Food arrived late, but they warned us of this after a little delay and gave us a discount without us asking, very good service

Food was amazing. Steak was well cooked and the chips were incredible. Their Christmas cocktails are delicious. Wait time wasn’t too bad and we had the cutest waiter ever! (I think his name was Finlay) he was so kind and accommodating

I finally got time to share my latest experience at the Steakist. We went there a couple of weeks ago. Perfect time of the year to enjoy their new dish, the sharing roast board. We had a wonderful time and we would like to thank you again for your hospitality. The service was professional but not too intrusive. As a former Head Chef, I couldn’t find any negative points. Our experience was enjoyable due to a smooth service, intention to details and quality of the meal. The fact that you have recommended us the 3 meat sharer was a nice touch. The four of us loved it. The quality of the meal was excellent, the presentation was great, portion size was very good and finally the crackling and red wine just to die for!! The scallops was delicious too! We will definitely come back and I have already started to spread word about the Steakist to my colleagues and friends!

Booked for Sunday lunch having heard the adverts on V2 Radio and having walked past a couple of times when visiting La Campania. On the whole it was OK, the waiter/waitresses were attentive and served us well. The food was ok, the meat was re-heated under the grill before serving and the edges on the pork and chicken were a little dry, the beef was rare to our liking. Maybe a little under for my wife. They forgot the Yorkshire puddings, supplied after asking, and they forgot the Cauliflower Cheese, once more, supplied after asking. We went for the sharing of three meats at £30 a head and after a couple of drinks I found it to be an expensive Sunday lunch. We have our favourite Sunday lunch venues and would not change but glad we tried it. Perhaps a Steak night is worthwhile? We will give it a think.

Excellent dinner at The Steakist last week - most of our party went for various steaks, all cooked to perfectly to order. A good range of non-steak mains and some great starters and desserts - which we all were unable to resist! A very accessible wine list. Chilled, informal ambience with very friendly, attentive and efficient service.

We had a private dinner booked in their upstairs room, beautifully decorated and a great setting for a private dinner. The service was excellent and food was also delicious. They were very accommodating with allergies/dietaries, which we communicated with them beforehand. Would definitely recommend!

So great to have the option of top quality Japanese food in Arundel once a week courtesy of The Steakist. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal of maki, nigiri, edaname beans, tempura shrimp and a dragon roll on opening night. We will be back!

Staying in Arundel for a few days and had a wonderful sushi meal at The Steakist on Thursday evening. Absolutely delicious and so good we returning to try some of the other dishes on the menu. Fabulous ambience, friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Went in to have breakfast the other week, three other tables that came in after us had there drink orders taken and food orders taken while we sat waiting, they even brought over someone else’s drink order to us to which we replied “our order hasn’t been taken yet” for them to STILL not take our order !! We walked out, absolutely terrible service! We should have listened to others saying it’s bad but we thought we would try it ourselves as they may have had a bad experience, yet bad one for us too !

Literally just got back from having the Unlimited Steak and fries and the steak was gorgeous, as was the fries. Lovely friendly staff. Couldn't have asked for more. Will definitely be back.

Steak and chicken dishes were disappointing. Quality of meat average. Unable to cook a steak. Poor peppercorn sauce. Pre cooked heated up chicken. Couldn’t recommend. But service was nice.

We'd dined at The Steakist in June when we did the Goodwood Revival and loved it, so it was an easy pick when we returned to Goodwood in October. Nothing had changed and we settled into a great experience within seconds of being seated. All the tables are excellent and the vibe is perfect. Our waiting staff were Jasmin and Isabelle, both of whom were wonderfully attentive without crowding us and were quick to accommodate our requests. When ordering wine, I'll usually order a glass of red to arrive with my main, but in most restaurants I'm usually required to remind the waiting staff when this fails to materialise - not so with Jasmin who delivered it just as my main appeared. We had such a lovely evening we booked for dinner the following evening, which on that occasion saw us seated upstairs. Once again Jasmin was covering our table, and once again the service was faultless - as was the food and wine. Thank you for two great evenings - we will definitely be returning.

I was disappointed after visiting many times. My starters were burnt, so when I asked for a replacement, I got a half portion to replace it. Felt like a petty response from the kitchen. Waiter had no idea how to serve wine, no taste offered, and proceeded to spill it while filling the glasses. All simple things, but I was left feeling that no one is managing the junior staff and there is a bad service culture.

From reading previous reviews there seems to be some common themes which I also personally experienced at this restaurant. Firstly, the service is not good at all - We ordered beef dripping chips and just received normal chips and when asked why we were told they had ran out of beef dripping chips. So they had just decided not to tell us and gave us normal chips instead and hope we didn’t notice? The poor guy on his own in the kitchen was serving up food and calling for it to be delivered to tables but no servers were around so food just sat there for ages. As we were sat by the open kitchen we could actually see what food was being prepared etc. Pretty much every single starter was shop bought from Tesco which feels very cheap and not what we had expected given the prices. We had the steak sharing board for main, the steaks were ok and cooked medium rare as requested but nothing special really. If you plan to visit the steakist I would suggest skipping starters and just having the steak. One positive is that the cocktails are quite nice.

Been a few times but Sunday lunch was without doubt the best roast beef I've had. Service as always was brilliant and felt very looked after. A joy to eat there at any time.

The quality of my wife’s steak was very chewy, I did not receive the full content of my can of zero beer in the glass. Overall I considered the bill expensive for what we had and doubt we would return what a shame as was looking forward to our first visit

Staff friendly. Ordered a sharing steak board and two out of three steaks were dry and chewy. Ordered cooked to medium . No flavour to steak, Ordered beef dripping fries and got normal Asked for tap water and was charged for bottle water. Blue cheese sauce had one tiny tiny piece of blue cheese at the bottom. Over priced for what it was. To be fair the lad cooking was on his own. Shame!

Really nice lunch here over the bank holiday weekend during Arundel festival. I had the flatbread & trio of drips starter, followed by the fillet steak with chimichurri and an extra peppercorn sauce. All fantastic. Service was slick throughout and I liked that the waitress offered a recommendation of how to have each steak cooked. I live in London so not sure when I’ll be back, but would happily recommend to others who are in the area. Great nearby pubs too!

Had an amazing lunch at the steakist - excellent food and atmosphere, and the service was great with friendly, knowledgeable staff. I’m pescatarian and I was pleasantly surprised by the range of good veggie and fish options. Would definitely recommend the scallops starter!

Finn was an excellent server. We shared the Butchers block and the steaks were phenomenal. While the burger could do with some improvement, luckily the table had ordered enough wonderful food to feed the 5 of us. The tuna was incredible as was the Mac and cheese and creamed spinach sides. The atmosphere in the restaurant was great. Chilled chic vibe in a historic building. 10/10 experience.

We paid ≈ £58 for a takeaway dinner for two and the quality of food and their ability to accommodate dietary restrictions was unacceptable. We ordered two honey garlic chicken skewers, and one of them had to be tree nut and gluten free. I assumed they would have a gluten free option for the skewers for the same price as regular, as the dish says gluten free option available on the menu. Instead, we were charged full price for two orders of skewers, that did not come with couscous (only one needed to be gluten free). As a replacement for the couscous, the waiter behind the counter listed their side dishes, and charged us regular price for these as well (two dauphinoise potatoes) which means there was not a gluten free replacement, but an additional side one can order for extra cost. So £46 for two orders of chicken skewers with dauphinoise potatoes instead of couscous. To make matters worse, when the waiter brought us our order they gave us just a couple teaspoons worth of honey garlic glaze on the side, and told us it was the last of it. Upon arriving home, we came to find that the skewers were completely unglazed and the little bit we got was all we had. If they had made this clear in the restaurant we would not have accepted the order. It is unacceptable that they would not only still make and serve a dish that they didn’t have enough ingredients to finish the primary flavor profile for, but still charge us full price for a dish missing its entire side and the sauce that creates the entire flavor of the dish. The chicken was dry and unremarkable, the peppers and onions undercooked. The potatoes in the dauphinoise were under salted and slightly undercooked, and carelessly thrown into a flimsy paper tray with the gratinated cheese completely stuck to the foil. As for the service, when we arrived we asked if we could order takeaway and the person behind the counter said no. Their nearby colleague said they might actually be able to accommodate. He told her no. She left to ask the back of house and came back with someone from the kitchen who very politely said they could do takeaway. She also said they had boxes they could put it in, but we ended up with paper trays covered in foil. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice but forgettable as the style is the typical modern aesthetics you can see anywhere in the world today. The only other item we ordered was ginger ale which I believe was £2.50, and we got ginger beer instead. So that leaves an additional charge of £9.50(hopefully a service charge), which unfortunately remains unknown to us as we didn’t ask for a receipt. We are Americans and this is our first time in Arundel: I certainly hope that these problems were not to take advantage of us as visitors but were instead oversights. Either way, this restaurant is unreasonably overpriced and the quality of food is completely unacceptable. If a restaurant that is primarily focused around high quality cuts of steak isn’t able to grill chicken properly, I would hate to see what they do to a piece of beef. I would not recommend the Steakist to anyone.

Booked a table for 8pm on Thursday. We were the last ones in and from the start point it felt like they wanted us out of there quickly. The waiter was hovering trying to get the order in as soon as he could. I wanted to order a sharing steak and asked if the rib eye could be cooked medium (best way as the fat caramelises) and the rump and sirloin medium rare). We were told that they couldn’t do that as the last time he asked, the chef went mental!! Starters came out within less than 10 minutes, I had scallops and there were only 2 and weren’t massive. Mains were served about another 10 minutes after that. I had a Rib eye that was not a great cut of meat, more fatty than usual and was char grilled, but burnt on the edges and lacked any form of seasoning and no jus poured back over. The macaroni cheese was also cold and clearly microwaved. Mushrooms and chips were also undercooked. We were out of there within an hour and £160 lighter in the pocket for 3 of us. No other drinks were offered, we only had a pint each and then went back to the Swan a few doors down to finish the night off. I’ve eaten in many decent steak restaurants in my lifetime and this is an over priced beefeater at best. Very disappointed.

Wonderful food! Had the best (head and shoulders) beef wellington in memory. The trimmings were delicious with standard setting roast potatoes and gravy. Charming service. Deserves to be a great success.

Unfortunately to say this was the worst steak I've ever had. I really had high hopes especially when seeing the price £36 for a fillet steak which I don't mind paying if it's delicious of course. Initially it came and swapped fries for dauphinoise potatoes and the potatoes were undercooked then cutting into my steak which I requested medium it was rare/blue I asked for it to be sent back to be cooked abit more, 2 minutes later it returned, I assume the whole plate had just been put under the grill as dauphinoise were now black ontop, I continued to try the steak which was now pretty black on the outside but still raw inside, the taste was awful, it tasted so burnt, there was no butter used to baste the outside just dry and burnt. Honestly it doesn't have a patch on miller and carter which is also slightly cheaper, I then had dessert (I was still hungry the sides were tiny) another £8 went on a brownie and unfortunately that came out raw inside too, it was just like wet cake mix inside. I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately I would never return it was one of the worst meals I've had anywhere and the most expensive.

I can't rate for anything as I cancelled my table du to my guess feeling pourly, but they charged me £20 for not turning up. It is not like I didn't turn up, I phone few hours before to cancel. What's wrong 😬😬😬

Brilliant restaurant, buzzing atmosphere and friendly team working there

We came to Arundel to celebrate our anniversary, and stumbled across the "Steakist". We had the sharing platter and it was incredible. Meat was cooked to perfection and the staff were very welcoming. Only tiny criticism was that the sauces were slightly too small. We could have easily eaten a jug full of the peppercorn and garlic sauces

Lovely selection of food here it's not just steak! We ordered shredded beef starter and halloumi fries - delicious. My beef burger was on the dry side but the chicken was really good. Fries are perfect!

Great place, great service and great food. This has been on my wish list since it opened 18 months earlier and my only regret is not having visited sooner. Will be returning

If steak is your thing this is a great spot to try. Whilst ever so slightly on the pricey side for the area the food and service is consistently great. I can recommend the Butchers Block Sharer in particular it is great to share if you are a couple and can easily go around a family of three if you are taking a child with you.

Best breakfast we’ve had anywhere in ages! Certainly the best breakfast in Arundel. Tremendous. Also, great value.

The steaks were stunning. Cooked to perfection. Took my sons for their 17th Birthday dinner. We were not disappointed! Great sized portions. The chips the best we have had in a long long time. Cooked in beef dripping! Deserts were light and perfect end to the meal. Service was quick pleasant and food appeared without undue delays. Our waiter Jack was helpful and courteous! Definitely will come again.

We always have a wonderful meal at The Steakist. Tonight I had the scallops and then Burrata salad for the first time and it was really good. Our friends had the butchers block as a sharing platter which was huge and also delicious. Great portions and so tasty. My son had the beef dripping chips which were so crispy and tasty! My story started when I read the DELUXE menu. I was wowed… I ended up ordering pan fried scallops for my starter. (first time trying scallops and they were sooo good) for my main I ordered the honey chicken and oh my gosh, I was surprised. The best honey chicken I’ve ever had. I also order a side of beef dripping chips. THE BEST CHIPS EVER! I would recommend this restaurant any day of the week. Overall this restaurant is 5 stars ⭐️

Exceptional steak from the steakist, we went on a Wednesday on the big steak night , everything was so good and I couldn’t fault anything, we went for the Chateaubriand for two, it was cooked perfectly and the portions was more than plenty for two hungry people. Will definitely be returning soon!

The food and staff were exceptional and we will certainly be returning. A range of food was selected from the menu and every plate was cleared. Great value for money. Looking forward to my next visit.

Went for a meal with friends and stumbled accross this restaurant. The setting and the staff were very good indeed, but the meal when compared to the hefty price tag did not add up. We all had starters which were nice but very small. Scallops - £14 a serving for two small pieces. Very disappointing. £5 for a small portion of broccoli??? We all had steak medium rare and this for each of us was medium and in parts tough. Had it been only been one of us with an over cooked steak we would have raised this at the time but clearly as all four - two fillet and two ribeye - were over done to our taste, this must be their assessment of what is medium rare. So a heads up. We had wine which was nice as was the cocktails. Could not fault the staff as they were delightful. But £140 per couple was steep given the overall meal/portion sizes. Note service charge automatically added at 10% but more than happy to pay that as service very good.

We went in on the spur of the moment ,having not been before ,and were really pleased with our decision.Great food,we went for items from the all day breakfast menu,vegetarian breakfast and eggs royal. Excellent music at a great level and friendly staff.Finished off with delicious coffee

Ordered the passion fruit martini which was nice thought it came with a shot of prosecco as advertised with a chaser prosecco. So not sure. Steak was delicious, chips were amazing. They charge 10% service charge!

Today Friday 15th March 2024, we had table reservation . the atmosphere with people chatting, laughter...great start ! Service by jack, awesome/ luv him! Delicious fillet and sirloin steaks for us tonight. Our first time and we were pleasantly surprised with how good the food was, how good the venue was and our server/waitress was amazing. If you like steak, you gotta try this place, you’ll love it.

Really good food cooked perfectly

Beautifully cooked tasty steaks, and we both really enjoyed our evening. I had rump, and my partner had the sirloin, both with perfect fries. We had a side of portobello mushrooms and green veg which was also cooked bang on. Service was great - friendly and polite, attentive but didn’t interrupt at inappropriate moments. We been previously for breakfast which we can also really recommend. Lovely atmosphere and all round great evening. We will be back again.

After visiting a few days after opening, we've come back to what has already become an institution in Arundel. A much broader menu still based around steak, it now has a relaxed vibe and expect awards to follow.

Really good lunchtime steak and cocktails

Banging steak, cooked to perfection. Loved the fact that i could chat to the chefs as the rearrange basically merges into the kitchen.

Party of 6 had a great meal here. The young waiter was fantastic & engaging, a credit to the business. We had the Butchers Block which was excellent. We will be back.

We have eaten here before. If you are after a delish steak cooked exactly to your liking, with great service, then this is your place ! The GM Hollie has a great crew working with her so all in all an excellent meal.

Really nothing positive to say, the steak was not very good, very chewy and not cooked correctly (I ordered medium rare and got medium well) the service was dreadful, we watched the chef put the side salad on with his fingers ! If you call yourself a Steakist then you need to be good, would not be returning.

We had vouchers that were given as a gift and used them for Sunday lunch. We were recommended the Beef Wellington and it did not disappoint. Cracking bottle of well priced Amarone too. Thank you… I’ll go back 👍👍

Petit restaurant au centre ville d'Arundel. 2 personnes tiennent cet endroit, mais suffisant car nous avons été servi assez vite. C'était très bien mais comparé à d'autres endroits, on paye un peu le fait d'être dans une ville touristique. Cela n'empêche en rien la qualité de la nourriture. Nous en avons eu pour 48£ pour 2 plats (2 rolls au poulet et frites), 2 desserts et 1 bière.

We celebrated my fiancés' 30th birthday at The Steakist over the weekend. There were 14 of us who joined for a sunday roast. We were meant to be in the private room upstairs but unfortunately due to the torrential rain there was a pretty bad leak coming through the ceiling which we felt was a safety hazard. I would have preferred to have known prior to arriving, but they were very accommodating and made space for us in the downstairs restaurant. It was quite tight on space but we were glad that we could still have our roasts! The staff were excellent, very quick to takes orders and bring food and drinks. We were never left waiting very long. The roasts were good, not the best we've had but decent. I had my plate of food first and it was only lukewarm which was abit of a shame, but I do like my food piping hot. However overall there weren't any complaints. Generally it was an good experience.

We have been to the steakist a handful of times before and really enjoyed it! However On this occasion I was incredibly disappointed. We decided to try the roast as it looked amazing on their Instagram. Unfortunately it did not live up to our expectations. £21 for a roast dinner with 3 asparagus pieces, 3 carrots, 3 potatoes, a small amount of red cabbage and the tinest Yorkshire pudding ( along with the meat) ! I had beef, there was a generous portion but it was so chewy I couldn’t eat it and left most of it in my napkin. I didn’t mention anything as I feel like I’m causing a scene and don’t want to be trouble but I wish I had. Being one of the last people sat for roast dinner I can imagine the food had been sat there all day as it came out in 10 minutes from ordering… £50 for two people ( just on the roast themselves, that didn’t include drinks and sides) wouldn’t be an issue if the food lived up to the price! Hesitant to go again unfortunately. However the staff were lovely and always very welcoming.

Wednesday steak night was not up to expectations ,the price and the portions dont match. It was the most overpriced piece of steak. OVERPRICED! It doesnt worth the hype. The sauces served not hot, not tasty. Not a place I will ever go again.

Chose the Ribeye (Stomach ruled over head) and sadly had the worst steak since I can remember. Should have sent it back but didn't want to spoil my partners meal since she really enjoyed her fish & chips.

Arundel festival week advertised Happy hour in the festival brochure between 6 pm and 7 pm . Booked for dinner and said we would be coming in for Happy hour . Arrived and ordered g and t and a beer . Expected them to be honored in Happy hour and not full price. Only to be told it was only on cocktails. We had expressly asked at booking to be told yes Happy hour. However after we had started them we were told only on cocktails. Not printed in brocheur and not mentioned when ordered. Yes it was Happy hour but it was not honoured .

We went last night. Do not go!! Although the front of house staff were lovely, I cannot say the same for the food! I ordered a medium ribeye, it came blue/rare. I politely asked it it could be cooked to medium, as I had requested. It came back, black, burnt, dry and well done🤬 The worse steak I have had in years. It actually tasted like charcoal. My husband ordered rump steak, medium/rare which came out blue/rare, fortunately he doesn’t mind it cooked rarer. The side house salad with walnuts, was literally a bit of lettuce with walnuts and vinaigrette dressing. I was underwhelmed, to say the least. I am sure there are lovely places to eat in Arundel, this is not one of them, keep clear!

The interior was really nice but the coffee was one of the worst I've ever had. Plus, I didn't like having to pay the service charge for a take away coffee

What a cracking lunch, lots of gluten free options available. Will definitely return soon.

Staff are friendly and approachable and the food was delicious

I can't help but be disappointed. My wife spotted The Steakist on Instagram and we decided to pop in for breakfast. Once seated we were told they were not serving breakfast, a dissapointment as that was what we went in for but not the end of the world. We ordered two of the steak ciabattas and a side of dauphinoise potatoes as they are my wife's favorite. There was no children's menu which was unfortunate but again not the end of the world so we got a bowl of chips for our son. The waitress then came back to tell us they had no dauphinoise potatoes ........... quite disappointed now as the two things we wanted they didn't have. Our ciabatta's arrived but were not toasted and were "quite light" on the amount of steak in them and the chips they came with. . The waitress served the ciabattas but left my son's chips on the pass while she went to serve another table. A few minutes passed and the chef brought them over and appologised. It was a shame to have a number of "hic-ups" occur, especially on the first visit, couldn't help but go home quite underwhelmed.

The food was absolutely delicious and the steak cooked to perfection. Staff were friendly and the overall atmosphere is quite cosy! I highly recommend, the food is divine! (Please open a branch in Brighton!! So we can visit all the time)

If you love steak steakist is for you. Cooked over coals gives that great flavour. Need to book weekends . Just need an excuse to go to Arundel again

Booked for Big Steak Night - ordered The Butcher's Block - perfectly cooked steak, absolutely delicious. Will definitely be visiting again next time we're in Arundel

Comparing the price point to what you receive, it is very lackluster. Disorganised teenage staff in aprons, Steaks were cold on arrival, flat drinks and very cramped even though other tables were available. Overall a bit meh.

Delicious food, good service and a nice atmosphere. So nice to have a fish option other than fish and chips. The seared yellow fin tuna was delicious.

Friendly and welcoming, The Steakist is a restaurant in the heart of Arundel and offers Breakfast and Lunch, coffees etc. We decided to try the breakfast and I ordered an Eggs Benedict and my wife had a croissant. We both had a cafe latte. The coffees arrived promptly but the Benedict and croissant took its time to arrive. The croissant was fine - served with butter and jam, but the Eggs Benedict was a disappointment. Soggy bread, overcooked eggs and a very bland sauce - as it no seasoning had been used at all. Instead of the bread 'protected' from moisture with ham, there were pieces of ham hock scattered over the top along with garnish. Frankly, when I order an Eggs Benedict, that is what I expect but this was form over function. To cap it all, the bill was £4 more than we expected as there was a surcharge for the ham hock! I brought this to the attention of the EXTREMELY friendly and courteous staff (they really were excellent) who found that the menu was configured incorrectly and would be changed. The £4 was happily removed and we were thanked for brining it to their attention. In summary, we would return as the staff are making a real effort and the ambience is good. I am sure the menu has been re-printed now and hopefully, the Eggs Benedict will have a revamp!

Fantastic all around especially for the gluten free, good selection on the menu and the steaks were perfect with a subtle twist and great service. Enjoyed the Californian red and felt it was great value overall in fun setting… in a beautiful town

Just randomly searched for places to eat at Arundel as it was my first time in the area, and I was not disappointed in choosing The Steakist. I ordered The Steakist Breakfast, and the food was excellent, with a good portion and reasonable price for an 8 oz steak. The staff was accommodating, excellent service overall. I would definitely come back to try other food on the menu if I'll be around the area again.

First time dining here, service was good but food was rubbish, 2 simple steaks at 100 quid ,raw chips and watery sauce,won’t eat there again
