Excellent café serving quality food. Delicious bacon, meaty sausages, and perfectly cooked soft scrambled eggs. Importantly for us Carlyle’s Cafe’ is also a dog friendly establishment, the friendly staff even present your loved one with a tasty treat! Thanks for a great visit, we look forward to returning.

Sitting in Carleys now after dropping my car off at local garage for a service…I decided to have breakfast and chill for a few hours.. I had a standard breakfast and it was well cooked and more than I could eat, so glad I didn’t try the double. Coffee was good, which is very important for me first thing in the morning!! It’s the first time coming here since the change of ownership and am glad to say the excellent quality is the same. Special well done to the two lovely ladies who were very welcoming.. Happy to recommend

What a lovely gem, popped in for a pit stop for a Tuna Jacket, sandwich and cuppa - first over was a lovely mug of tea followed by the sarni on lovely thick bread and a huge jacket with just loads of tasty topping - the place was spotless, great loos and pricing just fine all topped of by the most wonderfull staff - they were especially brilliant. We will be back on our next house hunt

I visited today for the first time since the new owners took over. Having seen good and bad reviews we decided to take a chance and see for ourselves. We were very impressed with the new pods outside but opted to eat inside. We received a very friendly welcome and the inside all looks very nice. There seems to be less tables so not cramped at all. I ordered a beef burger and asked for the extra cheese option. The burger arrived with chips and a generous salad. Unfortunately the burger and bun were both burnt inside and they had put grated cheese inside not the usual cheese slice you would expect with a burger. The cheese was very strong and ruined the already burnt burger. We had seen another customer sending back a whole plate of food so things are not right. As we were eating a bin collection man came in and said to staff that he wouldn't empty their recycling bin as it had a load of food and maggots in it !! This totally put me off my food and left half my meal. On paying I was asked if everything was ok so I explained that my burger was burnt and not enjoyable due to the strong cheese and I received an apology and the cost of our two drinks were taken off the bill. On reflection I think it would have been fairer to not charge for the burger meal. Don't think I will be going back under present ownership which is a shame as myself and my family have enjoyed many breakfasts and lunches over the years

Horrid place and rude to my elderly dad when he went in to coffee at 1pm and rudely told him they were closed when they shut at 3pm infront of a busy restaurant

Took my aunt for lunch today first visit after it had changed owners.Can only say wasn’t disappointed in any way.The chicken pie and fresh vegetables my aunt had was said to be really nice and nothing was left.My jacket potato was a good size with plenty of filling ,side salad and coleslaw. The staff were very attentive and friendly cannot wait for a return visit. Good luck to them.

We have been Customers of this restaurant for many years and we were aware it had recently changed ownership prior to our visit. The food and service, as in the past, did not disappoint and it was pleasing to see the restaurant quite busy.

There were two of us went in for lunch 1.30 Sat down and waited for service. There were 3 tables having already been served, their were 4 or 5 persons in the kitchen. After waiting 7/8 mins no one came out. so we walked out. This would not have happened before the take over, how ever busy the cafe . was. I had been going there and introduced people over the 12yrs not any more.

Awful service - dirty crockery - ordered straightforward breakfast - breakfast arrived without the toast - waited 10 minutes - went in - abrupt answer - then another 10 minutes after I had finished my breakfast toast arrived - brown not white as ordered.. lots of staff there so no excuse. Saucers stained and teaspoons brown stained too. Very disappointing.

This was a regular haunt of ours for a 'girly' lunch and after our visit today, since the new owners took over, i` don't think we will be back. Not the same quality of food or service, which is a real shame because it is local for all of us.

As customers of many years standing , this was our first family visit to Carlyles after the cafe changed hands a few weeks ago. In short it was a disappointing experience. Whilst the quality of the food was just passable , the amount of vegetables seemed to vary between tables e.g. our one bowl between three compared to two bowls for four. Service was disappointing. We had booked in advance and arrived on time. It was nearly 20 minutes before we were approached by a waitress. The cafe wasn’t busy. Our food eventually arrived and was judged as being‘okay’. We had to ask for vegetable serving spoons and extra gravy which was lukewarm. Following our first course the cafe was reasonably busy but after our plates were cleared, but leaving the vegetable bowl, we waited a considerable length of time hoping to order dessert. After probably 30 minutes without being approached we decided to curtail our Fathers Day lunch. Very disappointing. We realise that the new owners have a hard act to follow but if our experience is going to be the norm, then unless the waiting staff are better trained in customer care, become more attentive and welcoming, then, unfortunately , loyal local customers may well take their custom elsewhere. Such a shame.

I booked 8 of us for lunch on Saturday 3rd June. The service was friendly and the food was clearly freshly prepared and hot and delicious when it arrived. The kitchen is quite small so it took a while for everyone to be served, which did not matter in our case but something to bear in mind if booking for large numbers. I would certainly recommend them.

Simply the best in every way. The food is the best. The owners and staff are the best. The value is the best and overall Carlyles cafe is the best. Date of visit: May 2023

Popped in for lunch and had a great Hunters Chicken meal - no need to cook tonight! Service excellent and clearly popular with locals - a good sign. Can eat/drink in or out.

Tried Carlyles with a friend, on recommendation and we had a very good Sunday roast lunch. Will try it again on a week day.

Wow!! what a breakfast, a feast with FRIED BREAD on the menu, an item often dismissed, big chunky butchers sausages, thick perfect bacon choice of fried potato or has brown, this was a sumptiuous full english that was piping hot. Excellent service too .

So glad to see this cafe open again fully. I’ve just enjoyed an excellent breakfast, there is extra seating placed outside so I didn’t have any problem with finding a table. Carron, Dave and their excellent staff were faultless in dealing with the current vivid restrictions. I shall return very soon!

We have had breakfasts from here during lockdown and they are delicious! I am gluten free and this has been catered for with no problem so it has been an extra treat for me to have a meal delivered!

We've been passing this place for years and today, we finally made it inside. Carlyle's is a great little cafe. Bright, clean and airy with charming staff, it appears to be a family concern. The menu is varied and prices are fair. We enjoyed a Full English Breakfast and Eggs Royale and look forward to returning again soon. All cakes are made on the premises and looked very tempting. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to enjoy one.

Me and my kids went for breakfast. Very welcoming and child friendly. Loved the fact they had gluten free bread and gluten free options. Only struggle was no halal food. Especially gluten free and halal. However that’s a difficult one to cover but it was very sweet of them to say they would look into it.

I rang at the weekend to enquire if Carlyle's did gluten free meals, the lady I spoke to was called Katy & she was very helpful & said they did offer gluten free so I made a lunch reservation for eight of us to have lunch. It was our first family visit here and I would have no hesitation in recommending Carlyle's to others, We were warmly welcomed by the staff who were very patient & helpful with our various orders. Our food was very nicely presented, well cooked & reasonably priced.The premises & toilet were very clean. A very big thank you to all the staff, we will definitely come again when next in the area.

Popped in for lunch on a Saturday. Greeted with indifference. Sat at table and determine our choice. Went to counter to order but told they would take order. Order taken with minimum interaction. Jacket potato was good. Tea too. Sat near toilet door as only free table. Also appeared to be the access door for storage and for staff to go outside I assume for a gag. Constant traffic for all purposes so avoid that table if you visit. Could see staff whispering about customers and witnessed many an eye roll. Got the impression we were all considered an inconvenience. Paid our bill. Still no friendly manner. Or expression they would like you to come back. Odd atmosphere. Could see they did nice cake though so I might give them a second chance.

Went for my late birthday treat from my Mother, and was looking for somewhere new, this place came up on my google search, and the place is cozy, a home like cafe restaurant away from home. the food is lovely, had the Hunter's Chicken, and it was really tasty, the staff friendly, and always ask if everything is alright. and good for money. We were holding a tea afternoon for my mum in the local village hall and wanted someone to cater for it. We asked Carlyles and they immediately came back with a reasonable price for around 60 people. We collected the platters of sandwiches and cakes about an hour before the event. The food was all ready in plenty of time and we were quite staggered at the quantity of food and the quality. The owner, Dave, couldn't have been more helpful and lent us a tablecloth and also provided extra utensils in case the hall did not have enough.

Good place for a brekkie or sandwich. Menu is fairly limited but it is a cafe not a restaurant. Seemingly very busy and the staff were on top of things. The tables were all tidy and clean and the food I had was decent and fresh. You can’t really ask for more than that. Worth popping in if you’re passing and a little peckish.

On route to friends in Gosport, we turned off the main road and discovered this lovely cafe/restaurant! Although we only had a snack, tea and coffee, my bacon sandwich was tasty and my husband chose a strawberry meringue after viewing it in the cool cabinet. He hasn't stopped talking about it, so I guess it was good! Food that came out to other tables looked delicious, so would definitely call in again when we are next in the area.

Motoring through this village, we stopped for a sandwich lunch at this unprepossessing café. Inside, to our surprise, the place was almost full and we were lucky to get a table. Friendly waitress service and speedy food delivery was just what we needed, and the food was better than we thought that it might be. Care and attention, and generous portions, mean we will revisit when next that way.

Often eat here and its consistently good. Home-cooked food at a reasonable price with friendly service. Also you can book which is great because it's often very busy.

Had the best value breakfast I have ever had. Fantastic friendly service. Cafe was really busy and I can see why. Even so we didn't wait long for our coffee and breakfast. Food looked lovely, however once we started eating our grilled tomato was uncooked as where the mushrooms that we paid extra for, the sausage was still raw inside and the bacon was anaemic, the black pudding was hard on outside and uncooked inside, again paid extra for that, the place was empty so a little more care and attention this could have been an excellent breakfast as the produce was good.

Cafe was rammed packed . However the service remained great. Atmosphere was lovely. My 3 year old loved the food . And I loved the lemon roulade.

The food is excellent and prices are good. Service cannot be better and the restaurant has a lovely 'feel' about it. I just wish it were bigger as at lunchtimes it can get very busy and to my surprise tables can be booked! A little unfair I feel. Tables are blocked off for 'large groups' which, all the times I've been there, has not happened! Apart from the space aspect a very nice place to eat, thoroughly recommended!

Knew I’d get a good breakfast and wasn’t disappointed ,however so popular that people were queuing to get in last Friday. Families, workmen, business men, ladies what brunch , we were all there enjoying a good hearty breakfast. Attentive polite staff and a message on the bottom of the menu apologising for the possible delay. I’ve had lunch, brunch and now breakfast and always been pleased with the quality of the simple food.

We went to Carlyle's for lunch today as a change from one on the seafront. I had the cod and chips and my wife had the gluten free breakfast both of which were very nice! The staff were helpful and friendly and helped us enjoy our experience.
