Had arranged to meet friends here before Christmas to find it had closed up without any notice. Some of us had also booked for next week, but there is now a sign there saying it will be closed - those of us that had booked have not been notified. To be honest, this place had been going downhill since it was taken over (by some kind of evangelical "church" that has taken over the rest of the building). The food used to be great, but had got worse before the closure. Not sure if it is going to open again - the notice says it will. Hopefully, it will be taken over by someone who can return it to its former glory, because it is a great building with lots of potential.

i went with my friend for her birthday - we had to wait for over an hour for our dinner to arrive to find our medium steak was tastless and not medium cooked, no others were available so was offered a TAPAS -one dish came out cold, another tasted like the prawns had been defrosted and then frozen - complained and was the charged for the wine and not the dinner - they couldn't really as wed not eaten it ended up only paying for one bottle a complete shame and the most awful meal I have ever had out - such a shame for my friends birthday- completely suggest you eat elsewhere

Let's not beat around the bush here - the building itself looks very impressive. Unfortunately, that is where the good points of this business begin and end. The drinks are appalling - gone off beer, 'orange juice' from a gun, cheap unbranded spirits, 80p gun mixers and what recognisable spirits they do have are premium priced for rubbish spit 'n' sawdust pub drinks. The manager seemed detached, uncaring and unfriendly, more concerned with babysitting her child than running her business. I did wonder if she actually does any work here as it seems to all be left to the assistant manager. It does beg the question why she is not running the place? There are flies everywhere, including in the vinegar bottles and just a cursory glance behind the bar shows the place to be a mess. The food is changing rapidly, having seen the previous staff all walk out due to what I can only assume is the ridiculous manner in which they operate their business - indeed, their new barman seems to now be their head chef if their website is anything to go by!The music is erratic and frequently interrupted by adverts as they are clearly streaming off the internet and the volume is either inaudible or blaringly loud.If you want rubbish attitudes, poor service and mediocre products in a cold and uncaring environment, this place is for you. Anyone else with half a brain should avoid at all costs.

I was very disappointed today at the meal we had at your restaurant. My wife is vegan and their was a mix up with the food to begin with. We could of dealt with that as these things happen. But the actual food was bland no flavour and poor for the money. Comparing the meal we had in shaldon lunchtime cost/ quality was disappointing. We did mention this to staff when asked about our meal, but they were not Interested and still took our money without any apologies.

We decided to visit The Riviera Bar for a roast dinner while on holiday after our excellent first experience, and it was just as good this time around, so we'll probably make this something of a tradition. The food was delicious and the gravy was absolutely sublime. Riviera easily do the best roast dinners we've ever had.Staff were also helpful. One the group wanted the beef well done, for example, and that wasn't a problem at all.If I had one piece of constructive feedback to give it would be to slightly increase the amount of veg for each roast. The dinner as a whole is pretty filling, but you only get, for example, one piece of cauli cheese (which was absolutely delicious btw). We all agreed that we'd have liked more veg, but other than that it was perfect.

First ever visit to Teignmouth for my wife and I, and what a lovely resort, After walking the length of the immaculate sea-front promenade and visiting the local shops, we decided to have an early dinner, as it was such a glorious day,it would then leave us free to have a few evening drinks. While we were perusing the menu outside the Riviera Bar, a lady came out and said, "if you're going to eat anywhere, then this is the place to enjoy a dinner", so we thought, why not. Dear lady, whoever you are, you were spot-on!Everything that came on our plates was fresh and perfectly cooked, and mouthwateringly delicious,We really cannot praise this establishment enough, and what's more, it didn't cost the earth! the bill, including drinks came to less than £22.If you ever visit Teignmouth, don't miss this one!

My partner and I dined here for Sunday lunch during our stay in Teignmouth. We had a difference of opinion of the food and value for money. I thought the beef roast was lovely with all the trimmings and was certainly worthy just under £11. The best bits were the Yorkshire and roast potatoes. If I could suggest improvements it would be that the beef should be cut slightly thicker as it was almost wafer thin and the gravy could use a little more flavour. On the whole though I think it was above average and whilst I would probably try elsewhere for Sunday lunch next time it would purely be for variety. The setting of the restaurant is lovely just set back from the sea front and the staff were polite and friendly.

Popped in for Saturday lunch with friends and ended up staying most of the afternoon. The staff were really welcoming and made us feel relaxed. John, the owner, spent time telling us the history of this former art-deco cinema. We managed to get a table on the terrace where we were able to chill out and watch the world go slowly by. The food was excellent - I can personally recommend the rib-eye, while my friends opted for the tapas which they ensured me was every bit as good as it looked. I choose the tapas option, sounds Spanish right! Not at all very Devon/ British options including crab cakes, black pudding with bacon and apple, tasters of the battered cod. The rest of my group went for the fish and chips. It was all delicious and plenty of it. Nice setting, friendly staff and great food an all round winner.

Right across the green from the sea front this is a wonderful gem of place, great atmosphere, super friendly and helpful staff. The owner, John is often around giving the place a real personal touch. The primary reason I wanted to put this review up, apart from this being a great evening out, is to highlight the quality of the food available. The menu is limited compared to a lot of places you may visit but the quality is fantastic. A great chef prepares first class meals that knock the socks off many of the other restaurants in the local area. My particular favourite is the Linguini pasta dish available with mushrooms, chargrilled chicken or seafood. Super comfort food and in my humble opinion some of the best pasta I have had. Great steak, rib eye, tasty and cooked perfectly to your preference. Tapas is also on offer here, also superb. The wine comes in a broad selection and is of a very high standard and a reasonable price. This place is great for families, friends or just to pop in for a quick drink on your own. Always made welcome.

I decided to try the seafood linguine and I wasn't disappointed. The pasta was cooked perfectly there was plenty of different types of seafood in the dish and the sauce was delicious. The squid was very tender, which is a good sign of fresh food and the prawns were large and juicy too. In fact, when I had finished it, I had that feeling that it was so good I wanted more of it, even though it was a very generous bowl full. The staff were very friendly and attentive without being overly so, and the price was very reasonable considering the standard of food. Considering the location this bar has so much potential but the drinks really let it down, particularly the mojito which was so far away from what a mojito should taste like. Situated on two floors of what was once a theatre/cinema, The Riviera has one of the best atmospheres in town. I've never encountered any moody staff issues, which makes a big change. The staff are a delight, and the owner John, makes regular appearances, always interested in how his customers are, you're never made to feel anything less than welcome. The beers and wines are well kept and the food with the new chef in the kitchen has improved leaps and bounds in recent weeks. The steaks are stunning!!!

Hubby and I had booked this event well in advance and consequently were so looking forward to it.On our arrival in the room they had set up for this Spanish evening I had to say the only thing I thought was that no one further than two rows back from the front would be able to see the dancing properlyThis transpired to be a correct assumption as after the second dance the compere decided to suggest the audience move their chairs from the pre-arranged rows to a circle to allow everybody the opportunity to see all of the Flamenco dancers movements.I have to say that this is not the first time we have been to something so poorly organised here so perhaps not totally surprised.During the main 20 minute interval the compere informed the audience that tapas could be obtained downstairs. Hubby and I went downstairs to try and obtain some tapas but again there seemed to be total lack of organisation. There was no way we were going to be able to order and eat tapas as intended in the interval. Many people were requesting something typically Spanish to drink in the upstairs bar too but the staff could not oblige! Our evening was an immense disappointment from start to finish. However we must say that the very talented Flamenco dancer we watched was wasted at this venue.

We had previously been to the Riviera for dinner functions at Christmas time etc and have been seated in the upstairs room which has a beautiful view and cosy feel.We therefore booked a table of six for a birthday dinner and unfortunately although the tapas food was very good, (cheese board a little disappointing though), the restaurant was very cold and un inviting as we were put out the back next to the kitchen. Therefore there was a cold breeze and smells of the kitchen. When we mentioned this, the restaurant staff kindly rolled over a portable gas heater for us, but the other side of the table were still cold. The food made up for it though, as it was lovely but unfortunately the surroundings not so. He returned with the staff list (framed) of all the items on the menu marked with any possible allergies (extensive). I managed to find something to eat and changed a couple of items which they didn’t have any problem with. They also didn’t flinch when my Dad’s partner asked for a child’s portion of the fish and chips. Well done, it is so rare in this day to find somewhere that puts the customer first.

From the good selection of lunchtime dishes we chose their 'Devon' Tapas, which offered three different dishes for £12 from a choice of six meat dishes, five fish dishes and five vegetarian dishes. Our choice was Crispy Pork Belly, Piri Piri Chicken and Sweet Chilli Beef, Szechwan Peppered Calamari, Grilled Sardines and Whitebait accompanied by Garlic rubbed Ciaibata. The food was well cooked and presented and there was plenty of it, representing great value for money. The service was excellent and John, the owner, was an attentive and charming host.

My family and I visited on a freezing windy day... Hats, coats, scarves the lot!! The Riviera Bar, instantly caught our eye, it's a warm inviting bar with a relaxed ambience, it is also clean!! So a big thumbs up straight away.A tapas menu, plenty of choice and I must recommend the selection of macaroons!!! They were divine! Ooh and the Lamb! Perfect for couples, family's, dogs and easily accessible with free parking not that far away. Our next visit will be very soon I am sure of it!

The food was ok but over priced for what it was. The ladies toilet was filthy. Such a shame as this building has prime location but is consistently devoid of people. The lack of atmosphere made us leave fairly quickly.

The building itself stopped us..stunning. We took the full Sunday Roast and rejoiced in a beautifully cooked medium/rare beef. Not your overcooked grey beef so often served up on a Sunday. Lovely generous plate of roasties and well cooked veg. too. Great service by warm staff. Will have to go back and try the tapas. ......Thank you all

The service here was warm and friendly with the owner very visible. The food was well cooked and presented. We had lunch here one Friday in Feb 2015 and returned on the Monday of the same weekend as we enjoyed ourselves so much. I found the building really interesting as well. If ever in Teignmouth again I would certainly revisit.

This place has struggled a little over the years to find its identity. This year though they served Tapas - and it is excellent!

We ate here in the evening, had a couple of good main courses followed by some excellent Tapas desserts. The beer was good and the sauvignon blanc was lovely. Also good service.

We have just had our silver wedding party upstairs at The Riviera, we had about 70 guests and there was plenty of room. We had a disco and live band. The balcony gave some outside space as well Would definitely use again. Thanks to John Bill Tony and the rest of the staff.

We visited this restaurant 2 years ago when we stayed in teignmouth and decided to go back again this visit, sadly the bar has now changed to tapas. The food was mediocre and the tapas portions small. We have a tapas bar at home and are used to considerably larger portions than this. The surroundings are impressive but the service definitely lets this restaurant down. We sat for 20 mins with dirty plates in front of us despite there only being one table of two in with us.

Dingy atmosphere. Mediocre meal. Tables too close together, giving the feeling that we were crammed in. Staff good and friendly. Gravy watery, not much taste. Didn't like the taste of the red cabbage.

Been to the Riviera 8 times ,we always call here twice a week when we go to Dawlish .which was 4 times this year .first day we had 3 dishes (tapas) each the food as always was to die for and service was great .(£12 each). second time we went we had the special ,2 meals and a drink for £10 each which is great value .BUT the service was very poor ,had to chase everything we ordered. i asked for our drinks and waitress said she would bring them to the table ,waited 10 mins then started walking to the bar and the waitress(dee?)said they are coming .i had the calamari which was over cooked when asked 25 mins after we finished the meal how was it ,I told the gentleman( waiter ?)it was chewey (over done) I ate it as I didn't want to wait another 20 mins while my wife enjoyed hers .tried to pay at the table but not possible so after 10mins went to bar again to pay .nothing said about my meal comments so just paid and went. so disappointed but will go again if the other staff on.

A relaxed space with quiet music to enjoy a drink, meal or a game of pool. We enjoyed the live acoustic guitar on Saturday evening. Pleasant staff and atmosphere. Free WiFi and plug socket access.

We had a very disappointing Sunday lunch here. Boiled everything with frozen roast potatoes and a very nasty pie. Would not recommend for food
