The Market Gate in Teignbridge

Myself and my partner really enjoyed the food and atmosphere in the Market Gate in Newton Abbott, the young gentleman who was working behind the bar yesterday was really helpful and welcoming. We would definitely have food and drink in this lovely little place again. There was friendly people in the pub too. Thank you once again for your hospitality. Roots

Came in here yesterday for birthday drinks.. As I did a little newton abbot pub crawl for my birthday... Decent choice of largers.. And was finally happy to get a pint of red stripe.. Football was on and there was a good atmosphere... Nice Decent pub.. Very Good...

We didn't plan to eat here but ended up walking in sunsay noon time. Very cool place. We ate pizza and drank coffee. Pool table that they allowed my young boy to play. Allowed the two small boys to run around. Very clean and tidy. Lovely area to be in. Lots of drinks choices! Would love to see this place in full swing on a weekend evening.

Great selection of Alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, food is fantastic, entertainment on 24 7

Ordered as a delivery option as we fancied “burgers” and found this place on here It didn’t disappoint, arrived hot and via a friendly driver. Amazing massive cheeseburgers great tasty fries and sweet potato fries . Really impressed and will definitely be recommending and ordering again

A pub that covers all the basics well, has a few TVs dotted around showing live sports, a single ale available, decent pub grub on offer too.

Pizza was way too thin, no cheese no tom sauce and only 18 pieces of pepperoni for a 14 inch pizza - complained at the time but was hung up on and emailed but no response - shocking customer service

Bare brick and bare wood interior, if interior matters to you. Staff pleasant, no issues. Burgers arrived after 15 min which is perfectly acceptable for food cooked to order. Burgers very good, fries ditto. £25.40 for two burgers, one fries and two drinks which is good value. Five stars is for exceptional and outstanding which it wasn’t, and neither was I expecting it to be, but it was very good and nothing whatsoever wrong with that. Would go again.

First time in Newton Abbot. Popped in early on a Thursday afternoon, so quiet. Interesting decor but very nice, obviously a music pub, wish we could have stayed there for the evening. Food looked good. Expect it gets very busy.

The portions are a good size and burgers are nice but expect to wait a while for delivery

Went to watch football, nice atmosphere, brilliant staff, really nice place to spend time, toilets ok, outside area is good, plenty of screens for televised events.

I have been a customer for 28 years. In the last few months I have suffered the aggression and judgment of their female bouncer enough now. I thought initially last night that I’d finally had enough and would make a complaint. However, I’ve just read the owner, I would now guess may also be a disregulated angry person because why would you choose to respond on a public forum to a person, (who I have no idea of) that is so very clearly a vindictive, not very bright but also angry person. My judgment about not making a complaint, I fear may be well grounded. I am so disappointed on this platform because their food is excellent. I will be back to detail specifically why this woman should not be working in this role anywhere. I’m shocked but now feel that my suspicions have been confirmed. You can respond hear obviously but where I had little faith, I now have none. She is a bully, no male bouncer has ever treated me with such utter judgmental or humiliating contempt nor failed to protect.

Had a fabulous birthday evening drinking delicious cocktails made by a very lovely bar person called Brad. Very friendly, polite, and nothing too much trouble. Will be in again very soon. Thank you.

Great atmosphere, laid back and friendly, nice beer garden , especially if you want to watch sports and the food is 👌👌. Highly recommended

Great place if you want pre drinks, music, Plenty of tvs for sport. Food was okaay, not the best I've had but was good qaulity and get what you par for. Staff member was really helpful in the drinks department. Friendly place definitely recommend and will. Be back l.

Excellent service. Quality food. Delivered in a timely fashion. Best takeaway in the TQ12 area and beyond. I have been ordering from the Market Gate for months and I have ne er been disappointed.

I've ordered food from here via Just Eat multiple times and only once was something slightly wrong. (I've forgotten what, but, it wasn't major) Anyway, the food is cooked to perfection and always tasty! It's changed a lot as a place since I used to go in back when it was owned by someone else. However, it's well laid out. The owner and staff seem pretty friendly and relaxed. They also have a pool table in the back. And they have tvs for people to watch sport on. Overall, pretty cool!

Amazing 🤩 burger 🍔 was huge tasty amazing use of seasoning 🧂 and great taste not overly greasy like most arrived piping hot all the food was fresh you will not be disappointed if you order from the place . Chef 👨‍🍳 needs to be at a Michelin star restaurant Amazing value for money and incredible convenient with it being on JUST EAT! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I lost my AirPods here and Jess, who works there, was there for social reasons, but she still noticed them and handed them into staff there. Warren was a great help as well but Jess kept me in the loop the whole time. I go here all the time and had seen her there before but she deserves massive credits for all the help she’s given!

Went to watch the footie and was pretty impressed as it was not on and the chap did not bother one moment and put it on for us. Thx's mate 👌 well impressed, will definitely go back 👍

Got wasted in there one Friday and lost my phone, the team were diligent enough to find it and look after it for me until I phoned up like a complete melon 4 days later asking if I'd left it there. Nice boozer as well. Thanks to all the team at Market Gate.

Great place to eat. Good music, great atmosphere, drinks were cold and refreshing and the menu offering is brill. The munchy boxes value for money is amazing. We certainly enjoyed our visit

Yeah dont bother if u want something later before they shut, because they don't answer the phone, however if u do get something its bloody nice, three stars for poor communication, food deserves five stars if u get it an hour+ before closing time

Foods top notch and the drinks are always decent. Edit: Came in for a mates birthday and the football was on informed relevant staff members and owner after being showered in glass after someone threw one "Infront of ten + people" nobody cared. Spend the best part of ten minutes getting glass out my jeans. I've come to this place for years, talk to the owner all the time and this left a real sour taste in my mouth. You know where I work if you want a chat about this.

Loved market gate, all because of Cody, such a good gent, high quality service, serving us the pure shrek juice! :o Cody has good banter and made a sad Saturday really happy! Keep him around if you want to make a profit margin. Thanks Unknown T

Good food and very good friendly service all the time

Although it was very busy the staff were attentive and friendly throughout. The food came out in a more than reasonable time even without how busy they were. The food was a larger portion than expected for the price and was of very good quality and tasted great. I will recommend the chicken burgers by far, one of the best locally and I will be back for more.

Me and a friend came here after having a bad experience at our local spoons and we were pleasantly surprised with the friendly staff and the service they provided us. They gave us a warm welcome made a space for us and our drinks came quickly and so did the food, which was fantastic. We we’re always checked on and the staff were upbeat and happy with customers which gave the whole place a great vibe. This just shows that small independent businesses are working harder than larger companies and from now on I will be supporting them more. Boycott spoons and come here instead! Really really great start to the reopening of 2021🥳

Great service, friendly staff and decent prices. Recommend! Very cautious and keeping to all covid guidelines. The beer garden is well worth a visit on a sunny day. And they sell Amstel, happy days!!!!!!!

We received one of their menus through our letter box recently and thought we’d give it a go. Not lived in Newton long and couldn’t be bothered to cook, it looked good. I have never been so pleased! Quality burgers, juicy and delicious, lettuce was clearly fresh (weird observation, I know, but makes all the difference) the sheer amount and quality for the price is brilliant! Would recommend the munchie boxes, great idea btw! A lovely way to feel as though you’ve eaten out in these crazy times! Will definitely be ordering from here again. Will visit in person when allowed!

Ordered a build your own pizza (chicken, pineapple and red pepper), one of their new calzone and a portion of the dough balls with garlic butter. Absolutely gorgeous! All of it. Great service from staff. On time delivery. Burgers are too die for too!! Great menu. Love this restaurants take away packing. All recyclable and size appropriate.

Been here in the last week for food on my lunch brake so this is a update on my last review. And I was not disappointed. The food made my balls tingle. Its was almost out of the USA its self. It's shame I don't come here as often as I use to but I'll definitely be back for the food

Great place for a pint or two but it can get very busy at weekends so if you don't like packed places avoid Friday and Saturday nights.

Very rude and aggressive security, I wouldn’t return. The security are sexist, and just happy to Chuck any male out for no reason at all. Just to impress the women.

Been hear plenty of times. I suppose you could call it my local. Has a good selection of drinks but I'm afraid if you're an ale drinker like me then there is only one tap of ale for sale. Which the do change regularly but would be nice if they had a better selection. Atmosphere on a weekend night is a bit tense it's all ways so packed and you can not barely move in there. Market gate is best enjoyed in the week when it's calmer.

Nice beer garden here, music on point for our early evening visit too. Will definitely return soon. So handy to call in when at Asda!

It's a basic pub yes, but the beer is excellent and the beer garden a real sun trap

In all honesty I think the bar staff at market gate are very rude. I went outside to the bar and the woman working behind was very arrogant. I did not do anything wrong and she accused me of throwing glasses around and even took the pool cue off me. The inside barstaff were alot kinder treated me with respect but I don't like the woman. Unfair treatment as 'she didn't like the look of me'

Not a bad establishment and forever improving but unfortunately staff let it down as not very customer friendly and they always look like they couldn't care less whether you're satisfied as a customer. Bad attitudes.

A very bright and breezy venu that enhances the dance and music seen of the square 1/2 mike in newton abbot with the jolly abbot opposite giving a diverse choice to the mix of the pub liick .

Great local bar with good food and a good choice of beers nice outside area in the summer although can get a bit busy and smokey comma good place to visit before the cinema!

Been here a few times now at various different times. Can be quiet during the day and there is a nice patio outside area which is a suntrap. Weekend nights the music (eventually) is very danceable and the place fills up. Drinks priced reasonably. Decor is nice, place pretty clean. Haven't eaten there but menu looks good.

Visited the Market Gate by chance after the food market. Very pleased we did. Friendly and helpful barman, nice sitting area at the back , good music, cloudy cider and jack Daniels cocktail very good. Will definitely pop in again.

Absolutely delicious burger lovely garden which is a sun trap. Drinks are pricey and feel they would get more trade if the did specials and cheaper drinks . 2 burgers and 1 portion chips £18 drinks extra so not cheap... Amazing tasty burgers but you need to do mid week deals and we would visit more😃

Very good atmosphere for a day time drink or evening drink

That was a radical burger!! I was looking for an awesome burger in Newton and I found one! I went for the Pit Boss Original with added bacon and normal fries and the flavour was amazing! Super juicy with great flavour. Washed it down with a pint of Blue Moon craft beer. Awesome looking place with a great selection of food and drink. Get involved!

myself and freinds have visited the market gate on many occasions and had some great nights listening to live bands.However on visiting the market gate a week ago the only music playing was rap music by a dj who suggested to myself if i didnt like rap music i should move on which i did.so if you love rap music this venue is for you.If you like anything else maybe not.
