Ordered online and payment taken. 15 mins later order still not accepted, message from Just Eat saying they’re chasing. Another 15 minutes later the order was rejected. Great, thanks for that Not surprised reviews on Google are turned off Shows as permanently closed which they might as well be.

My birthday treat today decided to go to the star of India for a curry, on arrival there was nobody in the restaurant we ordered our food. The food came out and it was absolutely bland. No flavour whatsoever. The chicken was like rubber and unfortunately we left our dinner pay the bill and walked out will not be returning to this restaurant again Usually on a Friday we go out for a curry and some of the restaurants in Northampton. This is one of the worst I’ve ever had reported it to the staff and they didn’t seem interested.

Very flavoursome dishes, both the curries and sides. Balti Naga was hot but still got the flavours. Excellent service. The deciding rating for keema to naan ratio we scored 8.5.

We got some traditional Indian food, and trust me, it is fantastic! Perfect service, perfect food! :)

Have not visited here for a long time so forgotten how good it was and pleased to find it is as good as ever. I was with a friend who is a huge Indian food fan and he rated it highly. I thought it reasonably priced as well, so intend returning again before too long.

Visited on a recommendation ... was not dissapointed.. great service... great portions ... tasty and cooked just right... great flavours... making it a very enjoyable meal.. very helpful staff in directing me on the best way back to hotel... would deffinetly recommend the establishment to anyone looking for a good indian meal in Northampton... will be back...!!!

We came here for a classic curry night, kingfishers and cobra in full flow. We’ve been here for over a year and never had a bad experience, waiters are super speedy and the food is always cooked to perfection, the portion sizes are also extremely generous!

Awful night, will not be returning attended for my sisters birthday meal and we had barely sat down before the waiters were rushing around like they wanted us out the door as soon as possible ! practially throwing menus at us and asking us for our orders before i had even taken my coat off, they were in such a hurry all night that one waiter managed to spill a glass of Ice water over my husband's back ! he was totally soaked, his clothes were wet through, and the waiter just found it funny !!! no towel or apology offered Nothing ! I know this was an accident, but his attitude was an embarrassment ! the meal was very average, but the service was shocking ! everything was rushed, food practically thrown on the table, waiter was miserable, rude and clearly just wanted us to go. When it came to asking for the bill to leave, we waited to pay longer than we had been in the restaurant altogether ! no mention of the water incident no appology, not even a free drink offered, and when we asked for the change from the bill, the waiter looked disgusted (the same waiter who had spilt water all over my husband!) we were NOT leaving a TIP I am actually disgusted they didnt even offer to cover anything due to the incident, we normally always tip but this service was absolutely shocking, it was like shopping at aldi but trying to eat a meal on the conveyor belt! I dont take the time to write reviews unless it is very good or very bad ! this warranted one !

Obviously mrs 🤬then here comes NURUL asked me couple of quick questions BOOM recommended my full meal. A little apprehensive I went with super waiter NURUL. Friendly service and food was delivered earlier than expected. All the food was hot and tasted delicious large portions even the starters. Never had takeaway before only ever eaten In there. Was hubby’s birthday and our local Indian takeaways are closed on Mondays. Would highly recommend and I will be defo ordering again.

This is a great Indian takeaway, one of the best around. Value for money, speedy delivery with food piping hot. Packed with flavour and spices and best of all, the owners are superb, doing lots for the community without the need to showboat.

Yes of course expectations are lower when you get a curry home delivered. One word fits the whole meal - bland. I wish the Star of Indian, and other Indian restaurants generally would move into the 21st century with their offering. Just the same old boring menus with average food . Will not be back.

Had a take away to welcome friends back into our home after 3 months. Ordered for 6pm delivery and it arrived on time. Excellent value for a delicious “banquet”, each dish looking & tasting so different. Accompanied by naans & rice, poppadoms & pickles. We have been visiting the restaurant for 30 years but never used the takeaway. The only thing missing was the experience of being in the restaurant with its excellent attention and service.

Best Indian restaurant around food excellent staff the best and value for money oh yes. Previous reviews are all wrong absolutely.

Used to come here a lot and food and service was good. This was my second group visit and last. Some rude responses to requests for basic things. Food was generous in portions but not very hot in temperature and the byriani chicken was very dry and over cooked. Every curry looks the same! Much better available elsewhere.

Over the last few years the quality of the food has decreased a lot. This was one of my favourite Restaurants in Northampton about 5 years ago but it’s not the same. I will not be purchasing food again from here

Went to the star for the first time in several years, service was as good as always but the food seems to have lost its edge. Im sure they usd to be one of the best in town but i couldn't give them anymore than average now. Unfortunately the prices are above average.just disappointed overall, not bad just not as good as they were.

As a Indian person I have been to many Indian restaurants round the country. I have to say this is worst food I have tasted in the last 15 years. The same chicken we ordered in our starter was the same in our main course. The portion sizes were very small and the nan was rock solid. I won’t be going back to this restaurant again, it’s a same as it’s my local Indian restaurant.

Visited midweek and quite early, so the restaurant was not busy, hence the service and care shown could not be faulted. This was my first visit here, and we were a party of five celebrating a birthday.No complaints regarding the food. it arrived nicely presented and tasted very nice.Based on this visit I would recommend it and will definately visit again.

This place is 55years old, this year. I think that is incredible. We used to go here regularly, but due to distance we stopped going. Many years ago we went to school with some of the family. So this Sunday we thought we would give it a go. Now you can see from my other reviews that we are quite fussy. We couldn't fault the place, the first big tick for me, is how clean it is. It smells and looks clean. The food is another big tick, fresh, tasty and a good choice. Bodrel us extremely happy and courteous. The toilets are clean, which us always a bonus. The toilets are up steep stairs so worth noting if your mobility is limited.

Lovely Indian food, bit pricey There were four of us and for mains and popadums it came to just over £150 Food was excellent though and we did have two bottles of really nice wine. Would recommend for a posh night out.

Nice venue, good service. However food unfortunately was very underwhelming and over-priced considering. We will not be revisiting.

The Star of India has a good menu with a wide variety of dishes. I have been here several times and tried different dishes and have never been disappointed. The staff are always friendly, polite and welcoming and the service is good. Some of the dishes may be a little bit pricey in comparison to other Indian restaurants in the area, however you get what you pay for.

Food and service was excellent we ordered a takeaway on Wednesday for Thursday at 19.45 it arrived hot and labelled could not wish for better service

Have enjoyed eating here in the past, thought we'd give it a go for Christmas Day. This was a mistake. Very busy and the staff just seemed overwhelmed. We waited over 40 minutes for our main course (pre-ordered) and when it finally arrived it was dry and lukewarm. We were all so hungry we ate it anyway. After another long wait for the pre-ordered dessert we just wanted to leave so took it with us, bagged up. The manager actually apologised to us when we left but didn't knock anything off the bill and we just wanted to get out by this point so didn't argue the case. Actually spoiled Christmas Day, what a shame.

Good varied menus ,nice staff. Nearby parking .and other bars in the area. Not expensive good value .

We took our two children for the Sunday "buffet" and we all thought it was absolutely excellent.

We heard great things about this place and after an exhausting day, just wanted to stay home, so we ordered a take-out. Absolutely lovely, tasty, full of flavour and not expensive. Definitely will find the time to eat-in next time!

Great service but unfortunately the food was average and massively overpriced. Shame bc the location is ideal for the picturedrome. However next time I’ll eat elsewhere and catch a taxi to the venue.

Perfect meal. My wife used to visit many years ago regularly, the restaurant is still good today. So nice to have cotton tablecloths and napkins, the food matched the surrounding perfectly. The owner recognised my wife and made us very welcome, we will return soon.

I am shocked that nothing has changed over the years at this restaurant. I’ve been here a few times now and it seems that everything is the exact same, from the management right down to the food! It’s amazing, usually when I visit restaurants I always see or taste something different to my previous visits however this hidden gem in Northampton does not fail to impress.

We attended The Star of India last night & were greeted by very professional and friendly staff and the food was delicious - great service!

Tried this place for the first time, never again. Bland, tasteless currys with no flavour, bad peshwari naan (Dry and dusty yet oily) Overall so bad neither of us wanted to eat our food, complained to the manager who was argumentative and accused me of disrespecting the chef. We were given money off the total price but still payed £17 for only eating two popadoms and a couple of juices. The worst Indian food I've ever had (and I've tried a lot) and terrible customer service. Overall a really unpleasant experience.

Ordered a takeaway from here and had the chicken rogan josh, it was so oily and had no flavour, all I could taste was oil and a slight bit of spice....not the tomato based, medium hot dish that was promised. At £6.95 a dish, you would expect better, very disappointing.

We really enjoyed our dining experience here. We were welcomed with a smile and service was excellent throughout. Background music was just right. The Indian food was well cooked with a variety of spices. We especially liked the home-made secret recipe dipping sauce that came with our popadoms. Despite being a busy Friday evening we didn't feel under any pressure to finish and leave the establishment. We will definitely be visiting again!

A group of 9 of us had Christmas day lunch. We booked a few weeks before but numbers and meal orders changed a few times even up to the day yet not once were they impatient with us. On the day itself nothing was too...

We came to Star of India on a work Night out after having it recommended by a colleague who had been. Great service, fantastic curry with wonderful atmosphere. Truly authentic, would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a top quality curry with friends, family or couples night. I even signed up to trip advisor just to write the review! (Not usually my style)

Well what has happened? I have loved this restaurant and it was my Indian restaurant of choice. Tonight I ordered a take away. My old favourites were off the menu and the food that arrived was frankly awful. The chicken tikka masala was curdled and running water and so was the other curry. Frozen? I don't know. The meat content was minimal. I know times are hard and costs have to be cut but Star of India you have lost my custom for good in and out of the restaurant by this appalling excuse for a meal. There is plenty of competition out there. You should have stuck to your guns and given the customer good food even if you had to up your prices.

Mi pareja y yo fuimos a la comida buffet en domingo y nos quedamos gratamente sorprendidos. La comida era deliciosa y la comida estaba recién cocinado. El personal era muy amable y el restaurante estaba reluciente. Estaremos sin duda comer allí de nuevo.

Simply a great resturant fast service friendly service even though the testurant is full very impressed. We have eaten here a number of times. There are many good Indian style resturants in Northampton this one is worth finding. Its just by the zrace course a couple of hundred yards from the white Elephant. Enjoy.

I've been here a few times before and always been well looked after. We went as a party of 9, booked at very short notice after a drink in the Picturedrome (effectively next door). Service was good and unhurried, friendly staff. One of the part described a dish which didn't seem to be on the very large menu and they made it for him. If, like me, you have difficulty choosing (or even differentiating) between so may items, they have a venison and duck section, so I'd recommend trying that. I had korai (not sure how they spell it) duck which was very nicely cooked. We had some starters and main courses, rice, nan and some side dishes and a couple of drinks and got out for about £25, and overall thought it really good.

If you notice the picture shoes empty plates.why......because the food is rather good. Excellent Indian restraunt. Huge menu . Friendly staff. Well worth a visit. Stop by

I love love love this place!! I booked a table for 16 as a surprise for my friend's birthday, staff were very accommodating. Service was good, we were allowed to take our own cake and decorate the table. But best of all is the food, it has always been brilliant, I first started visiting this restaurant when I was 15 years old, loved it then, 35 years later I still love it....many thanks

Went with a group of work colleagues. Service was prompt and attentive. All diners were happy with their dishes - the cod fillet curries were particularly nice (dhansak and masala) as a lighter option. Good value for money.

I have visited this restaurant several times with friends and the food has always been acceptable. Service is excellent and above all the food arrives promptly and hot with many dishes being heated at the table. I would recommend a visit if you are in the neighbourhood. Don't be shy to ask for the food to be prepared in the way that you like it. The restaurant will accommodate you.

i live within walking distance. iv been recommended this place by many people but iv never ate in.. only take away.. which has been 3 time now and every time they have got my order completely wrong. i do not go here anymore.. the food inst worth my perseverance

My wife and I ordered a home delivery on a Saturday night, they said it would take an hour but it came quicker , the food was tasty and hot. We usually use somewhere else but we thought we would try somewhere new and we were not disappointed

Restaurant temperature comfortable, music at the right level for number of customers (total of four tables dining through the visit), could always get a server's attention - drinks, food and bill all arrived quickly and correct. £4.95 for a pint of cider seemed expensive, my soft drink was £2.25.There were no distracting screens in the restaurant.The food - portion size was OK - we had Bombay Gusht with Chicken and Veg Thali. I'd rate it higher had the Gusht been larger as I all but finished it. It was pretty much exactly what I'd wanted, rich and spicy, but I could have asked for it to be made a little hotter. Popadums and a selection of pickles were good. Vegetarian Thali: every dish I tried was good, and one or two were really delicious - the chickpeas, mushroom, and cauliflower, specifically. The naan was great: fluffy and crispy, and hot, and came half-portioned for people to tear. With a starter I think the Thali would be enough for two, and my partner brought about half of it home.The total price with a half lager and a soft drink was £38. The food didn't disappoint but I couldn't afford to eat here often with alternatives (albeit perhaps not of this quality) available within walking distance at not much more than half the price.

Really good friendly service, a wide range of food choices, and everything the four of us ordered was delicious. I will certainly visit again soon.

Love this Indian restaurant our favourite in Northampton. We brought 2 friends here recently and as always the food was fantastic, all the waiters so friendly and helpful. We have never had a disappointing meal here and heartily recommend.

This was the first time I went to this Indian restaurant for the Sunday Indian buffet lunch with my friends and I was blown out of my mind. The service was fantastic, the food was amazing and there was nothing to complain about. Everything was absolutely clean and in proportion. When the restaurant said it was 5*, this is definitely it! A well recommended place and everyone should try the taste and delights of the Indian food that is offered to them!

Fantastic takeaway as always. Good choice that suits everyone in the family. Vegetable biriani and Chicken tikka were delicious, very generous portion sizes. We also had vegetable samosas, they were well cooked, flavoursome not too hot. Definitely recommend.

I have tried most around the area, some are good and some are average, The Star of India restaurant hasn't let me down yet, the staff are really friendly, you always get a nice welcome, you get treated as you would expect to be treated when you are treating yourself for a meal, but above all that is that the food currently is being cooked and presented really well, and it tastes as it should, as we expect it to taste.I only give credit where it's due, I don't work for them and I am a harsh critic when it's needed. Check my posts if it's bad I say so.Go there, take your family, enjoy a meal together, I feel good about recommending them to you.Of course if the standard ever slips I'll be back to let you know about that to.

Went for an early dinner this evening. Once again absolutely delicious food. The Lamb Tara is a particular favourite and the garlic naan is so fresh, crispy at the edges and doughy in the middle. Perfect. Regular takeaways never let us down, great service and lovely decor. We're very lucky to have this fantastic restaurant at the end of our street.

Had a really nice curry in the star as did my wife, staff were attentive and polite and the food came out in good time, the staff uniforms were a bit tatty though, ink stains in pockets and curry stained, get some new white tops people...

WEll on the prowl for a takeaway, I decided to go to the star.NOt only were the staf extremely polite and kind, the Lamb Vindaloo was possibly the best I have ever tasted.THe lamb was extremely tender and the flavours were sublime!110% recommend this place people

We visited for a impromptu Sunday buffet and were expecting a busy restaurant with topped up dishes to help yourself to but no . What we were offered was a choice from a very varied menu with an all you can eat policy for £11.95 per head .I would safely say this was one of the best Indian meals I've had in a long time and we will return soon .We both were very satisfied with the quality, service and restaurant and the owner was a true Gentleman who obviously cares greatly about his business and customers.

Visited the establishment with 3 other friends who all thought that this place was amazing! Both food and customer service was spectacular, have never had an experience like this anywhere else in Northampton, I highly recommend it for those looking for a good meal at an Indian.

Excellent in every aspect: polite and friendly staff, very nice food, relaxed atmosphere and well reasonable prices. I took my daughter as a birthday treat, and I must say we had superb dining for 2 of us for £40. This included the papadams, a starter, main dishes with side dishes, drinks, dessert, tea and coffee. All this in a nicely kept, clean, pleasantly furnished and relaxed place. The two waiters we dealt with were polite, helpful and easy going. My daughter loved it (me too). Oh, the food was really tasty, filling and piping hot. I tried some of the house specialties, which I would definitely recommend. There is nothing I disliked, I give a definite 5 star for this one!

Was recommended this restaurant by a few colleagues who said this was the best Indian in town. Prices, including wine, were reasonable but the meal wasn't anything special. I had a chicken dhansak - my benchmark dish when trying a different Indian restaurant - and I felt it was a bit mild for my tastebuds and the chicken was quite dry. The garlic nan I ordered lacked garlic. Pilau rice was ok. Interior of restaurant and service good but as this isn't local to me I'm unlikely to go again and have expressed my disappointment to colleagues.

However, the recent takeaway was probably one of the worst curries I have ever had.The dhansak was more like a soup type texture, was extremely bland, and what was meant to be vegetable dhansak seemed to contain no vegetables, just a sauceThe balti was dreadful, and just did not taste at all spicyas Northampton has a lot of curry houses, i will simply never get a teakeaway from the star of india again. Known Budrul a number of years, he's very welcoming. The Venison Tikka masala was sublime just fell apart. Fantastic.

I last visited the star of India around eight years ago and after a very disappointing meal hadn't been back. The food was pretty grim, really dry & tasted like it had been warmed up from lunch time!Last weekend my friend chose the restaurant for her birthday celebrations, I was a little apprehensive but I was pleasantly surprised. I opted for a jeera chicken korai with a naan bread and it was delicious. The portions were large and everyone enjoyed what they had.The only downside was the service was a little slow because they were so busy & it took asking two different people over ten minutes to finally get the bill.I would return again but it is more expensive than most other local places I've visited.The restaurant is just around the corner from the picturedrome where we went to watch a band afterwards.

From reading the good reviews about food, I can only assume that the chef who cooked those meals was on his day off !The driest chicken I've ever attempted to eat, served by staff who looked as if they were being held at gun point to be there.Not a good experience and one I will not be repeating.

Was surprised to find this place as it was not located near any of the other common Indians in northampton, I.e. Wellingborough road, however it surprised me! My husband and I loved it and will definitely be going back. Staff are friendly and attentive. Well done.

Been here many times, food is always good! They fitted is in last night with no prior booking, although very busy the service was reasonable! We had a bit of a wait for main course but was worth waiting for! Definitely one of the best Indian restaurants in the area

Star of India is a nice setting and good service. The food is great and although slightly higher in price than other similar restaurants it is worth it. The Sunday buffer is great as well

We went as a party of eight and had a table booked in advance, as we arrived the staff started to show us to our take before we all got inside the restaurant (not a good start). The sat us down and the just left us there and it was another five minutes before we were given the menus, we ordered drinks and they took and age to arrive. We then ordered poppadoms which were really greasy. I found that the pickles did not taste like they should have, the lime pickle was not all spicy of hot, the chutney was bland, the mixed salad was nearly all onion and the yogurt was tasteless. We then order our meals which again took ages to arrive, we also asked for the pickles to be left for the main course but they took them away. The food arrive and was just chucked on the table in front of us they got the pilau rice wrong as I has request mushroom pilau and got special pilau which was full of peas carrots and sweetcorn (which I partially hate) we found the food to be luke warm and very very bland not the lovely spicy food you expect at a decent Indian restaurant. I had chicken dupiazi which was very bland and full of onions, my wife had the land sago and wondered were the meat was as there was hardly any in the dish at all. My brother in Law had a madras which he said was it at all hot. The naans were cold and burnt. As for the staff they should be taught how to smile and interact with the customers, they were totally mannerless, unfriendly and stood around talking to each other. I will ensure I give this place a wide berth when ever I visit Northampton there surely must be far better Indian restaurants in that area.

I have been going to this resturant for the last 15 years, and I have introduced my children to it. Even though a little more exspensive than town, customer service amazing. Every waiter looks spick and span and manners beautiful. Food absolutely excellent. Beautiful environment and atmosphere, food is as good as any top hotel in London.

It is always good to get a local recommendation when visiting an area and the Star of India was recommended to us when visiting the area. We were literally spoiled for choice, taking a good while to decide, we eventually went for a couple of restaurant specialities - Special Tikka Mossala and Khata Murg Korai both dishes were absolutely superb.Will definitely return when next in Northampton.

Never had a bad meal here. Staff always friendly and welcoming. The menu has some different dishes that you don't often see on other Indian menus.We had poppadoms with our drinks while deciding what to eat, the service was spot on in terms of time and attention. The wine list is not that extensive but the chardonnay we chose was great value and very palatable. The starters arrived in good time and were a great size, enough to get a good taste of the food but not to much to interfere with the main meal.The main meal itself was very good, you could taste all the ingredients without being overpowered by a single flavour that can happen especially with the hotter dishes.The bill did take a while but if this is the only complaint then there is not much to complain about really.Reasonably priced and a nice atmosphere, looking forward to visiting the restaurant again.

I always get my curry takeouts from here and the food is Always great. Delivered quick and hot. The main reason for writing my review is everytime i ring up I'm amazed how pleasant and friendly the staff are. When I have collected they have also been so welcoming and attentive. Keep up the great work
