the first time on Wednesday and we weren't disappointed. The food was delicious 😋 and the staff very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be returning again in the near future.

Delivery was late, korma and Rogan Josh curry was nice, Popadom was stale and only got 1 small 1 in a bag, onion bhaji wasn't fresh.Paid for mint sauce it didn't get sent. Got a mega munch box not worth the money, Chicken was dry and chips were soggy....

Ordinarily I love this place but we ordered from here on Saturday night and were disappointed. The food was late and cold, the wrong nan bread was given and the food just tasted very bland. I really hope this was a one off as this is one of my favourite places to order from.

So the food here speaks for itself. Anyone who knows how to make Indian restaurant curry would love the food here as it is genuinely the best in the area. A lot of reviews mention the staff who I can confirm are polite, respectful and a good group of people. When I was there they were attentive, available and not in the fake way you get when you can see through the act of pretending to care to earn a tip. In truth I have been a few times and never reviewed as I didn't know there were on trip advisor. As someone who lives in hebburn I would never go the way to South shields when we have this place round the corner. Top quality food, my vindaloo was spicy and authentic and the naan was perfect. Soft and ideal to dip. Again I must mention the staff as both times I have been they gave the same level of service when I went as a couple and with a party of 12. Top drawer. Top restaurant, great food and a great experience. I couldn't recommend enough

After receiving our takeaway meals today which were both stone cold, I wouldn’t recommend or return to this restaurant. Seriously disappointed as it was a quality meal once upon a time

Visited on Saturday evening....first time since lockdown but had used the takeaway service ........reduced capacity as some tables had been taken out for social distancing ....very well managed .....comfortable ......enhanced cleaning practices .....food was excellent ....staff very friendly and knowledgeable about food choices .....highly recommended ....advise booking during bust weekends

We started to come here only in November of last year as we had never realised we had this local little gem right here. Beautiful food and very good service. No need to travel into Newcastle or South Shields way. Take out service is just as great. Love it!!

I’ve reviewed this curry house before and glad to say the standard is still as good as the previous visit.The authentic Indian food is excellent, the tastes and textures are as good or better than the majority of Indian restaurants.The starters, main course, rice dishes and breads are first class. The service matches the food, friendly and very efficient service. Nothing is too much trouble. I must also recommend an Irish coffee to finish, definitely one of the best about. If you haven’t been, it’s a must try.

We have just had one of the best curries i have tasted in a very long time, first time from Sultan will defo be back,food piping hot & delivered within 45mins,full of flavour, we got the Sultan bucket you wont be dissapointed food amazing.

Didn't know what to expect as it was in "Jarra"! What a surprise. Pleasant staff, reasonably quick service and good pricing. Wine prices are very reasonable as well. We liked it so much the whole family have made a return visit there and it was every bit as good as the first time.

My partner & I took my daughter & 16 month old Granddaughter for dinner. There was a great choice, even in the set menu The staff were really lovely, asking if we wanted the starter straight away, as the little 1 was hungry. Everything was well cooked & presented well. Usually go to South Shields for curries. Not anymore. The Sultan do deals too.It's hidden away on the road between Jarrow and Hebburn close to the river.It's not a very big place and the staff are very friendly.The food is excellent. Well worth a try.

Been here for a meal a couple of times and the food was very good. The meals were very tasty and the portions generous so definitely no complaints. The staff are friendly and very attentive without being a nuisance. This is now also our go to place for an Indian takeaway and the quality has been really good so we will continue to go here. We used to go to Ocean Road whenever we fancied an Indian but with this restaurant nearby we are happy to go here now

Decided to have date night dinner and was all set for Ocean Rd but at the last minute remembered the home delivery curry we had recently and opted for the SultanThe staff are very welcoming and quickly found us a table.The restaurant was fairly busy so the Facebook reviews must be working.We went for the £11+ set menu that offered a selection of staters, mains and sweet or coffeeBhuna Prawn on puri was the option we both went for and it arrived in a folded crescent shape packing with prawn in a lovely sauce, great presentation .....two empty plates later.The staff were very attentive and were happy to delay the main course until we were ready.My Wife had the Chicken Balti with Nut pilau and I went for the old favourite Chicken Jalfrezi with Mushroom pilau rice.Mine came on a sizzling skillet.The portions were generous. I made a valiant attempt but my Wife had them box it. They were more than happy to do so.This restaurant has a great reputation for home delivery but sit down diners are now on the up. Great food, excellent staff in comfortable surroundings.A real hidden gem, we will return.

Another visit to this hidden gem. A curry house that has excellent service and fantastic food. We visit this restaurant when we can and have never been disappointed with excellent starters and main courses second to none. The service is also excellent supplied this time by Sieadul and Sammy. Fantastic coffees to finish the night off. Can’t recommend too highly, a must visit restaurant, not just for locals but well worth the effort to travel to.

Recently visited this restaurant with 7 friends and everyone was impressed with the quality and quantity of their food. The decor is outstanding. Recommend this Indian restaurant to everyone, no matter what their food preferences are.
