Six of us for breakfast today . Served by John himself and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast menu altered to suit each of us ( pick n mix / mix n match ) great service with a sense of humour and the food was delicious. Will 100% return .. if John hasn’t already banned us ! Thank you guys .. too notch !

Visited a couple of times while on holiday set us up on the last day for our long drive home. They were extremely busy but you don`t mind waiting for quality. spoke with John was greeted like an old friend can`t wait to return in 2025.

Been to Dawlish many years, this year on arriving went to John's when I looked up where to eat breakfast in Dawlish what a find the breakfast was value for money, beautifully cooked, service was brilliant nothing to much trouble for the staff, definitely recommend it 10 out of 10

Excellent cooked breakfast served with lashings of hot coffee and hot chocolate. Every cooked breakfast item was perfect. Wholesome food, generous portions. Very friendly helpful staff. Definitely worth visiting. Iseal location next to the green and by the sea.

Delicious food, great atmosphere, courteous and friendly staff. I loved the local produce board to see where the ingredients are sourced. Manager apologised that food might be a while, it was only 15 minutes and the cafe was packed.

Arrived at a very busy John’s cafe for breakfast. We were (5 of us) shown to a table quickly and our order was taken. Despite being busy our breakfast arrived quickly and the quality was great. Will definitely visit this place again. If you haven’t tried this place, give it a go. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you John’s

I should of wrote this some time ago. John's is one of our go to places when visiting Dawlish. The menu has all you could want with alternatives for vegans and vegetarian. All produce is locally produced and sourced. And that shows in the quality. Our normal meal is the breakfast which is hot and well cooked. Not the largest of places but staff do a great job in making sure waits are not excessive. John himself is a perfect host and never fails to come say hello. Even remembers my allergies. If in Dawlish go visit. You will love it.

I am a local and have used this cafe regularly over the years, but not any more from today. I ordered a small vegetarian breakfast, which was poor value for money and not very nice. This is not however the reason for this post. Whilst waiting for my order it was suggested that I had ordered earlier in the week and left without paying. Interesting as the day in question I was actually in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The conversation was held quite loudly in front of a lot of other customers. Needless to say I was embarrassed and humiliated. If I hadn't already paid for my coffee and breakfast, which incidentally you do on ordering at the counter, I would have left. The apology was less than acceptable 'case of mistaken identity as you have purple hair and ordered the same thing'. Sorry not sorry but I am never coming here again.

1st time I visited mid-week for a coffee and a ciggy. Sat outside watching the world go by - decided I'd have a small breakfast as well as coffee. Lovely local produce, information on board inside as to source. Piping hot and cooked well - staff very attentive, but not in your face. Repeated again on the Sat as I had an hour to kill before train home - very busy, but still the great service and food - I did notice a 5 star notice, well deserved.

After messaging Sunday and getting no reply I thought it was rude. Visited yesterday at 2.10 pm after checking opening hours to find it was closed. Not good as previously I had done a great trip advisor post.

Great food, lovely staff, clean and fresh setting. In our party: 1 vegetarian, 2 carnivores and 1 fussy teenager, all left very satisfied customers. Will comeback again. Best bacon, brie and cranberry toastie I've had!

Brilliant place for breakfast massive portions and no grease! Service was amazing and so friendly with children and dogs. Highly recommend.

We walked here from Dawlish Warren on a very rainy day. This restaurant is the best place we have eaten in, in Devon. It was clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the service was quick and the food was delicious. Portions were massive and the coffee was good too! We will definitely return if we are in Devon again. Thank you John's! A real highlight of our holiday🙂

Smashing big breakfast and lovely chips but you’ll struggle to eat both at the same time and trust me I’ve tried Nice atmosphere and my daughter loves sausage and chips here as well with a vimto or Pepsi max

Yet again a great visit to Johns, Friendly owners and staff, Service wonderful and most important the locally sourced food absolutely delicious. which great portion sizes. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Popped in on the way past to have a quick coffee. The latte’s were small and overpriced with the coffee having a dreadful aftertaste. We won’t be back! Redeemed by good service.

We visited this dog friendly cafe on a recent trip to Devon. The menu is extensive with lots of choice. The milkshakes are delicious. Service was friendly and it was reasonably priced. Would visit again.

Very busy when we visited, probably everyone was inside to escape the weather, anway we found the only spare table. Service not rapid but considering the amount of customers it was OK and the food was very good.

After a bit of research and being drawn in by the website and menus we visited today for breakfast. Clean, friendly, COVID guidelines adhered to and a lovely breakfast served by really pleasant staff including John himself. What a lovely way to start a holiday.

Very pleasant ambience and you are always likely to meet someone you know at the many tables, both inside and outside.

Whenever I’m in Dawlish I always take my children in here. We always receive a warm welcome the food is excellent the staff are very friendly and helpful and it’s great value for money. We are visiting Dawlish for a short half term break and we went in to The Strand yesterday. My daughter had a jacket potato my son had a tuna baguette and I had a cream tea all of which were delicious. I would definitely recommend The Strand to anyone looking for a warm welcome friendly attentive staff and good food you can’t go wrong.

Nice restaurant to pop in for a pre-theatre meal but not for spending the whole evening. Food was good & reasonably priced. Considering the size of the restaurant could do with more than two ladies toilets and the night we were there one was out of use so long queue!!

The Strand is a friendly cafe on Dawlish High Street. A great place to stop for a filling breakfast.

Visited last weekend and ordered two cream teas. The tea came in a pot and great news it had more than one tea bag, the cream and jam were good but i don't think i have seen smaller scones or is this the norm in Devon. Cornish scones are twice the size ! To be fair the scones were very tasty.

Popped in for breakfast, we had the mini English which was delicious. If you're after a breakfast swimming in grease this is not the place for you, you won't find a drop of oil gracing your plate . Staff are friendly and attentive and the place is spotless.

Lovely friendly clean and welcoming cafe. Staff very nice and couldn’t do more for you! You HAVE to try the nachos, the absolute BEST around here!! You MUST MUST MUST also try their Gin and Tonic Cake and their Marmite Cake!! Don’t turn your nose up until you’ve tried it.......beautiful!!! If you’re in Dawlish you have to pay the Strand Cafe a visit, you won’t be disappointed

Had the vegetarian breakfast, asked for it without tomatoes and they allowed me to have something else extra instead which was great! The mushrooms were particularly lovely. I didn’t have time to get a cake as well but they looked really good so I’m going to have to go back. Staff were nice enough, although they didn’t say much, and it was clean from what I saw.

Food ok but service slow and very noisy

The food is simple, good value, tasty and unpretentious. It's provided quickly and efficiently by the friendly staff. They cater for gluten-free diners and are also very dog-friendly. I'd go there again without hesitation for a snack or a coffee and a cake. There are also tables outside for those who smoke or who wish to sit in the sunshine and people watch on the Strand.

Came for some lunch on our anniversary and wow, great food, great coffee, great staff, service with a smile 10/10, Our new naughty Tuesday food venue, can't wait to come again
