I really wanted to give this a better score but I'm sorry, I just couldn't! Let's start with drinks: real ale - if you're pouring real ale, know how to do it! Pouring it the way you pour a pint of stout, won't give you the right results - you'll end up with a frothy pint that soon settles down to a flat pint. Also - keep your ale at the right temperature - it was WAY too cold. The service. This is where some of the points come off the review score. The barman, come waiter was pleasant enough, even if he wasn't particularly chatty. He was absolutely rushed off of his feet though and couldn't cope (not through any fault of his own - he was trying to take orders, serve food and pour drinks (and serve them) for a full restaurant). Inevitably, he ended up making mistakes. Half my chips were split on the floor. They were to be knocked off the bill - it didn't happen. I didn't complain (and I'm not complaining now - just telling it how it was). I felt sorry for the guy and would have hated to be in his position, so I think the last thing he needed was me complaining about some chips. The food - excellent. Good size portions (even without half my chips, haha) and the food was really tasty. Value for money - hmmmm another reason for points off the review score. It's just a bit on the pricey side for the type of dish offered. It is, to all intents and purposes, 'pub grub' but prices for more up market restaurant food. In comparison, we had more or less the same meal a couple of days later in Fort William, for almost half the price. Take a couple of quid off of each meal, learn how to condition and pour real ale (the CAMRA website will give you all you need to know in just a few minutes of reading) and get some help in for the poor guy who was ran ragged and I'm sure you'll end up with 5 star reviews on a consistent basis.

A serendipitous need for food on a long journey on the 12th Oct led us to the Stronlossit Inn. Quite quiet but filling up with guests. We had Scampi for Flynn, 16. Fi had the Beef Casserole and I had the Angus Burger. Firstly, the portions are huge. The chips were crispy and fluffy. Flynn's Scampi, plain and simple but crispy and tasty and freshly cooked. My Burger was equally delicious. The meat was very tasty, the slaw sharp. Crisp, fresh salad and a nice cheese. The star was the Casserole. Served with a lovely pastry lid, the beef was tender and juicy. The gravy delish Fi was delighted with the accompanying veg, so often an afterthought. It was freshly and wonderfully cooked. The staff were efficient, friendly in a quiet professional way and the atmosphere was very relaxed. Well done to them.

Stopped off here for an evening meal, the dining area was full, and 2 empty tables reserved. We we put on a small table by the toilets, which wasn't very nice, but we opted to stay. We ordered our meals, scampi and ribs at 6.15, by 7pm the meals hadn't arrived, we queried this and was told by the staff that there was only one chef, and he is only human, which I thought was quite rude. If we were informed of the waiting time when we arrived, we could have made a decision to stay or not. Whist waiting for the food the 3 members of staff were making comments about the customers and laughing, not very professional. When the food arrived, the ribs were straight out of a packet, not fresh ribs. Not very nice, and not worth the money.

We were staying at Bunroy caravan site which is about 500m from the Stronlossit Inn. We decided to go for dinner; I had haddock & chips and my wife who is gluten intolerant wanted the same minus the batter as they didn't mention a GF option. Instead they prepared the fish on a bed of new potatoes (as some people can't manage anything cooked in oil that has previously had gluten in it) with peas and carrots, which she found very good. I also enjoyed my fish & chips. So if you do have any food intolerances it's worth asking as they appear to be more flexible than the menu suggests

Called without booking on a busy Friday evening, frankly to avoid eating in our awful hotel elsewhere in the village. The contrast couldn't have been more stark (Roy Bridge please note!). Very accommodating - they found us a table immediately despite being very busy. We were happy to wait for service as they were busy serving existing diners and were very apologetic. The food was excellent and good value for money and the ambience relaxing. The owner was also very hospitable.

A bit hit and miss. We ordered the Haddock and chips, and the pretzel burger with cheese and bacon with 2 sides of onion rings. The haddock and chips was lovely. The burger turned up with no cheese or bacon, so had to go without, or the onion rings. We finally got the onion rings as we finished our meal. We couldn't eat them as they were just so greasy which was a shame as they looked lovely but a mouth full of oil is not nice.

Having spent the day walking Ben Nevis, and stopping only a few hundred yards down the road, we decided to try the Stronlossit for tea. I already knew I wanted “something with gravy” so the beef and ale casserole was an easy choice for me! It came with a puff pastry lid (which I have no issue with as it wasn’t described as a “pie” ) vegetables and a choice of potato. I went with chips for gravy dipping. Other half went for the rack of lamb which was in a red wine sauce with Provençal vegetables and potatoes. My casserole was honestly the best I’ve ever tasted (my mother doesn’t know this of course!) melt in the mouth beef and a rich gravy - no leftovers on my plate! The other half also enjoyed the lamb, and appreciated that when asking for mint sauce - the chef quickly whipped up a fresh one ( no jars here). Honestly very surprised this doesn’t have a higher trip advisor rating. The food was excellent and the service was spot on - one very busy waitress looking after the bar lounge area expertly. Will be returning if we get chance this week - the fish and chips looked immense and I fancied a pudding too!

Two people sitting by entrance door smoking and 2 more inside by the bar. Sadly there was no atmosphere inside, looked dowdy and slightly unkempt, had 2 drinks and a packet of crisps - boy was it expensive! Chap behind the bar wouldn't make conversation - even with the 'locals'. Another couple came in and didn't buy the two bottles of water - I think they were seriously expensive - they left.

I'm afraid I sent my pasta of the day dish back. At £15.95 tagliatelle with about one shredded leaf of spinach and a quarter of a spring onion in garlic sauce was pretty awful. My husband had fish and chips and again very mediocre

The food is well cooked and tasty with enough to eat. Varied menu with veggie, meat and fish options. Immense starter if you have the grilled goat's cheese with mediterranean vegetables. A main course in itself almost! I had steak and ale casserole 2 nights, and sea bass and a different dish on 2 other nights. All tasty. The desserts are good especially the chocolate and orange torte and the sticky toffee pudding although that could have done with some dates or some other fruit in it. I had cheeseboard one night and was disappointed. Very pricy for not much cheese! The staff are excellent. Very helpful and friendly and the service is quick. Good malt whisky selection including some quite rare ones. Average wine list.

Met up with some relatives while staying in the hotel and had a meal with them here. The food was excellent and well presented and the staff accommodated us eating outside in the nice weather. Had the fish followed by sticky toffee pudding and it was excellent, especially as they also served local ales.

We came here despite reviews and suggestions from our host that it wasn't as good as other restaurants in the area. We were pleasantly surprised. We had eaten at two other spots nearby, much more expensive, and we liked the food here better than either of the other two. We skipped appetizers and had Belhaven black ale to start. Then I had a Thai green chicken curry with fruity rice (raisins) which was delicately and nicely flavored and my partner had sea bass with sauteed potatoes, vegetables, and chorizo which was delicious. We ended with carrot cake with arabeschi orange ice cream and a chocolate torte with ice cream, both extremely yummy.

We never actually ate there because when we went they said they were busy we and it would be a 45 minute wait. We said OK can you put us on the list. They said no we don't have a list and will be closing in about 15 minutes. They were obviously not interested in serving people not staying there.

I can't say anything about the food because I did not try anyway, but I found this a lovely place to stop for a drink after a long walk along the nearby Ice Age Landscape.

Stopped here after a long day driving, staff were friendly, cosy relaxed atmosphere. Food was very tasty, maybe a bit expensive but that’s the general pricing in this part of the country! Was nice and would recommend

We stopped to get a cup of tea and they wouldnt accept any card payments under 10 pounds without tellig us in advance and they forced us to end up spending 1w pounds for an untosted sandwich as they didnt even have a toaster. 8 pounds for bread ham and mustard with no way out. It was a joke. The staff was rude and unacceptable. We were treated like a piece of meat for no reason. They were thieves and they dont deserve anyone going there. And the food was horrible too other than just overpriced. Many better options down the road.

We all had Sunday lunch (£22), service was good and waitress was friendly. However the Roast dinner was lukewarm, the beef was far from tender and the Yorkshire pud was clearly reheated and very greasy. The bar wasn’t able to provide many of the beers/lagers on tap. Altogether a very disappointing visit. We were here last year and I still remember The Venison I had. Clearly new management/chef. Definitely give it a miss.

No food on offer other than crisps, ice cream and a meagre offering of cake, shocked as we were there for a 1pm show and had travelled over an hour thinking we would be fine for lunch at the theatre. Staff were fine, no hint of getting things done in a timely fashion and not much interaction with customers. Decor is depressing, such a big space makes it cold and echoey. Just no atmosphere whatsoever. Very disappointed and won't be back.

Avoid this place . Poorly cooked frozen fish and staff who see you as sn inconvenience. They add a 10% service charge and offer rubbish service.
