Updated review May 2025 Since the original review was written below I have been back on several occasions due to its very convenient position & quality. I'm always impressed how busy the pub is & I just wanted to commend the staff who work so hard, I cannot recommend it if you are in a real hurry ( the full carpark should be a clue!)but the staff are always apologetic if service is slightly slow but the food has always been well presented & delicious from a slightly different menu which makes a great change! Excellent!! Very well placed restaurant/bar (food orientated rather than a pub) just off M56 junction. Outdoor seating area around front of building with large carpark. Good choice of cask ales although not tested on visit! Food menu adequate not extensive with vegitarian options and on day visited very enjoyable!

On the way back from Nottingham, called in for a break and something to eat. Sat outside and ordered fish and chips and grilled pork chop. The fish and chop were fine, sadly we can't say the same about the 'chunky chips'. They were like cardboard, over done and just not edible. Mentioned it to a member of staff who apologised but in all honesty didn't care. Would not recommend especially considering the price of the meals

Gorgeous Spring evening with loads of people inside and out. We both had salad; one greens and grains and tje other chicken caesar with a side of triple fried chips. Absolutwly gorgeous, fresh and vibrant. Server was lovely and very efficient.

Lovely lunch with family, staff were friendly. Spacious interior, pleasant atmosphere. We dined in the dog friendly area of the restaurant. Food was plentiful and of a good standard - I’d give it a 4/5 for food - mostly because I go for quality over quantity. No issues, but I do have the Vintage Inn app, which sadly no one asked before I paid therefore it was too late to add the visit on for perks of the app. Shame they had ran out of Lucky Saint alc free beer, so only Peroni 0% available. We dine in a few local Vintage Inns in Yorkshire and I am used to being brought a bowl of water for the dogs, I just took them outside to use the water bowl by the door as effective pretty busy.

We booked a table for four, for 6.15 and despite arriving 15 mins early we were shown to a table on arrival. The maitre d' explained how everything would work and identified our server by name which I liked. Our server Adam was very attentive, helpful and efficient. We ate from the weekend special, 3 courses for £30, menu. The ladies had pate and Sea Bass followed by mini fruit crumble with custard which was quote "to die for". The gents had dried and turf, 10oz rib-eye steak with garlic prawns. Very tasty, and passed the clean plate test.

Great service by Helen today food was delicious and we have had a lovely night. Thank you very much we will be back soon :) .

I'm sorry, I was so looking forward to eating at the Fox, but the food was appalling. We chose the bar snacks. They were overcooked, dry and tasteless. When asked about portion size, the server said people always left lots, to indicate large portions. I think it indicates the quality of the food. I'm hoping to add a picture of the food we LEFT at the next stage.

Fabulous food, had the trio Sunday lunch staff helpful and great service

Yesterday was our first visit since moving from Warrington 3 years ago, and it was a welcome return !! The place was smart and tidy, the welcome warm, and despite being a busy Bank Holiday, we were able to book for a late lunch without difficulty. The Menu was fine, each of us finding something suitable without problem, and service was pleasant and prompt. There was a slight issue with one of the starters, but that was resolved, and the rest of us ploughed on regardless (!) without problem. Excellent food, we had the 3 for £12 bar snacks which were really tasty and very generous portions. We also had the Signature burger which was delicious, the best burger we’d had for a long time. Excellent value and would recommend.

Food is really really nice, worth every penny, our waitress Emma was soo nice and friendly just genuine, we come up for a weekend away and got lucky with this place 10/10 recommend

We met friends here for lunch and ordered from the set menu. The pub is very nicely set out and staff were polite and friendly but the wait for food and drinks was way too long. When the food came it was okay but you could tell that it had been plated for a while and sat under heat lamps. We were offered complimentary tea or coffee as an apology which was nice but we had run out of time and couldn't wait another 20 minutes for it to arrive. All in all, a disappointing 2.5 hours for two courses. We wanted this to be good as it's well placed, accepted dogs and we would have made it a regular destination. Need to think again.

It was the worst experience we've had in a long time. Service was terrible (waiting 15 minutes for drinks to our table). Food was luke warm at best, and the service was shocking. Staff seemed disinterested in our needs. After food was served, no staff asked us if things were OK, and they totally ignored us. The only thing they were quick at was producing the bill. It took 45 minutes for fishfinger sandwiches. Will not return here again. No wonder the hospitality trade is suffering if you go by these standards.

We had a table booked for 630pm. Drinks ordered 5 mins later. Had to ask at 7pm if we could place order for food, and if drinks were on their way? Staff just chatting at till, not checking on patrons. (Note - a very quiet Monday evening). When food arrived it was excellent 👌 Also asked for water for the table. One glass arrived with the bill. Shame, as food was very good.

Had a Sunday Lunch on Mother's Day, it was the best Sunday Lunch I have ever had, everything was perfect. The service was perfect, the staff were efficient, very friendly and polite. I will definitely visit again.

Having booked in a party of 11 for a birthday celebration we arrived in time for 7.30..ordered drinks food and waited..it was near enough 2 hours before our food arrived, mine was barely warm and returned it, only for it to be brought back obviously not re plated but having been microwaved. It was warmer on the edge but not in the middle..the tenderstem broccoli was black and shrivelled. At no time did anyone apologise for such along wait. I mentioned this when paying the bill and was told that they were busy, and had told everyone there was a 40 min wait..surely more bookings should not have been taken knowing how many people needed serving? I showed the 40% off app and was told 'I'll see if it works' ..it did ! do the staff not know 'if ' it works? also my meal was deducted..I did receive an apology then, but only after complaining..Considering your reputation and pricing, this fell well short..proves my point when we started eating at 9.25 and walked out of the door by just after 10p.m.

Abysmal! We would have been better off going to McDonald’s! The food would have been hotter, it would have been tastier and we wouldn’t have had to wait 2 hours for it! We haven’t been to the Stretton fox in a few years and our past experience was always very good. We thought it would be a great choice for our Dads 70th birthday meal celebration, but we were wrong! I don’t know who manages this place, but they aught to seriously consider a career change as clearly this is not their skill set! We pre-booked a table for 11, we arrived on time and were seated. We were not told there was any unusual lead time on food, they didn’t say ‘it’s unusually busy so they’ll be a longer wait’ An hour after ordering we queried where the food was and were told they would check up on it, approaching the 2 hour mark we queried again. When the food finally arrived, it was lukewarm at best and pretty mediocre. Once dish was stone cold. When it was queried, it was taken away and brought back very quickly, clearly been microwaved, all the salad and veg were shrivelled and rock hard, hadn’t been re-plated with fresh. We finished the food at 10pm and we were ready for bed, the thought of ordering a desert was not on the cards, maybe it would have arrived in time for breakfast! Lame apology at the end from the staff, didn’t seem to care. Delays happen, but you have to communicate with your customers! Maybe say ‘sorry, here’s a free round of drinks to make up for our lack of coping with demand’. If you can’t cater for a full house, maybe take some tables away or don’t take the booking! Will not be visiting again, would not recommend, completely spoiled what was supposed to be a special birthday! - Cue the copy and paste ‘sorry we failed to meet you expectations, we will take it on board’ response.

Food was great as always, but the service from our server Ollie was particularly outstanding which really made the evening. ☺️

Driving back from Wrexham to Preston we decided to make a stop at the stretton fox for our Dinner along with two hungry children. Surf and turf for the adults, children's steak and hunters chicken. Steaks cooked to perfection. Service from Andy was excellent. Always checked on us and kept us informed between each course. Will most definitely be making this our monthly stop off point.

I really wanted to like it here as its close to home and need to find somewhere good for Sunday roast. It was OK but could have been so much better. We waited over 40 minutes for the food. Nobody came to the table for over 10 minutes we ended up having to grab someone passing by. When we chased the food it eventually came and although it was nice, the meat portion was very small. There was also only a tiny portion of gravy which made it all SO dry. Of course I would have asked for extra, but nobody returned to the table until our plates were finished. PLEASE sort your service out or if you can't cope with the number of tables maybe consider reducing the occupancy.

Me and the wife decided to visit on Saturday evening, had no booking but did not seem to be a problem, my wife and i both ordered the lamb shank recommended by Andy our waiter, who may I add was extremely helpful and attentive, great chat and welcoming smile. Food absolutely delicious paired with amazing service from Andy. Will definitely be visiting again.

What a massive disappointment. Me and my friend came in on a lovely sunny Wednesday afternoon around 1pm. We hadn't booked , but wished we had because it was very busy. They had a table available but it would be an hour , so we waited. The scouse lad on the booking desk was quite rude when i asked him if there was anybody serving behind the bar. We , eventually , got our drinks. We ordered some more about 20 minutes later - same problem , very busy but no-one serving. One couple we saw had enough and walked out. We were taken to our table , noticing at least 4 empty tables on our way through. I paid £7.95 for the pâté , which was the smallest sliver of pâté i had ever seen served to me. I asked for a bit more and the redhead waitress with tattoos said "you only need to ask" , in a scornful voice. So far then , poor customer service from 2 staff members....and we hadn't even got our mains yet!. My lasagne arrived - in a BOWL - and it was not good. Pasta was just about edible , but the contents were like cat food. Why on earth they put this in a bowl i will never know. It's not 'funky' and was the first time I've ever experienced that. My friend had hunter's chicken i think it was ( they had run out of the Asian chicken bowl choice) She said it was a 4 out of 10 ....not the best she had ever had. Anyway , after a really poor and very disappointing experience , we paid the bill and left. If it hadn't been a nice sunny day with the ambience of a country pub , i probably would have said something. In hindsight and writing this , i now wish i had complained. Poor food. Poor service. Not enough staff ....one behind the bar at the very least is needed. Not impressed at all 😕

Had this places saved on my places to try list for a while. We hadn't booked but was able to get a table, however in future I would book if it's a weekend as it filled up very quickly. We had a table of 4, 2 of us had buttermilk chicken burger which was so nice, my daughter had the fish finger sandwich and hubby had the beef brisket. Food was hot, served reasonably quickly, all good and tasty and not overly priced. Definitely go again

I would like to highly recommend The Stretton Fox and especially our young waiter, Joe. We had a fabulous meal and our waiter, Joe, was fantastic. Joe attended to us promptly, ensuring that our meals were correct and any dietary requests fulfilled. Joe was most pleasant and a credit to The Stretton Fox.

We were a party of eight. Our waiter was amazing. His name is Joe and his service was amazing. Although young Joe looked after us so well from our drinks to desserts he ensured we had a good meal and a great evening. Joe has an amazing future in hospitality

Very warm welcome from the moment you walk you in. All staff were very friendly and chatty, nothing too much trouble. Popped in for lunch with a friend and it was so good that we stayed 3 for hours, oblivious to the time passing us by. The service was excellent, our server was Laura today. We chose to order 2 courses from the lunch menu, you can choose either 2 or 3 courses. I had a salad, which sounds boring, but it was a lovely chicken, bacon and avocado salad, and it was absolutely delicious!! My friend ordered Katsu curry, and she said how delicious that was too. As it’s a lovely spring day, we both opted for a trio of sorbet from the desserts, however there were plenty of other options available too. We are both eagerly looking forward to our return for another lunch date and perhaps a coffee to enjoy the comfortable bar area. I’m certain we will return regularly.

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch at the Stretton Fox. The lamb rump was exceptional, beautiful cooked and extremely tender and well cooked vegetables to accompany it. The staff are very friendly and professional. The choice of desserts was good, I recommend the crumble! The atmosphere is good and very clean. Will certainly going back

A wonderful family celebration meal for my mother in laws 85th birthday. We were made to feel important by everyone, Helen was our server and very attentive constantly checking that everyone was happy, which is hard when you’re a party of 15. Food was great, hot and tasty. Would definitely recommend and return.

Came here on a Sunday recently with my husband and son at 5pm, as it was fully booked earlier, and we sat down to order. I asked for the mushrooms for a starter and the reply was that there was none left. So then my husband and I both ordered lamb, and again there was none. So I ended up having beef instead. But I was extremely disappointed at the lack of availability, as it was over £20 each, after ordering cauliflower and pigs blankets. Nice atmosphere inside, and we were given a nice table, but the experience was a let down for me personally, and sadly I will not be returning.

Superb food and lovely atmosphere

The food was fabulous, we selected from the 3 course valentine special menu, could not fault it. The real highlight was the impeccable service from Emma. From the minute she came to our table my wife and I knew we were in for a special experience. She is an absolute credit to your business. Nothing negative to add.

Went for the dinner menu today and it was great value for money and delicious! Fishcakes were amazing!

It's difficult to recognise the turn off to this pub. I overshot and went on the M56. As the correct tun off had a dead end sign and looks like a private lane. I went round the roundabout 4 times until I chanced the correct turn off.

We have been to the Stretton fox before, but unfortunately this time, we were really let down and underwhelmed. Food took ages to arrive at our table, and when it did it was cold and bland. Service was polite but very slow and we ended up paying our bill on the way out of the door. Unfortunately won’t be returning.
