Popped in for breakfast and found a vegan cake so sat and ordered drinks. Excellent to have a nice looking vegan cake! Nothing vegan on the menu but a lovely member of staff offered to remove items to veganise it. I would have opted for a higher rating except they still charge the full price. They are surcharge for non dairy items & hot tap water is £1.50. Excellent location just a little behind on inclusivity on the menu.

We had breakfast in the Strand on a Sunday morning. This place is popular and you need to book. It's a family run business with a nice feel to it. In good weather there's outside seating by the beach which is great: on a winter's day we sat inside! It has the usual covers you'd expect, all well done. We had a toast, avo and poached eggs which were excellent. Service was fast and efficient. Price-wise it's a bit expensive but this is Shaldon.

Lovely little beachside cafe. Had great lunch. More importantly, very helpful staff. Our daughter left her orthodontic mouthpiece wrapped in a napkin. She only realised it 2 hours later on the way home. A quiet call to the cafe, the staff kindly rummaged through their rubbish and found the mouthpiece. It would’ve been an expensive disaster. We are very grateful.

If you’re looking for a cream tea experience that pairs perfectly with waterfront views, the Strand Café overlooking the boats offers just that—a serene and charming setting where you can enjoy scones while watching the boats go by. Here’s why the Strand Café is a must-visit for the best scones and cream tea experience: 1. Scones: Fresh and Buttery Perfection • The scones here are baked fresh daily, served warm with a golden-brown crust and soft, airy interior. They offer both plain and fruit options, each with a subtle sweetness that lets the rich flavor of the butter shine. • There’s a perfect balance of crumbly and soft textures, which pairs wonderfully with clotted cream and jam. Each bite melts in your mouth, leaving you craving more. 2. Clotted Cream and Jam: The Perfect Accompaniments • The clotted cream at the Strand Café is thick, rich, and indulgently smooth. It’s generously served, making it ideal for those who love a good, creamy dollop on their scones. • The homemade jam is a standout, featuring seasonal fruits that are both sweet and slightly tart, creating a wonderful contrast to the cream. 3. Tea Selection: Classic Yet Thoughtful • The tea menu isn’t extensive, but it offers quality over quantity, with classics like English Breakfast, Earl Grey, and a floral Darjeeling. For a lighter option, they also have a refreshing mint tea that’s perfect on a warm day. • The teas are served loose-leaf, steeped to just the right strength, and poured into charming porcelain teapots. The staff is attentive, often offering to top up the tea or suggest a blend that pairs well with the scones. 4. Ambiance: The Perfect Waterfront Escape • The Strand Café’s location is its defining feature. With large windows and outdoor seating, it offers panoramic views of the waterfront and the boats gently bobbing along the shore. The scenery adds a tranquil, coastal vibe, making the experience feel like a mini-vacation. • Whether you’re seated indoors or outside, the café’s ambiance is relaxed and welcoming, with cozy decor that mixes seaside charm with a bit of rustic chic. 5. Service: Friendly and Welcoming • The staff at the Strand Café are warm and friendly, adding a personal touch to the experience. They’re knowledgeable about their teas and happy to recommend pairings, making sure you feel looked after without being intrusive. Final Thoughts • The Strand Café is a hidden gem for those who appreciate good scones and a view. The combination of fresh, buttery scones, decadent clotted cream, and homemade jam with a scenic backdrop of boats is hard to beat. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this is the perfect spot to unwind with a classic British cream tea while soaking up the coastal atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a peaceful and delicious afternoon by the water.

We wanted a light, fresh lunch with good ingredients and were not disappointed! We sat outside on a suny and warm Saturday afternoon, overlooking Teignmouth harbour. One of us had the salmon salad, the other ths charcuteries - ham, cheese and bread. The salad was very interesting and full of flavour and different ingredients: we then had a dessert which did not disappoint. Service was very cheerful and prompt. Based on this, we would go back again.

We have visited Shaldon several times this year and always stop off in this charming cafe. Polite, friendly staff and fresh flavoursome food. We shared the Chicken ‘Banh Mi’ which is a chicken baguette marinated with oriental spice rub, ginger, garlic peppers and kaffir lime leaves. Tastes fresh and the oriental twist transforms a normal baguette into something different. We then shared a gluten free cream tea. I think this is the best gluten free scone I have eaten anywhere and as close to a standard wheat scone as I have found. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will always return whenever we find ourselves in or close to Shaldon.

Enjoyed a lovely lunch at The Strand Cafe. The Asian fusion menu is a break from the norm. Hot smoked salmon salad was absolutely beautiful, an unusual blend of flavours but all worked perfectly together. Croc monsieur was fantastic as was the Devon Cheese Tea. Staff were friendly and attentive, facilities were clean and tidy. Only thing that I would feedback is it would be nice to add a couple of childrens options to the menu. My 3year old daughter had a cheese and ham croissant which was lovely but a sandwich option would be good and perhaps add Cucumber /carrot sticks instead of crisps on the side of child's option. Overall though a lovely and very memorable lunch, woukd definitely return.
