Merlins Tandoori. in Northampton

Went to Merlin’s for a birthday get together, the food was delicious, with a big group of us the service was fairly quick too! Restaurant is quite small, so wouldn’t recommend a big group of people. Everything else was great!

We ordered online for collection. Money was taken out of my account. When we went to collect the whole place was in darkness. Another local take away owner told us they had shut down for good. If this is the case they shouldn’t still be accepting orders and certainly shouldn’t be taking money from anyone. It may be an oversight or a mistake but it just feels dishonest. I know these are really nice people who run Merlin’s so I like to think it’s a mistake. Either way I’m still out some money!!

Appalling. Used Merlin's own app. It took the order and took payment. An hour and a half later, no food. 10 calls to Merlins and just got answering phone. Even drove there - and it was closed. Presumably it knew it was closed when the app took the order and took payment. Dishonest behaviour. Disgraceful. Do not trust this place at all.

Just as a heads up, this place seems to be closed due to a change of ownership, it's unclear if it will still continue to trade as Merlin's or if the new owners will trade as something else..

My wife tried to order a takeaway on saturday night. The website said they were open and she placed an order. It did not complete and we did not receive anything. We ordered from somewhere else. When we checked our bank transactions the money had been taken and on our transactions the order was on there but obviously never received but paid for. Im not sure whats happening with merlins but they do not answer the phone (I hear they were having a refurbish) although I have eaten there and had takeaways for years. I have passed on to my bank to recover the money as they do not have the courtesy to answer the phone and I have left messages. I will be avoiding them in the future and will pass on to family and friends. Out of order!

We placed a order on Saturday 8th of June to celebrate watching the rugby earlier that day, the order was placed online, money was taken from our accounts, confirmation email sent through, and restaurant was said to be open online. We waited 1 hour 30 min we tried calling with no success, expected them to be busy, we finally drove to the restaurant to find all doors shut windows dark and the place completely shut. Thoroughly disappointed, bad way to finish such a good day.

Been a regular here for years, chicken dansak and sagaloo is 2nd to none.. The chicken is always very tender, some other curry houses I find the chicken is over cooked and very tight on the amount chicken they put in. only thing is naan breads aren’t amazing and I think the dips should come free with the popadoms if your order is over £25

The four of us were celebrating my recent birthday; we had a wonderful meal and experience with you all. Service was very quick and the food was seriously delicious. We will be back - and definitely NOT 3 years later (first time we ate with you guys was just before the pandemic / lockdowns started) but with a much quicker return date than that. You all are a serious credit to Northampton as a town and we look forward to visiting you soon. Whilst not being any fault of your own as a business, parking nearby is quite the challenge but I will stress that this is no fault of yours as a restaurant.

Good choice of food, great quality and pleasant service, unfortunately ordered coffee which came out in a Tiny cup, Please please serve coffees in a reassize cup not these tiny vessels.

Our meal was bad the prawn purée had shrimps the korma and other dishes only had 5 pieces of chicken prawns only shrimps the coke and beer were both flat then waited twenty minutes for the bill no atmosphere never use them again and it cost us £76

First time I'd been back in a number of years, as I no longer live in Northampton. The food was absolutely perfect, as it always was as was the service. Diverted here on a journey back from Buckingham to Lincolnshire, definitely a good decision. Not much has changed, which is good, other than the nan breads are round, rather than pear shaped and they no longer give your female members a red rose.

Waited at least 40 minutes for the food to arrive, some items were missed out and my bill was incorrectly calculated. Please don’t waste your time or money.

I had aloo Gobi and vegetable curry, vegetable curry was really spicy but what was worse was both had potatoes and they were rotten. Once I had eaten about half, I realised and sniffed one, it smelt SO bad! They I checked the others and one was soft on one side and yellow, and tough and leathery on the other side. Really gross. I've been pretty I'll for 24+ hours. Worst "Indian" ever. DON'T EAT HERE, unless like, your mother-in-law is due over and you're hoping to kill her.

Good service and very tasty food. Wide ranging menu of authentic Indian dishes. Biggest bowl of Balti lamb I have ever seen with plenty of tender meat.

Food in our opinion was far to long to getting to us.Food was also dry and cold had to re-heat in oven for 15/20 minutes not good all round.

Managed to fit 17 of us in food came out quickly. Service was smooth. Parking could be an issue as there's no dedicated car park but there's usually a space on the street. Food was good. Service was good. Its difficult to fit a table of 17 so there wasn't a great deal of space but it worked

Went in last night with friends, had meat samosas, they were the small parcel ones in which I get two, and they were packed with filling {minced lamb} tasted just devine, lovely crisp pastry, perfectly complimented the freshly cooked meat. Then a chicken tikka balti, which I asked to add more ginger in the cooking, and the chef got it perfect. Once you've tried a dish , you can always tailor it the next time you go there , if you know how to determine your pallet. Had a pint of Dortmond , a German lager, for me it's better than Cobra as is paler , and lighter , a very nice beer, didn't have dessert, although was massively considering the ferrero ice cream

Can't fault the delivery time. There was nothing wrong with the order though it came a little luke warm. I've ordered before and would likely use again as it's cheaper than most restaurants of this kind of food.

Terrible food, heavily relies on being on Wellingborough road for business. I have never been served rotten chicken in my life till now and you can tell they do not clean their pint glasses. Best part of the visit was leaving the establishment.

The food was nice and good value. The atmosphere in the restaurant was good and the staff friendly. Nothing blew me away but I don't think that's what they're aiming to do. Overall pretty average. If you're out with a group of friends for a curry and a few drinks like I was, then I would definitely recommend it. If you're after something more special then there are other places for this.

I like to try different Indian takeaways. First time ordering from merlins. Would not order from there again. Not much of a wow factor.

Average at best. The stuffed pepper with lamb mince always a good tester. And had no flavour and felt like I could've made better (which is a bad sign) You know when it comes with shredded cheap lettuce and one slice of tomato that there's no love either. Lamb Balti was a bit better. But only 6 pieces of meat. Wine was best part of meal sadly.

Advertising a 20-40 delivery slot but yet they still delayed an early preorder by 40 minutes. To make it worse, the attitude and customer service when we called the restaurant was so disappointing. Blunt employee simply stated no drivers and ‘can’t do nothing about it’ etc. No compensation or money off next order offered for a loyal costumer. Whilst still promising 20-40 delivery on Just Eat. If they were honest, people would probably choose to order from somewhere else!

Went with family for dinner. They have Indian dishes in the menu. Ordered starters, Veg curry and Veg Biryani. All of them had too much of potato and that too it was smelling like the way rotten potatoes do. Taste of all the dishes was pathetic. When informed to the waiter about the rotten potatoes, the answer to my surprise was that the chef is not sure what's the smell and also said no one else has complained. The behavior of the waiter was also not at all polite. I would not recommend anyone who wants to eat Indian cuisine to visit this restaurant. They are just fooling people by serving junk food in the name of Indian dishes.

Went here for 2nd date, tasty curry's, good portion size, spice to amaze and naan was lovely. Paper dome served with lovely dip selection good price, waiter was friendly

I have used Merlin's for many years to eat in and as a takeaway they have never disappointed me they are in my mind the best India restaurant in the northampton area very good service friendly staff food quality excellent nothing to much trouble wouldn't eat anywhere else.

The biriyani does not taste good , the rice was not cooked property . Does not even touch the taste of Indian biriyani.

Overcooked Chicken Tikka with no lemon on the side either - so tasteless, salad ok, but the main course king prawn madras was horrible! About 4 prawns in a highly diluted watery sauce, which was hot but absolutely tastless too! All the pickles and chutney were diluted too so again tasteless... the mushroom cauliflower bhaji was ok and so were the pompadoms - but the keema naan, although ok on its own - there was nothing to dip it into but tasteless yuk! Really disappointed that your takeaway is of such poor quality and such a waste of money too! £21.95 down the drain and in the bin! Disgusted, feel conned and won't be ordering again!

We eat at Merlin's at least once a month and have the occasional takeaway. The food is exceptional and well presented, however, the manager and staff hardly interact with their customers. We never get greeted and only speak to the staff when ordering and asking for the bill. Perhaps a little more customer interaction would improve our rating.

Arrived pretty cold. Strangest dansak I’ve had, no whole lentils, overly sweet, almost red in colour. Oriental chicken was really basic for a special. Menu could do with better descriptions / photos to avoid disappointment.

Loved the big salad with the samosas and the two pots of sauce. Mushroom rice very tasty. Madras was a bit runny and could have done with some bits of onion in with it as well as the king prawns. Very flavourful though

Visited Merlins on Saturday night for a curry prior to going out. Food was freshly cooked and very enjoyable. The place has a nice atmosphere and is also very reasonably priced. Will definitely return.

First time I have been there in many years as I live the other side of town now. A lot has changed but it was a good value meal. Service was very good if anything a little intrusive, but we didn't have to wait for anything and I'd definitely go again.

Small menu but this means specialisation. Dishes are always excellent quality here.

On this visit the food wasn't very good at all.

I ordered a king prawn saag when I got home it was anything king it was tasteless. Just burn in my mouth. I contacted restaurant and person that answered phone was rude. This is the 2nd time I’ve had this problem but I gave the a 2nd chance. Now Food I have eaten is going straight though me. Luckily I’ve taken samples to get food tested.

We had a fabulous and tasty meal here last evening. The service was good and the staff all very convivial. It is well worth a visit to enjoy good food. This restaurant is also doing take-away food and delivery. it is definitely top of the list for food. In these times with restrictions on who you can socialise with.....take someone who is in your bubble and enjoy feeling normal again. It is however, a place where solo diners feel at ease. This restaurant is in a competitive area but does knock spots of many of the others.
