Dilshad in South Tyneside

My 2nd visit - quiet again. Staff super friendly, decor fine, crisp linen napkins. Took the chicken bhuna puree- another take on this dish with a rolled puree and a dollop of shredded chicken bhuna. Tasty. Then chicken korma and steamed rice - hot, plenty or rice and pretty tasty. Usual coffee to finish. Better walk further down the street to here than pick the closest ones to Morrisons. 4th visit - Staff curry - lamb - PERFECT. BEST CURRRY ON OCEAN RD. On the bone. Lamb cooked well. Lots of fresh spices. King of curries

Visited Thursday 31/10/2024. Had some mostly nice tasty food, decent value, staff very pleasant although service was a bit slow. Would probably come back.

The food in the dilshad is exceptional from the large mixed kebab to the super tasty madras and their nans are spot on

Service Problems and Bland food . Ordered pickle tray and popadoms . Neither turned up . Sent the waiter away with the starters until they did. Jalfrezi bland and they advertise special as £12.99 outside but the menu price is £15 when you sit down. Hows that work ? More interested in other guests. Won't be back . Not the Dilshad I used to know Shambles

It's just an average Mid restaurant. The dishes are all sweet and have the same base with potato for different dishes.

For nearly 30 years I've always gone to another nearby restaurant but when they were closed for refurbishment I tried Dilshad. I've now visited twice - 2 months ago when there was a large group of us, and tonight for my son's birthday, and each time it has more than exceeded my expectations. Firstly, the service is excellent. You are given a warm welcome and looked after for the duration of your stay. The staff genuinely go out of their way to make sure everything is to your satisfaction. And secondly, the food is first rate. I had my favourite chicken madras and my son preferred chicken tikka masala. The chicken was tender and succulent and each dish was beautifully presented. The nan bread and starters were equally as good. Other restaurants may at first appear to be slightly cheaper but will charge extra for certain things. E.g. for breast of chicken or tikka masala. None of that at Dilshad. If you want beautifully cooked Indian food with very reasonable prices and excellent service why not try Dilshad? Hopefully this is now going to be my new favourite Indians for the next 30 years!

The Dilshad on Ocean Road, South Shields, is truly a hidden gem! The food here is nothing short of outstanding—each dish is bursting with flavor and cooked to absolute perfection. Our main server, Kamrul, went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful dining experience. He was accommodating, friendly, and truly a credit to his employer. Not been here in years but ended up calling in as everywhere else was shut (when did all the Curry houses start closing at 10pm). Great food and the service from Muz was too notch. Really friendly and chatty.

Our group of 4 are well experienced with Ocean Road curry houses but wanted a change and had not been to Dilshad (Bengal) for many years. Waiter recommended a different starter, chefs special. Was really excellent and is now our go to starter. Every thing else was excellent, staff great. Will be back.

Amazing and delicious food! I dined with my family and ordered chicken karahi and paneer bhuna. The food was amazing and good quantity for the price we paid. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who is interested in Indian cuisine.

Have used the Dilshad for several years, for my takeaways. This past 6 months the service has dropped off the cliff. Wait has been anything from 1.5hr to 2.5hr, on more than one occasion items have been missing. Tonight (Wednesday) I've waited 1.5hrs, rice was missing, called to ask for rice, I was assured the rice would be sent straight out, over an hour later the rice arrived, no apologies . Never again.

After try all but 3 of the Indian restaurants in ocean rd it was time to try Dilshads. The staff there were fantastic, even cooking dishes that where not on the menu. Without a doubt we will be returning.

Hands down the best takeaway curry I've ever had. My fiancé and stepson also thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were pleasant and The order was a bit late coming out but they offered me and the boy a drink while we waited which was nice of them. All in all great experience and will definitely be back to either sit in or take away. Thanks again. Compliments to the staff and the chef!

What a lovely surprise. Out for supper with friends and delighted to see OPEN on the door.this was a go to place until it closed a couple of years ago. It has been refurbished ,a good chef who delivers great food and menu is full of interest. The owner and staff are more than helpful and deserve praise and lots of returning customers. We are definitely going again. Excellent.

Absolutely love this place. Our normal place we go to was closed. So we popped in, I’ll be honest not expecting much, but I’m so glad we were pleasantly surprised. We were not sure what to try for starter and they were happy to help. The chicken is so tender as well. They offer alcoholic drinks as well as soft drinks. And the atmosphere was lovely.

Food is delicious, well presented and staff are wonderful. They are so friendly, helpful, nothing is too much. They even custom made us a naan bread, cheese, garlic and coriander. Had an absolutely awesome evening at the Dilshad. Service is excellent super friendly welcoming restaurant. Everything was perfect for us the welcome the restaurant and the food are all superb. If your visiting South Shields or a local the Dilshad is not to be missed. The restaurant has been given a full refurbishment and looking cool and contemporary. The menu has all the usual delights with some extra special meals that can't be found elsewhere. We had a superb meal and brilliant night thanks to the staff. A must go restaurant in South Shields.

A very nice restaurant with a great atmopshere, staff and owner. The owner is very down-to-earth, modest, respectful and kind in nature. The food is top quality with plenty of flavour and taste. The spiciness ranging from hot to mild, depending on your palette. I would definitely recommend visiting here if you come around Ocean Road in South Shields. I appreciate the hosting of the meeting of my sister and future brother-in-law. The restaurant and owner did a very good job providing a very welcoming and endearing environment we all enjoyed being within. Definitely wouldn't mind coming again for future events and meetings.

This place closed for a while during Covid and was only operating as a takeaway but has recently reopened as a fully licensed restaurant again. We’ve been twice since its reopening and it’s as good as we remember. Great food and wonderful, friendly service. Well done and keep it up Dilshad!

What has happened, this place was gorgeous, now tikka masala tasted like a plain curry, and not red, the korma was not sweet and tastes of the base curry.

just had to leave a review. food was delivered hot and everything was beautiful. the mixed kebab especially was the best i’ve had. everything in it was juicy and cooked perfectly, no dry or overcooked food. very impressed. also the mint sauce should be sold in bottles.

I've tried many of the Ocean Road curry houses and to date have never had a bad one. Sadly that statistic is no longer true. Firstly the almost 3 hour delivery time was shocking. Very off tasting pieces of what was supposed to be chicken tikka. A mushroom pilau with about 2 flakes of mushroom. An almost stale and very dry naan bread. The oddest tasting CTM we've ever had. Half went in bin.

We had a beautiful korma with naan and poppadoms and some tikka bites. Absolutely delicious and nothing to fault!

I'm so disappointed and frustrated with this business. We've been customers for years both in the restaurant and takeaway. We stopped ordering for a while because they kept getting the order wrong. We're back and it's still happening! Missed mango chutney — I know, it seems small, but with onion salad on poppadoms it's a main part of our meal (we don't eat much). I called and they said they'd get some to us in 20 minutes. 4 hours later, I guess it's not coming. It sucks because the food at this place is phenomenal.... honestly, it's delicious. They just need to take more care to get orders right. They did offer a free bhaji, but try getting that 3 or 4 weeks later when it's all been forgotten about!!! If your willing to chance getting the wrong order, go for it! You're sure to enjoy whatever you get.

Ordered 6-28 after a phone call now telling me it’s going to be about 8 ish won’t give me a time ordered from here for ages won’t be ordering from them again poor poor service and very dismissive on the phone if I could I wouldn’t give them one star very very disappointed

Dilshad gets 5 stars for hygiene, something we’ve never really thought about mentioning when ordering online. It also gets 5 stars from us for a great meal, delivered quickly, hot and ready to eat. (Again they had to ring us to find our address) I tried the Dupiaza as well as pinching some of my husbands Sizzler Murgh. Both were great to taste, not spicy, just all taste. Sundries we’re great too, plenty of keema in the naan which sometimes other restaurants seem to scrimp with. We kept the extra sauce too make a chicken curry later in the week.

Best curry in town by any stretch of the imagination. This restaurant is also one of the few 5 star rated for hygiene in South Shields. Never disappoints.

For a change my husband opted for a Sizzler Murgh with extra sauce. He said it was lovely, different in a nice way to his normal choice. I went for the Dupiaza, again for a change. Lovely food. Despite some delay, which appears to be a glitch on the delivery app, (the restaurant always ring us up to say, where is your house!) the food was still ready for serving. The spicy chips, keema naan and mushroom pilau were as good as ever. Plenty left over and money off made this a win win meal.

Ocean Road has a variety of indian restaurants, and i have tried most of them. None of them are as nice as Dilshad. They provide the same high quality food every single time. I keep waiting for them to have an off day like some other places i have been, but it hasn't happened. My only tiny piece of advice is make the Sri Lankan curries a bit spicier. Other than that, the place is Number 1!!

After a busy day, a curry was the answer and we utilised a delivery service to get a 25% discount. Now, if the food isn’t good, any discount doesn’t really matter but the Dilshad was spot on again. Delivered on time, ready to serve and enjoy. Great end to a tiring day.

Been going for 23 years and never had a bad meal, and now that they deliver I can have one whenever I want!! Everything is good, but would recommend the Sri Lankan for those that like a bit of heat.

Delivery on Saturday nite : salad was lettuce leaves and wedge of lemon. Poor : onion baggi smallest I’ve ever had : NAN - dry and shrivelled : main meal lacked taste and texture. : overall service has dropped will think again before I use again . Not a happy chappie .

Not a frequenter of indian food as sometimes oil disagrees with me. My first takeaway from the Dilshad Restaurant. Absolutely lovely food. Very tasty. Very fresh, good quality and thoroughly enjoyed it. Delivery was quick however food would be worth the wait if any. I recommend and will used the Dilshad again

We often order from Dilshad on Ocean Road and it's only just occurred to me now to actually review it!The food from here is always top notch. Fresh ingredients and every dish has its own distinct flavour. We must have ordered every dish on the menu over the years and this place has NEVER disappointed us. For takeaway, the website is a dream to both use and to order on, plus you get a text update when your food has actually been sent out. Dilshad is also a restaurant and I have eaten there many times before and the service is always nothing short of impeccable. Presentation is World Class, food is always hot and fresh and prices are VERY reasonable. Whether dining at home or in the restaurant, you will always be 100% satisfied. There's a reason this place has been there for years and years. I implore you to try it for yourself.

I had a takeaway this evening for one cover (me!) and it was delivered in minutes, piping hot and absolutely delicious. I had Lamb Goufi, Tarka Dall and Special Mixed Pilau rice. Great combo and my mouth is still buzzing from the fantastic spices. To top it all, I split the meal into two, so there’s tomorrow’s feast to look forward to! Thank you, Dilshad.

Me and a friend attended the Dilshad recently after a long trip to Newcastle. There is ALOT of competition on the road with maybe around another 10 curry houses. What caught our eye was 5 items for £10 meal deal in the window (1main, 1starter, 1rice, 1 nan, some poppadoms). We thought this fantastic value for money so entered the establishment. After being seated and requesting what was advertised in the window; we were told that this was for takeaway only and looked at as if this should of been obvious to us. The deal in the window has NO mention of this at all and tbh we felt a little scammed by this false advertisement. We stayed anyway.The food was nice and pleasant staff, I’d just take that sign down or make it clearer because we spent an additional £10 on what we would of got within the deal.

Great for takeaways, and the food is always adequate. Never had a bad meal. Portions are large and mean you should consider sharing things like rice. Good set menus and special offers. A great place for reliable food

We always choose the dilshad for family occasions. The food is always beautiful and the service is fantastic. Whenever we ring to book they remind us that the restaurant is alcohol free, this has never ever stopped us. By far the best experience and we have tried all of the curry houses on ocean road and they always cater for pur ever growing family of 18 and 3 toddlers! We love it.

The one star is because our waiter was lovely....my curry did not taste finished as though it needed a little longer to cook, the rice was cool, the naan bread was flat as it was not cooked through so I could not eat, so I ate the chicken from the curry and not much else, my tummy was not happy about that, never mind, I know not to go back.

Placed s biggish order for a takeaway on Monday night, 27th (Bank Holiday Monday). We were told to expect a bit of a delay but as it turned out, not only did we get a text to say it was on its way but also, it arrived in good time. I have to say, this was the tastiest food I’ve had from any of the other restaurants in Ocean Road. Congratulate the Chef who was on duty and let me know his working nights, as I’ll be sure to want his food again. All in all, excellent, customer service and excellent food. Thank you

First time visiting Dilshad with my friend. It is an upstairs restaurant. The decor could do with updating, however, we had an absolutely lovely evening. We had different curries, rice, chips, popadoms and drinks. Very reasonably priced! The staff were friendly and attentive. Food is the best! Will be visiting again in the near future. Thanks for an enjoyable evening.

Ordered from Just eat and really wish I never! Was awful! Worst Indian we have ever eaten! The chicken pakora had no chicken in it,l and was super greasy, the chicken tikka stir fry was chewing and like rubber. The fried rice was basically all onions which were not even cut properly. The Masala sauce was thick and vile, even the cheese naan was horrible, it was filled with thick rubbery sliced cheese. Will not be back and definitely will not be recommending this!! Worst £25 we have ever spent!! If I could give less that 1 star I would!

The Dilshad has its own website (so Just Eat isn’t getting a cut) and they deliver which is great. The food is always excellent, it arrives in good time and is piping hot.

El chico en el teléfono fue muy amable, relacionados a todo el precio, calculado sin preguntar y me necesiten tl también dio el tiempo máximo de entrega para administrar nuestras expectativas. Nos preguntamos si el conductor podría tocar en vez de anillo para no despertar el sueño de bebé y no como pedimos, no nos molestamos. La comida estaba deliciosa y abundante. Lo principal para mí aquí era el servicio de atención al cliente, que era de primera categoría. 100% de orden aquí de nuevo y elegir el restaurante a visitar si ibamos a salir un curry.

Ordered a take away on Just Eat from here. Order was ready when I arrived. Everything correct and food really good. Price was average for the area. Would recommend.
