Just had a relaunch. A complete change, including Karaoke Heaven. Done a great job on the refurb, and still a proper pub

We came for the karaoke on Friday night and had lots of fun, the staff were really friendly and a special shout out to the guy behind the bar (and later at the karaoke desk) with the light grey hair who was especially kind - thanks for helping us to have a great night! Would def come again.

Brilliant East London pub run by Great polite staff,seating & music downstairs with pavement outside benches for the smokers,multiple soundproofed karaoke rooms upstairs,tasty pub food too.

Lovely pub, will def recommend next time friends are looking for suggestions. I was pretty drunk by the time I ordered the burger so my 5-star rating for food may be a little biased. Went down a storm though.

A good East London boozer with warm and friendly staff, and some great burgers. A good choice of beers, including local craft breweries. I did not stay for any events, but I bet it is.lots of fun in the evenings. For me it was a nice quiet spot for a drink on a Saturday lunchtime, away for the bustle of Bethnal Green Road

The customers at the bar were asking barmaid they wanted to sit where we were, so she said it's reserved. So out of order. Barmaid should not be working in this pub. Terrible. Don't bother drinking here, plenty of decent pubs with respectably honest staff you can go to.

I rented the second floor for a birthday recently. It was perfect: affordable, friendly staff and even a karaoke option.

The star of bethnal green is one of my favourite places in east London. It's a fun, quirky pub. If you fancy somewhere that will put a smile on your face, come to this place. If you want to dance and be with friends come to this place. I like the dark and dingy set up as well. I can't wait to drink and dance the night away at the star of bethnal green 😊

The place is great, lovely music and ambience. The food was dissapointing. The burger was minimal (but tasted nice) and the chips where reheated in the microwave (by the time they brought them were stone cold).

Booked my 30th birthday party upstairs at the Star of Bethnal Green, we had great service and a lovely space all evening - with our own bartender Alison to look after us :) The food worked really well and we absolutely loved having the karaoke room throughout the night (even if you're just booking karoake I really recommend!)) Great night and really recommend

Great... A 'Traditional East End pub' for a new generation of East Enders. Lots of venues preach the 'Everyone's Welcome' manta this one practices it..! A large open bar, large range of clientel all getting on and enjoying themselves...

Awful just awful! It always has been like that and expensive! Rude poignant staff ive experienced dig you out for just sitting there minding your business! Forget trying to enjoy yourself it just wont happen! One star too many!

Booked the karaoke for my birthday and it was the best!!! Super fun and the booking system was very easy. The staff are very friendly and helpful and we had so much fun having some drinks before as well. Very lively on a Saturday night!

Varied draught selection & range of cocktails - would recommend if you’re in the area

Nice place and atmosphere. Price ok. Special on Thursday 12£ for two cocktail.

The food options weren’t great (most of what’s listed below was NOT on our menu!) and the chicken inside the burger was more batter than chicken and overcooked - 1 slice of tomato and a few scraps of lettuce was all else there was in the burger - the 3 people I was with were equally unimpressed with their meals and noted that maybe that was why no one else at the pub quiz were eating. The pub itself is lovely. The drag Queen quiz host seemed to be in a bad mood (altho that might have just been their persona) and didn’t really engage much with the quizzers…

We had such a great time in the private karaoke room, staff were really lovely and helpful. I'd really recommend booking the karaoke room, I just quickly booked and paid online. There was a huge playlist, it was fairly priced and there's a little room tucked away upstairs; it felt like our own little private party. Thank you for making my birthday really fun and sorry that we were doing a really stupid dance when you came in to let us know our time was up... :)

I cane here for a music night on a Saturday and didn't eat. Door and bar staff are friendly and efficient. Crowd was quite varied in age and vibe, but everyone seemed really nice. The only suggestion I would make is that the main room on the ground floor was just a tad too dark. Overall, would recommend. Would definitely come here again.

Somewhat gloomy but nice pub plus the serve food sometimes - I haven't tried it so the review excludes that.

Just stumbled across this fabulous pub. The food was excellent. It was a great looking pub inside, and it made you feel really welcome . A great place for lunch. And dog friendly, which is great. I heard it was also terrific in the evening. Staff fabulous 👌 thanks.

Amazing atmosphere, Billy the manager is the best guy you will ever meet, very friendly and accommodating place which you have to go to.

THIS PUB. Such a good experience throughout - easy and accommodating booking a couple tables for a birthday, followed by a spot of karaoke. Good, hot food and fast service. The staff are superb, and it's clear they enjoy working there! The manager is a GEM. 10/10 would book again in a heartbeat, they made our night. Thank you!

Great drinks and karaoke was amazing

Great pub, warm and cosy. One of the best Sunday roasts ever had! Cash and card accepted for the payment. First floor is even better, absolutely to visit!

Food is NOT good, the rest is all good

I accidentally paid for someone else’s drinks when the card reader was placed in front of me and I wasn’t given a refund so ended up paying £19 for one drink. They clearly need a system in place for refunds that doesn’t currently exist.

We didn't eat but the atmosphere, service and facilties was on point. We hired a karaoke room and carried the party on the pub later. Would 100% go back.

Perfect pub for a session with friends- great staff, great food, great vibe. We loved the karaoke room upstairs.

On a busy day staff show no sense or urgency, gormless at best. Shame because it's a cool pub to drink in. Maybe they are too cool for school or just a snowflake 😂

Had a great birthday celebration in the upstairs function room! The entire team was super helpful and friendly, making sure our party had plenty of drinks and food, and helping us find time to use the karaoke room as well. The function room is an awesome space and would definitely host another party there again. Have also gone for their drag show quizzes and loved them as well!

Great space for private functions - you can book the whole of upstairs! Good vibes, live DJ and close to Bethnal Green station. I come here a few times a year and always have a good time :)

A pub that I have been to before and enjoyed. My recent visit however, was a let down. A chalkboard behind the bar was advertising old drinks prices. Another chalkboard gave a list of cocktails they did and a note to say "can't see your favourite, ask if we can make it!" Well I asked for a mojito, they had no mint. I then asked for a strawberry daiquiri, they had no syrup. Two bog standard cocktails that they could not do. The toilets were a mess. Upstairs had lots of tables with empty glasses and plates. All the staff bar one looked miserable. I have given one star for the fact I do like the place and hope this is a one off bad experience and the other star to the black woman working there. She was the only member of staff who smiled and seemed to actually want to be there.

🚇 Bethnal Green 🍺 £4.90 Becks Vier ❤️ An East End boozer for the younger generation. . The Star of Bethnal Green is located on busy Bethnal Green Road. The nearest tube is Bethnal Green which is a five minute walk away. . Originally The White Hart, this pub used to be a Truman’s house and has seen a few name changes over the years. This pub is now part of the Electric Star Pubs stable who took this place over in 2008, this was their first pub. . The decor is contemporary in this high ceilinged boozer. The walls are a mix of exposed brickwork and colourful wallpaper, at the back of the bar is the servery which is a good size. The seating is a mix of poser tables, low level seating and comfy booths to chill in. On the right hand side of the bar is a DJ booth where apparently Idris Elba once graced, upstairs is another bar and Karaoke room. . The beer choice was good and was full of familiar favourites to please the masses, but no cask. This pub sells Becks Vier which is a favourite beer of mine, so choosing a bevvie was easy, my pint cost under a fiver which was great. The food menu was simple and included lots of comfort food like burgers & wings etc , fish & chips costs £13.50. . I visited mid afternoon on a Saturday and the atmosphere was relaxed and chilled. The six nations was on which drew in a few punters who were predominantly a younger crowd. I was served by a vivacious lady behind the ramp who was full of beans and very welcoming and upbeat. Weekend evenings this place really comes to life, they have DJ’s spinning on the one’s and two’s and a late licence until 2am. . The @starbethgreen is a gorgeous looking pub which will appeal to the younger crowd that have moved in to the area. The beer and food have a keen price point which won’t break the bank and the service was great. You won’t find the East End of old here but maybe the East End of the future, all said and done, I enjoyed visiting here and would recommend a visit. . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 04.02.23

Turned up on a Sunday at 4pm. Most of the beer was unavailable due to problems with the gas in the basement, bar staff told me manager was meant to be coming in to fix it but then exclaimed that they wouldn't be coming in to fix is as its a Sunday. I ordered a beer from the fridge that none of the staff had heard of. We were then told there was no Veggie Roasts left, then we were told there were hardly any meat roasts left and if we wanted a burger there wouldn't be a bun. The place felt shambolic with a drunk DJ swaggering around and staff doing shots behind the bar. They advertise excellent roasts and excellent beer on a Sunday just a massive shame that none of it was available. This place is perfect for late night boozy antics but not good for anything else at present.

Went out with my friends the Doorman and the female Bouncer greeted us and said Hello and searched our bags this is amazing we normally get aggressive Bouncers when we go out .when we went inside was very busy did take some time to get a drink but was worth waiting for .prices are good Bar staff are very polite music was amazing .we even got the Doorman to have a dance with us was shocked when he said yes all of our friends loved him and hes a quite a funny Bloke tells alot of jokes think His name is Han around 10:45pm we was asked to leave our drinks in the entrance area by Han as we wasn't allowed to take them out give the star of Bethnal Green 5 stars and Ladies if you fancy a Dance with security Hes always happy to do it .well done to the management best place ever .would 100% recommend this Pub .

Came here on a Friday night, the door staff or whatever you want to call them where very unpleasant and aggressive towards people outside smoking. It made for quite a bad atmosphere, I wouldn’t come back.

Went out with friends on the 07/01/23 and were greeted by the security team who searched our bags while making a good conversation. when we got inside it was very busy the Bar staff was very polite .after a couple of hours in there there was a customer who would not remove himself from the staircase the mixed-race security guard gave the customer plenty of chances to move off the staircase. then he removed him from the pub have to say the way they are trained is perfect and it was very busy but still, he carried out his duties with respecting customers and apologised to anyone that got knocked out of the way while he removed the customer. great music and we all will be coming back this week. thanks to Star and the security team.

Awful place and awful bouncers - avoid at all costs.

Bar staff shouted at me in a cruel way when all I wanted was to leave the venue with dignity. There is always a bit of a huddle in east London boozers and I would hope that my questions regarding the exit would have been treated kindly but this was not the case. Hangovers are tricky for the best us at this time of year and when I woke up this morning their cruel words were ringing in my ears as loud as the bells of Christmas. I will the twice before requesting this pub again. One star

Hosted my 25th Birthday Party here and had the best experience. The staff were sooo helpful, the room upstairs/ karaoke were great and all went really well. Would highly recommend!!

Situated on the high street about a 6 min walk away from either Bethnal Green underground or overground station. They have some seating outside, a great selection of drinks, and plenty of seating. They have 2 floors and a bar area on both levels. I've attached a video of the first floor. The first floor is where the toilets and the kareoke room are located. We booked the kareoke room on a Wednesday evening. The pub wasn't busy at the time of our arrival (7pm) but it was almost full downstairs as the evening progressed. Food is catered via a third-party street food vendor, Baba G's. See attached menu. I ordered the Crazy Lamb Jalfrezi Burger. I thought the bun was stale, but the burger was interesting, especially with a crispy bhaji inside. For the price of £11.50 (over-priced), I would have expected fries to be included, but nope, that was an extra £3.50. The fries were nice and crispy and came with a mango and mayo sauce, which went very well together, loved it. Though the kareoke room was really dingy-looking, and approximately 2 x 3 m space. We were a party of 10 and fit in (added a few chairs from the bar). We had a great time, and there were plenty of songs to choose from. I would recommend a visit. The service is great, and the atmosphere was nice too.

Went there yesterday with friends when we got to the The Pub there was a female security shouting at another man to bring his drink back inside rather than just asking the man politely to bring it back in we witness the whole thing and next she said are you F Ing stupid or something bring it back in and the man said sorry I didn’t know we wasn’t allowed glasses outside then the security woman said something like just take your stupid self inside and the man went in then we went in this made us feel a bit like do we want to go in and see what it’s going to be like if we just see what the security woman treats other people like.so we went in and looks amazing drinks was good prices and people was really polite and friendly stayed for a while good place to hangout .

Used to play music gigs here back in the days of Libertines, Razorlight and many many more bands of the 00’s era. If you were in a band in the early 00’s (everyone was) you’d have played the pleasure unit as it was then known. Nowadays it’s a decent pub with a Kooky design and always a buzzing atmosphere. Enjoy

Hired the function room and celebrated my 30th birthday here - everything was excellent. From the beginning, my correspondences with the team were super prompt and friendly throughout all my planning, they were great at answering all my questions. Day of, we had Billy take care of us the entire night who was incredible. He was regularly checking in with me to make sure I was having a great time and that things were going smoothly and that our bar was always stocked! Our bartenders Elizabeth and Alanna were wonderful too and made for great company - they were also excellent at ensuring other people coming into the pub stayed out of my private party's way to maintain vibes (hugely appreciated). And to finish the night I was feeling regretful that I hadn't booked the karaoke room earlier as it looked so fun... But Billy managed to snag me a slot at the very end of a busy Saturday evening!! I had a wonderful 30th, felt very taken care of, and am hugely grateful to the whole team. Highly recommend Star of Bethnal Green!

I hired the upstairs room for my birthday party and it was fab. Billy the Manager and all staff team were so helpful and friendly to. You can decorate the room, move furniture, make a dance floor and add your own personal touches to. Highly recommend The Star Of Bethnal Green for a great night out and to host a top party🕺🪩🥳🎈🎤🎉

Me and my friends went out for Halloween and we went to all the Pubs in bethnal green and we wasn.t allowed in by the Doorman because of being bisexual .the last Pub we tried was the star of bethnal green we was greeted by the Doorman and the Female Door woman who gave us a very warm and friendly welcome and then searched our bags we was so happy to see that the Pub train there staff properly and not rude security When we went inside the Doorman opened the the Door for us and said have a good night the Pub is amazing and the music is ok the Drinks prices are good for bethnal green .Bar staff are polite and make good conversation while there making our drinks thanks star of bethnal green you deserve to be number one .we will be coming back again in two weeks.

Lovely spot for evening drinks, with nice door staff, decent music and good vibes. Alcoholic beverages are definitely cheaper than similar types of bars located closer to Shoreditch, so we visit regularly!

Couldn't have asked for anything more from this pub. It was a Sunday afternoon, so no super busy, but they let us come in with the dog, they let us bring in our Nandos from over the road, and they even provided us with knifes and forks. Why sit in Nandos I'd you can eat your food over the road with a pint. It's what legends are made of.

not a sports pub!! no game to watch

Sound does not work. If you are going there to watch something that requires sound don’t waste your time the big speakers they have are broken and do no good. Also the sound on the second floor does not work.

Brilliant bouncers I have l just offered 2 bouncers called Perry and annete 20 pound hour to work on the door at my place and they have said they are loyal to their place of work and refused my offer you should be proud to have to them I would love them at my place!

Absolutely fab space, especially to rent! Staff are all wonderful and the facilities are magic. Karaoke and upstairs space suited our engagement party perfectly and the experience provided us with a unique opportunity to get our pals together. Couldn't recommend more!

Horrific experience, booked for a Sunday roast with my friends. Dirty table, dirty chairs. Very rude and unhelpful staff. We waited 32 minutes for 5 burgers. My chicken was over cooked and tasted terrible. I strongly recommend you to stay away from this pub

Great music, nice beer, lovely bar staff and a comfortable pub that is both cozy and spacious!

This pub should be banned from serving burgers to the Great British public. For one, no cheeseburger or hamburger on the burger menu was an absolute travesty. I ended up settling for the brisket burger with sauerkraut and what a disappointment that was. The bottom bun was completely soaked through - wet, dripping, a mess. The brisket was relatively flavourless.Why experiment with burgers you can’t cook when you don’t even offer the basics? An expensive disappointment. Won’t be eating here again. Beer was alright tho

Went there for my friends birthday. First we had karaoke them we jumped on the dancefloor. Friendly stuff and nice atmosphere. Cool, young people around. Nice place for a night out.

Was exited to try The roast at this place for the first time. Place was half empty, lots of dirty tables and lazy staff, not much of a selection on the menu, I chose the beef brisket as the only other meat option was pork belly! Didn't wait long for the food, but the food was cold, the brisket was nice but not enough of it, the beef was places on top of a pile of onions to make it look bigger, two piles of veg, half frozen hard carrots and parsnips, which where completely tasteless, would have been nice to see some green on the plate, the worst part for me was the potatoes, they where easily about 3days old, rock solid powdery and cold, I can't justify paying £17 for a roast that Is slightly better than the microwave ones in Iceland, deffo need to work on making it fresher! Overall I'd say it was disappointing and the old George next door does a better one for half the price!

Simple menu but food good and quick service

Gorgeous, huge selection of craft beers. Slightly lacking in customer service - the beers are not labelled on the pumps so when I asked what they had a stern finger simply tapped on a menu in front of me and rolled their eyes. If this is such a common occurrence maybe put up a menu on the wall? Or just a sign that says “look at the menu”. Otherwise delightful pub.
