Just had the fish and chips WOW just wow what a difference the fish was beautiful and the chips are awesome

Very good fish, fresh well cooked, juicy and soft, as it should be! highly recommend.

Really good quality fish and chips and fantastic portions. The new owners are very polite and offer good service. Alex always comes and says hello to my infant son and splits out his own portion of chips so they don't get covered in salt and vinegar. We don't go anywhere else for our F+C takeaway

Beautiful fish freshly cooked to order with lovely light batter , fantastic crispy chips that have been double dipped ,perfect mushy peas, The best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. I would highly recommend. Alex the owner, is a great guy too.

The best fish and chips I've had for years! I am fussy and to be honest a chippy lunch these days is usually a let down. However this was the best chippy lunch I have had for many years. My mum had cod which was bigger than expected and the batter was so crispy but not greasy. I had chips and gravy, and the chips weren't those ridiculously fat ones that resemble a roast potato like many chip shops do nowadays, but normal size chippy chips. They were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Gravy was nice too. The staff were friendly, helpful, generous and caring. I will definitely go back for more. I regret not taking a photo to share. Absolutely gorgeous food and a good price considering the size of the fish.

I thought I would try the fish and chips under the new ownership of the Strawberry Pig, as I knew it would be a hard act to follow since John retired after 30 years. OMG, I don't know what they cook the fish in, but it was disgusting!! I paid £6.90 for a fish I had to throw in the bin. Please come back John!!!!

The Strawberry Pig is under new management and they are doing a fantastic job! They have already been involved in new events for Poynton and have approached them with relish and a smile. The new owners are so friendly and helpful - they can't do enough and are clearly so passionate about their business... and most importantly, they make an excellent portion of chips! Fresh and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just as they should be! I'm a veggie so can't comment on the fish, but the cheese and onion pie was lovely, and they even do a huge, delicious spring roll which came piping hot! Thanks to all at the Pig, I'll be back!

Second time that i have posted this review now SOMEBODY MUST HAVE TAKEN IT OFF???.been going in this chippy for years now as the food was great although in Comparison to other chippys it was quite expensive but after all you get what you pay For. Previous owner has left now and the business has been taken over by somebody else I went in for my usual fish chips and peas only to be charged an extra £2.50 for cold Chips watered down peas and bland tasting fish,I CONFRONTED THE OWNER and Was told that his prices had been increased by his supplier which is utter codswallop Pardon the pun, 50 P hike in price for fish fair enough but £2.50 cmon your taking the michael thats the last time ill be going in there Not a patch on the previous owners food,and if this post gets taken down again ill be Sticking it up again

The strawberry Pig has been taken over by a delightful family. We had a very long day and found these guys and they just finished our day off perfectly. Food was great and the service went above and beyond. The gravy was scrumptious! A thoroughly enjoyable tea…thanks guys ❤️

I have been coming to The Strawberry Pig with my family since I was a little girl and I’m pleased to say that the new family ownership with Alex and his team are fantastic - very friendly staff, perfectly cooked fish, with very generous portions of chips. The curry sauce and potato scallops which Alex recommend I try were also delicious and might just be my new lunchtime treat! If you live in Poynton or surrounding areas you won’t find a better chippy than this - support a family run local business and give it a try - you won’t be disappointed! Sabrina xoxo

Been going to this chippy for years while John had it The new owner increased the price of fish chips and peas by £2.50 I wouldn’t mind if the food was as good as when John had it but it isn’t in my opinion the peas were watery as though watered down chips were scrappy fish was tasteless so that’s the last time I’ll be in there

We would like to thank Alex and his team at The Strawberry Pig Poynton for supporting our school bingo night! They supplied fish, sausages and chips on mass for the event and it was enjoyed by everyone. Their food was delicious - really fresh and tasty! We would recommend The Strawberry Pig for anyone looking for fresh fish and chips. They are a fantastic local fish and chip shop and the staff are so welcoming and helpful

We stopped at the Strawberry Pig twice on our stay in Poynton and loved it! The food was delicious and you get a lot of food for the price! The service was friendly and quick as well. I wish they had seating at the restaurant but it was nice to be able to eat at home too.

Large portions, great value, fast service. The fish was large, tasty and very moist with a delicious crispy batter. Chips were cooked to perfection and gravy was gorgeous with the right hint of herbs and spices. Highly recommended

Disappointing! If you are going to serve chips and gravy make sure there is gravy on it - not just a tablespoon. New madras curry sauce was terrible - you need to work on your flavours. Chips undercooked. Inexperienced staff that don’t know what they are doing, not their fault. Make sure your staff are properly trained. Has a great reputation as a chippy - I’m yet to be convinced. I will try again in a few weeks

Terrible service and they even got the order of just fish and chips wrong...!!! Unfortunately didn't realise till I got home, then when I called to explain they weren't the slightest bit bothered. Would not recommend.

Beautiful freshly fried Haddock with light but tasty batter. Buy even better the chips are the best I have tasted in months....not the likes of French fries but proper chunky chips perfectly fried. Brilliant!

Been twice now the last time was yesterday the 23rd we won't be going again !! The fish was just batter and awful the chips was not cooked properly and the gravy had a weird taste to it ... I gave it the benifit of the doubt last time but clearly this is just a continuation of badly cooked food and at £20 a time its rubbish

Once again, closed early without warning. Shuts before closing time, man in front tried door, told they had just shut, at 7:50?.Neither he, nor we were happy. A few weeks ago went in with 20 mins to spare, told that everything had been put away. Lazy and not a way to keep customer's happy. Well, you have lost a customer for good now.

Disappointing meal tonight despite being early 5:15. Fish was dry and overcooked, stuck to the batter so couldn’t cut it off. Chips were far too many and only just cooked through but the curry sauce was very nice. I shan’t waste £7plus there again. At least when I spoke to the manager he did apologise.

We cycled out of Macclesfield along the Middlewood Way in order to try the Strawberry Pig. The shop (and the staff!) were all very well presented. We ordered 2 x lightly battered haddock, chips and mushy peas and found a place on our way home to eat them on our way home. The food was excellent, fresh fish and chips, which is always a great dish.All the best to the owner and staff of the Strawberry Pig - keep up the good work......

Had a fab fish, chips and mushy peas tea to celebrate the end of the week. The batter on the fish was crisp and fresh and so were the chips They continue to provide quality food, then again they have been serving the hungry people of Poynton for over 30 years! Nice to see they’ve gone biodegradable with their serving trays and bags. Highly recommended for your chippy tea!

Full disclosure, I love this place. Its the best fish and chips ever. The owner always has time to speak to you as you stand there opened mouthed wondering what delights to indulge in. I still havent been able to get beyond the fabulous fish, in incredible batter, fluffy yet crisp chips, perfectly accompanied by his own special recipe mushy peas. Anyway, I felt i just had to write about this place after my annual pilgrimage, as they have just introduced paper only packaging, refillable drinks, and even forks that look and feel like quality plastic, but are actually made of some sort of resin that will degrade pronto when disposed of. Well done Strawberry Pig. Lets hope others follow your example. See you soon!

Very good Fish and Chips with large portions. The small orders are perfect for anyone who doesn't have a massive appetite like me! I also like the fact that they do a Senior Special on Fridays, very popular at lunchtime.

Outstanding fish and chips delivered in an environmentally friendly way. Who could ask for more? The food is great, the staff are a delight, and they're not lobbing a lot of plastic into the environment.

Unfortunately Marie wasn't feeling to well and didn't want to go out for a meal so take away was on the cards.Off I went to the Strawberry Pig and ordered Cod, chips and peas twice. The fish was cooked to order but it didn't take long. Staff were polite and courteous.Once home we tucked in fabulous food

Didn't this shop used to be in Wilmslow ? They had a board up with a rhyme on it that began, "The strawberry pig of St Tropez....." The rest I have forgotten and would love to have it again to remind me of those times.

We were in town and were looking for somewhere to get our evening meal. We came across the Strawberry Pig and decided to give it a try. The prices were very expensive but we were a captive audience. The food was okay, I have had worse. Will not call again.

It is many years since I have had fish and chips from the above. The shop name has always stuck in my mind ( a marketing success), but mainly the fish and chips - delicious. Not to much batter.

I've been eating at The Strawberry Pig since I was a child and it never faulters the fish is always fresh and the portions are generous. Its the kids favourite place for a chippy and although there are sometimes long queues at busy times it's a sign of how popular the place is

Called in Saturday night 16 people in-front of me, always a good sign. 2 young staff serving food who were going a fab job, very friendly (but not to chatty) communicating to each other (so not duplicating work) & quick. Was a little shocked at the owner (who was doing the cooking) he 'barked' a couple of times while I was in the Que at the staff to be quicker. Not the way to keep your staff happy - felt really sorry for them as you could tell it unnerved them.

Extremely friendly staff offering a fine chip shop selection including all the traditional favourites eg fish, pies, sausage, fish cakes & scampi. I've tried most of the menu now & remain convinced that this remains one of the best chip shops on the north west. Limited parking but there is parking close by at the library located near Waitrose.

Lived local for 20+ years, always freshly cooked fish, I prefer Haddock which is cooked to order, served with a lemon wedge, a large portion of chips is ample for 2 persons in our house.

Been to this Fish and Chip shop for around 18 years. Always been fantastic. Staff are friendly and helpful and the food is always fresh and cooked beautifully. I have tried the majority of the menu over the years and haven’t found a single thing I haven’t enjoyed. I brought my other half as I wanted her to try it and she also loved it! It’s a regular occurrence for us. Keep at it Strawberry Pig!

Everyone there was really friendly and helpful. The shop was nice and tidy with there being a vast selection of foods to buy if you do not want haddock or cod. they also put a lovely amount of salt and vinegar on my fish and chips

Great take-away food is what you want when you fancy not cooking one evening and The Strawberry Pig does not disappoint! Golden, crunchy batter with firm, flaky fish beneath and chips to die for. Tasty to the very end!

Recommended by a friend, who said food always good. Ordered fish chips and mushy peas £13.90 for two, fish cook fresh for us and large portions, fish was beautiful with very crispy batter, which was still crispy by the time we got it home. Staff lovely and cheerful
