Quarryman in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Had dinner here recently and have to say that this is hands down the best place to eat in the area. Great traditional pub food and a really good selection of draft beers. Service was also spot on and the team super welcoming. Definitely recommend this place if you are in the area !

Another fantastic stay at The wonderful Quarryman. Always the warmest of welcomes, fine ales, delicious meals and excellent service! Once again, thank you to Guy and all the staff for making our trip so comfortable and memorable. Already looking forward to our next visit.

We’ve been coming to the Quarryman each year on the first night of our hols for a while now. Always a pleasant experience. The Steak and Ale pie is fab together with chips and buttered greens, and ham, egg and chips a welcome pub favourite. Onion rings to be very proud of. The bar area is dog friendly. Ample parking and outside seating if preferred.

Great busy pub, awesome food and service. We liked it so much we went back the next night again while staying at Chapel Farm campsite about 200yards away

I've had nice evening meals there but the Sunday lunch was very disappointing. Tough lamb, overcooked veg and tough potatoes, not nice at all.

Great pub find, just off main Wadebridge road. Great service and excellent beer and food. Will be back!

I would always contact the management first which I did via email but no reply before posting here to give them an opportunityto respond. This is what I said. . Good morning,  We came to you a couple of weeks ago. First time, even though we have been coming to Wadebridge for over 50 years as children and adults. We were really impressed that visit and I decided to bring my wife back last night for a final meal before going home.  2 comments I couldn't see or taste any bacon in my chicken, leek and bacon pie. Was it there? Also the portion of gravy was a bit small so we asked for some extra. The waitress never said it was chargeable but it cost another £1.50. I checked your menu online and it's not on the sides menu that I can see. I have never been charged extra for gravy before! I did question this with the person who I paid but he went from being really polite on arrival to a only pone word yes in quite a forceful manner. I decided not to challenge any further and left still giving a tip for the waitress.  We were both surprised and disappointed. It's not the money but more that we should have been told although I do think charging for gravy after two full meals is ridiculous. I hope this feedback is helpful and delivered politely. 

We came in as a party of 8 having eaten here before. Friendly efficient service. The place is clean and well cared for inside and out and is dog friendly. Having ordered 2 steaks- one sirloin, the other a rib eye, my Dad’s ribeye was very gristly and he barely ate any of it leaving the cut up remnants on his plate. The waiting staff took it away having asked how the meal was and having been informed that the steak was tough said absolutely nothing and offered no apology despite the amount of “meat” left behind. I would have thought that a refund of this meal or some gesture of goodwill might have been offered as my Dad barely ate a mouthful of the £25 steak. When we enquired about this meal being knocked off the bill the waiter said “what you need to realise is that ribeye IS fatty” Please don’t patronise us, we know the difference between gristle and fat. Had we known they would not offer is a reduced bill, we wouldn’t have stayed longer and ordered dessert.. All restaurants can have issues with some of the food they serve but this problem could have been resolved professionally and fairly and the resulting review here would have been glowing. Poor customer service costs restaurants repeat business - not to mention the all Important loss of word of mouth recommendations. Such a shame as all other meals were lovely and no complaints, but we won’t be back on the basis that we left feeling ripped off.

We searched on here to find a decent pub for a Sunday dinner and it was lovely. A lovely little pub with friendly staff and amazing food and decently priced.

Pizza was really nice and my partner had a burger that was really nice as well

Couldn't fault anything, the service was excellent, the food was even more impressive... I had the special crab salad... completely blown away.......

What a find this place was. A proper pub. The staff were great and gave our daft dog treats. The vegetable lasagne was the nicest I've had eating out, very tasty with a good selection of veg. Chips hand cut and delicious not your normal same old... Soup and whitebait starter were great. Will definitely be back

Popped in for dinner and a pint after cycling the Camel trail. Stayed at the nearby Laurels campsite. Staff were friendly and attentive, food was reasonably priced and decent sized portions. Steak was well cooked as I asked it to be. Local cider was very nice. Nicely decorated to match the Quarryman style and period with photos and relevant artwork. Would recommend if you're in the area.

Food and service were excellent. Will definitely visit again.

Excellent off the beaten track pub. Good selection of beers, but ultimately the food shone out. Excellent tasting food at reasonable prices. Plenty of parking available opposite

After recent disappointment in the midlands at various pubs I went here with somewhat low expectations. However, we were absolutely overwhelmed with the service and standard of food. The menu is basic and typical English pub main meal fare. Nothing wrong with that, any food whether traditional, modern or fusion etc just needs to be done properly. The fish and chips and steak were of the highest standards and it’s a shame we couldn’t stay to try the Sunday menu. Highly recommended.

Excellent Gastro pub, super friendly despite the exceptionally busy time over the Royal Cornwall Show. Stacey was an absolute star! Great services, the Bass was excellent. Highly recommend.

The actual staff were really nice but the rest of this place was just really poor! Waited over an hour for our mains when it wasn’t even that busy. And it’s very pricey considering the standard of food, could probably cook better at home. Very disappointed! And the overall decor is like you are in some very very old rugby social club and has a stail smell. Do not recommend.

I read a review saying that the chicken, leek and bacon pie had no chicken in it. I thought this can’t be true, so I ordered it. Literally not a single piece of chicken and just one tiny bit of bacon. Chef’s gravy was most definitely Bisto.tasting. Such a shame as this is a nice little pub, the staff are delightful too- food at best average. Don’t order the pie. They did bring me a a burger instead, but they really should not be selling chicken pie with no chicken in it.

Were in a house next door. You can eat well there and have enough on your plate. You can also enjoy a beer in the pub.

The food on this establishment is very good indeed. I have not been disappointed. The staff are all very friendly too. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

Maybe we caught them on an off day but we were not impressed. Chips were soggy and overcooked (fat not hot enough or reheated) chicken and leek pie had a lid which looked to be cooked separately, not much chicken and served with leek and broccoli. Already plenty of leek in the pie! Chefs gravy was uninspired. Very friendly and good service but the food was disappointing.

We visited on the off chance for our evening meal. The service and food were both excellent. A good selection of beers and local food were available . Attentive staff made us feel at home, no pressure to order. The dining area was busy with people of all ages. If I lived closer this would be my local pub.

Very nice and friendly. Service was about to end and they gave us plenty of warning, and took the order efficiently even though we went off menu a bit without making us feel like it was rushed. We were asked if we wanted more drinks half way through the food which is my personal green flag! I'm now asleep in the car, being driven home.

Large group of us descended on the pub (we had pre-booked) they handled us in there stride … food came out in a timely manner and was good, bar staff did a great job of keeping up with our orders, good selection of cider and beers….. happy to recommend it

Our first visit and definitely not our last. We all had roast beef which was cooked to perfection. The bar staff and waitresses were all excellent, attentive and friendly. Highly recommended….

We booked and stopped here (family of 14) for sunday lunch after a weekend break at Retallack (less than 10 mins away). As well as being a very convenient stop, the staff were very welcoming and accommodating to our large party. The food and service was excellent and very good value for money. Would definitely recommend and would have no issue stopping here more often en route home from Newquay, the 7 bays or Wadebridge and Padstow.

Great food and service from the staff . Steak was cooked to perfection. I struggle with noisy eateries, where sound bounces around, and it was a busy night. Other than that, I definitely recommend a visit.

One of the worst Sunday lunches I have ever eaten. Cold plates, pre sliced meat, un seasoned vegetables just slopped on plates, and the same watery gravy served with the Beef and Lamb options. The landlord informed of my disappointment and he confirmed the food was not up to the standard they expect and chef had since left… but not willing to make things right; hence we will not be returning nor recommending to visitors. As an aside - the outside of the pub is charming. Inside is really dated, tables crammed together with no personal space, uncomfortable pine chairs to sit on, and overpriced badly cooked food.

Three of us ate here with our son. The staff was super friendly, the food came very quickly and tasted like a dream! If you like cheese as a starter you should definitely try the goat cheese. The fireplace was on, what more could you want ;)

The three of us ate here today and can only recommend it. The waitress was very friendly and immediately brought us a children's menu for our son. She always tried to fulfill our every wish during the meal and afterwards. The food was first class. We have never tasted such good goat cheese. The T-bone steak was grilled to perfection. The scampis were so delicious and even our son (very special in taste) ate everything. Unfortunately we live too far away, otherwise we would like to come back.

A well hosted pub with great food and a fantastic selection of cask ales with a ever changing programme. Worth seeking out for lunch or dinner.

Just back from another enjoyable stay at The Quarryman. Comfortable, clean well-equipped cottages. Excellent breakfasts and evening meals and superb ales on tap. Sunday lunch Met with friends for Sunday lunch. Very disappointed as eaten here many times before. Won't be visiting or recommending. We all ordered the roast beef arrived pre plated on cold plates, swimming in gravy meat tough veg over cooked. Had to ask for condiments Would not recommend

Stumbled across this gem of a pub. Service was friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was local and lively while being welcoming to strangers. The food was outstanding. Best burger and homemade coleslaw we have ever had. Will definitely be back. Staff the perfect balance of attentive but not intrusive. Absolutely recommend you visit if nearby.

We’ve been before so decided to book again while on a stopover near Wadebridge. Consistent good food and nice atmosphere. Very friendly staff. Dogs welcome in the bar area and ample parking available.

As a local, I love this pub. Its got a real old Cornish pub feel to it but its not dated and its well looked after. Its cozy, staff are friendly and welcoming and the food is great. I organised large a surprise birthday party the staff went above and beyond for us, made it very special. Nearly everyone had steak and it was very well received. Highly recommended too all.

We first visited the area as we booked a cottage nearby in 2020 and sadly the pub was closed due to COVID. When we returned this year I was happy that it was open and trading again. I have to say that the Quarryman exceeded my expectations, the food was superb (the crab is a must), the beer crisp snd the pub is immaculately clean. Having been in catering for 27yrs I can't express how impressed i ewas by the friendly and supremely efficient staff, they are a credit to the buisness.

I really liked this pub - went for lunch - it is in a lovely quiet spot , it has tables outside for a sunny day. The food was good all round and the staff were friendly.

Crab sandwich was ok, but nothing special seeing it was £15 !

We went to the pub for Sunday dinner as we had not long arrived in the area and then popped in a few times for a pint or two throughout our stay! Can’t complain at all, the sunday dinner was very tasty and the staff were lovely, it can be expensive with drinks but can’t think of anywhere that isn’t pricey nowadays really so this is no more so than anywhere else! It was always busy in the evening with food bookings so more like a restaurant than a pub as it’s not huge and tables were needed for diners so book if you want to eat and go before 5pm if you want to chill for a bit and have a drink! Would recommend a visit!

Great restaurant! A mix of pub and restaurant. The quality of the food is very good, everything is freshly prepared. The service is also top. It is advisable to make a reservation on the weekend, and you can also get a table during the week. If the weather is good you can also sit outside. We would love to come back on our next trip to Cornwall.

Best book for this one, we were lucky as poeple cancelled. Service was freindly Food was OK nothing special Lots of parking across the road.

Friendly and cheerful staff but very expensive for what you get. 2 burgers and 1.5 pints of cider came to £55! Fish and chips, didn’t look like it was fresh fish, as it was rectangular, like you get frozen and Sunday roast was tough. Yes, we did eat in other places where food was much better and cheaper.

The peppercorn sauce is beautiful- thick and full of flavour, me and my partner share one so we are not over powering the taste of the steak itself. It is absolutely the best steak I have tasted worldwide. There is always a variety of local beers served on tap, it’s the only time my partner allows me to drive his car (so he can enjoy a few beers) and the staff are always friendly. I would recommend booking early during peak tourist season to avoid disappointment as it’s always been popular when we have visited. The only downside is, they changed the chopped peas on this dish- we used to love those. We can’t make comment on any other dish but they look tasty when we have observed other diners. Nonetheless we still love this place.

We often visit this delightful,family run pub and love the always warm welcome from the friendly and helpful staff. Great local food and ales. So grateful that, although welcome,dogs are not allowed everywhere - not always a good thing when eating. Thoroughly recommend The Quarryman for a splendid Cornish pub experience.

Arrived for drinks - husband got horrid water glass for g&t and watched other people getting nice cocktail glasses. Wine very average. Banished to side of bar as we had dog in quite curt manner. Bought packet of crisps and charged £1.70!! Won’t be back!!!!!

Great food, had to eat outside ad they were fully booked but we didn't book. The fact they were full is a good sign and the food was the best we had whilst on hiday in the area for 10 nights and we ate out every night. They said that because they were busy food may take longer but the timing was fine and very pity service from both the waitress and landlord. Would not hesitate to recommend particularly the chicken,bacon pie!

Pleasant old pub restaurant within half a mile of the A39. Good food at reasonable prices. Recommended for lunch or dinner.
