We went for Sunday lunch as a treat for a friend's birthday The food was superb Service was very attentive We had a slight issue with one starter not being available after we had ordered . We thought the staff should have been aware . Apart from that everything else was spot on Service for drinks was when needed Worth a visit if you want a very tasty Sunday lunch

Beautifully decorated inside and quaint outside in a fabulous location. Just a quick half of Fauna Brewing's bitter which was as you'd expect from something 2.5 miles away. One I'd happily spend many hours sat outside in the sun or many hours sat inside by the fire with a Sunday roast.

Was in Arundel for the morning & wanted a nice pub lunch close by. Did some research & opted for The George. What a lovely, old country pub full of character! Clean, tidy & beautifully decorated & set out. Had booked for 2 people & shown to a small round table rather squashed in & asked if there was another table for 2 available, which there was & staff happy for us to move. Prompt, attentive, friendly staff. Very nice menu with vegetarian/fish options. Had the battered haddock. Very nice with yummy homemade tartare sauce. Was going to have a dessert but by the time dog number 7 had arrive, my partner wanted to go 😂 Just unfortunate, but did not detract from what a special community pub this is & we will happily return

The George is a very homely and attractive pub/restaurant. The staff were very attentive. The starter was very good indeed, but the Sunday roast was very disappointing. The food was tepid in temperature and swimming in gravy. It would have been nice if the customer had control over how much gravy they wanted to apply to their food. I'm sure during the week and maybe Saturday the food is great, but I won't be eating at The George on a Sunday..

We held our wedding dinner here back in June 2024 for 37 people and to say it’s a perfect venue would be an understatement. Charlotte, Martin, Gracie and the team there are all amazing and we felt very looked after. The food and wine was 10/10 and every member of staff was a pleasure to deal with. Our family still compliment the beef wellington! We worked closely with Charlotte and Martin to create our perfect day and they exceeded all expectations! We will definitely be going back for family dinners and can’t recommend this venue enough for any special occasion!

We were here for one of your famous Sunday Lunches. Normally excellent ,but on this occasion the Roast potatoes were so hard it was difficult to get a knife through ,as though they had been cooked twice or left in an oven for far too long, We were not kept waiting long and rest of the meal was certainly not overcooked . It was the occasion of the final for the football and tennis. We certainly could have played ball with the potatoes. You didn't seem overly busy .I feel we cant have been the only couple to have been served hard overdone potatoes Our other two courses were excellent. If this was our first time this would certainly be our last .Chefs you know what occurred in the kitchen .,Its up to you to sort it. Probably we should have complained ,but the service was so good as usual and we thought we would give you another try. Just sort the potatoes out PLEASE

WHAT A FIND! I have never known staff in a pub or restaurant to be so happy and smiley! We were greeted with a very warm reception both at the door and then at the bar (would highly recommend you make a reservation!) and taken immediately to our table and drinks order taken then. We waited a little time for food but so worth the wait and for the amazing freshness - we ate at peak time on a Saturday so didn’t mind waiting a little - the atmosphere was so wonderful we didn’t mind! Its hard to get to as no local transport too and from. Is a few miles from turn off of A27 Arundel near railway station. Wanted some food but was told they do over 120 meals on Sunday so have to book 2 weeks in advance. I do not work that way as am more of a spontaneous person. This seems the norm these days on a Sunday. Had a nice drink and sat out side on one of the benchs. There is a car park around the back quite large but gets full up very quickly. Not much parking on the streets around the houses and church. There is also a lovey green park where there is cricket played and children's fenced off play ground. Nice walks beyond with view of Arundel Castle used to take my dog there. They are also long field walks accessed through the church's grave yard over the wall. I revisited with my friend on our motor bikes during the week in the afternoon and found it much quieter. So much more enjoyable with the sun out and sitting on an outside table. I think it was my friends first visit. He said that he liked the bike ride down the country lanes and pub at the end.

Thinking we would save the other customers the pleasure of sitting near a coughing and sneezing man, we cancelled. Very noisy pub, maybe my fault as I've not been there before but not an enjoyable experience. Every dog that walked in the door started all the other dogs yaping. I have two dogs that we take out with us but we control ours, and we certainly don't let them on the furniture of the restaurant, that's disgusting. We finished our first round of drinks with our starters and ordered another round as they cleared the plates....... we could here chefs bell ringing but nobody available to serve the food. On the 3rd ring someone served our food but still no drinks. Then the drinks arrived, serve them, but didn't take the empties away. When your sitting at the smallest of tables, that's pretty obvious to see if glasses and empty bottles need removing.

Met up with family yesterday, Sunday for dinner and were met by very friendly staff. We were early so had to wait for our table to be free, so we had drinks served to us while we waited. The menu is refreshingly different and as I have become Wheat sensitive there were plenty of alternatives under the Gluten Free umbrella, plus they were clearly marked. When we ordered the waitress was very attentive and was very keen to quote that my order must be GF. I had chicken supreme, which was delicious and not smothered in garlic as some restaurants seem to want to do whatever you order. I even had a pudding which was GF, very unusual !! The staff were very attentive throughout our meal. The only problem we all found was the roast potatoes were very tough on the outside, not crisp as roast potatoes should be. Maybe the knives were not sharp enough ! But overall a very good experience and will definitely go again.

This is one of the most out-of-the-way pubs, but worth it. The roads to get here require a certain amount of courage: hoping to not meet on-coming traffic on narrow roads. This is one of a few pubs that is open Monday lunch times, so went in hope and very glad we were. The drinks we ordered on arrival took a reasonably long time to arrive, whereas the food was quick to arrive. The burger was good, though the attempt to each using my hands failed miserably. My wife chose the code in tandoori sauce with crisp cauliflower. Both meals were excellent and filling. This pub seems to rely on walkers particularly so do make it a stopping off point if you are walking in the area.

Having eaten Sunday lunch here on several occasions over the last few months, I’d like to say, thank you to the establishment for their continuity. This team work extremely hard and all the staff are great. The atmosphere here is one of a typical country pub, a low hum of diners chatting, no loud inappropriate music you find yourself shouting over. And when the log fires are lit, the smell is wonderful. The Sunday lunch menu has the usual roasts with additional dishes available and delighted that us awkward Celiacs have a good choice too. My only criticism would be the price of the roast beef! It’s without doubt melt in the mouth, but £6 more than the other options at £25 is a little steep when the portions are quite small, which is fine for small appetites like myself but for those who enjoy a larger meal, I feel the cost is a little too much for the quantity. Nevertheless delicious and definitely worth visiting

A Very Disappointing Experience. We had been to The George about 3 years ago & enjoyed a very good lunch in this beautiful location. This time we brought a friend who was visiting from Canada. The front of house staff were welcoming & attentive but even though we were the first to arrive, we waited a long time for the food to arrive. When the food did arrive it was immediately obvious that the chef had changed since our last visit. The quality of food was appalling for this style of restaurant and price of £103 for 3 people - for Lunch. The food presentation was very unappealing, bland and amateurish without any colourful garnish or finesse. My order of skewered roasted cod with curry sauce with roasted cauliflower & cauliflower purée was anaemic & tasteless except for the ‘curry powder’ which was unpleasant. ( What chef makes a curry sauce with curry powder?) I had to order a side order of ‘Spring Greens’ at £4 extra to provide colour & variety to the dish. However the leaves of only one kind of greens were highly salted, wet & tasteless. The cod was possibly steamed, not roasted, the curry powder mixed with some indeterminate, thick sauce was unpleasant, the roasted cauliflower looked overcooked, tired & the purée tasteless. My husbands order was a ‘scoop’ of Bbq brisket with an excess of sauce, accompanied by a similar shaped scoop of pink slaw with a disproportionate amount of liquid with coloured, but not crisp, hand cut chips- essentially stodgy. Our visitors battered fish was passable. The drinks list omitted the draught beers even though there were some available. Given the disappointing main courses we decided to forego any dessert and just have a cappuccino. Sadly even that was poor, tepid, watery, tasteless coffee covered in an excess of chocolate sprinkled on top to disguise the liquid beneath. The decor is lovely but unfortunately I can not recommend this restaurant & understand they have changed hands recently. The front of house staff will be put in the awkward position of having to deal with customer complaints about the food. If this restaurant is to survive they need to sort out the kitchen & get a new professional, competent chef. Normally the discretionary gratuity is not added to the bill unless it is for a large party. Tips should reflect level of service & when the kitchen / chef is poor, its the serving staff who suffer. Why did they add it for a party of 3? If the kitchen is poor the front of house staff won’t be able to afford to stay working in the establishment as their tips will be too low.

Good atmosphere and nice food. Excellent mackerel pate, steak was good but not amazing (Sirloin costs £35). Very relaxed and cosy. Found the music on the night we went pretty annoying (modern whiny rubbish) but wasn’t too loud!

What an absolute cracker of a place. Highly recommended, a hidden gem. We stopped for a pint and a Sunday roast during our southdowns walk. Outstanding. Gluten free options available too. The staff were amazing. 10/10

We were pointed to this pub as a great spot for lunch on a cycle ride of the local South Downs and were delighted to discover this tucked away treasure. It is under recent new management and the welcome was really lovely and warm. It has a great selection of drinks and the food was amazing. Everything cooked creatively and with real love. Delicious. And the village and views complement the dining experience. I would recommend this pub to anyone walking or cycling the area or as a worthwhile drive out from Arundel.

Sunday Lunch came with half a roasted carrot and half a parsnip, for £25 I expected more. The roast was out nearly as quick as we ordered it and was just warm enough to not result in it being sent straight back. Potatoes had no crispiness in the slightest. We started eating, expecting some veg to appear but apparently, that cost extra. This used to be a good place to come for a Sunday Dinner - try elsewhere. The best service we got was a 10% deduction in the price.

We had a drink and a bite to eat after a walk on the south downs. The pub is in a beautiful and quiet village, Almost no cars. We were there on a Sunday and didn't fancy a roast. There wasn't too many other choices so we had some side dishes. Food was good though.

I would have given more stars but, we were sitting at our table eating, and there was going to be a wedding the next day, behind us were 3 tables for a pre get together for some of them. Rather than when the people arrived they all sit down they ended up standing next to us making our experience less than perfect, not the pubs fault but perhaps have more space between tables when doing something like that.

We had a fantastic roast here, excellent sirloin of beef and slow cooked pork belly was sublime, the pork so tender! Great tasting gravy and proper yorkies with a good selection of veg. Friendly service and busy atmosphere, overall a very enjoyable Sunday lunch.

Have regularly walked to this pub from Arundel and back to have Sunday lunch and used to be by far the best roasts around and as such didn't mind paying slightly more than anywhere else but after our visit this time we would think again...

Such an exceptional experience, we visited on a busy Saturday evening and the food was to die for! So good to see lots of choices you don’t get everywhere, lamb merguez scotch egg, crab crumpet, grilled octopus and chorizo! I had the crab and my partner had scotch egg and they were sublime, full of flavour and well presented! Mains were just as good, partner had slow cooked bbq brisket which is a real triumph, sticky bbq sauce and slow cooked meat that tasted unreal, I had pork secretto which I’d never had before, it’s acorn fed wild Spanish pig apparently and it was divine, great flavour and cooked so well it came with some roast peach’s which complimented the pork perfectly. All in all a fantastic setting, amazing food and friendly service have now made thus a regular visit!

Could not fault the service which was excellent, the problem we had was with the food. I had the pork which was small, chewy and tough and bathed in grease, as was the its vegetable accompaniments. All I could taste was burnt oil, really horrible....

For all of the hype, we found this place distinctly average. Food was just ok. The good was the scotch egg starter, the bad was the overcooked mushy hake and the so called 'triple cooked chips' which were flaccid. When I mentioned the awful chips...

Lovely pub, stopped in for a drink and the bar seating is a little cramped (expected on a rainy Father's day / Sunday!) Staff were really friendly and the atmosphere was good - dog friendly too. Would definitely go back.

Excellent café serving quality food. Delicious bacon, meaty sausages, and perfectly cooked soft scrambled eggs. Importantly for us Carlyle’s Cafe’ is also a dog friendly establishment, the friendly staff even present your loved one with a tasty treat! Thanks for a great visit, we look forward to returning.

We stayed and ate in the evening with them. Our room was beautiful, lovely linen, and towels a really calm space! Yes it is in the centre of Arundel but we were surprised by how little we could hear traffic. We had a cheeseboard and beautiful salami’s beautifully served, we were told where everything was from, lovely wines to choose from, they certainly exceeded our expectations and we will definitely be back, run by a really lovely couple. Breakfast was continental but again locally sourced and first class

Went with 7 of my family and chose the carvery option. The whole meal was dry and tasteless. The pork was chewy, potatoes dry and the veg was extremely tasteless Since eating there I have read more reviews that say the same. The gravy boat need to read their reviews and up their game, as I for one, will not be going back. Shame, as it was very good when it first opened.

Freezing cold wet day and tried to go into the cafe on the seafront but our little pug wasn’t allowed but got a warm welcome here just behind. Had coffee and a jacket potato and prawns each - all good quality and more reasonable cost than other place
