Visited for the first time to staff, and have to say after spending over 15 consecutive years of coming to Cornwall the people who run and serve in this cafe are the friendliest and nicest owners I have ever met. Can highly recommend

Friendly service and ambience, however the coffee and hot chocolate we ordered were very dissapointing. I am sure it was just an unlucky day for the employee that served us, as reading from the other reviews the coffee seems to be very nice. The hot chocolate was extremely hot and seems to hold a hefty price tag at £4. The Macchiato I ordered just seemed to be a cup of warm water with some coffee aftertaste. I would be more than happy to try this little cafe out again judging from the other reviews.

We were staying in the area and had the beach recommended by a friend. Arriving on a blustery morning, we were delighted to see The Strand Cafe setting up for the day (they open at 10am). Welcomed by the new owner Joey (very smiley and lovely), who took our order and made us feel totally at home. We left full up, but did buy a couple of home made cookies for the afternoon ... which were yummy!! Highly recommended and will definitely be returning with friends!!

Banging little coastal cafe, with a great vibe, great food, great service, and a stunning view of the dramatic Atlantic Ocean to boot. The Strand Cafe is a perfect spot to grab a light snack and to kick back and relax - take in that sunshine whilst people watching and listening to the waves crash in 😎 On our way from Tintagel to Padstow for a sea swim (via the coastal lanes) we decided to stop off at Trebarwith Strand late morning to find something to eat, we were quite hungry. We were going to head for the pub (Port William Inn) but saw this little beauty and decided on going here instead - turned out to be a blooming good choice 👍 A charming little independent beach-side cafe, with plenty indoor and outdoor seating, and refreshing hot and cold drinks, snacks, cakes, and hot food. There are vegetarian and vegan options available too! On our visit, we shared a delicious fresh crab sandwich and chips with a pot of tea…we also had a couple tasty Pasteis de Nata’s (Portuguese custard tart) to take away 😋 The food was delish👌 The lady who served us was incredibly welcoming and friendly, and nothing was a rush or a burden. This place is also dog friendly, which is a real bonus 🐾 There are two car parks a short walk back up the road that provide plenty of parking. Like most coastal villages and towns across Cornwall, Trebarwith Strand will be chaotically buzzing and there will most likely be a wait for food at this cafe during times of the school holidays. But out of school holiday season, it is a lovely peaceful place to come and waste time and eat delicious food. From reading past reviews found online, this place has recently changed hands, and it is by far the better for it. We would highly recommend this cafe to anyone, and it will certainly become a regular stop-off point when we are out on the coast! 14-04-2024 Many thanks - B & A

Not a great experience really. The location is great, and the cafe probably has a monopoly on this stunning beach. Visited on a sunny autumn Sunday; there were 6 of us, a 2 y/o, a 4 y/o, parents and grandparents. Spent about £30 on 4 drinks, 2 pasties and 2 soups. £7 for slightly watery, slightly cold leek and potato soup a little steep, but ok. Problem came with the kids - as is pretty standard for kids that age, they're fairly fussy; we usually have a cheese sandwich packed just in case. There was nothing suitable for kids on the menu, and seeing as we'd spent a decent amount as adults, and were sat at a table for 4 (with one extra chair on side, and the toddler on a lap), we hardly thought it was a problem. Turns out it was! As we were finishing, owner came by to say we weren't allowed to eat food not bought at the café. Pretty harsh considering how much we'd just spent feeding the adults. And whilst I appreciate a cafe needs to make money, it was half empty at this point - we weren't taking up the space of other paying customers. I was in the loo when the message was delivered, but my wife also felt it was pretty rudely delivered. The owner's loss really, as with a bit more empathy to the challenge of days out with toddlers, we'd have probably spent another £15 on cakes. Hey ho, next time we'll go to the pub up the road.

Today we took a break at The Strand Cafe by the delightful Trebarwith beach in Cornwall. Witnessing a shocking customers experience has compelled me to produce this comment. A customer was raising a query about wasps and flies in the sugar bowls (these are in fact left uncovered on the tables and are open to wasps and flies and whatever they deposit). The reaction he received, especially from the manager was extreme, unprofessional and unnecessary. Not withstanding the manager failed to acknowledge the health and safety concern that had been raised. He ordered the man out of the shop and at one point I was little concerned that he may punch the customer. The customer had spoken quite tartily himself, nevertheless he raised valid points. He did leave without making any fuss. I'm not sure if the manager knew this or not but the man was disabled as I saw him leaving in a wheelchair. Given the cafe has a monopoly of customers it didn't care about how customers felt. I wonder if there were competition if that would stilll be the case.

I loved having this place right across the street. The food was fresh and really good, whether it was breakfast, tea, or take-away pasties for dinner (we had it all there). The owner is friendly and funny and helped me figure out what dessert to bring to a friend's dinner. There's a snarky review below in which I think the person didn't get the owner's sense of humor, but it's really not an issue--you won't be disappointed!

Went to the cafe in the morning expecting a pre beach snack, little did I know burying my head in the sand would’ve been a nicer experience. The hot chocolates were disappointing at best, unmixed cups of thick sludgy powder. Out of the four cream teas we ordered (two scones per cream tea) only 2 sets of jam and cream came out without us asking for the rest. Staff were minimally helpful. Once cutlery was requested insufficient amounts provided (all we got was a handful of teaspoons) however cutting scones with a tea spoon is a very fun and engaging activity for all ages. Scones broke into more pieces than a smashed window. Overall a 1/10 and the 1 being for the view…

Arrived at 09:50 and the doors were open, I popped my head in and asked if they did Breakfast? I was told no and that they were closed and would be open in 10 to 15 minutes. We decided to wait. At 10 am there was a young lad behind the counter and I went in again and asked if they were open now? The man in the kitchen (presumably the owner?) then shouted “ see the closed sign in the window, when I turn that around to open, we will be open” The closed sign was not that obvious and other people didn’t see it and walked in, to be told they were closed! Admittedly their clock was a few minutes slow but we waited until 10:15 and there was still no sign of opening? I found the Manner in which we were treated to be rude and arrogant, I assume that they rely on the fact that there are limited options around at that time? We did not give any of our custom to this establishment and instead, left and waited until the pub (Port William) opened for lunch, their service and attitude, was/is far better than the Strand Cafe. The owner should remember that they are only in business due to customers choosing to spend their money there and learn a bit of customer service or at least some manners!!!! Needless to say, we will never go there again!

Every year we look forward to a crab sandwich at the Strand, however this year was such a disappointment. The sandwiches were 'ready made', the bread not as fresh as it could be and very little white meat on them. For £48 for 4 sandwiches we thought it was a rip off. We appreciate the 'Covid' issues have been appalling but there was no excuse to sell such poor quality sandwiches.

This might fly in the face of the other reviews on here, but. The service today was truly shocking. Half an hour to order 4 pasties from a hot cabinet? Is that really acceptable? The girl on the till couldn’t concentrate on anything even an order she’d just been told, couldn’t remember the last couple of things. Couldn’t add up and couldn’t work the till properly. The customers had to add up their own bills and tell her. Word came back up the line that customers in the garden that had paid for a crab salad (we’ll bring it out to you) were very annoyed at the portion of crab that turned up..I think it was £12. The attitude to service was apathy and really unprofessional. There’s no competition at Trebarwith so it just felt like you’ll just have to put up with it. Judging by other reviews they let their standards down badly today.

We visited the cafe yesterday for lunch. The coffee was absolutely perfect. The food was very good and good value. Best of all though was the staff. They were very busy and yet were so polite, calm and helpful. A lady came in to the cafe in need of assistance as her husband had been bitten in the sea. The staff member advised her what to do and gave her hot water to help. The lady staff member was absolutely delightful in helping a slightly stressed elderly visitor book a taxi to get him home. She said she would call the taxi herself when he was ready. The staff also offered the use of their phone to a customer that couldn't get a signal on their's. Little gestures maybe, but they leave a great impression.

Late breakfast / early lunch here. Good quality, freshly made foods (mackerel burger, crab salad, crab sandwich and cheese & onion pasty)- all delicious, well-presented and with generous but still healthy portions. Good coffees and a shared slice of homemade cake followed. Counter service was cheerful, friendly and courteous. Table delivery was from younger helpers (who could perhaps use a little extra training) - but all was good. We felt lucky to bag a plum table on what was a mixed and windy day - Strand Café in a prime spot and clearly gets very busy. Pricing is upscale but, we felt, about right given the very good overall quality.

Visited today for what we hoped would be lunch, to be informed quite rudely by what appeared to be the owner, that the kitchen closed at 3 and we could have pasties, chips and cream teas only. I asked if I could have a child’s jam sandwich, “no” he said “the kitchens closed”. So I ordered a pasty, cheesy chips and a cream tea with earl grey. I paid and then stood waiting for my drinks and he said abruptly “we’ll bring it all out”. When the food came there were no drinks or cutlery. I asked the lad who brought the food out for cutlery and he went to get it. When he came back, still with no drinks I then asked him if the drinks were coming and he said they were. We waited quite a while before the drinks came out. Why not wait until it’s all ready and bring it out together? The pasty was distinctly average as were cheesy chips. The cream tea was £6.50 for 1 person!!!! and only had enough cream for one scone when it arrived so I went in and asked for politely for more and the look I got from (probably) the owner...well...! I then realised I had no milk so went in to ask for that. Then there was no sugar on the table either, so I had to borrow from the table next to us. The tea was clearly not earl grey, but having been up to the counter twice after the original order I couldn’t be bothered to go up again and drank it anyway. When my husband wanted a cup of tea after his very average pasty my son went up to the counter and asked for an earl grey tea. When it came out I asked the girl that brought it, this is earl grey isn’t it? and she said she didn’t know. I tasted it and it clearly wasn’t. The 2nd wrong tea. The girl went in side and a minute later the owner came storming outside, up to our table with a face like thunder and said is there something wrong with that tea. We said it’s not earl grey and he argued back “yes it is”. No, ‘I’m sorry let me replace it for you’ - just an argument! I was very shocked by this. He then disappeared into the cafe again and returned with 2 tins of tea and rammed them in our faces declaring I can assure you its earl grey and If you don’t think it tastes right take it up with Williamsons the manufacturers. My husband said it doesn’t taste like earl grey, it’s not at all floral. He replied it’s a “meaty earl grey” - there is NO such thing! Earl grey by definition is a floral tea. Earl grey should also be grey(ish) in colour when milk is added and quite weak but it was strong and orange in colour like builders tea. The owner didn’t once smile or apologise and was just rude throughout. I was genuinely appalled at his manner towards paying customers. He then said I have a Darjeeling inside if you’d like to try that and we both said yes please. Off he went, we thought, to get the tea and ten mins later when no tea arrived my husband went in with the tea he hadn’t drank to ask where his tea was but the owner was not at the counter. So he said to the girl behind the counter, “he said he was coming out with another pot”. She replied “I don’t where he is”. Husband says “He mentioned Darjeeling” - she replies “I don’t know what that is”. My husband leaves in dispair still assuming his tea is coming. Another ten mins pass and still no tea and my husband hadn’t had a drink yet. So I go in and the owner is back behind the counter, I say “I thought you were bringing another pot out?” and he replied “no I wasn't”. I stared at him in astonishment! I then said “we both heard you say you were getting a pot of Darjeeling and we’ve been sat outside for over 20 mins waiting for it”. He didn’t say would you like one now, or sorry for the misunderstanding he just walked away. So I also walked out, back to my table shocked by this guys behaviour. All we wanted was the cup of tea we paid £2.50 for. When I came out without the tea my husband was quite unhappy by this having gone inside himself 20 mins earlier. So in he goes to ask where his tea is? The man says the same to him, very rudely “I didn’t say I was getting you a new one”. My husband replied yes you did, we both heard you and I even came in 10 mins ago to see where it was, didn’t the girl tell you? Owner replies “She said you put her on the spot” what by asking where my tea was in a cafe? My husband tried to discuss the point quite calmly, but every time he spoke the owner interrupted and spoke over him. At this point my husband said “Do you usually interrupt every time a customer has something to say? Let me finish please, I’m appalled at your lack of customer service” and the owners reply was “leave my cafe”. At which point we did as this clearly wasn’t going anywhere. So we paid £2.50 and didn’t get to drink any tea! Without doubt the worst place to eat and NOT drink in Cornwall in 20 years of coming here twice a year!

Superb cafe, great coffee and hot chocolate. Oh and amazing scones too. Very friendly staff who let my mum stay in the cafe while we went down to the beach. Thank you

Small friendly cafe with an amazing view and food to match, if you want a burger then you will enjoy, I went for the pear and goats cheese salad, which was the best I have ever had, the dressing added to the flavour which was fresh and tangy as well as sweet. You will not be disappointed whatever you choose. Will definitely be back.

Nice cafe with lovely cakes... though watch that they don't short change you! The lady on the counter forgot to give me £10 and didn't even apologize for the mistake...

We found this place after a walk through the coast from Tintagel and we really enjoyed it. Lovely pasties and really nice coffee. Recommended to recharge your batteries and feel the beautiful brezze of the sea. Great service.

I visited on a quiet Mzy day. They were doing a 'deep clean' on the kitchen so limited food on offer.

I went here without any expectation of being excellent. Was I every wrong. I had the best cappuccino I have had in ages. I don't know what coffee they use and I wish I did so I could buy it, or if it was the machine making the coffee either way, this place is worth a visit for the coffee alone.

Lovely setting near the beach with parasols and bunting. My boyfriend had the mackerel fillets and I had the pollock goujons and we had half of each, seriously good!!! Can’t beat fresh fish by the sea on a sunny day, very good value, cans of drink just £1. Will be back

Very welcoming and friendly. The coffee was surprisingly good and that comes from someone known to be very fussy about their coffee. The hot chocolate was ridiculously chocolatey, much to the delight of my son.

Looking forward to Lunch at The Strand. We were met by rude disinterested staff, but worse was to come . After a very, very long wait ,burger buns stale and mouldy. No one wanted lunch after that.Crab sandwich tasty but filling sparse.

After our lovely swim in the sea we went to the Strand cafe for tea and snacks. I went in the cafe to order and the two people behind the counter were very frosty the atmosphere was cold and unfriendly. I ordered our food and drinks and was asked what our table number was, I said, "I didn't realise there were table numbers" and went out to look, the lady and man serving raised their eyebrows at each other. The tables outside had not been cleared although, the cafe was pretty empty so we moved to a table that was less cluttered. The man came out with our tray of food I caught his eye and said "we have moved over here", he glared at my brother and I and literally threw the tray onto the table and walked off. It was an extremely unpleasant experience after such a blissful afternoon on the beach. Also, the prices of the sandwiches are extortionate- £12 for the crab and £8 for the vegetarian. Why do people in hospitality positions feel the need to be rude??..I will definitely NOT be going back!!!

The Victoria Sponge was lovely ! However the scone was salty and the very overpriced. Everything was overpriced so don’t go here if you’re looking for good value for money

To me, this is the sort of cafe you would like in your locality. Pleasant staff with a good range of choices on the menu. The coffee is good as were the treats on offer - from cakes to sandwiches. You are able to eat in or outside.

After a slight walking route malfunction we accidently ended up in Port William. Thinking positive we tried to find some lunch. As a stingy person I don't normally spend £13 on a lunch salad but lured in by samphire and crab I took a risk and I'm so glad. It was fresh, flavoursome and there loads of it! The other half had a fish finger sandwich which was equally brilliant. When there's so few options in a small place you don't need to be good at food but this place stepped it up.

After a chilly swim with the huge waves we came into warm up with a coffee. Friendly staff and a good Oat Milk flat white accompanied by a slice of Vegan lemon drizzle, which was absolutely delicious! Everyone found something they liked and the cafe caters for many dietary needs with a good range of vegan options which was surprising for such a small place.

We had breakfast here 3 mornings in a row as the kids loved it so much! A perfect spot right by the beach and cove with great views of the crashing waves. Delicious bacon sandwiches and coffee, and great hot chocs for the kids. Also a good selection of family board games which we played over breakfast. Will definitely return!

Really nice welcome, we came in early and the bat man was happy to serve food before the actual serving time. He was very nice and nothing was too much. Will definitely come here again.

Really enjoyed a full English and coffee there with some work alongside. An Even Better If could be a slightly more patient service
